SAMMIE JO BURK MANES
November 7, 2009

Sammie Jo Burk Manes, 84, long time Andrews resident passed away Saturday November 7, 2009 at Myrtlewood Estates in San Angelo,  Texas.

Graveside services will be 2:00 Tuesday at Andrews Old Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home. Rob Scofield of Odessa will officiate.

Sammie Jo Burk was born July 2, 1925 in Brownfield,  Texas. She married William (Bill) Manes June 20, 1944 in Rapid City, South Dakota. They moved to Andrews in 1946 from Salina, Kansas.

Mrs. Manes worked for Andrews County and retired from the County Auditor's office after 20 years of service.

She loved to crochet and cook. She also enjoyed taking fishing trips with her husband to Pelican Arrows in Northern Sacatuwan Canada. She loved to collect dolls and Hummel figurines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Zuma and Elsie Mae Burk by her husband; Bill Manes in January 2008, and her brother; Eugene Burk.

She is survived by two daughters; Glenna and husband Dr. Carrol Wheat of Surprise, Arizona, Paula Smith and her husband Stephen of Odessa, three grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Smith  Johnson C. Bradford Wheat and William Wheat, two great grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Wheat and Margaux Elise Wheat.

LEE HULEN
November 1, 2009

Herman (Lee) Hulen, 81, of Andrews passed away Sunday November 1, 2009 at Stanton Care Center in Stanton,  Texas.

A Family visitation will be 6:00 PM - 8:00PM Thursday at McNett Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday November 6, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Andrews. Dr. Jeff Donnell will officiate. Burial will be in Andrews North Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

Lee was born January 1, 1928 in Wheeler County,  Texas to the late Jippie Robert and Amber Oleta Hulen.
He servded in the US Navy during World War II.
He married Charlene Green June, 1, 1947 in Lubbock,  Texas. They moved to Andrews in 1955. That year they opened Hulen Jewlery in Andrews and it is still in business today.
Lee was a member of the Jaycees, the Masonic Lodge, he was a 32 degree Mason. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Andrews Senior Center, and the chairman for the Salvation Army. He was a member of First Baptist Church and he was a member of the Building Commitee, and he helped found the Christmas tree project.

He is survived by his wife; Charlene Hulan of Andrews, son; Bobby Lee Hulen of Andrews, daughter; Saundra Hugg of Abilene,  Texas, two sisters; Peggy Lockerd of Hendersonville, Tennessee and Juanita Forgea also of Tennessee, four grand children and 2 great-grandchildren.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Andrews Senior Center or Home Hospice.

LILLIAN "BOBBIE" SULLIVAN
October 30, 2009

Services for Lillian "Bobbie" Sullivan 87 of Andrews will be 2:00 PM Monday, November 2, 2009 Graveside in the Andrews West Cemetery with Rev. Bill Melton officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews West Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

Bobbie passed away in Odessa,  Texas Friday October 30, 2009.
She was born on August 31, 1922 in Mansfield, Arkansa. She married Simpson Sullivan on August 16, 1939 in Wewoka,  Oklahoma. Simpson preceded her in death on February 23, 1982. Bobbie was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include, sons; Danny Sullivan, Midland, Tommy Sullivan, Andrews, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

JOYCE LEWIS
October 23, 2009

Services for Joyce Lewis 92 of Andrews, will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 27, 2009 in McNett Funeral Home Chapel with Brother James Beard and Rev. Mack Mills officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews Old Cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

Joyce passed away in Odessa Friday, October 23, 2009. She was born on June 6, 1917 in Braggs,  Oklahoma. She married Joel Riley Lewis on June 1, 1935 in Carlsbad, NM. Mr. Lewis passed away in 2004. Joyce was a retired sales clerk for a fabric store. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include, son; James R. "Jimmy" Lewis, Ava, MO, 1/2 sister; Dorothy Gonzalez, Chula Vista, CA, four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

KARIN RUNKEL
October 20, 2009

Karin "Kari" Runkel, 54, of Andrews passed away Tuesday October 20, 2009 at Permian Regional Medical Center.

Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Friday October 23, 2009 at McNett Funeral Home Chapel. Rick Gunter, family friend, will officiate. Services are under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.

Karin was born January 22, 1955 in Cushing,  Oklahoma. She married Jay Runkel February 16, 1974 in Midland  Texas.
They moved to Andrews in 1979 from Farmington, NM. She was a homemaker and loved to work in the garden and in her back yard. She also enjoyed working with stained glass and she was well know for her gift giving.

