Ruth Wiggins

Ruth Wiggins, age 61, of Lubbock, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, in a Lubbock hospital.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, April 23, at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Walter Davidson officiating. Burial was in the Mound Cemetery.
Ruth was born on November 10, 1942, in Coryell County to the late Walter and Naoma Blanchard Wiggins. She grew up in the Ewing community. She graduated from Gatesville High School. She had resided in Lubbock for over 40 years. She worked for many years as a secretary for Heath Trucking Company. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lubbock, where she enjoyed singing and traveling with the choir.
She is survived by her brother, Bill Wiggins and wife Barbara; nieces, Billye Rhudy and husband Sam, and Paula Adkins and husband Dale; one nephew, Paul Wiggins and wife Shannon; and four great-nephews, Benjamin Rhudy, Jordan Rhudy, Kaleb Hitt and Brady Wiggins.

Memorials may be made to the Mound Cemetery Association.

Mrs. Mary Lou Petsick

Mrs. Mary Lou Petsick, age 84, of Gatesville, died Friday, April 23, 2004, at a Gatesville hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at the Gatesville Funeral Home with the Rev. Rex Tilly officiating. Burial was in Restland Cemetery in Gatesville.
Mrs. Petsick was born on October 5, 1919, to the late John and Lula Gordon. She attended and graduated from school in Dublin, TX, and also graduated from  Texas Tech University. She was a school teacher all of her life and retired form the State School for Boys. She married Irby Petsick on December 14, 1946. Mrs. Petsick loved to play bridge and 84. She also was a very good cook. She dearly loved her grandson, Cody Lee of Gatesville. Mrs. Petsick was preceded in death by her husband, Irby Petsick in 1987, and a brother, John L. Gordon.
She is survived by a daughter, Kay Lee and husband James of Gatesville; a grandson, Cody Lee of Gatesville; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to VistaCare Hospice, 819 S. 5th St., Temple, TX 76504.

Carrie Louise Lay

Carrie Louise Lay, 72, of Gatesville and formerly of San Antonio, passed away on Monday, April 26, 2004.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2004, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Carrie Lay was born on August 19, 1931, to Elmer Smith and Ola Hudgins Smith in Crossett, AR. She married Chris Lay on September 22, 1951, and they were married for 52 years. Carrie supported her husband while he was in the Air Force as they moved to all parts of the world. They settled in San Antonio in the early ‘60s after his retirement from the Air Force and raised their girls. In their later years, they enjoyed traveling with the various fiddlers’ associations in their motor home throughout the U.S. Carrie will be remembered as being an elegant and classy lady. Her love for her family and friends will never die. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Louise Grainger and husband Pat and Jeanie McCarley; sisters, Virginia Dees, Bobbye Phillips, Robbye Bland, Shirley Lee and Sue Rice; grandchildren, Tommy Baker and wife Holly, Marc Grainger and wife Allison, Hobbie Rosenbloom and wife JoAnn, Derrick McCarley and fiancee Tiffany, Nicholas Parr, Courtney Grainger and Madison Grainger; and great-grandchildren, Cara, Alex B., Austin, Mason, Andy, Marrisa and Alex T.

Mrs. Pat Woodson

Mrs. Pat Woodson, age 95, of Gatesville, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, in a local nursing home.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville with the Rev. David Diggs officiating.
Mrs. Woodson was born to the late Joseph Franklin and Mamie (Brookshier) Millaway on November 28, 1908, in Guthrie,  Texas. Her family moved to Coryell County when she was a small child. She married Robert Lee Woodson, a Coryell County native, on March 19, 1925. They made their home in the Ewing community near Gatesville. When Camp Hood claimed their home in 1942, the family moved to the Arnett community, where they lived until 1951, at which time they settled in the Fort Gates area. Pat was a long-time member of Live Oak Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Woodson; and two grandchildren, Johnny Fowler and Patricia Woodson.
She is survived by six children, R.L. Woodson Jr., Virginia Fowler and Betty Byrom, all of Gatesville, Marianne Voss of Lake Belton, Jack Woodson of Haughton,  Louisiana, and Mike Woodson of Waco; one sister, Elizabeth Bigley of Joplin, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to VistaCare (Hospice), 2626B S. 37th St., Temple, TX 76504; or to Live Oak Baptist Church, 113 FM 107, Gatesville, TX 76528.

Lucille Mahana McCollum

Lucille Mahana McCollum died Aug. 11, 2004 in Lampasas. She was 94.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Dodson-Sneed Funeral Home Chapel in Lampasas with Tom Allen and Kevin Haynes officiating. Burial was in the Kempner City Cemetery.
Mrs. McCollum was born in Pearl, the daughter of the late Isom Franklin Elam and the former Nora Sebastain. She was reared in the Pearl and Evant area and graduated from Evant High School. In 1929, she married Monroe Mahana in Pearl, and he preceded her in death in 1957. She married Carl McCollum in 1959 in Cameron. He preceded her in death in 2001. She was the general manager of Shepard Alterations and Cleaning at Fort Hood for 20 years. She served as precinct chairwoman and was a member of the ration board, both in Lampasas County. She served as president of the PTA and was a member of Kempner Church of Christ. She was also preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include a son, Dorman Mahana of Lampasas; two daughters, Joy Bishop of Maryville, TN, and Judy Horn of DeSoto; two sisters, Jimmie Barnes of Corpus Christi and Ann Elam of Gatesville; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Blount County Public Library, 508 Cusick St., Alcoa, TN 37701.

