August 1st, 2004

Wesley M. Gross, 76, of Andrews passed away Sunday August 1, 2004 at Hospice House in Odessa.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday August 3, 2004 at Second Baptist Church in Andrews. Leslie Gross, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Andrews Old Cemetery.

Wesley was born May 16, 1928 in Holliday,  Texas. He married Geneva C. Mills on March 8, 1947 in Seagraves,  Texas. They moved to Andrews in 1947. He was a backhole operator for Coats Construction for many years. He loved to work and loved to fish and camp. He never met a stranger and he loved children. He was preceded in death by his wife Geneva Gross in 1998, Son- Wesley A Gross in 1950; and Two grandsons-Randal Williford, Jr. and Joshua Johnson.

He is survived by: Three Daughters- Marquita  Johnson of San Angelo,  Texas, Linda Talasky of Chico,  Texas, and Debbie Dockery of Comanche,  Texas; Two Brothers- J.B. Gross and Lonnie Gross, both of Andrews; One sister-Evalyn Bonham of Kermit,  Texas; Three Grandchildren; and Two Great-Grandchildren.

MANUELA "MELA" MORENO
August 1st, 2004

Manuela "Mela" Moreno, 86, of Andrews passed away Sunday August 1, 2004 at Alliance Hospital in Odessa.

Rosary services will be 7:00 PM Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at McNett Funeral Home in Andrews. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Andrews. Father Bernard Gully will officiate. Burial will be in Andrews West Cemetery.

Mrs. Moreno was born May 18, 1918 in Pierdrasnegras, Mexico. She married Antonio Moreno and he preceded her in death in August of 1994. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Andrews. She was very active with her Church duties. She was a member of the Legion of Mary, and the Women's Club. She was active in Eucharistic Ministries, She Lead the Rosary for many families at the loss of a loved one. She had a devotion to leading the Rosary in Peoples homes. She also loved to cook.

She is survived by: Two Daughters-Lydia Bueno of Andrews, and Lucia M. Ayala of San Antonio; Two Son-Juan Moreno of Aurora, Illinois and Victor Moreno of Andrews; 12 Grandchildren and 9 Great-Grandchildren.

EULA SOUTHARD
July 28th, 2004

Graveside services for Eula Southard, 80, of Andrews will be 10:00 AM Friday, July 30, 2004 in the Andrews North Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Braswell, Home Hospice Chaplain of Odessa, officiating.

She died Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Permian Residential Care Center in Andrews.

She was born April 22, 1924 in Hays, Kansas. She married Vernon Southard on November 12, 1966 in Clayton, New Mexico. She had worked as a surgical nurse at Coon Memorial Hospital in Dalhart and Northwest  Texas Medical Center in Amarillo. They moved to Andrews in 1986 from Dalhart. She was a Methodist.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers.

She is survived by her husband: Vernon Southard of Andrews; 2 daughters: Vicky Parrott of Gainesville, Florida and La Nell Turpin of Amarillo; and 3 grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Home Hospice, 516 North  Texas, Odessa,  Texas 79761.

JOHN S. KENNEDY
July 27th, 2004

Graveside services for John S. Kennedy, 77 of Andrews will be, 2:00 PM Friday, July 30, 2004 in the Andrews North Cemetery.

John died Tuesday, July 27, 2004 in Andrews. He was born on January 22, 1927 in Ballinger,  Texas. He married Oma Lee Green on February 12, 1948 in Monahans,  Texas. John was a lease operator for Mobil Oil for 44 years, he retired in January 1992. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include: Wife Oma Lee, Andrews; Daughters; Dedra Rowley, Houston,  Texas and Gayla Kennedy, Andrews,  Texas; sister Helen Earnshaw, Ballinger,  Texas and six grandchildren.

MICHAEL L. WILLIAMS
July 26th, 2004

Funeral services for Michael L. Williams, 48 of Dumas, will be 10:00 AM Thursday, July 29, 2004 in the Church of Christ in Borger,  Texas. Officiating will be minister Stan Mitchell.