She is survived by her husband Jay of Andrews; her father, Edward Humphrey of Edmond  Oklahoma; and her sister, Kathy Elich of Tomball,  Texas

SANDRA KAY GUTHRIE
October 20, 2009

Services for Sandra Kay Guthrie 58 of Andrews, will be Graveside at Mufflin Cemetery near Henderson, Tennessee. (Date and time to be set later)

Sandra passed away in Andrews at her home on Tuesday, October 20, 2009. She was born on July 6, 1951 in Big Spring,  Texas. She married Homer Jay Guthrie on July 7, 1978 in Andrews. Homer preceded her in death in 2005.

Sursvivors include, daughter; Amanda Walters, Dyersburg, TN, mother; Nina Sells Collins, Andrews, father; Stewart Collins, Andrews, brothers; Steve Collins, Andrews, Don Collins,  Oklahoma City, OK.

ALBERT G. DOCKALL
October 18, 2009

Albert George Dockall, 92, passed away October 18, 2009 at Permian Regional Medical Center in Andrews.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday October 20, 2009 at Andrews West Cemetery . Rev. Rick Doyle and Dr. Brian Gordon will officiate. Arrangments are with McNett Funeral Home.

Albert was born April 7, 1917 in Thorndale,  Texas to George and Lizzie Dockall.
He served in the US Army from February 1942 until October 1945. He was in the United States for for only 7 months of that time. His specialty was Rifleman, serving in the North of France, and Central Europe. He recived EAME Campaign metal with 2 bronze stars.
He married Johnnie West March 10, 1946 in Rockdale,  Texas.
They moved from Frankle City to Goldsmith in 1968. He worked for El Paso Natural Gas from the 1950's until 1982. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and sports fan.

He is survived by his wife, Johnnie Dockall; Son - John E. Dockall of Austin, daughter - Barbara Hester of Midland, Sister - Edna Miller of Rockdale, and Mamie Blevins of Houston, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-Grandchildren.

Ruth Morriss
Ruth Morriss, age 94 of Mountain Home, died Sunday, January 8, 2006 in a local Kerrville nursing home.
Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10th at Grimes Funeral Chapels.
Graveside services were conducted at The Sunset Cemetery, Mountain Home,  Texas, on Wednesday, January 11th at 2 p.m.
Born January 22, 1911, Ruth was educated in the Kerrville schools where she graduated from Tivy High School. With her two sisters, she attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene and graduated with honors with a B.A. from The University of  Texas, Austin.
Ruth became an avid reader and in later life she would tell with great delight of having read Les Miserables in French while in college. Likewise, she became an accomplished horsewoman, learning to “ride the range” as a child with her father on the family ranch on the Divide in Real and Edwards counties. Enthusiasm never waned for Ruth, an adept bridge player, be it party or duplicate.
In 1934 Ruth began a teaching career at the new, one room Dietert School on the Divide with ten students. The next eight years she spent teaching in Wichita Falls.
Following the death of her father, Airs Gilmer Morriss in 1945, Ruth and her sister, Patti Beall, assumed the management of A.G. Morriss & Co., ranching with their mother in Real and Edwards Counties. They were members of The  Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association where
Ruth served as the first Secretary/Treasurer of the Auxiliary and The  Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. Travel with Murray Cox and the  Texas Farm Bureau took Ruth and Patti to many points of interest in the United States. Wonderful trips abroad with her three sisters were unique and memorable experiences.
Ruth was a member and Sunday School teacher at Trinity Baptist Church, Kerrville. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority; a Charter Member of Major James Kerr Chapter, DAR; The Alamo Mission Chapter, DRT; Ladies of the Thistle; The Colonial Dames and a Grand-daughter of UDC.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Airs Gilmer and Lily May Anderson Morriss; brothers: Thomas A. Morriss and Gilmer A. Morriss; sisters: Margaret A. Barrett and Lily May Overton. She is survived by her sister, Patti Beall Morriss of Mountain Home and Kerrville. Numerous nieces and nephews will cherish their fond memories of their dear Aunt Ruth.
The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to Parsons House for their devoted care and to the Sid Peterson Hospice for their kind, attentive care.

Corynne Conring
Corynne Conring, age 89 of Rocksprings, died Sunday, April 30, 2006 in Kerrville. She was born October 19, 1916 to William Sims Martin and Tiney Tecora Vaughn Martin. On May 19, 1943, she married Robert Conring in Corpus Christi.
Corynne was a homemaker, artist and an art teacher. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rocksprings.
Survivors include husband, Bob Conring of Rocksprings; daughters, Annette Dowell and husband, Lanny Dowell of Goldthwaite and Barbara Glynn Meyette and husband, Chuck Meyette of Wimberley; sons, Lane Conring and wife, Elaine Conring of Kerrville, Robin Conring and wife, Idalia Conring of Rockmart, GA and Ronnie Conring and wife, Nancy Conring of Akron, OH; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, May 3, 2006, 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Rocksprings officiated by Joe Baker and Lane Conring. Interment followed in the Rocksprings Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons Chris Conring, Jerry Conring, Leo Conring, Scott Dowell, Mark Dowell and Shawn Meyette and great grandchildren, Chris Coignet and Kyle Coignet.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rocksprings EMS.

