January 12th, 2005

Services for Laura Evelyn Jones, 90 of Andrews, will be 2:00 PM Friday, January 14, 2005 in McNett Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Glenn Pipes pastor of First Baptist Church in Eunice, New Mexico. Burial will follow in the Andrews West Cemetery.

Laura died in Permian Residential Care Center in Andrews Wednesday, January 12, 2005. She was born on June 10, 1914 in Putnam,  Texas. She married Richard J. "Dick"  Jones on January 21, 1939 in Lovington, New Mexico. She lived in Andrews since 1983. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include; Husband Dick of Andrews, son Richard "Don" & wife Cathy  Jones of Eunice, New Mexico, daughters, Betty Barnes of San Antonio, Johnnie & husband Travis Dehart of Alpine, brother Royce Shults of Pittsburg,  Texas, sister Marie Turney of Midland, five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

MARIA GALLEGOS
January 8th, 2005

Maria Gallegos, 82, of Andrews passed away Saturday, January 8, 2005 at Permian Regional Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, January 10, 2005 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel. Elvira Menchaca will officiate. Burial will be in the Andrews North Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gallegos was born April 13, 1922 in Fabian,  Texas. She married Pablo Gallegos in 1945 in Mexico. She moved to Andrews in 2000 from Odessa.

She loved to Sing and worship God. She loved to be around children and she loved to help people.

She was a member of La Nueva Jerusalem Church in Andrews.

She was preceded in death by two children, her daughter- Gloria Gallegos in 1952, and a son- Guadelupe Gallegos in 1973.

She is Survived by: Three Sons - Jose Gallegos of Odessa; Eustacio Gallegos of Andrews; Demetrio Gallegos of Andrews; Two Daughters- Dora Lujan of Andrews and Neri Prietro of Odessa; Two Brothers-Juan Correa of Odessa and Augustine Areola of Artesia, NM. Sister- Martina Lujan of Odessa; 9-Grandchildren and 14- Great-Grandchildren.

HAROLD GARMS
January 8th, 2005

Services for Harold Garms, 75 of Andrews, will be 2:00 PM Monday, January 10, 2005 in Means Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Rick Doyle, pastor of Means Memorial, Rev. Tex Cox, pastor of First Christian Church, Knox City and Burt Smith. Burial will follow in the Andrews West Cemetery.

Harold died Saturday, January 8, 2005 in Home Hospice House in Odessa. He was born on March 18, 1929 in Mullin,  Texas. Harold graduated form Albany High School in 1946. He served in the Army from 1950 to 1952. Harold attended Howard Payne University and was a member of the 1954  Texas Conference Champions football team, which recently observed the 50th anniversary of that title on October 16, 2004. He received a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters Degree form Howard Payne. He married Cleta Mattiza on May 29, 1954 in Brownwood. They lived in Midland five years where Harold taught. He had the honor of coaching Retired General Tommy Franks, Commander and Chief of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Harold moved to Andrews in 1963 where he taught for 27 years retiring in 1989 after a 34 year teaching career. He was a member of Means Memorial United Methodist Chruch, the West  Texas Gadabouts and the Andrews Senior Center.

Survivors include; Wife Cleta, Andrews, daughter Staci Clemmer of Plano,  Texas and one Granddaughter Kellye Clemmer of Lubbock.

BILLIE RUTH HENN
January 5th, 2005

Services for Billie Ruth Carnes Henn, 78 of Andrews, will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 8, 2005 in McNett Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be speaker Gregory Young, Branch President and John Bell, District President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial will follow in the Andrews North Cemetery.

Billie died Wednesday January 5, 2005 in Andrews. She was born on July 29, 1926 in Murchison,  Texas. She married Edward L. Henn on November 14, 1966 in Roswell, NM. They moved to Andrews in 1983 from Havre, Montana. She had also lived in Pecos,  Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She taught Sunday School, served as a Stake MIssionary with her husband, she was a member of the Relief Society and was a "Rosie Riveter" durring W.W. II in California.

Survivors include; Husband Edward Leon Henn of Andrews, sons Craig Lee Batson of Ft. Worth and Michael Leon Henn of Rapid City, South Dakota, daughters; LaVada Darlene Brinton of Salt Lake City, Utah, Daisy Marzee Barton of Andrews, Patsy Ford of Merkel,  Texas, Geneva Napper of Andrews, Marlene  Jones of Norfolk, Virginia and Jana Beth Hawkins of Manteo, North Carolina; brother A.F. Carnes of Avondale, Arizona. Twenty grandchildren fourteen great-grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

BRENNICE HARKINS
January 4th, 2005

Brennice Harkins, 81, of Andrews passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at Permian Regional Medical Center in Andrews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday January 8, 2005, at Trinity Baptist Church in Longview with Dr. Gary Orr, Pastor, officiating. Entombment will follow at Grace Hill Mausoleum in Longview. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time at the church. Services are under the direction of McNett Funeral Home in Andrews.