Graveside services will be 4:00 PM Friday, July 30, 2004 in Andrews West Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Bushart, pastor of St Lukes Methodist Church in Odessa,  Texas officiating.

Michael died in Dumas,  Texas July 26, 2004.

He was born on September 10, 1955 in Pforzheim, Germany. He was employed with Swift Beef Packing Plant in Dumas.

Survivors include; Sister Beck Forbus, Odessa,  Texas; brother; Martin Jay Williams II, West Columbia,  Texas.
Services are under the direction of Brown Funeral Directors in Borger,  Texas.

WILLARD TURNER
July 18th, 2004

Graveside services for Willard H. "George" Turner, 88, of Andrews will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 21, 2004 in the Andrews Old Cemetery with Dr. Jeff Donnell, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Andrews, officiating.

He died Sunday, July 18, 2004 at Permian Residential Care Center in Andrews.

He was born February 28, 1916 in Wood County,  Texas to Ernest Turner and Etta Stanley Turner. He married Mary Loudine Spigener on September 15, 1939 in Quitman,  Texas. They moved to Andrews in 1956. He retired as a driller from Norwood Drilling after 35 years. He was preceded in death by his wife on October 5, 2002. He was a member of the Andrews Masonic Lodge #1024 and the First Baptist Church in Andrews.

He is survived by 2 sons: Conrad Turner of Odessa and Alan Turner of Plano; 2 daughters: Dian Whittington of Mineola and Phyllis Duncan of Frederick, Maryland; 1 sister: Maida Lindburg of St. Paul, Minnesota; 6 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

GENE IRWIN
July 17th, 2004

Services for Gene Irwin, 83 of Andrews will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 20, 2004 in Means Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Dr. Brian Gordon. Burial will follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery.

Gene died in Andrews on Saturday, July 17, 2004. He was born on June 21, 1921 in Midland,  Texas. Gene's parents Knox Hunter Irwin, Sr. and Anna Lee Pinnell Irwin were Andrews County pioneers. Gene married Hedy Price in Lovington, New Mexico on April 8, 1993. Gene was involved in ranching with his father after being discharged from the Army in 1945. Gene served as commissioner of Precinct Two in Andrews County for twenty-four years. During this time Andrews had a tremendous growth. During his terms, the county parks were developed, the Little League and other ball parks were built. The Community Building, the Youth Center and Scout facilities, the County Golf Course, improvements to the Courthouse, rodeo grounds, airport facilities, were a few of the many projects completed. Gene was honored by the Chamber of Commerce as Man of the Year in 1968. During the time of rearing his children, he and his children received many awards and recognition for their efforts and interest in 4-H and other Extension work. After leaving office as a commissioner in 1974, he expanded his ranching and farming interest. He served on the ASCS Committee and was still an active director (serving for 28 years) on the Andrews Soil and Water Conservation District # 246. Gene was a member of the Means Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include; wife Hedy of Andrews; Son Doug and wife Terry Irwin of Andrews; Daughters Susan Irwin Watts of Kerrville,  Texas; Lee Ann and husband Pete Ballew of Andrews; six grandchildren Derrick Watts, Max Watts, Coy Irwin, Tanner Ballew, Kacee Ballew and Bailey Ballew Morgan; two great grandchildren, Conner Watts and Peyton Watts; step-children; Bill Price, Karla Morris, Kay Wood and Claude Price all of Andrews; 10 step-grandchildren and 22 step-great grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his first wife Virginia Lee Brown Irwin on November 2, 1987. He was also preceded in death by a grandson; Chris Irwin on November 21, 2003, a brother Knox Hunter Irwin, Jr. in 1991 and a sister Billie Irwin Edmiston in 1988.

PAT LONG
July 15th, 2004

Funeral services for Pat Long, 72, of Andrews will be 10:00 AM Monday, July 19, 2004 at the Andrews Church Of Christ with Mark Wilson, Pulpit Minsiter, and Brian Gordon, MD, of Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews North Cemetery.

