Georgia Lary

Georgia Katherine Morgan Lary, age 79, of Friendswood,  Texas, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2003. Georgia Lary was born on March 16, 1924, in Pendleton,  Texas. The daughter of the late John T. Morgan and Annie Berry Morgan attended school in Gatesville,  Texas, where she marched in the school band, swam and played tennis. She graduated as a registered nurse from Providence Hospital Nursing School in Waco in March 1947.
On December 29, 1951, she married the late Captain Charles C. Lary Jr. She became a mother in 1954 to a daughter, Lynn, and in 1957 to a son, Chuck. The Lary family opened Lary’s Florist in the summer of 1963 under Mrs. Lary’s direction. Her love of flowers and family combined in this venture. Lary’s Florist brought many opportunities to share with family, including participating in the inaugural activities of George H.W. Bush and attending the Tournament of Roses Parade.
Mrs. Lary was a fifty-year member of Park Place Chapter 731, Order of the Eastern Star, and she served as chairman of the board of Park Place Assembly 35 for many years. She loved the Rainbow Girls and enjoyed watching her daughter and granddaughters serve in the International Order of the Rainbow Girls.
Mrs. Lary, known to many as Mimi, served as a living example of love. She was the most unselfish, most giving, and most loving lady one could have the pleasure to know.

Mrs. Lary is survived by a daughter, Lynn Ann Lary McLean and her husband Mark Allen of Friendswood; a son, Charles C. Lary III of Houston; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Lary of Houston; two granddaughters, Teresa Georgeanne McLean Hultman and her husband Carl Johan Erik of Dallas and Shauna Leighanne McLean of Dallas; a great-grandson, Connor Lachlan Erik Hultman of Dallas; a brother, C.W. (Bill) Morgan and his wife Betty of San Antonio; a sister-in-law, Teresa Lary of Conroe; and many nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers were nephews Robert Brown, Rob Brown, Jim Killian, Reid Morgan, Tom Morgan and friends Pat Garner and Robert Thompson. Serving as honorary pallbearers were the following captains of the Houston Pilot’s Association: Elmer Bell, Tom Lightsey, Jack Niday, Jim Pearson, Zane Skinner and Jack Vetter.
Memorials may be given to The Grand Assembly of  Texas, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, P.O. Box 797625, Dallas,  Texas 75479-7625, or to the Parkinson’s Foundation of Harris County, 7457 Harwin, Suite 308, Houston,  Texas 77036.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at Niday Funeral Home, officiated by Reverend Norman Fry. Interment followed at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster.

Lonnie C. Taylor

Lonnie C.  Taylor of Dallas died July 30, 2003 in a Dallas hospital. He was 56.
Graveside services were held Saturday at  White Rose Cemetery in Wills Point with the Rev. Scott McKay officiating.
Mr.  Taylor was born Oct. 16, 1946, in Brownwood, the son of the late J. Andy  Taylor and Willie Browder Taylor. He graduated from Gatesville High School and had his bachelor of science degree from Tarleton State University. He had been an accountant for Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance Company and was employed as an accountant for Centers for Long Term Care, Inc., at the time of his death.
Survivors include a sister, Linda Glover of Wills Point.

Raymond Reese Hopson

Raymond Reese Hopson, 78 of Prescott, Ark., died July 19, 2003 in Prescott. He was 78.
A memorial service was held July 22 at Shackleford Funeral Home in Prescott, and burial followed in Prescott.
Mr. Hopson was born Feb. 4, 1925, in Bosque County, the son of the late Jack and Lena (Parks) Hopson. He grew up in the Mound community. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in Bougainville, New Britain, Guam and Okinawa. After the war, he moved to Fort Worth and worked for the Recodak Division of the Eastman Kodak Company until his retirement. Upon retirement, he moved to Prescott. In 1946, he married Lillian Higginbotham. He was a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Duane Hopson of Dallas; one daughter, Donnal Gay McKelvy; one sister Lois Clawson of Temple; and two grandchildren.

Edward Skopik

Edward E. Skopik, of Waco and formerly of West, died Sept. 1, 2003 in Waco. He was 69.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption in West with the Rev. Ed Karasek and the Rev. Don Lofton as celebrants. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Skopik of Waco; three sons, Richard Skopik of Waco, David Skopik of Harris Creek and Larry Skopik of Elm Mott; one daughter, Janet Marie Skopik of Fort Worth; stepson, Mike Denton of Prairie Hill; stepdaughter, Sherri Dove of Oglesby; sister, Barbara Middlebrook of West; and 13 grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be made to Providence Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Hazel Nicks

Hazel Nicks, 85, of Killeen died Aug. 31, 2003 in Killeen.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel in San Saba with the Rev. Bob Miller officiating. Burial was in Harmony Ridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Nicks was born Sept. 11, 1917, in San Saba, the daughter of the late Hillrie and Mintie Patton Dawson. On Oct. 12, 1935, she married Lewis Nicks in Lometa. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2001. She was a housewife and a member of the congregation of the Assembly of God Church. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Lou Main; and two brothers, Jack Dawson and Weldon Longley.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy Nicks of Tomball; two daughters, Jane Hutchins of Purmela and Frances Hensley of Killeen; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be made to Cure Autism Now, 5455 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 715, Los Angeles, CA, 90036.