Mrs. Harkins was born September 22, 1923, in Kentwood,  Louisiana. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Longview. She lived in Singapore for 13 Years and she loved to travel with her sister.

She is survived by: 2 Daughters- Phillis Leunberger of Midwest City,  Oklahoma; and Lona Dell Goodson of Australia; One Son- Daniel Sullivan of Houma, LA; Two Brothers- Elmer Griffith of Escondido, California and Ray pierce of Monroe, LA; Three Sisters- Bonnie Strickland of Kentwood, LA; Wanzie Hilley of Andrews,  Texas; Helen Courtney of Monroe, LA. And 6 Grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren.

CHARLES RAY BROCK, SR.
December 31st, 2004

Graveside services for Charles Ray Brock, Sr., 81, of Andrews will be 4:00 PM Saturday, January 1, 2005 in the Andrews West Cemetery with Mark Wilson, Pulpit Minister of the Andrews Church of Christ, officiating.

He died Friday, December 31, 2004 at Permian Residential Care Center in Andrews.

He was born July 25, 1923 in Snyder to John Benjamin Laffette Brock and Annabelle Rollins Brock. He served in the US Army during WWII. He married Johna Francis Aduddell on November 27, 1949 in Lovington, New Mexico. They moved to Andrews in 1963 from Seminole. He owned and operated Charles Brock Hot Oil Service in Andrews for 10 years. He was Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife on August 27, 2003; his parents; brother: B.L. Brock; and sister: Johnnie Lamb.

He is survived by his son: Charles Brock, Jr. of Austin; daughter: Sandra Stover of Andrews; brother: Daymond Brock of Brownfield; sister: Marie Livingston of Llano; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Home Hospice House, 903 North Sam Houston, Odessa,  Texas 79761.

KENNETH "KEN" JACKSON
December 31st, 2004

Kenneth "Ken" Jackson, 77, of Andrews passed away Friday, December 31, 2004 at Permian Regional Medical Center in Andrews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, January 3, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Andrews with Dr. Jeff Donnell, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery.

Mr.  Jackson was born August 8, 1927 in Edgewood,  Texas. He served in the US Army after graduating from high school. He moved to Andrews in 1948 from Loraine.He married Joyce Keck on June 19, 1971 in Juarez, Mexico. He retired from Contel Telephone in 1990 as a Construction Supervisor. He loved horses and all that came with them, the saddles, tack and equipment. He loved to Visit Ruidoso, NM, where he sold tack in a store named Behr Barn. He loved going to horse sales, and he loved to be around his family. He was a long time member of the Andrews and Lamesa Sheriff's Posse. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Andrews.

He was preceded in death by a son: Kenneth Ray  Jackson in 1953, and a brother: Billy Ray  Jackson in 1978.

He is survived by: his Wife- Joyce  Jackson of Andrews; Daughters - Mary Ann Evans and husband Tom of Big Spring; Sherry Berry and husband Bill of Houston; and Stacy Haynes and Husband Mike of Eldorado,  Texas; One Son- Ronald  Jackson and wife Gena of Midland; Two Sisters- Geraline Falkenberry of Lamesa and Nadine Gunnels of McCamey; 5 Grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren.

PRESLEY L. HUDGENS
December 26th, 2004

Presley L. Hudgens, 79, of Andrews passed away Sunday December 26, 2004 at his daughter's home in Odessa.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at McNett Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jimmy Braswell Chaplin for Home Hospice will officiate.

Mr. Hudgens was born December 15, 1925 in Brownfield,  Texas. He married Nora Mae Aubrey on August 7, 1942 in Hollis,  Oklahoma. They have been long time residents of Andrews.

He was a member of the Andrews Church of God. He worked in the Oil Field for many years as a Roughneck. He enjoyed fishing and love to have family gatherings.

Three sisters and four brothers preceded him in death.

He is survived by: Wife-Nora Hudgens of Andrews; Two Daughters-Barbara Ann Helms of Odessa, and Nora Jean Warnick of Andrews; One Brother- C.W. Hudgens of Lubbock; 5 Grandchildren and 18 Great-Grandchildren.

MILDRED "MIDGE" BORLAND
December 25th, 2004

Memorial services for Mildred "Midge" Borland, 72 of Andrews, will be 2:00 PM Graveside, Thursday December 30, 2004 at the Plains Cemetery in Plains,  Texas. Officiating will be Mark Wilson, Minister of the Andrews Church of Christ.

