Ralph Earl Knoxon

Funeral services for Ralph Earl Knoxon, 60, of Freeport will be Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church in Freeport with Dr. J.V. Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Gulf Coast Cemetery in Clute,  Texas.

He died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at his residence. He was a member of First Missionary Baptist church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben Knoxon Sr. and Mary  Johnson Knoxon; grandparents, brother, sister and nephew.

He is survived by his brother, Ben Knoxon Jr., Angleton; sister, Doris Knoxon Jones, Freeport; aunt, Florida M. Lunford; nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Monday, June 30, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Brazoria,  Texas. A wake will follow from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be viewing at the church on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church. There will be no viewing afterward.

Active pallbearers will be Sidney Mitchell, Delbert Shanklin, Marvin Edwards, George Williams Jr., Andrew Knoxon and Paul Rodriguez.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Knoxon Jr., Terry L. Knoxon, Troy Knoxon, Pastor M. Louis Jones, Apostle Harold Higgins, Lenski Eitson, John Kevin Jones, Benjamin  Jones and Charlie Thompson.

Lucille Corgey

Lucille Corgey, 87, of Angleton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 27, 2008. She was born June 11, 1921, in Humble,  Texas, to S.P. and Flora Charley.

Lucille was a member of the Eastern Star and First United Methodist Church of Angleton. She was considered a friend by many. Her interests included swimming, golf, painting and her Bible study class. Her laughter never will be forgotten.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, B.L.; and her nephew, Larry Traylor.

She is survived by her sisters, Helen Aden and Flora Traylor, both of Conroe, and Dorothy Cornett of Blessing. Although Lucille and B.L. were not blessed with children of their own, she considered her nephews Douglas, Jack and Robert Cornett, all of Blessing, and Richard Traylor of New Waverly; and niece, Denise Traylor of Houston, as her own; her pet and constant companion, Tiny; and other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2008, at Stroud Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in Angleton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2008, at the funeral home.

A reception will follow the funeral services at First United Methodist Church in Angleton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 219 N. Arcola, Angleton, TX 77515.

Ann Cutter Sist

Ann Cutter Sist, 63, of Lake Jackson,  Texas, formerly of Akron, N.Y., and Williamsville, N.Y., died suddenly on June 25, 2008, at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

She was the beloved wife of Charles M. Sist of Lake Jackson, and the loving mother of Daniel C. Sist of La Porte,  Texas, and Matthew H. Sist of Angleton,  Texas. Daniel married Jessica Chabot and they are parents to Gracie D. Sist. Matthew married Maureen O'Henly and they are parents to Jake A. Sist.

Ann was born in Rochester, N.Y., on January 23, 1945, to Albert V. Cutter, M.D., and his wife, Janet Gracey West Cutter. She has one sister, Susan West Cutter of Brooklyn, N.Y. Ann grew up in Williamsville, N.Y., and attended Wilson College and the University of Buffalo, where she earned her B.A. and M.A. degrees. She and Charles Sist married in 1966 in Williamsville, N.Y. The family relocated to  Texas in 1983.

Ann worked for Baylor College of Medicine and for Michael E. DeBakey, M.D., where she documented and maintained his library of case studies and reprints.

She and her husband have traveled and lived in Spain, Germany and many U.S. locations. Ann loved to travel, garden, cook and maintain a gracious home open to her family and many friends. She was motherly, humorous and was adored and valued by all who knew her.

The family will welcome friends at the funeral service, which will be held on Saturday, June 28th, at Lakewood Funeral Home, 98 North Dixie Drive, Lake Jackson,  Texas. The service will begin at 10 a.m.

James Richardson

Funeral services for James Richardson, 61, of Hitchcock,  Texas, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2008, in the Rose Chapel of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, West Plains, Missouri.

Mr. Richardson died at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2008, at the Mainland Medical Center in  Texas City,  Texas. He was born February 12, 1947, in Pottersville, Missouri, to James Cecil and Bertha Lou Collins Richardson. He received his education in the schools of Bakersfield, Missouri, and on January 19, 1967, was married at West Plains, Missouri, to Anita Moss.

Mr. Richardson was a member of the National Rifle Association, enjoyed making a garden, playing music and wrote several songs and poems. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Mr. Richardson loved his family.

He is survived by his wife, Anita Richardson, of the family home; four children, Chuck Richardson and wife, Jennie, Brian Richardson and wife, Nora, Richie Richardson and wife, Toni, and Melissa Naron and husband, Art, all of  Texas; 12 grandchildren; five brothers, Charles Richardson and wife, Phyllis, Billy Richardson, Doyle Richardson and wife, Joan, Jerry Richardson and wife, Vickey, and Gary Richardson and wife, Janet; two sisters, Sherry Pemberton and husband, Rocky, and Terry Collins and husband, Morgan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents; one daughter, Sonja Richardson; sister-in-law, Debra Richardson; and brother-in-law, Lonnie Moss precede him in death.

Burial will be at Elijah Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Elijah Cemetery and mailed to Robertson-Drago Funeral Home, 211 West Main, West Plains, MO 65775.

Charles Billy Leatherwood

Charles Billy Leatherwood was born on March 10, 1953 in Bay City,  Texas, and passed way peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2008, at 55 years of age.

Billy was a lifelong resident of West Columbia and worked for King Ranch Turf Farms in Bay City.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughters, Jacquelyn Kristine Leatherwood and Shawna Leatherwood, both of Lufkin; sister, Ann Baker and husband, Bill, of West Columbia; aunt, Jane Weems of Arlington; and nephews, Kyle Baker and wife, Belinda, and Steven Baker, all of West Columbia. He also leaves behind numerous other relatives and friends.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Jackie Leatherwood.

