ETHELYN HAYNES

Ethelyn Haynes, 84, of Sweeny,  Texas, died Saturday, May 29, at her residence. Arrangements are pending with Baker Funeral Home of West Columbia.

GLADYS E. NIPPER

The family of Gladys E. Nipper, announce her passing on May 24, 2004.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bob in 1983.

She is survived by her loving sons, Robert C. Nipper Jr. of Ft. Myers, Florida, John H. Nipper of Cape Coral, Florida, and Robert C. Nipper, III of Sugar Land.

She will also be greatly missed by her many friends all over Brazoria County, and Trinity,  Texas.

Services for Robert A. Handley Sr., 68, of West Columbia are pending. He died Thursday, May 27, 2004, in West Columbia. Arrangements by Baker Funeral Home.

ESTHER WEEKS

Esther Weeks, 81, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2004, after a long illness. She was born in Campbell, Missouri, on March 30, 1923. She was married to Connes Weeks on August 4, 1941. Esther was a resident of Sweeny for 58 years and was an employee of Sweeny I.S.D. food service for 26 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Connes Weeks.

Survivors are David Weeks and wife, Mary, of Sweeny, Gary Weeks and wife, Lucy, of Lake Jackson, and Randall Weeks of Augusta, Montana. She had six grandchildren, Leslie Singletary of Lubbock, Joseph Weeks of Sweeny, Matt Weeks of Falmouth, Massachusetts, Andrea Weeks of San Francisco, California, Michele Becktold of Augusta, Montana, and Wendy Weeks of Matagorda.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2004, at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at First Presbyterian Church, 310 So. Virginia Street, Brazoria.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Brazoria.

ETHELYN MARIE HAYNES

Ethelyn Marie Haynes, 84, of Sweeny, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, in Sweeny. She was born in Beggs,  Oklahoma, on Sunday, September 14, 1919. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Pastor John Haynes Jr. and wife, Claire, of Lake Jackson; her daughters and son-in-law, Susan Williams of Houston and Nancy and James Earnheart of Tomball; her brother and sister-in-law Clinton and Vera Lee Waite of Sapulpa,  Oklahoma; her sister and brother-in-law Joan and Robert Lawson of Nacogdoches; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Francis Waite, and husband, John Haynes Sr.

Ethelyn was a blessing in the lives of all who knew her. Her strength came from her faith in her redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a very faithful and active member of the First United Methodist Church in Sweeny.

Services will be at the First United Methodist Church in Sweeny at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, with the Rev. Alex Lupo officiating. Visitation will be between 6 and 8 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2004, at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia. Burial will be at the Sweeny Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Earnheart, James Earnheart Jr., Heath Hagemeier, Neil Howard, Zachary Howard and Scott Jones. Robert Lawson will be an honorary pallbearer.

CAMERON JOSEPH HODDER

Cameron Joseph Hodder, 7, died May 29, 2004, in Uvalde,  Texas.

JOSEPH HIGHTOWER

Joseph Hightower, age 76, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Woodlake Nursing Home. Services are pending with Stroud Funeral Home. (979) 265-1188.

Robert A. Handley

God fulfilled his plan for Robert A. Handley’s life on Friday, May 28, 2004, when he went home to be with the Lord.

Robert Arbuckle Handley Sr., 68, of West Columbia, died Friday, May 28, 2004, in Sweeny,  Texas. He was born Wednesday, July 17, 1935, in Peachbottom,  Pennsylvania. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in West Columbia.

Handley is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty A. Handley of West Columbia; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Robert A. Handley Jr. and wife, Katherine, of The Colony, and Christopher W. Handley and wife, Karen, of San Antonio; daughter and son-in-law, Hillary and Edwin Brogdon of Willis; brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Virginia Handley of Accokeek, Md.; sisters and brother-in-law, June Moore of Phoenix, Az., Hope Bradley of Delta, Pa., Betty Mac and John Anzalone of Wilmington, N.C., and Joanne Handley of York, Pa.; grandchildren, Robert A. Handley III, James Brogdon, Douglas Kyle Handley, Jessica Brogdon, Mary Elizabeth Handley, Colin Brogdon and Kenneth Lane Handley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Esther Handley; brother, Porter Handley; and son, James Harvey Handley.

Robert was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid photographer and loved to build model airplanes. He was a WWII and military history buff.

Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in West Columbia at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004, with the Rev. Dave Barclay officiating. Visitation will be at the Baker Funeral Home between 6 and 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, in West Columbia. Burial will be at the Columbia Cemetery in West Columbia.

Pallbearers will be Edwin P. Brogdon, Christopher W. Handley, Robert A. Handley III, Robert A. Handley Jr., David Westfall and Curtis Zeigler. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Beach, Paul Longmire, Kenneth Messer and Alfred Ohlen.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church in West Columbia, The Gideons or the American Bible Society.

Omer Fletcher

Omer Fletcher, 86, of Clute, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2004, at his home. Omer was an area resident since 1942. He owned and operated Fletcher-Mayflower Moving and Storage. Omer was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clute and Clute Masonic Lodge No. 1334. He also was a former city councilman for Clute.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gussie Fletcher of Clute; three children, Mary Watts Alford of Clute, Calvin Dave Fletcher and wife, Mertie, of Brazoria and Donald Wayne Fletcher and wife, Pam, of Holiday Lakes; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank and John Fletcher of Anderson County,  Texas; three sisters, Mary Ellen  Johnson of Palestine, Daisy Tobey of Lake  Jackson and Winnie Lusk of Palestine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Daniel and Arthur Fletcher; and four sisters, Dora, Flora, Emma Jean Fletcher and Lovie Ward.

