February 6, 2007

Services for Billy Joe "Bill" Weschke, 75 of Andrews, will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 10, 2007 in McNett Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be ministers John Snider of Greenwood and Moody Conner of Andrews. Burial will follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

Bill passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at his residence. He was born on August 18, 1931 in Littlefield,  Texas. He married Jo Margaret Tunnell on April 4, 1954 in Lubbock. They moved to Andrews in 1963. Bill was a butcher for many years before retirement. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Jo in 1997 and one son Craig in 2004.

Survivors inclulde a son Ralph Weschke of Andrews. three grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

JOEL ADKINS
February 5, 2007

Joel Adkins, 71, of Andrews passed away peacefully Monday February 5, 2007 at Home Hospice House in Odessa after an agonizing battle with cancer.

Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 PM Friday at First Baptist Church in Andrews. Dr. Jeff Donnell , Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Andrews Old Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

Joel was born May 18, 1935 in Ryan,  Oklahoma. Joel served it the US Army. He married Mary Beth Taylor, May 27, 1961 in Dallas. He lived in Andrews from 1957 until 1964 when he and Mary Beth moved to Carrollton  Texas. Joel was very involved in his community. He was active as a volunteer fireman, served on the City Zoning board; Jr. Deacon at First Baptist Church in Dallas was a deacon at First Baptist Church Carrollton. He was active in United Way, Toastmasters and the Masonic Lodge.

He worked for Halliburton for 30 years in International Sales, and had invented several tools used in the oil and gas industry and also held several Halliburton patents for oil field, down-hole equipment. He retired in 1994 and in 1996 He and Mary Beth moved back to Andrews from Phoenix, Arizona.

Joel is now in heaven, no doubt entertaining angels with his humor in a pain free body. Joel was a great father, grandfather, husband, Brother in law, Christian and friend.

Joel was a friend to all and a stranger to none.

He is survived by: His Wife - Mary Beth Adkins of Andrews,  Texas; Two Daughters - L'Jon Gryder and husband Guy of Orange,  Texas; Angie Rodebaugh and husband Mike of Orange County, California; Two Brothers - Bobby Adkins of Prescott, AZ; and Darrell Adkins of Andrews; and Three Grandchildren - Noah, Joel and Kate Rodebaugh of Orange County, California.

We trust that “all things work together for good to those who love God, who are called according to his promise.” Romans 8:28.

CHARLOTTE UNDERWOOD
February 5, 2007

Charlotte Ann Underwood, 56, of Midland lost a long and couragous battle with MS Monday February 5, 2007.

Graveside services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday February 7, 2007 at Andrews West Cemetery. Rev. Bryan  Johnson form Home Hospice of Andrews will officiate. Services are under the direction of McNett Funeral Home in Andrews.

Charlotte was born January 1, 1951 in Hobbs, NM and was the first baby of the new year in Hobbs.
She married Jo Ed Underwood November 17, 1987 in Midland, and moved to Andrews where she lived until moving to Midland 2 years ago. She was a homemaker and mother. She loved to play Bingo, work crossword puzzles, listen to music, and watch Humming Birds. She also loved flowers and butterflies.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jo in 1998.

She is survived by: Two Daughters - Kim Turner of Ceader Park, TX; and Karen Shouse of Vidor, TX; One Son - Brian Norris of  Oklahoma; Step-son -Ed Underwood and Step-daughter - Cindy Cordova both of Lindell,  Texas; Two Brothers - Dwayne Freeman of Merkel and Miron Sargent of Keller; One Sister - Pat Osborne of Midland,  Texas; and Four Grandchildren.

The family would like to express thier gratitude to the Staff of Terrace West Nursing Home and Home Hospice of Midland for the wounderful loving care of thier Mother, Grandmother and Sister.

Memorial gifts may be made to Home Hospice of Midland.

MARY McNETT
January 31, 2007

Funeral services for Mary McNett, 90, of Andrews will be 2:00 PM Monday, February 5, 2007 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews with Rev. Don Laird, Pastor of First Assembly of God Church in Caldwell,  Texas, Dr. Jeff Donnell, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Andrews, and Rev. Bryan Johnson, Home Hospice Chaplain in Andrews, officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Buffard Wagner, Norman Sherrill, Darrel Adkins, Lawrence Freeze, Andy Jenkins, and Gilbert Land.

She passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Permian Residential Care Center in Andrews.

