Eleanor Winn Smith Bird peacefully passed away on October 4, 2007, in San Antonio,  Texas. The fourth child of the late Thomas Wesley Smith and Mary Pauline Prewitt, she was born on August 4, 1919, in Alvin, Brazoria County,  Texas.

Judith Laura Hall

Funeral services for Judith Laura Hall, 64, of Angleton will be Saturday, October 20, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Burrell Chapel Baptist Church in Bailey’s Prairie with the Rev. Nathan Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Lake Cemetery in Angleton,  Texas.

She died Saturday, October 13, 2007, at her residence. She was a member of Burrell Chapel Baptist Church. She enjoyed working as a Nurses Aid. She loved fishing and keeping her yard clean.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nealy and Fannie Lee  Jackson and daughter, La Donna Jackson.

She is survived by her husband of 14 years, John Hall Sr., Angleton; sons, Gary  Jackson Sr. (Cheryl) and John Lee  Jackson both of Houston; stepsons, John Hall and Joseph Hall (Janie) both of Houston; daughters, Annette Moore, Fannie Watson (Michael), Ollie Faye Shannon (Alfred) and Yolanda Smith (Willie) all of Houston; stepdaughter, Veronica Carouthers (Shasta), Houston; special friend, Juanita Hall, Bailey’s Prairie; 36 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Sherman Hall, Robert Young, Ponder Edmonson, Patrick Hall, Michael Hall and John Lee Jackson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gary  Jackson Sr., John Lee Jackson, John Hall, Joseph Hall and  Taylor Hall Jr.

Visitation will be Friday, October 19, 2007, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Angleton.

There will be visitation at Burrell Chapel Baptist Church in Bailey’s Prairie on Saturday, October 20, 2007, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. only. There will be no viewing afterward.

Lucretia “Aunt T” Lemon

Funeral services for Ms. Lucretia “Aunt T” Lemon, 96, of Sweeny,  Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2007, at  Washington Chapel C.M.E. Church, CR 321, Sweeny,  Texas, with Brother Thomas Lemon, Jr. officiating and the Rev. Patrick Lewis, eulogist.

She was born December 24, 1910, and passed away Monday, October 15, 2007, in Sweeny,  Texas.

Burial will follow at Rainbow Cemetery in Sweeny,  Texas.

Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2007, at E. Viola & Son Funeral Home in West Columbia,  Texas.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathy V. Lemon of Sweeny; one brother, Julius Vanable of Wharton; and special granddaughter, Raysheka Green of Katy.

Amirion Delvontre’ Griggs

Graveside services for Amirion Delvontre’ Griggs, infant son of Ad’Rion Griggs and Johanna Grice of Angleton, will be Friday, October 19, 2007, at 12:00 p.m. at Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane,  Texas, with Pastor Wesley Hicks officiating.

He died Monday, October 15, 2007, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston,  Texas.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Betty Griggs Wiley and uncle, Amir Player.

Other survivors include his grandparents, Cheryl Griggs, and Michael Hall (Melanie), both of Angleton, Adrian Caesar, Bay City, and Shay Grice, Lake Jackson; great-grandparents, Mike and Rosemary Hall, Angleton, and Deacon Elijah Wiley, Brazoria; great-great-grandparents, Emma Dale, Bay City, and Nathaniel Grice (Rebecca), Brazoria; sisters, Janiyah Griggs, Clute, and Maliyah Griggs of West Columbia and a host of other relatives.

Family and friends will leave from True Honor Baptist Church, 713 Robertson, Clute on Friday, October 19, 2007, at 10:45 a.m.

Anastacio “George” Diaz

Anastacio “George” Diaz, 54, of Freeport,  Texas, has passed away.

He was employed for 31 years as a foreman for I.L.A. Local 30. He was also on the Executive Board. He was an honorable man, beloved husband and loving father.

He leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Leslie Diaz; two loving daughters, Carmen Diaz and Theresa Diaz; one son, Jose Arias; two older brothers, Joe Diaz and wife, Concepcion, and Tony Vargas and his wife, Delia.

He also leaves behind the joy of his life, his grandson, Julio Cesar Machado III and his father, Julio Machado Jr.; as well as two sons at heart, Santos Aluiso III and Alfonso Diaz Jr.; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

He was a special man, strong willed with a heart as big as the sun. Everyone who knew him agreed he was one of a kind. Although he only had three children, everyone looked at him as a “father figure.” He would give you the shirt off of his back. The world lost a special man on the sixteenth of October, 2007. We love you George.

Pallbearers will be Joe Diaz, Julio Aluiso, Frank Garcia, Alfonso Diaz Jr., Rick Diaz and Michael Vargas.

Honorary pallbearers will be Santos Aluiso III, Julio C. Machado Jr. and his grandson, Julio C. Machado III.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo and Teresa Diaz; and his brothers, Frank, Alfonso and Paul Diaz; and his sister, Tomaza Torres.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2007, at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Father James Lynes officiating.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2007, at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

Anthony E. Francis

Anthony E. Francis, 56, of Angleton,  Texas, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2007. He was born September 1, 1951, in Nevis, The Caribbean.

He was preceded in death by his mother; and stepson, Joshua Michael.

Tony came to  Texas in 1987 and worked at Angie’s Train Stop for many years, then went on to work for Angleton ISD.

