Herbert Duncan, 74, of Freeport,  Texas, died on Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Pasadena Health Care, Pasadena,  Texas.

BENNIE JOE CLIFTON

Bennie Joe Clifton, 57, of Lake Jackson,  Texas, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2004.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Stroud Funeral Home with Minister Roland Potts officiating.

Visitation will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Stroud Funeral Home in Clute,  Texas.

He will be remembered in our hearts as a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather.

Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years, Patsy Clifton, of Lake Jackson; sons, Craig Clifton and wife, Christi, of Angleton, Steve Clifton and wife, Tricia, of Clute; daughters, Laurie Mills and husband, Justin, of Oyster Creek, Stacie Clifton of Lake Jackson; grandchildren, Mason, Kylie, Bailey, Ethan, Scarlett and Paige; brothers, Frances “Red” Clifton of West Columbia; sisters, Clara McMillan of Jacksonville, Mary Lois Hoff of Santa Fe and Edna Potts of Houston; as well as other friends and relatives.

VIRGIL MARTIN SPURGEON

Virgil Martin Spurgeon, 87, of Sweeny,  Texas, died on Monday, March 29, 2004, in Sweeny,  Texas.

He was born Friday, July 21, 1916, in Bedford, Iowa. He was a member of Frank Phillips Men’s Club.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2004, at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia,  Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia, with the Reverend Dave Barclay officiating.

He is survived by his daughters, Brenda Marie Christen and husband, Guy, of Sweeny, Marsha Louise Tumlinson and husband, Pat, of Sweeny; grandchildren, Doug Boyd, David Nash, Robert Boyd, Shylah Homback, Alisha Tuten; great-grandchildren, Danielle, Brianna, Delaney, Cassidy, Ashley, Jake, Gavin, Nattalia, Jessica and Christian.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Spurgeon; and three brothers.

WILMA I. WILSON WILLIAMS

Wilma I. Wilson Williams, 83, of Humble,  Texas, died on Monday, March 29, 2004, in Houston,  Texas.

She was born Friday, June 18, 1920, in Markham,  Texas, and attended Lakewood Church in Houston,  Texas.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2004, at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia,  Texas.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2004, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel in West Columbia, with the Reverend Dave Barclay officiating.

Interment will be at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest in West Columbia.

Survivors include her sons, Edward Andrew Williams and wife, Sandra, of Houston, Michael Eugene Williams and wife, Kim, of Houston; daughters, Zelma Louise Croy and husband, Clinton, of Houston, Dolores Ann Myers and husband, Grady, of Houston, Carolyn Sue Hartsock and husband, Sam, of Coldsprings; brothers, Fred Wilson and wife, Becky, of West Columbia, Marcus W. “Hoopie” Wilson and wife, Joyce, of Pensacola, Florida; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William M. and Zelma Condra Wilson; brother, Hubert Wilson; and husband, Edward A. Williams.

Pallbearers will be Cameron Brown, Clinton Croy, Derrick McGee, Josh Moody, Grady Myers Jr., Andy Satcher and Tony Williams.

Memorial contributions may be made in Wilma’s name to Vitas Health Care Hospice, 4828 Loop Central Dr., Houston,  Texas 77081.

LILLIAN "ROSE" LINDSAY

Memorial service for Lillian “Rose” Lindsay, age 66, of West Columbia,  Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m. April 3, 2004, at First Missionary Baptist Church, 146 S. 18th Street, with the Reverend Richardson Jr. officiating.

She died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Nairobi Hospital, in Kenya, Africa.

Rose Lindsay was born to Dorothy Gillis as the second of six beautiful children on August 11, 1937. Rose attended Charlie Brown High School and Prairie View College, and soon after married and raised two children. After the end of her 27-year marriage, Rose moved to Africa to begin her career as an exporter of precious stones. Rose passed away in Africa of cancer pursuing her hopes and dreams as a successful business woman.

Survivors include her mother, Dorothy, and Thurman Gillis; son, Michael Lindsay; daughter, Gloria Lindsay; brother, Thurman; sisters, Clotea, Marie, Shelly; granddaughter, Carolyn Rose Lindsay.

LEON VICTOR HORKY SR.

Leon “Leo” Victor Horky Sr., 82, of Angleton, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at the Angleton Danbury Medical Center.

Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Angleton with Father Vince Dulock and Father David Zapalac officiating.

Burial will follow in the Angleton Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Horky, Jay Horky, Richard Talesky, Greg Zapalac, Frankie Drury, Charlie Drury and Noel Machac.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Palms Funeral Home on Friday, April 2, 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A Christian wake service and rosary will be at 7:00 p.m.

Leon was born on September 13, 1921, in Yoakum,  Texas, to Leo and Mary Horky. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the KJT, American Legion and VFW. He was retired from Dow Chemical and a World War II veteran.

Leon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Emma; sons: Leon Jr. and wife, Karen, of Angleton, Ray and wife, Joan, of Needville; Bill and wife, Rhonda, of Angleton; grandchildren, Jennifer Horky and Jeffrey Horky of Angleton, Bobbi Talesky and husband, Richard, of West Columbia, Jay Horky, Josh Horky and Ami Horky, all of Needville, Emily Horky and Wayne Horky of Angleton; great- grandchildren, Charlie Evanicky and Kirby Talesky of West Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Agnes Drury and Mary Merecka; and brothers, Louis Horky, Raymond Horky and Johnny Horky.

Alice M. Island, 47, of Freeport,  Texas, died on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at Brazosport Memorial Hospital in Lake Jackson.

Bonnie Thomas, 69, of Angleton,  Texas, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2004, at her residence.

Betty Jo Smith of Tomball,  Texas, formerly of Angleton,  Texas, passed away April 1, 2004. She was born June 10, 1926, in Cameron,  Texas, to William and Mattie Harper Smith.

Betty is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Bill Carmack; sister-in-law, Barbara Smith; nephews and nieces, Sam, Annette and Janie Smith, Michael and Kristin Carmack, William and Phyllis Carmack, Tommy, Diane and Jodi Robbins, Betty Jean Seigler and Lynn Williams.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2004, at the Angleton City Cemetery, Angleton,  Texas.

BONNIE WILLIAMS THOMAS

Bonnie Williams Thomas of Angleton,  Texas, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2004, at her residence.

Bonnie was born in Ratcliff,  Texas, on May 17, 1934, to Fred and Alice Vinson Williams. Because she and her late husband loved to fish, they purchased a shrimp boat and shrimped together for some time. Bonnie also loved gardening, playing dominoes, being at the beach and her dogs.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; one brother; and one sister.

Surviving are two sisters, Billie Denton and husband, Bob, of Angleton, Mary Oneta Boyd of Tyler; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2004, in the Palms Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Carroll Grigsby officiating.