Family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lakewood Chapel. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at the First Baptist Church of Clute with the Rev. Mark Cox and the Rev. Duane Phy assisting. Pallbearers will be Bruce Lowery, Jim Scott, Truman Bowles, Andy Azlin, Charles Azlin and Truman Alexander.

Funeral services for Betty Frances Clowers, 70, of Brazoria, are pending with Dixon Funeral Home of Brazoria.

She died Sunday, May 30, 2004 at Brazosport Memorial Hospital in Lake Jackson.

Cameron Joseph Hodder

Cameron Joseph Hodder, 7, of Lake Jackson, passed away May 29, 2004, in Uvalde,  Texas. Cameron was born August 1, 1996, in Lake Jackson,  Texas. He is survived by his mother, Julie Hodder and her fiancé, Chris Lane, of Lake Jackson; father, Sean Hodder of Lake Jackson; sister, Lacie Daughrity of Lake Jackson; great-grandmother, Annie Wratislaw of Brazoria; grandparents, Donna Daughrity of Lake Jackson, John L. and Rosemarie Hodder of Lucerne Valley,  Calif.; aunts, April Hodder of Apple Valley,  Calif., Susan Pope of Lucerne Valley,  Calif., Jeff Hodder of Brazoria, James and Theresa Hodder of Clute, Jennifer and husband, Willy, of New York; uncle, Dan and Tina Daughrity of La. He was preceded in death by his No. 1 PeePaw, Frank Daughrity. Pallbearers will be Jeff Hodder, James Hodder, Rick Fernandez, Michael Land, Randy Smith and Coach Bobby Tosch.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004, at First Baptist Church of Lake  Jackson with Dr. Hatch officiating. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 2, 2004, from 6 until 9 p.m. at Lakewood Funeral Chapel, 98 N. Dixie Dr., Lake Jackson, (979) 297-6464.

The family would like to request, to all concerned and interested, that donations be made to memorial accounts that are to be set up at  Texas Dow Employees Credit Union at both the Lake  Jackson and Angleton locations, and Chocolate Bayou Credit Union in Alvin.

Bengene Matheaus Jr.

Funeral services for Bengene Matheaus Jr., 45, of Lake Jackson,  Texas, will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, in the chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg,  Texas. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. The Reverend Donald Kolkmeier will officiate the services.

Visitation was be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2004, in the chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg,  Texas.

Ben was born on September 29, 1958, in Wharton,  Texas, to Bengene and Linda Goss Matheaus Sr. He was a fireman for 23 years with the city of Missouri City,  Texas. Ben was a member of the Brazoria County Modelers Association and the Missouri City Firehouse Clowns. He passed away on May 29, 2004, in Caldwell,  Texas.

Ben is survived by his wife of 15 years, Jan Matheaus, of Lake Jackson,  Texas; son, Nathan Cole Matheaus of Needville,  Texas; stepchildren, Tracie McCartney and her husband, Erik, of Lake Jackson,  Texas; Scott Carr of Lake Jackson,  Texas; stepgrandchildren, Courtney and Kyler McCartney of Lake Jackson,  Texas; parents, Bengene and Linda Matheaus Sr. of Rosenberg,  Texas; grandparents, Gertrude Goss of Rosenberg,  Texas, and Sylvia Matheaus of Beasley,  Texas; brother, Curtis Matheaus of Burbank,  Calif.; uncle, Gerald Matheaus and his wife, Judy, of Rosenberg,  Texas; aunt, Jo Ann Matheaus of Beasley,  Texas; and numerous cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Memorials can be made in Ben’s memory to the charity of your choice.

Joseph Carroll Ward

Funeral services for Joseph Carroll Ward, 87, of Livingston, are pending at Stroud Funeral Home in Clute,  Texas. He passed away Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Lake  Jackson Healthcare.

Billie Jean Harper

Billie Jean Harper, age 61, went home with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 28, 2004, at Brazosport Memorial Hospital after a lengthy and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She was a Brazosport resident for 46 years. She was the owner and operator of Carousel Coiffures Salon until she closed her business to be at home and rear her children.

Billie Jean was born on January 31, 1943, at Punta Gorda, Florida, to Oveido and Mary Rye. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sandra; and her father and mother-in-law, Roy and Nadine Harper.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jan Harper of Lake Jackson; daughters, Robin Lynn Cortez of Florida and Megan Harper of Lake Jackson; son, Brian and wife, Crystal, of Clute; her two precious granddaughters, Madison and Sydney Harper of Clute; her brother, Fred Rye and wife, Carol, of Austin,  Texas; sister, Kay Weaver of Houston,  Texas; as well many nieces and nephews and in-laws who loved her dearly. Billie was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Stroud Funeral Home, from 5 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at 10 a.m. at Stroud Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Stovall officiating. Interment will follow at Restwood Memorial Park Cemetery.

Joseph Ray Hightower

Joseph Ray Hightower, 76, of Lake Jackson, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Woodlake Nursing Home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Stroud Funeral Home in Clute with Pastor David  Taylor officiating.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 1, 2004, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Stroud Funeral Home. Interment will be at Restwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Hightower served in the U.S. Army and USAF Reserves. He retired from Dow.

Mr. Hightower is survived by his wife, Nancy Hightower; mother, Lillie Moore of Ola, Ark.; daughters, Pamela Koenning and husband, Gerald, of Clute, Nancy Jo Hays and husband, John, of Oyster Creek, Cathy Comley and husband, Anthony, of Clute, Holly Casper and husband, Robert Barnett, of Brazoria; son, Joseph Lindell Hightower and wife, Deborah, of Lake Jackson; sisters, Faye Carter of Little Rock, Ark., Ruth Hamilton of Jacksonville, Ark., and Evenlyn Stogdell of Ola, Ark.; brother, Charles Earl Hightower and wife, Elsie, of Little Rock, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends.
