LILLIAN "ROSE" LINDSAY

Memorial Service for Lillian “Rose” Lindsay, age 66, of West Columbia,  Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m., April 3, 2004, at First Missionary Baptist Church, 146 S. 18th Street, with the Reverend Richardson Jr., officiating.

She died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Nairobi Hospital, in Kenya, Africa.

Rose Lindsay was born to Dorothy Gillis as the second of six beautiful children on August 11, 1937. Rose attended Charlie Brown High School and Prairie View College, and soon after, married and raised two children. After the end of her 27-year marriage, Rose moved to Africa to begin her career as an exporter of precious stones. Rose passed away in Africa of cancer pursuing her hopes and dreams as a successful businesswoman.

Survivors include her mother, Dorothy, and Thurman Gillis; son, Michael Lindsay; daughter, Gloria Lindsay; brother, Thurman; sisters: Clotea, Marie, Shelly; and granddaughter, Carolyn Rose Lindsay.

NATHAN GORDON

Nathan Gordon, age 84, of Brazoria,  Texas, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2004, in Pasadena,  Texas.

He was born on Thursday, August 7, 1919, in Savannah, Georgia. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Brazoria.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home in Brazoria.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 1, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Brazoria with the Revs. Jim Doyle and Sealy Smith.

Burial will follow in Brazoria Cemetery.

Nathan is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lona Mae Gordon, of Brazoria; sons, Brian C. Gordon and wife, Khomnee, of Dayton, Joel D. Gordon and wife, Marci, of  Texas City; daughters, Mollie R. Pickett and husband, Tony, of Humble, Leta A. Symington and husband, Ron, of Hollister, Missouri, and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be the members of Caleb Class at First Baptist Church of Brazoria.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, you remember Nathan with a memorial in his name to the charity of your choice.

Virgil M. Spurgeon, 87, of Sweeny,  Texas, passed away Monday, March 29, 2004, at his residence.

Wilma I. Williams, 83, of Humble,  Texas, passed away on Monday, March 29, 2004, at Vitas Hospice in Houston,  Texas.

Funeral services are pending with Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia.

PATRICIA BOLIN

Patricia Bolin, 51, of Angleton,  Texas, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Woodlake Nursing Center in Clute,  Texas.

Funeral services are pending with Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria,  Texas.

LEON VICTOR HORKY SR.

Leon “Leo” Victor Horky Sr., 82, of Angleton,  Texas, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at the Angleton Danbury Medical Center.

Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Angleton, with Father David Zapalac officiating.

Burial will follow in the Angleton Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Horky, Jay Horky, Richard Talesky, Greg Zapalac, Frankie Drury, Charlie Drury and Noel Machac.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2004, at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton.

A Christian wake service and Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m.

Leon was born on September 13, 1921, in Yoakum,  Texas, to Leo and Mary Horky. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the KJT, American Legion and VFW. He was retired from Dow Chemical and was a World War II Veteran.

Leon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Emma; sons, Leon Jr. and wife, Karen, of Angleton, Ray and wife, Joan, of Needville, Bill and wife, Rhonda, of Angleton; grandchildren, Jennifer Horky and Jeffrey Horky of Angleton, Bobbi Talesky and husband, Richard, of West Columbia, Jay Horky, Josh Horky and Ami Horky, all of Needville; great-grandchildren, Charlie Evanicky and Kirby Talesky of West Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Agnes Drury and Mary Merecka; and brothers, Louis Horky, Raymond Horky and Johnny Horky.

Final arrangements are under the direction of Palms Funeral Home of Angleton,  Texas. (979) 849-4343.

Jimmy Locke

Jimmy Locke, of Lake Jackson,  Texas, formerly of Jacksonville,  Texas, died on March 9, 2004. He was born on December 29, 1957.

WILMA IRENE WILLIAMS

Wilma Irene Williams, 83, of Humble,  Texas, died on March 29, 2004, in Houston,  Texas.

