ZORA FAY YOUNGBLOOD

Memorial services for Zora Fay Youngblood, 78, of Andrews will be 10:00 AM Saturday, October 30, 2004 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kerry Tilley, Pastor of First Assembly of God Church, officiating.

She died Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

She was born December 17, 1925 in Mercedes,  Texas to Derias Bond and Ollie Cowling Bond. She was raised in Stringtown,  Oklahoma and graduated from Stringtown High School in 1943, and graduated from Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas. She married Billy Ray Youngblood, Sr. on June 23, 1946 in Stingtown,  Oklahoma. They had lived in Organ and Las Cruces, New Mexico, Marble Falls, and then moved to Andrews in 1991. He preceded her in death on October 31, 1994. She was very proud to be a member of the Choctaw Nation of  Oklahoma. She was a homemaker.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister: Betty Lansdale; grandson: Benedict Kessler; and granddaughter: Christine Youngblood.

She is survived by her son: Billy Ray Youngblood, Jr. and wife Linda of Andrews; daughter: Patricia Vogt and husband Chris of Plainsboro, New Jersey; sister: Welo  Jackson and husband Nathan of San Marcos; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to the Friends of the Library, 109 NW 1st Street, Andrews,  Texas 79714.

OPAL I. BACON
October 25th, 2004

Opal Bacon, 93, of Seminole passed away Monday October 25, 2004 at Memorial Health Care Center in Seminole,  Texas.

Memorial graveside services will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Andrews Old Cemetery at Andrews,  Texas. Rev. Dan Dale of South Seminole Baptist Church will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of McNett Funeral Home, Andrews,  Texas.

Mrs. Bacon was born December 29, 1910. She married Charles Gaylon Bacon in 1931 in Drumright,  Oklahoma. They moved to Andrews in 1945.

Mr. Bacon passed away, July 15, 1966 in Andrews. Mrs. Bacon left Andrews in 1984, and moved to Jemez Springs, New Mexico to be with her son, Gayle.

She was a Cosmetologist. She enjoyed drawing, gardening, sewing and hunting for rocks. She also loved to plant trees from seeds, and they all grew well except the allusive cherry tree.

She is survived by: Two Sons- Walter Gayle Bacon of Jemez Springs, NM and John Bacon of Alvarado,  Texas; One Sister- Ethel Harris of Bethany,  Oklahoma; Five grandchildren and Five Great-Grandchildren.

O.E. "SHORTY" NICHOLS
October 20th, 2004

O.E. "Shorty" Nichols, Sr. 78, of Andrews passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2004, at his residence.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, at the Church of God in Andrews. Rev. Jason Connor will officiate. Burial will be in the Andrews Old Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

Shorty was Born December 7, 1925 in Brownwood,  Texas. He moved to Andrews in 1942 from Alvin,  Texas. He served in the US Army during World War II.
He married Billie Jean Tannahill January 17, 1961 in Andrews. He was a Roughneck for many years working for Holliday Drilling of Midland, and Carl B. King of Andrews.

He was prededed in death by his wife Billie Jean, June 4, 1998.

He is survived by: One Son - Osker E. Nichols, Jr. of Andrews; Three Daughters - Nancy Stokes of Sea Drift,  Texas and Betty Bellow of Stephenville,  Texas; Sharon Rose Sharp of Placiaos,  Texas 10 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren.

AMELIA ALVAREZ
October 17th, 2004

Amelia Alvarez, 79, of Fort Stockton died Sunday, October 17, 2004 in Andrews.

All services will be handled by Fort Stockton Funeral Home, located at 634 North Alamo, Fort Stockton,  Texas 79735 or call them at 432-336-3721.

DIANA LYNN CLAY UNDERWOOD
October 15th, 2004

Graveside services for Diana Lynn Clay Underwood, 54, of Fort Davis will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 19, 2004 in the Andrews Old Cemetery with Rev. Richard Svertz of Davis Mountain Community Church in Fort Davis officiating.

She died Friday, October 15, 2004 in Midland.

She was born October 28, 1949 in Breckenridge,  Texas to Silas Oliver Clay and Freda Belle Hamilton. She graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1967. She married Larry Eugene Underwood on September 30, 1983 in Newton,  Texas. They moved to Fort Davis in 1997 from Alpine. She was a homemaker and a member of Davis Mountain Community Church.

She was preceded in death by her father: Silas Clay and her brother: Tony W. Clay.

She is survived by her husband: Larry E. Underwood of Fort Davis; mother: Freda B. Clay Ward of Breckenridge; 2 sons: Chad R. Ledbetter of Duncanville and Carl G. Ledbetter of Bowie; 1 granddaughter: Tiffany L. Clay of Duncanville; and niece: Payton S. Clay of Corpus Christi.

JYNELLE McFARLAND
October 14th, 2004

Funeral services for Jynelle McFarland, 82, of Andrews will be 10:00 AM Monday, October 18, 2004 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews with Rev. Larry Brewer, Pastor of City of Refuge Church, officiating.

Graveside services will be 4:00 PM Monday at Blackwell Cemetery in Blackwell,  Texas.

She died Thursday, October 14, 2004 in Andrews.

She was born March 14, 1922 in Blackwell. She married Robert LeRoy McFarland on February 15, 1935 in Blackwell. She had worked as a bookkeeper for Levines Clothing Store in Borger. She had lived in Odessa and moved to Andrews in 2001. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blackwell.

