KENNETH ERVIN VANNEST

Kenneth Ervin Vannest, 49, of Freeport,  Texas, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2003, at Brazosport Memorial Hospital in Lake Jackson,  Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 21, 2003, at Stroud Funeral Home in Clute,  Texas, with Father Jose Sanchez officiating.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to service time Friday, November 21, 2003, at Stroud Funeral Home.

Kenneth was a lifetime resident of the Brazosport area.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Sonny and Ruben Vannest.

Survivors include his wife, Belia Vannest; parents, Angel Lecerio and Mary Alvarez; daughters, Kristina Vannest & husband, Shane Zeringue, Rachel Vannest and Kindra Vannest; son, Lucas Corona; sisters, Veronica Lecerio, Angela Lecerio, Dansel Lecerio and Kelley Alvarez; brother, Jose T. Alvarez; grandchildren, Isaac, Ivan and Isabelle Zeringue; and many other loving relatives and friends.

JOHN HENRY BREEZE

John Henry Breeze, of Sweeny,  Texas, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2003, in Angleton Danbury Medical Center at the age of 54.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 4:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2003, at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton. No other services are scheduled.

John was born to John Jacob & Frances Jason Breeze in Deer River, New York. He married Linda Dirks in 1978 and they resided in Sweeny,  Texas, for the past 21 years. John loved horses, hunting, fishing and Indian life. He was known for saying “All for one and one for all.” John loved his grandkids and playing video games with them and having a good time with everyone he knew.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and two nephews, Wayne Moody, Jr. and Jimmy Jessmer.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Breeze; daughters, Michealle Maisonet of Sweeny, Georgette Chaney of Angleton, Jessica Morgan and Danielle Martin both of Sweeny; grandsons, Christian Maisonet, Shane Maisonet and Brendan Gattshall of Sweeny, Seth Chaney and Samuel Chaney of Angleton; granddaughters, Megan Chaney, Jordyn Chaney and Katelynn Morgan all of Angleton, and Elizabeth Martin of Sweeny; brothers, George Breeze, Warren Breeze, David Cheesbro, Richard Cheesbro, Walter Cheesbro; sisters, Frances Jessmer, Linda Cheesbro, Rebecca Cheesbro; numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving the family is Palms Funeral Home in Angleton,  Texas. (979) 849-4343.

VIVIAN LUCILLE STRAUTHER

Vivian Lucille Strauther, born October 2, 1955, in Freeport,  Texas, and passed away Saturday, November 15, 2003, at a Hospital in Houston,  Texas, at the age of 48 years.

Vivian is survived by her mother, Dorothy Strauther; four brothers, Larry Strauther & wife, Cynthia, Carl Strauther & wife, Mary, Gary Strauther & wife, Theresa, and Bassett Strauther; one Godchild, Draymon J. Ward; along with numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Vivian graduated from Brazoswood High School in 1974 and then attended Prairie View A&M. While teaching and receiving her master’s degree, she worked with the West Columbia School District, the owner of The Kid Palace Daycare, worked for JJPT for 11 years, and worked for  Taylor High In Alief as a history teacher, and was a substitute teacher in the area for many years.

Visitation will be held from noon until 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 20, 2003, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson,  Texas.

A celebration of Vivian’s life will begin at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Lake  Jackson with the Reverend Hannis Prince officiating.

Pallbearers will be Carl Strauther, Gary Strauther, Carnell Strauther, Gaynel Strauther, Robert  Jackson and Wilford James.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sedrick Hanks, Keith Malone, Therma Jackson, Carl Strauther, Larry Strauther, Gary Strauther, Bassett Strauther, Draymon Ward, Douglas Richardson, Dorrell  LeBlanc and Horrell Underwood.

She is preceded in death by her father, Sam Strauther; three brothers, Dennis Strauther, Samuel Strauther and Rodney Strauther.

Final arrangements entrusted to Lakewood Funeral Chapel, 98 N. Dixie Drive, Lake Jackson,  Texas. (979) 297-6464.

DEACON GEORGE W. MARSHALL

Funeral services for Deacon George W. Marshall, 84, of Brazoria,  Texas, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2003, at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Brazoria,  Texas, with the Rev. Lewis Roberson officiating.

Burial will be at Paradise Memorial Cemetery in Brazoria,  Texas.