She was born Friday, June 18, 1920, in Markham,  Texas, and attended Lakewood Church in Houston,  Texas.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2004, at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia,  Texas.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2004, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel in West Columbia, with the Reverend Dave Barclay.

Interment will be at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest in West Columbia.

Survivors include her son, Edward Andrew Williams and wife, Sandra, of Houston, Michael Eugene Williams and wife, Kim, of Houston; daughters, Zelma Louise Croy and husband, Clinton, of Houston, Dolores Ann Myers and husband, Grady, of Houston, Carolyn Sue Hartsock and husband, Sam, of Coldsprings; brothers, Fred Wilson and wife, Becky, of West Columbia, Marcus W. “Hoopie” Wilson and wife, Joyce, of Pensacola, Florida; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William M. and Zelma Condrea Wilson; brother, Hubert Wilson; and husband, Edward A. Williams.

Memorial contributions may be made in Wilma’s name to Vitas Health Care Hospice, 4828 Loop Central Dr., Houston,  Texas 77081.

CHRISTINE MARIE BRIDGES

Services for Christine Marie Bridges, age 79, of Elkhart, will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2004, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Floyd Petersen officiating.

Burial will follow in Pilgrim Cemetery.

Mrs. Bridges died Monday, March 29, 2004, at Palestine Regional Medical Center. She was born December 22, 1924, in Tuskahoma,  Oklahoma, to Benjamin Henry and Tennie May Hughes Weldon. Mrs. Bridges was a member of the First Baptist Church, Elkhart, and the Newcomers Club. Mrs. Bridges worked as a school tax collector for the Elkhart Independent School District.

Mrs. Bridges was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Allie Patrick Bridges, in 1986.

She is survived by her sons, Gregory Bridges of McKinney, and Doug Bridges of Elkhart; sister, Joan Wood of Van Vleck; brother, Kenneth Ray Weldon of Waco; and a granddaughter, Allison Bridges of Hutto.

Condolence calls will be received from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2004, at Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

PATRICIA ANN "PATTY" BOLIN

Memorial services for Patricia Ann “Patty” Bolin, 51, of Angleton,  Texas, will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2004, at Dixon Funeral Home Chapel in Brazoria,  Texas, with the Bishop Ricky  Jones officiating.

Interment will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Santa Fe,  Texas.

She died on Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Woodlake Nursing Center in Clute,  Texas.

She is survived by her son, Jody Silva (Sunshine) of New York; one daughter, Jamie Bolin of Clute; one brother John Rego (Sally) of Edgewood, New Mexico; three sisters, Ruth Barry of Florida, Karen Moote of Amarillo, Kathy Brodver of Millis, Massachusetts; two grandchildren; special friends, Rita, Calia and Carl Dexter Williams of Clute; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

JOHN SCHMIDT

1919-2004

John  Schmidt, LTC, a United States Air Force retiree, was born in 1919.

He passed away in Houston,  Texas, on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 .

He was an Alvin resident for the last four years.

He was a Former B-29 bomber pilot in WWII, former cropduster, former transport pilot with the 705th Troop Carrier Squadron, 446th Troop Carriere Wing, Ellington AFB,  Texas. He taught Link Simulator for ROTC students at  Texas A&M and was a longtime member of the  Texas Ornithological Society.

He was a well-known expert on birds and had a birding expedition planned for South America.

He was a member of the VFW in Alpine,  Texas. After retiring from the United States Air Force, he moved to Alpine,  Texas, with his wife, Wanda.

When his wife, Wanda, passed away, he moved to Alvin,  Texas, to be near his daughter, Brenda, and son-in-law, Bill Johnson, and also his fellow transport pilot, Bill Dewitt.

He is survived by his daughter, Bennetta  Schmidt, daughter, Brenda  Johnson and husband, Bill; two granddaughters; great-grandsons.

Services are pending with Niday Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer Road, Houston,  Texas. (281) 464-7200.

Burial will be in Alpine.