Mr. Weldon T. Mills

Mr. Weldon T. Mills, age 93, of Gatesville, died Monday, September 1, 2003, at a Gatesville hospital.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 4, at the Pearsall Cemetery in Pearsall,  Texas.
Mr. Mills was born on February 16, 1910, in Newburg, Comanche County,  Texas, to the late Albert and Octavia Neely Mills. His parents were pioneer families of  Washington and Comanche counties. Mr. Mills was a Purple Heart veteran of WW II, having been wounded in the Battle of the Hedge Rows in northern France following the D-Day Invasion. Except for his service in the U.S. Army, he lived all his life in  Texas. He had resided in Gatesville since 1967. He was a life-long member of Baptist churches in Comanche, Pearsall, La Feria and was currently a member of the First Baptist Church of Gatesville. He was especially proud of the fact that he sent all three of his children through Baylor University.
Mr. Mills is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alice Lee Wells Mills; his children, Weldon Mills of Gatesville, Sue Stewart and husband Al of Conroe, and Tom Mills and wife Nina of Belton; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Willie C. Knox Sr.

Mr. Willie C. Knox Sr., age 74 of Gatesville, died Saturday, August 30, 2003, in a Temple hospital.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Willie Clarke officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Gatesville.
Mr. Knox was born to Jessie Mae and John Claude Knox in Rockhill, North Carolina, on October 28, 1928. He served in the Army and was honorably discharged from Fort Hood,  Texas, where he began to barber and continued to do so for 50 years. Willie married Lila Mae Holmes on December 9, 1952, and they enjoyed 41 years together, raising six children, Tillitha Lois, Willie C. Jr., Lila Pearl, Jimmy Louis, Delores Marie and John Claude. He loved fishing and hunting, but most of all he loved the Lord with all his heart. He accepted the Lord and then joined Sweet Home Baptist Church. Mr. Knox sang in the choir for a number of years, leaving us to remember his favorite song, “He’s My Everything.”
He is survived by two daughters, Lila P. Knox and Delores Carter of Gatesville; sons, Willie C. Knox Jr., Jimmy L. Knox, John C. Knox and Joe Manning, all of Gatesville, Peter Clark of Sealy and James Moore of San Antonio; a sister, Pearline Felders; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lila Mae Knox in 1995; and a daughter, Tillitha Roberts in 2002.

Hazel Loveless Lipscomb

Hazel Loveless Lipscomb of Quitman died Aug. 18, 2003 at the age of 83.
Graveside services were held Aug. 20 at Quitman City Cemetery with Dr. LeRoy Collum officiating.
Mrs. Lipscomb was born Dec. 23, 1919, in Jonesboro to the late Belle and Vada Loveless. She was a 1936 graduate of Gatesville High School. A registered nurse, she lived most of her life in Quitman. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Quitman and past service chairman for the American Cancer Society of Wood County.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Robert L. Lipscomb of Quitman; a son, Robert L. Lipscomb Jr. of Quitman; daughter, Marsha Miller of Dallas; brother, Wilson Loveless of San Antonio; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Frances Jean Stevenson

Frances Jean Stevenson of Dallas died Sept. 6, 2003 at her residence. She was 71.
Memorial services were held Wednesday at Lincoln Funeral Chapel with Brothers Henry Peters and Daniel Braggs officiating.
She was born Aug. 20, 1932, in Thornton to the late Mary Brown Hunter and Govenor Ireland Brown. She lived in Hamlin and Big Spring for many years before moving to Dallas in 1996. She was a Jehovah’s Witness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest L. Stevenson; two brothers, James Brown and Govenor (G.B.) Brown; and one sister, Maxine Williams.
Survivors include eight sons, Larry Kelley of Irving, Delbert Ford of Midland, Melvette Ford of Big Spring, Michael Ford of Austin, Carbert Newton of Denison, Raymond Ford of San Angelo, Blakely Ford of Gatesville and Jeff Ford of Austin; five daughters, Linda Campbell of Dallas, Rhonda Butler of Carrollton, Carolyn Ford of Carrollton, Melody Ford of Hearne and Arleda McClintock of Austin; nine sisters, Joanne Elix of Roosevelt, OK, Bessie Jennings of Fort Worth, Emma J. Freeman of Dallas, Katherine McClintock of Austin, Joyce Covington of Hamlin, Janie Marshall of Hamlin, Minnie Robinson of Arlington, Mary Nelson of Austin and Bertie Pinkard of Austin; three brothers, Howard Brown of Abilene, William Brown of Hamlin and Charles Brown of Tulsa, OK; 31 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.

Willie Head

Willie “Susie” Head, 94, of Waco died Sept. 7, 2003 in a Clifton nursing home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Waco Memorial Mausoleum Chapel with Minister Alan K. Ritchie officiating. Burial was in Waco Memorial North.
Mrs. Head was born Feb. 26, 1909, in Waco. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Perry Head; son, John William Head; and granddaughter, Debra Lynn Kline.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Kline of Lorena; son, Perry Head of Gatesville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were Steven Kline, Greg Kline, Gary Young, Frank Curre Jr., John Sharp III and James Odom.

Ralph Evan Mersiovsky

Ralph Evan Mersiovsky of Gatesville died Sept. 9, 2003 at a Temple hospital. He was 44.
Graveside services were held Saturday at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple with Chaplain Warren Haggray officiating.
Mr. Mersiovsky was born Aug. 11, 1959, in Georgetown, the son of Wallace Julius and Lillian Louise Engholm Mersiovsky. He graduated from Jarrell High School and attended  Texas State Technical College in Waco. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Mersiovsky of Gatesville; two sons, Kristopher Evan Mersiovsky of Gatesville and Derrick Wallace Mersiovsky of Killeen; a daughter, Heidi Mersiovsky of Huntsville; four sisters, Linda Hall of Wills Point, Mary Lombardo of Missouri, Karen Holder of Burnet and Janeen Brock of Academy; and four grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Heart of  Texas Branch, 7003 Woodway, Suite 304, Waco, TX 76712.