He died Monday, November 17, 2003, at his residence.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, November 21, 2003, at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria,  Texas, and from noon to

1 p.m. only Saturday, November 22, 2003, at the Jerusalem Baptist Church in Brazoria,  Texas. There will be no viewing afterward.

He was a self-employed contractor, a deacon at Jerusalem Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Leola Marshall of Brazoria; three sons, Lee Otis Marshall (Vivian) of Houston, James Marshall (Ruby) of Freeport and Donald Marshall of Angleton; four daughters, Bobbie Gee (Johnny) of Houston, Helen Parker (Robert), Linda Matthews (Lester), all of Missouri City, and Jo Ann Marshall of Brazoria; one brother, David Marshall (Christie) of Freeport; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Willie Bell Jr., Johnny Bell, Samuel Bell, Robert Jammer, Randolph Randon Jr., Melvin Woodard, Raymond Woodard and Howard Ross Sr.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Jerusalem Baptist Church and his grandsons.

Vera V. Fitz of Alvin,  Texas, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2003.

Vertie Mae McIntyre, 82, of West Columbia,  Texas, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at Memorial Herman Hospital of Fort Bend County.

VIVIAN LUCILLE STRAUTHER

Vivian Lucille Strauther was born October 2, 1955, in Freeport,  Texas, and passed away Saturday, November 15, 2003, at Southeast Memorial Hospital in Houston,  Texas, at the age of 48.

Vivian is survived by her mother, Dorothy Strauther; four brothers, Larry Strauther (Cynthia), Carl Strauther (Mary), Garry Strauther Sr. (Theresa), and Bassett Strauther; one Godchild, Draymon J. Ward; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives, and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held from noon until 8 p.m. Friday, November 21, 2003, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel in Lake Jackson,  Texas.

JODY WAYNE BOOKER

Jody Wayne Booker, 18, of St. Amant,  Louisiana, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2003, in Gonzales,  Louisiana.

He was a native of New Orleans,  Louisiana.

He attended St. Amant High School and worked as a stock clerk for Delaune’s Supermarket.

Visitations will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2003, at Ourso Funeral Home, 13533 Airline Highway, Gonzales,  Louisiana.

A second visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2003, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Religious services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2003, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant,  Louisiana, with the Reverend Vic Panaligan officiating.

Interment will follow at Holy Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, Alvin Wayne and Rachel Jacobs Booker of St. Amant,  Louisiana; brother, Dustin Michael Booker of St. Amant,  Louisiana; paternal grandparents, Alvin Henry and Roxine Nowlin Booker of Brazoria; maternal grandparents, Roland Joseph Jr. & Alma Clouatre Jacob of St. Amant,  Louisiana; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal great-grandparents.

JOSEPHINE "JOSIE" PORTER

Josephine “Josie” Porter, was welcomed into the arms of our Heavenly Father on November 18, 2003.

Her husband and soul mate, Ronnie (RG) Porter and both her parents, Thomas and Marella Messer preceded her in death.

Josie was born on March 19, 1926, in Lafayette,  Louisiana, and moved to West Columbia,  Texas with her husband, RG. She instantly became involved in the community, serving the West Columbia VFW Auxiliary and later became a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in East Columbia. Her mother was instrumental in influencing her in her strong Christian faith at an early age, which gave her strength throughout her life.

Visitation with the family will be held from 5 p.m. to

8 p.m. Friday, November 21, 2003, at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia,  Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2003, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel in West Columbia,  Texas with the Reverend Jim Gentner officiating.

Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest, West Columbia,  Texas.

Pallbearers will be Scott McCaskill, Tommy Alexander, Greg Hodges, B.J. Marthes, Kenneth Messer and Jerry Vandre.

Dependability and cheery demeanor endeared her to everyone she met. God blessed her with many friends and family members who will miss her dearly.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara, and son-in law, Ronnie McDaniel, of Universal City; granddaughter, Jennifer McDaniel of Universal City; grandson, Dale Tucker; nieces, Jimmie Ruth Douglas, Irene Stommell and Janelle Welch.

Her family wishes to express their gratitude for all the wonderful friends who gave her assistance and encouragement during her battle with cancer. Without them she would not have endured as long as she did, and for that we are eternally grateful.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Emergency Medical Service of West Columbia,  Texas, or the Helping Hands and Hearts Hospice of Lake Jackson,  Texas.