Ella Clydene  White

Ella Clydene  White, of the Evergreen community, died Aug. 16, 2004 at the age of 89.
Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel in Hamilton with Bro. Don McCollum and Bro. Rudy Rios officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery.
Mrs.  White was born Dec. 4, 1914, in Aleman to the late D.P. Sargent and Stella Beacham Sargent. She attended school in Aleman and Ireland and graduated from Ireland High School in 1932. In that same year, she married Sidney Earl  White. They lived in the Evergreen community. She was a homemaker and an active member of the Evergreen Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Elvy, Lewis, Earl and Rhett Sargent.
Survivors include a son, Sidney C.  White of Mesquite; a daughter, Martha Ann Paul of Evergreen; one brother, D.P. Sargent Jr. of Dorchester; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be made to CCS Hospice, P.O. Box 389, Dublin, TX 76446; or to the Evergreen Baptist Church, 2471 CR 305, Jonesboro, TX 76538.
Pallbearers were Eddie Sargent, Robbie Sargent, Delvin  Schmidt, John Johnson, Bob McFarlin and Calvin Williams.

Mrs. Fay Webb

Mrs. Fay Webb, age 91, of Gatesville, died Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at a Gatesville nursing center.
Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, August 20, at Restland Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Grossman officiating.
Mrs. Webb was born on October 23, 1912, in Gatesville to the late Charles and Grace Cloud Guggolz. She attended school in Gatesville and graduated from Gatesville High School and later attended the University of  Texas. She married F.L. Webb in 1935, and Mr. Webb preceded her in death in 1994. Mrs. Webb was a Baptist.
She is survived by a daughter, Rita Webb Carter of Houston; a son, David Webb and wife Shirley of Round Rock,  Texas; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to the Coryell Memorial Hospital Foundation, 1507 W. Main Street, Gatesville,  Texas 76528.

Matilda Seilheimer Dreyer

Matilda Seilheimer Dreyer, 89, died Monday, August 16, 2004, at a McGregor nursing home.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. today (Saturday), August 21, 2004, at Stain John Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
Mrs. Dreyer was born July 10, 1915, in Hamilton,  Texas. She was the daughter of the late Paul Seilheimer and Matilda Pape Seilheimer. She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1934. Mrs. Dreyer attended business college in Dallas for two years, worked for the State School for Boys for 12 years and for Wal-Mart for 15 years, retiring in 1998. She married Alvin Dreyer on January 16, 1938, in Shive,  Texas. He preceded her in death on August 15, 1989. Mrs. Dreyer liked to watch all types of sports.
Survivors include a son, Larry Dreyer of Euless; sister, Freida Jensen of California; grandchildren, Steve Dreyer and wife Kathy of Lewisville and Kim Dreyer and husband David Smith of Jakarta, Indonesia; and great-grandchildren, Shayla Smith and Elias Smith.

Pallbearers will be Clarence Lucas, Gary Gohlke, Richard Jeske, Charles Neimann, Edwin Seilheimer, Johnny Stegomoller, Al Sharp and Manuel Widner. Honorary pallbearers will be Herman Kopp and Kenneth Sharp.
Memorials will be made to the St. John Lutheran Church Organ Fund, 10801 FM 929, Gatesville, TX 76528.

Neva Marlin

Neva Marlin of Temple died Aug. 20, 2004 at a Temple nursing home. She was 86.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Restland Cemetery with Loyd Hall officiating.
Mrs. Marlin was born Feb. 1, 1918, in the Ruth community of Coryell County to the late C.C. and Haley Graham Hubbard. She grew up in the Ruth community. In 19 45, she married Milton Marlin. They moved to California in 1957, residing in Banta, near Tracy, until moving to Temple in 1993. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Milton Marlin of Temple; a son, Kenny Marlin of DeSoto; and one granddaughter.

The family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association.

Paul Van Thornton

Paul Van Thornton, 53, died Monday at a Houston Hospital. Services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at Rose Neath Funeral Home, Hwy 6, Many, LA. Burial followed at Aimwell Cemetery.
Paul, a retired oil field pipe liner, was born on August 29, 1950 in Monroe,  Louisiana. At the time of his death he resided on Toledo Bend Lake near Zwolle,  Louisiana, where he was a fishing guide. He had previously lived in Gatesville,  Texas, where he married Jane Scott on April 25, 1998. He is preceded in death by his father, Richard E. Thornton, Sr. and his mother, Daisy Cox Thornton.
Paul was a loving husband, father and brother. He is survived by his wife, Jane Thornton; son, Kevin Thornton, both of Zwolle, LA; stepdaughter, Nancy Brasher of Fort Worth, TX; stepson, Randal Brasher of Allentown, PA; brothers, Richard Thornton, Jr. of Palestine, TX and Ronnie Thornton, Sr. of Lafayette, LA; sister, Pauline Tamsett of Houston, TX; nephews, Ronnie Thornton, Jr. of Lafayette, LA, Richard Thornton III of Dallas, TX and Sean Tamsett of Houston, TX; and niece, Melissa Thornton of Portland, OR.
