Anita Maceyra Matias

Anita Maceyra Matias of Lampasas died Nov. 25, 2003 at an Austin hospital. She was 59.
Funeral services were held Friday at Briggs Gamel Funeral Home Chapel in Lampasas with the Rev. Rolando Pena officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 7, 1944, in Lampasas, the daughter of the late Hilario and Louisa Perez Maceyra. In December 1988, she married Jose Guadelupe Matias in Belton. She lived in Lampasas all of her life and was a homemaker. She was a member of Primera Bautista in Lampasas.
Survivors include her husband, Jose Matias of Lampasas; five sons, Victor Maceyra, Robert Arce, Jose Arce and Roy Bailon, all of Lampasas and Ricky Maceyra of San Angelo; eight daughters, Ester Ibarra and Anna Arce, both of Burnet, Geneva Montoya of Marble Falls, Rosemary Martinez of Killeen, Laura Shands of Gatesville, Sally Cisneros of Austin, Janie Martinez of Belton and Debbie Hernandez of Lampasas; three brothers, Manuel Maceyra, Bill Maceyra and Pete Maceyra, all of Lampasas; three sisters, Frances Castrulta and Eugenia Johnson, both of Lampasas, and Lupe Jaimes of Killeen; 54 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Gladys Beasley

Gladys Loraine Beasley of Mertzon died Nov. 26, 2003 at her residence. She was 63.
Funeral services were held Friday at Shaffer Pioneer Chapel.
Survivors include her husband, Arlee Beasley; daughters, Beverly Strain of Grape Creek, Glenda Painter of San Angelo, Rhonda Watson of Mertzon and Sandra McGuire of Fort Stockton; brothers, Raymond Sims of Athens, J.R. Sims of Conroe and Walter Sims of Killeen; sisters, Marie Chambers of Gatesville, Laverne Spencer of Little Rock, Ark., and Linda Duncan of Abilene.

Virginia Williams

Virginia Mae (Nanny) Williams of Gatesville died Dec. 1, 2003 in Gatesville. She was 75.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was born Nov. 6, 1929, in Lott where she attended school. She later moved to Gatesville and was a member of the Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Hershey Williams of Gatesville; two daughters, Ruthie Cole of San Antonio and Edna Walker of Gatesville; six sons, Charles Williams, Steve (Pee Wee) Williams, Calvin Williams, Danny Williams, George Williams and Claude Williams, all of Gatesville; four sisters, Bobbie Fleming of Kansas City, KS, Maggie Hunter of Odessa, Grace Arrington of Dallas and her twin Marsha Mayberry of Gatesville; 23 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be made to the Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ building fund.

John Nowlin

John Nowlin, 45, of Gatesville died Jan. 10, 2004 at his residence.
Graveside services were held Wednesday at Post Oak Cemetery in Oglesby with Brother Sammy Box and Brother Billy Lawrence officiating.
Mr. Nowlin was born July 2, 1958, in Fort Worth, the son of Gilbert Nowlin Jr. and Aretta O’Mara Nowlin. He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his mother, Aretta Nowlin of Gatesville; daughters, Velvet Trotter of Arlington and Angela Gutierrez of Arlington; sons, Jeremy Nowlin of Fort Worth and Joshua Nowlin of Chicago; sisters, Patricia McGowan of Fort Worth and Kathryn Speck of Little Rock, CA; brother, Steven Nowlin of Converse; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were James McGowan, Paul Heslop, Tim Gibson, Jim Coker, Bruce Gipson and Wayne Howell.

Mrs. Stella McFarlin

Mrs. Stella Belle (Tom) McFarlin, age 85, of Gatesville, died Sunday, January 11, 2004, in a local hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Blake Kimbrough officiating. Burial was in the Mound Cemetery.
Mrs. McFarlin was born on August 28, 1918, in Comanche County,  Texas, to the late Sam and Ina Cummings Barnard. She grew up in Leon Junction and Mound. She married Johnnie (Johnnie Mac) McFarlin in 1936 and they resided in Flat almost all of their married lives. He preceded her in death in 1998. She was also preceded in death by two infant sons, Jimmie Carlton and James Hulon McFarlin. She was a member of the  White Mound Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Ellen Ann Gummelt and husband June of Mound; two sons, John T. (Buck) McFarlin and wife Betty of Flat and Sam McFarlin of Taylor; two sisters, Hellen Cole and Geraldine Cole of Flat; five grandchildren, Tamie Gebert, Jamie McFarlin, Kevin McFarlin, Jalean Sutton and Justin Gummelt; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the Mound Cemetery Association.