Her husband preceded her in death on October 2, 2002; and her daughter: Robbie Ann Smiley on April 22, 2004.

She is survived by her daughter: Sandra Birchfield of Andrews; 3 sisters: Rozelle Roye and husband J.E. of San Angelo, Juandelle Weddle of Emory, and Carolyn  Johnson of Kermit; brother: Perry Vest and wife Margie of Ballinger; 5 grandchildren: Terryl Cope and husband Bennie of Goldsmith, Melody Herring and husband Tim of Odessa, Heather Burt and husband Jeff of Casper, Wyoming, and Jynna Chadwick and husband Marty of Andrews, and Josh Birchfield of Andrews; 12 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchildren.

GEORGE ELLISON "SONNY" TOM, JR.
October 12th, 2004

Funeral services for George Ellison "Sonny" Tom, Jr., 79, of Andrews will be 10:00 AM Friday, October 15, 2004 at the Andrews Church Of Christ with Mark Wilson, John Snider, Moody Conner, and Dr. Ervin Huddleston officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews West Cemetery.

He died Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at Methodist Hospital in Houston.

He was born June 20, 1925 in Midland to George Ellison Tom, Sr. and Mattie Zimmerman Tom, a pioneer ranching family of Andrews County. He graduated from Andrews High School in 1943 and from  Texas A&M University in 1946 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He married Billie Lou Wilhite on February 1, 1947 in Monahans. He owned and operated the Tom Ranch in Andrews County. He had other ranching interests in Gaines and Upton County. He was a past member of the Andrews Chamber of Commerce, and served as past president of the Andrews County Historical Committee. He had served on the Board of the Ranching Heritage Association. He had served on the Board of Trustees of the Andrews Independent School District for 12 years serving as President and Secretary. He was a committeemen for 17 years on the Agriculture and Stabilization Committee, and has been a director for the past 27 years on the Andrews Soil and Water Conservation Board. He was a former director of the Commercial State Bank and Andrews Savings and Loan Association. He was a member of the  Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. He formerly owned Andrews Lumber Company. He was a member of the Andrews Church Of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son: George Ellison "Snuffy" Tom, III on March 15, 1991.

He is survived by his wife: Billie Wilhite Tom of Andrews; son: William E. "Bill" Tom and wife Wilma of Andrews; 2 sisters: Barbara Jowell and Rosenelle Cherry of Midland; brother: James Robert Tom of Midland; and 4 grandchildren: Grant Ellison Tom, Erin Leigh Tom, Courtney Lana Tom, and Christopher George Tom.

OPHIA LEE "SUSIE" GROSS
October 11th, 2004

Funeral services for Ophia Lee "Susie" Gross, 96, of Andrews will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at Second Baptist Church in Andrews with Rev. Ivy Shelton, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery.

She died Monday, October 11, 2004 at Stanton Care Center in Stanton.

She was born May 11, 1908 in Trent,  Texas. She moved to Andrews in 1952 from Midland. She married J.O. "Shorty" Bass, and he preceded her in death in 1981. She married Henry "Scotty" Gross, and he preceded her in death in 1981. She was a homemaker and a member of the Second Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by her 2 sisters: Jessie Fredrick and Joye Ragle; and 1 brother: J.D. Flood.

She is survived by her 5 sons: Jessie Bass of San Diego, California, Otis Bass of Amarillo, Troy Bass, Claude Bass, and Jerry Bass, all of Midland; 1 daughter: Betty Jean Armstrong of Cisco; 1 step daughter: Mickie Berry of Redding, California; 5 sisters: Roxie Owens of Ada,  Oklahoma, Jonnie  Johnson of Midland; Josie Van Ness of Fort Worth; Dorothy Jogupolus of Pittsburg, California, and Connie Roe of Llano; 2 brothers: Thomas Flood of Odessa and Foye Flood of Abilene; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.

LEE DON HOBBS
October 1st, 2004

Services for Lee Don Hobbs, 39 of Andrews, will be 10:00 AM Monday, October 4, 2004 in Second Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Ivy Shelton. Burial will follow in the Andrews North Cemetery.

Lee died in Odessa October 1, 2004. He was born on December 29, 1964 in Morton,  Texas. He was a Baptist and worked as a roustabout for Tucker Construction.

Survivors: Father; Vernie Hobbs, Andrews, Daughters; Samatha Valenzuela and Danielle Hobbs both of Andrews; Brothers: Ricky, Vernon and Jimmy all of Andrews, Sisters; Carol Ann Hobbs, Linda Day Cherry, Katina Renee Russell and Charlotte Lorin Garrett all of Andrews.

CHRIS McCULLOUGH
September 15th, 2004

Funeral services for Chris McCullough, 18, of Andrews will be 2:00 PM Saturday, September 18, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Andrews with Dr. Jeff Donnell, Pastor, and Cliff Lightfoot of Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews North Cemetery.

He died Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

He was born February 15, 1986 in Andrews and has lived in Andrews for all his life. He had attended Andrews High School and played baseball and received all district honors in football. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: James "Red" and LaVerne McCullough and grandmother: Jimmie Shellenberger.

He is survived by his parents: Randy and Brenda McCullough of Andrews; sister: Heather McCullough of Midland; grandfather: James Shellenberger of Fort Stockton; 2 nephews: Matthew Jacob McCullough and Evan James McCullough of Andrews; and niece: Sadie Angel Westfall of Odessa.
