Tommy Key

Tommy Key of Gatesville died May 11, 2003 at a Gatesville nursing home. He was 65.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at the Gatesville City Cemetery with the Rev. Wray Nunn officiating.
Mr. Key was born Aug. 2, 1937, to the late Herman and Christine Henson Key. He grew up in the Pecan Grove community. On June 5, 1956, he married Mary Holden. They resided in Gatesville all their married lives. He was a truck driver for the Clifton Cattle Company, Weldon  Jones and Troy Lee Hunt. He was a member of the Grace Assembly Christian Church in Gatesville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Willard Key.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Key of Gatesville; daughters, Sharon Nabors and Tammy Monk; sons, Richard, Tommy Dean, Jimmy, Michial, David and Timmy Key; sisters, Henrietta Holden, Clara Lawson and Ina Fay; brother, Sam Byrd; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pauline Elizabeth Wittie

Pauline Elizabeth Wittie, 87, died Thursday, May 29, 2003, in Stephenville.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2002, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel with Royce Cockrell officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Wittie was born June 22, 1915, in Gatesville,  Texas. She was the daughter of John H.  Woods and Mary L. Powell Woods. She was a member of the Gateway Baptist Church. Elizabeth married Hurshel B. Wittie on January 11, 1946, in McGregor,  Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Marie Louise  Woods and Ione Tow; and one brother, William Larry Woods.
Survivors include daughter, Anita J. Klotz and husband Allen of Stephenville; sister, Hazel Wendeborn and husband Willie of Gatesville; granddaughters, Karen A. Sanchez and husband Juan, Angela S. Haralambou; and great-granddaughters, Lorissa Sanchez and Allison Sanchez, all of Stephenville.

Pallbearers were Gary Wendeborn, Eric Wendeborn, Brian Wendeborn, Cody Wallace, Tom Morgan and Jim Murry.
Memorials may be made to Gateway Baptist Church.

J. Roy Martin

J. Roy Martin Jr., age 85, of Martin’s Point, Anderson, SC, died Friday night, May 30, 2003, at Hospice of the Upstate.
He was born in Greenville County, January 2, 1918, the eldest son of the late J. Roy and Eda Bell S. Martin. He graduated from Clemson College in 1939. He was a veteran of World War II, 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles, surviving the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. At the time of his discharged, he held the rank of major.
He was the retired owner of J. Roy Martin & Company, Inc., a family-owned commercial roofing business. During his career in roofing, he served as president of the Carolinas Roofing Contractors Association and president of the National Roofing Contractors Association. Community involvement included membership in the Rotary Club of Anderson since 1946, serving as president in 1949-1950, and becoming a Paul Harris Fellow in 1985. He served on the C&S National Bank Advisory Board, and was a past chairman; the board of directors of Perpetual Bank; the board of directors of the Anderson Chamber of Commerce, and was a past chairman. He was chairman of the building committee for Anderson’s first YMCA and was also one of the founding members of the Anderson Symphony Orchestra, performing as a violinist. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Anderson for many years, serving as Sunday School teacher, deacon and choir member.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John W. Martin and Charles Franklin Martin; and his eldest son, James Roy Martin III.

He is survived by his wife, Alma Louise Murray Martin; two sons, John Allen Martin of Vianna, Virginia, and Stephen Murray Martin of Thomasville, North Carolina; a daughter, Margaret Louise Martin Trammell of Anderson; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Ducworth of Anderson; a brother, Edwin Pruitt Martin of Columbia; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; as well as several relatives in the Gatesville area.
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church of Anderson on Tuesday, June 3, at 4 p.m. with Dr. Jim Thomason and the Reverend Dale Rawlings officiating. Private burial services were held Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The J. Roy Martin III Endowed Scholarship, Clemson University Foundation, P.O. Box 345602, Clemson, SC 29634; Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621; or to the charity of one’s choice.

Thelma B. Lively

Thelma B. Lively, 92, died May 28, 2003 at a McGregor nursing home.
Graveside services were held May 31, at Levita Cemetery with Rex Tilly officiating.
Mrs. Lively was born Feb. 5, 1911, in Quinling, the daughter of the late Charles McVay and Sara Swindell McVay. She married David R. Lively on Feb. 19, 1946, in Houston. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Robert Harris; and a granddaughter, Melissa Ann.
Survivors include her daughter, Euel Jean Hammond; and four grandchildren.

Earnie Hamil Sr.

Earnie Hamil Sr. of Copperas Cove died May 30, 2003 in Copperas Cove. He was 60.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Twin Creeks Christian Center in Gatesville with the Rev. Jerry Hamil Jr. officiating. Burial in the D.F.W. National Cemetery.
He was born June 11, 1942, in Gibsland, LA, the son of the late Ernest F. and Mary Hamil. He was reared and educated in  Louisiana and  Texas. He retired as an E-6 from the U.S. Army after 26 years, including time in Vietnam. During his military career, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal with bronze clasp and four loops, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with palm and the Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon. Following his military retirement, he worked for the  Texas Department of Criminal Justice from 1985 to 1997. He was a Southern Baptist. He was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters, Fredrick W. Hamil in 1991 and Jimmie G. Hamil in 2002, Dora Gunning in 2002 and Mary Williams in 2002.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Kay Hamil of Copperas Cove; two sons, Earnest G. “Jerry” Hamil Jr. of Gatesville and Johnny W. Hamil of Telephone; two daughters, Tammy Brown and Theresa Lamphere, both of Copperas Cove; three sisters, Betty Hamil of Gordo AL, Joyce Simmons of California and Barbara Payne of Iaeger, WV; and five grandchildren.