Dicie Norene Adams

Dicie Norene (Kelley) Adams of Rising Star died Jan. 12, 2004 at her residence. She was 87.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Lynn Sterns officiating. Burial was in the Turnersville Cemetery with Justin Herod officiating.
Mrs. Adams was born Feb. 11, 1916, in Coryell County to the late James A. Kelley and Willie May (Brookshire) Kelley. She married Richard E. Adams on Nov. 9, 1934, in Coryell County. She lived in Temple and Gatesville before moving to Rising Star 30 years ago. She was a high school graduate, and a member of the Faith Cowboy Church. She was also a member of the UMW and the Star Pride. She was past president of the Saturday Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Earl Adams; two daughters, Glenda Faye Adams and Clara May Adams; two brothers, Lloyd Kelley and Floyd Kelley; and two sisters, Clara Riley and Jane Gaddis.
Survivors include her sons, Iris Ray Adams of Hamilton and Jimmy Earl Adams of Follett; daughter, Patty Raye Davis of Rising Star; sisters, Marjorie Baize of Gatesville and Jo Spradley of Goldthwaite; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Lillian M. Oates

Lillian M. Oates passed away March 7, 2004. She was born April 27, 1920.
Lillian attended Plainview School, graduated from Gatesville High School and attended Tarleton State College.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Mary Mack; brother, Robert Mack; and half-sister, Margaret Fertig.
Lillian is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jack J. Oates; sister and brother-in-law, Eva Louise and Carroll P. Smith; and their sons, Ronnie and Dale Smith; sister-in-law, Jeannie Mack; brother and sister-in-law, Harry J. and Joyce Mack, and their family of Corvallis, OR; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Frank Caruso; son and daughter-in-law, James and Lucille Oates; grandchildren, Jack and Heather Mize and David and Crissy Mize; and great-grandchildren, Cora Weber, Max Mize and Sam Mize.

Funeral services were held March 10, 2004, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Humble, TX.

Linda Gray

Linda Jane Gray, 58, of Brazil, IN., formerly of Waco, died March 23, 2004 in Terri Haute, IN.
Mrs. Gray was born Aug. 25, 1945, to James W. and Lorene (Endicott) Smith.
She married James A. Gray and he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Julia A. Bartley of Indiana and Jamie M. Roy of Waco; two sons, Michael Gray of Waco and Mark Gray of Oglesby; brother, Jack Smith of California; sister, Shirley Sandlin of Indiana; and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Betty Louise Gesford

Mrs. Betty Louise Gesford, age 50, of Gatesville, died Wednesday, March 24, 2004, in a Temple hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at the Gatesville Family Worship Center with the Rev. Wray Nunn and the Rev. James Boling officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Gesford was born on April 10, 1953, in Clifton to the late Charles and Louise Kelly James. She married Stephen Gesford in 1994. She had resided in Gatesville since 1983. She was a teacher in the Life Skills Class at Gatesville High School for 11 years and was a school bus driver. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Gatesville Family Worship Center.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen Gesford; sons, Ronnie R. Carter and Justin Gilbert; daughters, Rita Lee, Anna Gesford and Candace Brandon; brother, Donald James and wife Sherry; sisters, Paula McCloud and husband William, Connie Musser and husband Rob and Tiney Kelly and husband Rocky; and grandchildren, Russell and Ryan Henry, Jessica Lee, Casey, Allyssa and Chelsea Carter, Zac Gesford and Brendon Robinton.

Ila Ruth Fruge

Mrs. Ila Ruth Fruge, 71, of Gatesville, died Thursday, March 25, 2004 at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wray Nunn officiating. Burial followed at Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Fruge was born on Oct. 10, 1932 in the Ames community of Coryell County to the late Leroy and Jewell Gaston McCutchen. She spent most of her childhood in McGregor and graduated from McGregor High School in 1950. She married Chris Fruge in 1951. They resided in Gatesville since 1964. They both owned and operated the Cajun Corral Western Wear Store in Gatesville for many years. She was a Methodist.
Her husband preceded her in death on July 6, 1996. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Trenton Don Fruge in 1979; a sister, Catherine Beaty; and brother, Wayne McCutchen.

Survivors include three sons, Gary Fruge of Granite Shoals, Richard Fruge of Cleburne and David Fruge of Gatesville; two sisters, Mary Melton and Ruby Evetts, both of Gatesville; two brothers, Alvie McCutchen of California and Gene McCutchen of Kempner; grandchildren, Ryan and Missy Fruge and Eric Hale; and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Anna Marie and Abbey Gale.
Memorials may be made to VistaCare Hospice or to the Gatesville Exchange Club.

Sue Davis

Sue Davis, 68, of Gatesville passed away on Friday, March 26, 2004 at a Temple Hospital.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2004 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Greenbriar Cemetery in Coryell County.
Mrs. Davis was the daughter of the late Russell Wallace and Elizabeth Steel. She was born in Beaumont,  Texas on May 31, 1937. She lived there most of her life and moved to Gatesville 20 years ago.
She is survived by her sons, Russell Davis and wife Robin, Chuck Davis and wife Candy; daughter, Sandy Kleshick and husband Jim; sisters, Dot Peyton, Barbara Flebbee; brothers, Robert Wallace, Bill Wallace; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