Anthony is survived by his children, Amelia, Anthony, Shakir Francis and Thalia Sengal; and their mother, Patricia Francis; also his granddaughter, Danyelle Dorsey; sisters, Charmin, Icylma, Violet Harris (adopted sister); and brothers, Pat and Stuart; his loving aunt, Carmen Brown (Milton) and father, Pops; sisters-in-law, Roxane Richardson and Blondell DeSilva; brothers-in-law, Kalvin and Rambo; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and special friend, Linda Davis.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2007, at Ward Methodist Chapel, 425 N. Hancock, Angleton,  Texas.

Burial will follow in Houston Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Pearland,  Texas.

Dalton Glenn (Doug) Sharp

Dalton Glenn Sharp, 81, of Oyster Creek,  Texas, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at his residence.

Doug was born June 25, 1926, in Harrold,  Texas, to Tommy and Lena Marie Sharp.

Doug served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a pipefitter by trade and worked at the various chemical plants in the Gulf Coast area as a pipefitter/foreman.

He was an amazing husband, father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by his family. The only thing he loved more than fishing was spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his soul mate of 42 years, Betty Jean Sharp of Oyster Creek; sister, Willie May Maxwell of Gatesvile; children, Glenda Curry and husband, Bill, of Birmingham, Alabama, Tommy Sharp and wife, Susan, of Columbia,  South Carolina, Shelita Cook and husband, Ken, of Foreman, Arkansas, and Shayna Naquin and husband, Randy, of Sweeny; stepchildren, Shebra Adler of El Campo, Sammye Callahan of Palacios and Tradinda Kulcak and husband, Ed, of El Campo; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Sharp; sister, Lily Poe; stepson, Sandy Bender; granddaughters, Amanda Preite, Jenna Rae Adler and Alyza Preite.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2007, at Stroud Funeral Home with Pastor John Braten officiating.

We are grateful for the time we had with him and praise the Lord that his suffering has ended.

Henry Eugene (Gene) Marcum

Henry Eugene (Gene) Marcum, 80, of Lake Jackson,  Texas, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2007, at Brazosport Regional Health System. Gene was born May 19, 1927, to Henry Leslie and Bennie Olive Marcum in Bogata,  Texas. Gene served in the U.S. Navy during World War ll. He obtained his degrees at East  Texas State Teachers College in Commerce,  Texas. Gene was a teacher, assistant principal and principal at Brazosport High School. In 1969, he became the principal at Brazoswood High School until his retirement in 1991.

Gene was a member and past president of the Rotary Club, where he was honored to be a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow award. Gene was a member of Willow Drive Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Jean (Dotty) Marcum of Lake Jackson; two sisters, Glenna Boyd of Magnolia,  Texas, Louise Tipton and her husband, Charles, of Garland,  Texas; son-in-law, Larry Williams of Katy,  Texas; stepgranddaughter, Teri Williams of Katy,  Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Lilley Shaver and her husband, Archie, of Pittsburg,  Texas; brother-in-law, Robert Peterson of Dallas,  Texas; longtime family friend and neighbor, Betty Danford of Lake Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Pamela J. Marcum Williams.

The family will receive friends 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lakewood Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Willow Drive Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott McKay officiating. Interment will follow at Restwood Cemetery.

The family requests donations to South  Texas Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1210 Beeville,  Texas 78102, or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Carolyn York

Services for Carolyn York, 60, of Silo, who passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas,  Texas, with her family at her side, were held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Brown’s Durant Funeral Service Chapel. Bud Amlin and Donny Simmons officiated.

Carolyn was born February 16, 1947, in Bakersfield, California, to Truett and Jewell Robinson Blankenship. She was baptized on Good Friday, March 25, 1978, by Bud Amlin and was a member of the Mead Church of Christ.

Carolyn married the love of her life, Chad York, on July 18, 1964, in Durant. This union was blessed with two precious sons. The family lived in Silo for some years before moving to Angleton,  Texas, where she was employed for several years with the Angleton-Danbury Hospital and she was owner and operator of the Merle Norman Cosmetics. She returned to Durant in 1994 and was employed by Dr. Ken Grider until she retired in 2004 due to poor health. She enjoyed reading, cooking and studying history. Her greatest love was playing bluegrass music with family and friends. She was known at “Mom” to the young people that were often at her home. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife and mother with a huge loving heart.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her dear son, Randell Duane York, January 2007; both parents; and sister, Mary Lou Mulliniks.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Chad York and son, Cody Duane York, both of the home; grandson, Brandon Campbell and granddaughter, Bailey York and daughter-in-law, Melissa York of Grand Cane, LA.; daughter-in-law, Sharla Broussard and husband, Michael; grandson, Zachary  Woods and fiancé, Dannie Brown; grandsons, Kegan Ashworth and Glenn Rogers; granddaughter Katie Broussard, all of Utopia,  Texas; brothers, Charles Blankenship and fiancé, Jam Gammon of Tulsa, Gerald Blankenship and wife, Jeanie and Sam Blankenship and wife, Karen, all of Bakersfield, California; brother-in-law, Gary York and wife, Bernice of Port Barre, La; and sisters-in-law, Alta York and Ann Brimage and husband, Don, all of Durant; and numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Interment was held in Silo Cemetery with Jason Weaver, Josh Stanley, Zachary Woods, John Turnbull, Jason Turnbull and Preston Wells serving as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers were Levvin Wells, Wendell Peoples and John Buck.