She was born on June 21, 1916 in Woodward County,  Oklahoma to Charles Edward Kelly and Nellie Sophie Custer Kelly. She was raised in Granola,  Oklahoma and married Marvin Henry McNett on on September 18, 1934 in Newkirk,  Oklahoma. They had lived in Ponca City,  Oklahoma, Borger, Odessa, Hobbs, NM and moved to Andrews in 1946. She was a homemaker and had been very involved in her earlier years at the First Assembly of God Church in Andrews. She was currently a member of Maranatha Assembly of God Church in Andrews. She was preceded in death by her husband on November 1, 2004; her parents; 2 sisters: Alpha Hoggat and Nina Bailey; 3 brothers: Elmer, Elvin, and Alfred Kelly.

She is survived by her 3 sons: Eddie McNett and wife Betty of Andrews, Dean McNett and wife Darla of Andrews, Ken McNett and wife Debbie of Tulsa,  Oklahoma; 2 brothers: Edward Kelly and wife Iva of Winters, California and Arthur Kelly of Chelsea,  Oklahoma; 1 brother in law: Richard McNett and wife Imogene of Davis,  Oklahoma; 3 sister in laws: Edna Grace of Blackwell,  Oklahoma, Edna Kelly of Carrington, North Dakota, and Ethel Kelly of Blackwell,  Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren: Ora Lee Schiele and husband Wayne of Watertown, New York, Brian McNett and wife Veronica of Andrews, and Becky  Johnson and husband Rex of Andrews; 4 step grandchildren: Bobby Mishler and wife Kristen of College Station, Robert LaRue and wife Kristie of Andrews, Don Paul LaRue of Andrews, and Denise LaRue Wilson of California; 6 great grandchildren; and 8 step great grandchildren.

C.A. MITCHELL
January 29, 2007

Services for C.A. "Charlie" Mitchell, 86 of Kermit,  Texas, will be 2:00 PM Thursday, February 1, 2007 in the First Baptist Church in Kermit,  Texas. Officiating will be Rev. Russell Smith, North Carolina. Burial will follow in the Kermit Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home of Andrews.
Charlie passed away Monday, January 29, 2007 in Andrews. He was born on October 7, 1920 in Monahans,  Texas. He married Vivian Guthrie on July 8, 1939 at Potosie, Missouri. He was a rancher in Winkler and Ward counties for many years. Charlie was a member of the Kermit First Baptist Church.

Survivors include; daughter, Cheryl and husband Robert Roark, Andrews; brother, Bill Mitchell, Kermit; grandchildren, Ross and wife Sharon Roark, Monahans, Rachel and husband Bart Rankin, Dallas; and a great grandchild, Finnley Mitchell Rankin, Dallas.

Charlie was preceded in death by two brothers, A.P. and George Mistchell, a sister Ethel Fay Brumlow.

JERRY PIPER McDANIEL
January 28, 2007

Jerry Piper-McDaniel, 78, of Andrews passed away Sunday, January 28, 2007 at her home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday January 31, 2007 at First Baptist Church in Andrews. Dr. Jeff Donnell will officiate. Burial will be in Andrews West Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

Jerry was born August 11, 1928 in Eastland,  Texas. She married Fred Piper September 12, 1948 in Eastland. They moved to Andrews in 1953 From Kaufman County,  Texas.
Mr. Piper preceded her in death in 1989.
Jerry married George McDaniel November 21, 1992 in Andrews.
Jerry Graduated from the University of North  Texas in 1949 and taught School for over 47 years. She loved her school kids even after retiring she served as a Substitute teacher for close to 10 years.
She loved music and playing games with her family, working crossword puzzles and Gig Saw puzzles. She also enjoyed Needle Point and Quilting. She was a past member of the American Association of University Women.

She was Preceded in death by - her parents, Paul and Verna McFarland, three brothers - Roland Jone and William McFarland, and one sister - Peggy Morse.

She is Survived by: Her Husband - George McDaniel; Four Daughters - Paula Thurmond of College Station,  Texas; Pam Fisher of Andrews; Peggy Stavinoha of Andrews; and Pat Locke of Tomball,  Texas; One Brother - Robert McFarland of Alpine,  Texas, Four Step-Sons - Mike McDaniel of Lewisville,  Texas; Chuck McDaniel of Dallas; Dick McDaniel of Arlington; John McDaniel of Plano,  Texas; 24 Grandchildren and 2 Great - Grandchildren.
The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Andrews Education Foundation.

REV. TEODULO N. GARCIA
January 22, 2007

Services for Rev. Teodulo Garcia, 63 of Andrews, will be 2:00 PM Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the Andrews County Civic Center ( James Roberts Center). Officiating will be pastor Jose Angel Alvarez, Joel Mendoza and Robert Duran. Burial will follow in the Andrews North Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

Teodulo passed away at his residence Monday, January 22, 2007. He was born on November 18, 1943 in Durango, Mexico. He came to Andrews in 1968 from Mexico. He married Rosa Emiliano on July 24, 1971 in Andrews. He was the pastor of Templo La Nueva Jerusalem Church in Andrews.