Billy’s family received friends on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, in Columbia Cemetery with John Hamilton officiating.

Pallbearers will be Mike Wleczyk, Tommy Gene Hightower Jr., Cody Gupton, Gene Hernandez, Kyle Baker and Bill Baker.

In lieu of flowers, Billy’s family requests that memorials be made in his name to Helping Hands and Hearts Hospice, 412 E. Plantation, Lake Jackson,  Texas 77566, or CEMS, 400 N. 13th St., West Columbia,  Texas 77486.

Arrangements are under the direction of Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia.

Dorcie Strauss

Dorcie Strauss, 74, of Lake Jackson,  Texas, passed away on June 23, 2008, in Columbus,  Texas. She was born on April 17, 1934, in Cat Spring,  Texas, to Lodema and Arthur Hartmann.

Dorcie retired from Brazosport ISD in 1997 after 24 years of service in the Business Office. After retirement, she volunteered for the Brazosport Hospital Auxiliary for several years. Her greatest joy was her family, followed closely by the Houston Astros. She also loved to garden and travel. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lake Jackson.

Dorcie is survived by her three children, Terri Kay Brasher and husband, John, of Columbus, John Arthur Strauss and wife, Jody, of Dripping Springs,  Texas, and Dan Alan Strauss of the Clear Lake area of Houston,  Texas; five grandsons, Reid and Chase Brasher, Dale and Jamey Strauss and John Paul Goodenough; sister, Elrose Kollatschny and husband, Herbie, of Cat Spring; brother, Olin Hartmann of Cat Spring; and many other loving relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Dale Strauss; her parents; and three sisters, LaVerna Grebe, Willie Mae Smith and Ora Dell Hartmann.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 25, at 2 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Lake Jackson.

A visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus. Visitation also will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church. There was a short prayer service at 7 p.m. during the Columbus visitation.

Burial will be at Restwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Lake Jackson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you honor Dorcie’s life with donations to the Brazosport Regional Cancer Center (100-B Medical Dr., Lake Jackson,  Texas 77566), Christ Lutheran Church (P.O. Box 948, Lake Jackson,  Texas 77566), or Gulf Coast Primary Home Care (135 E. Hospital Dr., Angleton,  Texas 77515).

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to her longtime neighbors on Southern Oaks Drive in Lake Jackson, her many friends and loved ones, for all the prayers, flowers, cards, food and transportation during her illness. Also, for her special care by Dr. Emerardo Falcon and staff in Lake  Jackson and Dr. Julio Arebalo in Columbus.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie and Larry Volkening, Stanley Kollatschny, Dayne Rice, Jerry James and Michael Martin.

Our Mom touched many lives during her time on this Earth and will be greatly missed.

Julie Carla Crush “Gernand”

Julie Carla Crush “Gernand” passed away Monday morning, June 23, 2008, following a lengthy battle with several chronic illnesses.

“Judy,” also known by some as “Judo Judy,” was born in 1945 in Houston. She was a lifelong resident of Brazoria County. She loved to go fishing, crabbing and rabbit hunting with her grandchildren. She was a kind and generous person with a great sense of humor and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Author Lee Crush “Buck” and Glades Walker; brother, Johnathon Crush; grandmother, Alma Crush; and grandson, Jackie Lee Matthews.

Surviving family include son, Jackie Lee Dye and wife, Wanda Jean, of  Jones Creek; daughters, Mary Matthews and Cathy Clayton, both of Freeport; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

John Wasson

John E. Wasson, 73, of Angleton passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008.

John was born March 31, 1935, in Healdsburg, California, to Everett and Florence  Jones Wasson.

He leaves behind many loved ones, including his wife of 31 years, Velda Wasson of Angleton; children, Sandra Wasson of Oakland, California, Elena Plante of Modesto, California, James Wasson of Angleton,  Texas, David Wasson of Palestine,  Texas, and Anthony Wasson of Austin,  Texas; and grandchildren, Jennifer Cust of Modesto, California, and Zachary Wasson of Austin,  Texas.

A memorial service for John will be held Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Palms Funeral Home Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Cypress  Woods Care Center Auxiliary at 1351?2 Hospital Dr., Angleton, TX 77515.

Avis Evelyn Cabaniss

Avis Evelyn Cabaniss, age 97, of Gonzales died Sunday, June 22, 2008. She was born in Taft,  Texas, on March 27, 1911, to Frank B. and Alma (Henry) Jackson.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gonzales, the Pink Ladies of Memorial Hospital, the Garden Club of Gonzales and a member of the Gonzales Chapter of the Eastern Star.

Preceding her in death were her parents; six brothers; one sister; and her husband, Charles Victor “Charlie” Cabaniss, on April 30, 1996.

They were married in Corpus Christi on December 24, 1933.

Mrs. Cabaniss is survived by her son, Tex Cabaniss and wife, Mary Ann, of Lake Jackson; a brother, Roy E.  Jackson and wife, Lois, of Kerrville; three grandchildren, Cathy Salinas of Sugar Land, Carolyn McCaslin of Spring and Tex Cabaniss Jr., M.D., of El Paso; and five great-grandchildren, Allison Salinas of Austin, Holly McCaslin of Spring, Patrick McCaslin of Spring, Connor Cabaniss of El Paso and Megan Cabaniss of El Paso; numerous other relatives and many close friends.

Viewing and visitation will be held at Finch Funeral Chapel in Nixon on Tuesday, June 24th, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 25th, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Gonzales with Dr. Travis Burleson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Haase Family Cemetery near Gillett.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