Johnnie Faye Collins

Johnnie Faye “Shorty” Collins of Belton died June 1, 2003 at a Temple hospital. She was 80.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Dossman Funeral Home Chapel in Belton. Burial was in North Belton Cemetery.
Mrs. Collins was born Jan. 21, 1923, in Princeton to the late Rufus and Birdie Craver. On Feb. 21, 1942, she married Melvin J. Collins in Longview. He preceded her in death. She worked at the Crestview Nursing Home for 10 years. She was a longtime member of the Belton Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and an active member of the Widowed Persons Club. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Disabled American Veterans organization and the Olan E. Teague Veterans’ Center in Temple. She was also a member of the Mary Martha Class with the Keys Valley Baptist Church of Belton. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Craver and Homer Craver; and a sister, Lucille Davis.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Collins of Belton and Mike Collins of Salado; two daughters, Fran Hall of Gatesville and Rebecca Ray of Winter Springs, Fla.; three brothers, Tommy Joe Craver of Kilgore, Robert Craver of Mineola and James Craver of Allen; two sisters, Jean Shaver of Brownsboro and Barbara Garcia of Longview; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be made to Keys Valley Baptist Church, 4393 W. U.S. Highway 190, Belton, TX 76513.

Claudine Boyd

Claudine Fegette Boyd, 101, of Victoria and formerly of Gatesville, died June 20, 2003.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Dominy officiating. Burial was in the Gatesville City Cemetery.
Mrs. Boyd was born July 29, 1901, in Osage to the late W.A. and Pearl Shive Graham. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jasper Lee Fegette in 1929; her second husband, Ruel Boyd in 1968; two brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include her daughter, Pearl Gummelt of Victoria; a son, Lee Fegette of Henderson; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Gatesville.

Shafe Weaver

Shafe Weaver of Silverton died June 21, 2003 at the age of 81.
Funeral services were held Monday in the First United Methodist Church in Silverton. Burial was in the Silverton Cemetery.
Mr. Weaver was born April 8, 1922, in Jonesboro to the late J.A.M. and Edith Clyde Weaver. He graduated from Turnersville High School in 1940. He moved from Coryell County to the northeast part of Briscoe County in 1941 with his parents. On June 11, 1943, he married Jonnie Kendrick Allard in Silverton. He served as a staff sergeant in the infantry during World War II in the Philippines and Korea. He then returned to Silverton in 1946 and resumed his farming and ranching operation. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Silverton, where he served on several boards and committees. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served as commander for several years. He was a member of the county school board and was a county commissioner for Precinct 1 for 16 years. He was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sharon McMullin of Silverton; a son, Jonnie Weaver of Plano; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Rose Sparago

Mrs. Rose Sparago, age 78 of Gatesville, died June 12, 2003, in a Temple hospital.
A time of visitation with Mrs. Sparago’s family was held Friday at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel.
Mrs. Sparago was born October 14, 1924, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Francisco and Elizabeth Armocida Bova. She was the fourth of eight children, with one surviving sister. She cleaned floors of a sewing shop from age 12 while learning the craft of sewing. She graduated from high school and moved to California with her now deceased husband, Elpidio-AL-Sparago. She traveled all across the U.S. during many vacations. She worked for 57 years as a pattern maker of clothes for various Hollywood movies. She also worked as a supervisor over 12 other seamstresses for a clothing business that has since gone out of business. She then retired to the Los Angeles area until a change in scenery was needed, then moved to  Texas with her niece and family to enjoy the last remembrance of days.
She is the beloved aunt of Richard, Raquel, Brandon and Bradley Punger of Gatesville,  Texas, Andrew and Elizabeth Cross of New York, Florence Cabrera of New York, Robert Menie Jr. of Florida and their families.

Albert Lynn Drumheller

Albert Lynn Drumheller of Jonesboro died June 20, 2003 at the age of 39.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel in Hamilton. Interment followed in the Bethel Methodist Cemetery.
Mr. Drumheller was born Feb. 6, 1964, in Freeport to William Drumheller and Shirley Tarvin Drumheller. On Feb. 6, 1964, he married Teresa Lynn Price. He was the warehouse manager for the Village Green Center in Jonesboro.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Lyn Drumheller of Jonesboro; his mother, Shirley Tarvin Drumheller; five children, Brandy Nicole Reese of Lake Jackson, Jason Allen Reese of Angleton, Jessica Lynn Drumheller of Crew View, FL, Albert Lynn Price of Jonesboro and Krysta Cheyenne Drumheller of Jonesboro; three sisters, Sharon Drumheller of Fort Myers, FL, Paula Foster of The Cayman Islands and Stacy Kreider of Cape Coral, FL; and one brother, William Drumheller Jr. of Cape Coral, FL.

Terry Douglas Key

Terry Douglas Key, 36, of Gatesville, died Saturday, June 28, 2003.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville.
Mr. Key was born Sept. 1, 1966 in Gatesville. He was reared and attended school in Gatesville. He owned and operated Terry’s Tree Service, working throughout the Central  Texas area.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willard Key.

Survivors include his mother, Donna Gummelt of Gatesville; a daughter, Laekin Key; a son, Coltin Douglas Key; four sisters, Sheila Salter, Janie Suttles and Shannon Wightman, all of Gatesville, and Amanda Key of Missouri; and four brothers, Curtis, Randy, Bradley and Chad Key, all of Gatesville.