Survivors include; Wife Rosa, Andrews; son, Isai Garcia, daughters, Adaly and husband Nick Garcia, Ruth and husband Danny Caballero and Mayra Garcia all of Andrews; parents, Martin and Simona Garcia, Mexico; brothers, Juan Garcia, Jose Eluterio Garcia, both of Mexico, Isidro Garcia, Valentine Garcia, both of Andrews and Efrain Garcia of Hidalgo,  Texas; sisters, Maria Isabell Garcia and Manuela Aguirre, both of Andrews and Maria Del Socorro, Weslaco,  Texas and four grandchildren, Dianna Garcia, Marc Garcia, Caleb Caballero and Judy Caballero.

He was prededed in death by a brother Francisco Garcia and a sister Maria Carlota Hernandez.

LEATRICE JOY COLLINS
January 18, 2007

Services for Leatrice Joy Collins, 79 of Andrews, will be 10:00 AM Graveside, Monday, January 22, 2007 in Andrews West Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Rick Doyle. Services are under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

Leatrice passed away Thursday, January 18, 2007 in Kermit Nursing Home. She was born on February 6, 1927 in Hope, Arkansas. She married Stewart Collins on February 6, 1972 in Snyder,  Texas. Leatrice was Charge Nurse for the Community Hospital in Andrews for 8 years before retirement. She was a member of the Means Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors inclulde, Husband Stewart Collins, Andrews; Step-Children Don Collins of  Oklahoma, Steve Collins, Andrews; daughter Sandra Guthrie, Andrews; brother William Nelson, Mena, Arkansas; sisters Melba Kelsey anad Esther Ruth Parker, both of Henderson,  Texas; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

SYDNIE W. 'SYD' HELTON
January 16, 2007

Sydnie W. 'Syd' Helton, 80, of Andrews passed away Tuesday january 16, 2007 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Monday January 22, 2007 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel in Andrews. Rev. Alvin Petty, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Andrews Old Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

Syd was born October 29, 1926 in Muldoon,  Texas He married Billie Ruth Dupree November 18, 1946 in San Angelo,  Texas. Syd served in the United States Marine Corps durring the Korean Conflict.
He and Billie moved to Andrews in 1954. He was a heavy equipment operator for many years and retired with Grimmitt Brothers Construction in Andrews.
Syd loved to talk to poeple and share stories with them.

He is survived by: His Wife - Billie Helton of Andrews; One Daughter - Sandra Kay Gibson and her husband Lynn of La Grange,  Texas; 2 Grandchildren Jason Gibson and Sydna Kobersky both of La Grange, Three Great-Grandchildren - William Gibson, Braden and Brianna Kobersky all of La Grange; One brother in law and sister in law - Curtis and Joyce Dupree of Arizona; And Special friends - Jim and Anita Meador of Odessa.

MELBA MOORE
January 13, 2007

Services for Melba Moore, 80 of Andrews, will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 16, 2007 in McNett Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Cody Hull of Norcross, Georgia. Burial will follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

Melba passed away at the Home Hospice House in Odessa, Saturday, January 13, 2007. She was born on May 31, 1926. She married James Benton Moore in Boswell,  Oklahoma. James preceded her in death on January 1, 1981.

Survivors include; three sons, Allen and wife Judy Moore, Mike and wife Mary Beth Moore and Dennis and wife Penny Moore all of Andrews; one brother, Gary Roberts, Bangs,  Texas; one sister, Lynell Daniels, Omaha,  Texas; six grandchildren, Lisa and husband Coy Martin, Misty and husband Cody Hull, Sherry and husband Mark Longshore, Michelle and husband Jamie Dolan, Michael and wife Jakque Moore and ten great grandchildren. One grandson preceded her in death, Chad Moore in 1989. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Lary Roberts, Melvin Roberts and Leonard Degman and one sister Wanda Hilliard.

FRANK 'COTTON' HUGHEY
January 13, 2007

Services for Franklin D. "Cotton" Hughey, 77 of Andrews, will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at McKinney Acres Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. James Beard and Rev. Jim Landry. Burial will follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

Cotton passed away in Odessa, Saturday, January 13, 2007. He was born on November 22, 1929 at Roby,  Texas. He married Lona Forgus at Portales, New Mexico. He moved to Andrews in 1965 from Georgetown,  Texas. He was a truck driver for years and retired as a bailiff for Andrews County. He was a member of McKinney Acres Baptist Church.

Survivors include; wife, Lona, Andrews; sons, Jim Murrell, Houston, John Murrell, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Frank Hughey, Brownwwood,  Texas; daughter, Mary Canning, Boston, Massachusetts; sister Allene Whitaker, Georgetown,  Texas; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A son Pete C. Hughey preceded Cotton in death in 1980.