She died Thursday, July 15, 2004 at her residence in Andrews.

She was born April 1, 1932 in Bristow,  Oklahoma to James Mann and Julia Hayes Mann. She married L.W. "Chief" Long on December 16, 1950 in Sapulpa,  Oklahoma. They moved to Andrews in 1952 from San Angelo. She retired from First National Bank in Andrews after 20 years. She was a member of the Andrews Church Of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 son: Robby Long in 2002; 6 sisters; and 3 brothers.

She is survived by her husband: Chief Long of Andrews; 1 son: Roddy Long and wife Susan of Andrews; 3 sisters: Barbara Reeves of Frankston,  Texas, Louise Freeman of Sapulpa,  Oklahoma, and Glenna Rainwater of Aztec, New Mexico; 1 brother: Kenneth Mann of Bristow,  Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to the Andrews Church Of Christ, %Children's Home Fund, PO Box 1577, Andrews,  Texas 79714.

WILLIAM 'BILL' CADDELL

Graveside services for William "Bill" Caddell, 77 of Andrews will be 2:00 PM Sunday, February 27, 2005 in the Andrews Old Cemetery with Dr. Jeff Donnell, Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Andrews, officiating.

Bill died Thursday, February 24, 2005 at Permian Regional Medical Center in Andrews.

Bill was born on August 10, 1927 in Columbus, Mississippi. He served in the U.S. Navy. He married Bettie  White on August 8, 1960 in Lovington, New Mexico. He moved to Andrews in 1993 from Big Sandy. He was a retired pipe fitter and a Baptist.

He is survived by his wife: Bettie Caddell of Andrews, Sons: Ray and James of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, and Joel of Massachusetts; Daughter: Deborah Ledford of Kings Mountain, North Carolina; Stepsons: David Baker of Andrews and Norman Baker of Houston; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Emory E. Penny, 83, of Andrews passed away Sunday February 20, 2005, at Permian Residential Care Center in Andrews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, at McNett Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Rick Doyle will officiate. Burial will be in Andrews West Cemetery.

Mr. Penny was born February 12, 1922 in Dekalb,  Texas. He married Ann Murrel Page January 23, 1943 in Texarkana,  Texas. They moved to Andrews in 1957. He was a Mechanic and loved to work on engines and cars. He loved to go camping with his family. His favorite places were in the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado. He was a very loving Father and Grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one sister.

He is Survived by: Wife Ann Penny of Andrews; Two Sons-Emory Donald Penny of Arlington and Glenn Penny of Andrews; Two Brothers- Dewey Penny of Clarksville, and Eddy Penny of West Point, ; One Sister- Evelyn Arterbury of Texarkana, Arkansas; 4-Grandchildren and 12-Great-Grandchildren.

Cas Barnett, 66, of Andrews passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at Permian Regional Medical Center in Andrews.

Funeral Services will be 4:00 PM Saturday at Means Memorial Methodist Church in Andrews. Rev. Rick Doyle will officiate. Burial will be in Andrews West Cemetery.

Cas was born March 15, 1938 in Zama, Mississippi. He moved to Andrews in 1992 from Odessa. He married Pearl Austin Locke September 4, 1995 in Andrews. He owned and operated Palmer-Barnett, for the past 15 years, a company that specializes in manufacturing Steel Tanks. He has owned several steel tanks companies in the past. Cas was a member of Means Memorial Methodist Church. He loved to work and loved his family.

He is survived by: Wife-Pearl Barnett of Andrews; Son-Mike Barnett of Andrews; Daughter-Kim Ashby of Deer Park,  Texas; Step-Sons-Lance Locke of Merrimack, NH; Bradley A. Locke of Tomball, TX; Randal Locke of Oak Point, TX; and Joe Bob Locke of Lubbock, TX; Six Grandchildren, One Great-Grandchild; 18 Step-Grandchildren and 8-Step-Great Grandchildren.
