JIM BEAL
March 27, 2008

Jim Beal
Our larger than life, husband, father and fun loving tall tale teller was relieved of his cancer at 8:40am Thursday, March 27, 2008.

Jim was born to Cleo and Mary Beal on November 23, 1945 in Carmi, IL. He had two older brothers Jack and Charlie. From all accounts Jim’s childhood was far from dull. The brothers made there own kind of ‘ol fashioned fun growing up and the stories can best be described as “side splitting”.

Jim enlisted in the US Navy in 1963 and proudly served his country until 1966. Shortly after coming home from the Navy, he married the love of his life, Carol Sue Hamilton in May 1967. Carol and Jim greeted their first-born child, Jeff in the fall of 1968. As if a new baby wasn’t a big enough change, Jim and Carol packed all their belongings in 1970 and moved to West  Texas due to a job.

So their adventure ensued. Learning to eat Mexican food, acclimating to an entirely new terrain, and the birth of one of Jim’s greatest passions, golf. The Beal clan began to settle into their new surroundings, with the help of big brother Charlie and his wife Janice.  Texas became more and more home each year.

In 1973 Jim and Carol were blessed with a daughter, Jami. This definitely started a new chapter in Jim’s life. Having always been around boys, an even softer side of Jim’s fatherly role began to emerge.

Jim and Carol were extremely involved with their children and their extracurricular activities. Jim umpired little league baseball, rode dirt bikes, and rarely missed a golf tournament. After retiring in 200 from nearly 30 years of service with Amoco Jim started his dream job. He was always quick to tell someone he was headed to “the office”…(AKA Andrews Country Club golf course.) Jim leaves behind many friends and golf buddies that can be called no less than family from out at the club.

Jim was a doting grandfather and never passed up the opportunity to brag on his grandchildren. Many sleepovers, holidays and family get-togethers Papa would become another one of the kids. Grady Connor and Maizy will assuredly grow with dignity, respect and a little “fire” in their blossoming personalities due to a seed planted by their hero, Papa.

Jim was preceded in death by his mother, father and infant sister Elizabeth.

Jim is survived by, wife Carol Beal of Andrews, Jeff, Holly, Grady and Maizy Beal of Midland, and Jami, Ari and Connor Rafilson of Carrolton,  Texas. Additional survivors include: Jack and Pat Beal of Noble, IL, Charlie and Janice Beal of Andrews.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Monday at Means Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Rick Doyle will officiate. Burial will be in Andrews Old Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers please, send memorials to The American Cancer Society or the Andrews County Veterans Memorial.