Midge died Saturday, December 25, 2004 in Odessa,  Texas. She was born on January 7, 1932 in Yoakum County,  Texas. She was a retired telephone operator and a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include; sister Thelma Tabb of Midland,  Texas, brother J.D. Huffman of Holcomb, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, one borther and nine sisters.

MICHAEL W. ROGERS
December 25th, 2004

Services for Michael W. Rogers, 57 of Capitan, New Mexico, will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 28, 2004 in the Angus Church of the Nazarene in Capitan. Graveside services will be 4:00 PM Wednesday, December 29, 2004 in the Andrews West Cemetery in Andrews,  Texas. Services are under the direction of LaGrone Funeral Home of Ruidoso, New Mexico.

Michael died Saturday December 25, 2004 at his residence in Capitan, New Mexico. He was born on September 30, 1947 in Andrews,  Texas. He lived in Clovis before moving to Capitan 8 years ago. He was a math teacher and coached football and basketball in the Capitan Schools. He attended the Angus Church of the Nazarene. He married Sany Furrow on August 12, 1978 in Artesia, New Mexico.

Survivors include; wife Sandy of Capitan; sons Charles Todd Butts and Alan Shane Butts both of Ruidoso, NM; daughter Jamie Mychelle Broyles of Ruidoso, NM; parents Newt and Lil Rogers, Andrews, TX; brother Steve Rogers of Andrews,  Texas and 4 grandchildren.

DONNA BARNES
December 22nd, 2004

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, December 24, 2004 at the Andrews Presbyterian Church with Rev. Rod Peacock and Rev. Bob Zap officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews West Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to Home Hospice House, 903 North Sam Houston, Odessa,  Texas 79761.

Donna Jean (Collins) Barnes entered this life on November 11, 1932 received by her parents, Jack and Pauline Collins. Donna was an intelligent and active young lady giving her parents and sister, Jackee, many fun memories in Odessa. As a child, Donna loved to be with her mom so much that she ran away from school frequently to return home. Sadly, at age nine, Donna lost her mom to a fast spreading infection. After a few years, her dad remarried Pear Scott, who willingly accepted the “ready-made family” and fulfilled the role as mother and wife. During her years at Odessa High School, Donna participated in A Cappella Choir 1949-1950; Drill Squad Secretary 1948; Halloween Queen 1948; Runner-up for school beauty queen 1948-1950; and Shakespeare Club 1949. The Collins family grew to include other siblings, whose names are Bobby Jack, Nancy, and William (Tracy) Collins. The family unit was always important to Donna and she started her own, when she married Louis D. Barnes in January of 1956. They settled in Andrews to raise two children, Cynthia Jean and Joe Dan. Donna was a first-class mother, wife, businesswoman, neighbor, friend, and dog lover (Dolly being the most recent loyal companion). Living in Andrews has meant participating in her church, truck business, 4H Club, Sheriff’s Posse, school events, banking operations, and having many gatherings in the home. Her husband preceded her in death on October 30, 1993. She put her greatest effort into her family and home because she bore the most unconditional love available to mankind. After her children were raised, Donna became a grandmother to seven grandchildren, who all know her as “Munner”. These grandchildren, Daniel, Chrissie, Amanda, Joe Jerren, Ben, Jalee, and John Tyler will always remember the “special way” that their “Munner” treated them. Donna loved the Savior Jesus Christ and had committed her life to His honor through her attribute of charity. She had many friends young and old and will be sorely missed by all. “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up. Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh not evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth...” (1 Cor. 13: 4-8 KJV)

MARGARET HOLLIS
December 16th, 2004

Funeral services for Margaret Hollis, 93, of Andrews will be 2:00 PM Monday, December 20, 2004 at the Andrews Church of Christ with John Snider of Greenwood, Mark Wilson of Andrews, and Moody Conner of Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews West Cemetery.

She died Thursday, December 16, 2004 at Alliance Hospital in Odessa.

She was born November 7, 1911 in Ogallala, Nebraska to Charles Barrett and Mable Millison Barrett. She married William Webster Hollis on March 30, 1929 in Abilene. She moved to Andrews in 1957 from Hollis,  Oklahoma. While in Andrews, She had worked at Permian General Hospital as a LVN, and had worked from 1962 – 2003 as office manager for Jones-McCall Pharmacy. She was recognized as Mother of the Year for Andrews in 1974, and she was a member of the Andrews Art Guild. She was a member of the Andrews Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband: W.W. Hollis on July 25, 1951, daughter: Charlene  Jackson in 1997; son: W.W. “Bill” Hollis in 2000; 2 sisters; and 1 brother.

She is survived by her daughter: Helen Cherry of Andrews; 2 sons: Joe Hollis of Missouri City and Neil Hollis of Midland; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.