Rebecca Ann McDonald  White, 54, of Snyder,  Texas died April 24, 2006 in the Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital in Kerrville,  Texas. She was born January 17, 1952 to Mildred Sweaza and Roger McDonald.
Becky is survived by her mother Mildred Sweaza and stepfather Rex Sweaza of Rocksprings; two sons, Stacy  White and Terry Don  White; one daughter, Brandy Turner; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Daniel Gallaway of McLean,  Texas and David W. Beaver of Rocksprings; two sisters, Linda Myres of Snyder and Lorene Manley of Fort Worth,  Texas.
Becky is preceded in death by her father Roger McDonald and one brother Roger Dougles McDonald who died in 1971.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, April 26 with Bro. Albert Green of First Baptist Church of Rocksprings officating.

Seth Rogers Davenport
Seth Rogers Davenport, age 89, died May 26th, 2006 at his home in Uvalde,  Texas. Mr. Davenport was born in Rocksprings,  Texas on September 21, 1916. He married Phyllis Beatrice Nichols in Sanderson in 1940.
In addition to his wife, Beatrice, of Uvalde, survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Col. and Mrs. Edgar Habeck of Georgetown,  Texas; grandchildren Seth Cody Davenport and wife Yvonne of Uvalde,  Texas, Michael Brett Witte and wife, Lindsey, of Houston,  Texas and Thea Elizabeth Manuel and husband Shawn of Keller,  Texas and great-grandchildren Seth and Terrell Davenport, Dryden and Gage Frank and Carley Manuel. Other survivors include his sister-in-law Bernice Peace of Uvalde, nephew W.J. Vaughan and wife, Kitty, of Brackettville, nieces Bobbie Jean Worth and husband, John, and Pam Richmond and husband, Rick, all of Austin and great-nephews Jeff Vaughan of Uvalde and Jed Vaughan of Weatherford.
Funeral services were held May 27th, 2006 at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Uvalde, with Rev. Rick Carroll officiating.
Burial followed at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ed Habeck, Shawn Manuel, W. J. Vaughan, Cody Davenport, Brett Witte and Cody Smith.
Funeral arrangements were by Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary of Uvalde.

Thomas R. Reavis
Thomas R. Reavis died May 22, 2006. He was born December 4, 1947 to Henry and Lola Reavis.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne, of 31 years; daughters: Renita, Rhonda and Roslyn and an extensive extended family.
Thomas is preceded in death by his daughter, Rachel and his parents Henry and Lola Reavis.
Thomas was born the youngest of nine children, and grew up on the family ranch in Edwards County. He received his BBA from SWTSU which began his career in businesses including insurance and real estate. He aided people internationally as a naturopathic and homeopathic doctor. Memberships include the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and Life Member in San Antonio Livestock and Rodeo Exposition.
Memorial service were held May 28th at Vance Baptist Church in Vance,  Texas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made at any Firstmark Credit Union, Thomas Reavis Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Elizabeth Dean Odom Pratt
Elizabeth Dean Odom Pratt, a native of Weiss, LA, died Wednesday August 2, 2006, at the residence of her sister and brother-in-law, Connie B. and William C. Shrewsberry at Weiss, LA. Visitation at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs was on Friday, Aug. 4, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and in the chapel on Saturday from 11 a.m. until religious services were conducted by the Rev. Larry Miller. Burial followed in the Roselawn Memorial Park, Baton Rouge. Pallbearers were Mr. Charles Kemp, Regi Mullins, James Easterly, James Odom, Dean Perry and Bill Shrewsberry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Frank H. Pratt; her parents, Otto Odom and Connie Easterly Odom; brother, O. Harry Odom and sister, Helen Odom Perry.
She graduated from the Live Oak High School, the University of  Louisiana at Lafayette (where she was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority) and the  Louisiana State University.
She is survived by sister, Connie B. Shrewsberry; brother-in-law, W. C. Shrewsberry; step-daughters, Barbara Pratt Schoolcraft of Junction, TX and Sally Pratt (Mrs. Paul) Forte of Glen Burnie, MD; niece, Connie Faye Odom Dunbar of Boerne, TX; nephews, James Harry Odom of Fort Worth, TX, Dean Odom Perry of Kissimmee, FL and William (Bill) C. Shrewsberry, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA and several great nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Live Oak United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 709 Watson, LA 70786 or First United Methodist Church, 319 Mattie Street, Denham Springs, LA.
