Robert Glen Conring

Robert Glen Conring, age 87, of Rocksprings, died Thursday, January 15, 2009 in a Kerrville,  Texas care center. He was born November 12, 1921 in San Antonio,  Texas to Robert and Georgie (Tom) Conring. On May 19, 1943, he married Corynne Martin in Corpus Christi. She preceded him in death on April 30, 2006.

Robert was a rancher who enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Rocksprings and First Baptist Church of Rocksprings.

Survivors include daughters, Annette Dowell and husband, Lanny of Goldthwaite,  Texas and Barbara Glynn Meyette and husband, Chuck of Wimberley,  Texas; sons, Lane Conring and wife, Elaine of Kerrville, Robin Conring and wife, Idalia of Rockmart, GA and Ronnie Conring and wife, Nancy of Akron, OH; 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Raenelle Bougete of Colorado Springs, CO and Barbara Menager of San Antonio and a brother, Tommy Conring of Littlefield,  Texas.

Services were held Monday, January 19, 2009, 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Rocksprings officiated by Joe Baker and Lane Conring. Burial followed in the Rocksprings Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons Chris Conring, Jerry Conring, Leo Conring, Scott Dowell, Mark Dowell and Shawn Meyette and great-grandchildren, Chris Coignet and Kyle Coignet.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe Baker and D.L. Cloudt.

Jesus Eusebio (Jessie) Flores

Jesus Eusebio (Jessie) Flores, 47, of Garden City,  Texas went to meet his maker on January 13, 2009. Jessie was a great son, husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. Jessie had a personality bigger than  Texas and never met a stranger. He would always help a person in need and had a special place in his heart for children and youth.
Jessie created a drip irrigation model used to increase awareness of water conservation with elementary age students. Additionally, he volunteered countless hours at the Howard Cottage Pre-school and was instrumental in building the award winning “Ginger Bread House” float in a past Christmas Parade. Jessie also coached YMCA basketball and Little League
Baseball teams for over 6 years and was a strong supporter of Garden City Bearkats athletics and youth programs. Jessie grew up in the Hill Country of  Texas in the agricultural community of Rocksprings. He worked for Walter (Buddy) Thurman since the tender age of 13 until he graduated from high school and gained a love for the great outdoors and working livestock. He shared his love of working and showing livestock with his children as they participated in 4-H projects for over 14 years.

Jessie was born on October 14, 1961 in Sonora,  Texas to Jesus (Chuy) and Odelmira (Odel) Flores. He graduated from Rocksprings High School in 1981. Upon graduating from high school he enrolled and graduated from TSTI in Sweetwater. While at TSTI he met the love of his life Ernestina (Tina) Hernandez of Sterling City. He and Tina married on April 16, 1983 and in 2008 celebrated 25 years of marriage.

Jessie’s greatest legacies are his two children, Anna Flores, 23 of Midland and Jason Flores, 19 of Garden City. Jessie was Anna and Jason’s greatest supporter. If Anna and Jason were participating in a game, cross country/track meet or any spectator event you could bet that Jessie was present providing guidance and support.
Jessie was employed by ECO-Drip where he served as the District Warehouse Manager. The ECO-Drip employees were more than co-workers they were his extended family.

Jessie is survived by his parents, Jesus (Chuy) Flores and Odelmira Baltazar Flores of San Angelo; his wife, Tina Flores of Garden City; a daughter, Anna Flores of Midland; a son, Jason Flores of Garden City; a sister, Dee Dee VonAhn and husband, Kurt of Mexia; a sister, Elvira Gallegos and husband, Manuel of San Angelo; a brother, Javier Flores and wife, Christy of Big Spring; a niece, Jessica Gonzales and husband, Eric of Big Spring; a niece, Kristie McClelland and husband, Joey of San Antonio; a nephew, Taybor Flores of Big Spring and a special aunt, Odelia Gartman of San Angelo.

A funeral mass was held onFriday, January 16, 2009 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Rev. Bernard Gettigan, officiating. Burial followed at Garden City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Allison Cancer Center, 2200 W. Illinois, Midland,  Texas 79701 or Home Hospice of Big Spring, 111 E. 7th St., Suite A, Big Spring,  Texas 79720 or the Jessie Flores 4-H Memorial Scholarship at the Glasscock County Bank, Garden City,  Texas 79739.

Arrangements were under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.

Guadalupe Baldillez Fernandez

Guadalupe Baldillez Fernandez, 53, of Haskell,  Texas died September 25, 2009 at Edgewater Care Center in Kerrville,  Texas after a long battle with cancer. She was born December 11, 1955 in Rocksprings,  Texas to Cruz Baldillez, Sr. and Florentina Reyes Baldillez.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Florentina and Cruz Baldillez, Sr. and sister, Rosalinda Wehmeyer.

She is survived by her husband Aldo Fernandez of Haskell,  Texas and children, Samantha Baldillez of Kerrville,  Texas, Naomi Baldillez of Uvalde,  Texas, Aldo Fernandez Jr. of Haskell,  Texas, and Rosa De La Cruz and husband Jeremy of Haskell,  Texas. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Cruz Baldillez Jr. and wife Joan of Carlsbad,  Texas; Margarita Faye and husband Junior of Kerrville,  Texas; Gloria Nevarez and husband Juan of San Angelo,  Texas; Silvia Estrada of Rocksprings,  Texas; Hortensia Carona and husband Jose of Houston,  Texas; Martha Rios of Uvalde,  Texas; Martin Baldillez and wife Linda of Rocksprings,  Texas and grandson Isaac Baldillez, Jr. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were held Monday, September 28, 2009 in the Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Rocksprings,  Texas. Burial followed in the Rocksprings Cemetery. The officiant was Father Marcolino Rodriguez.

Pallbearers were Jeremy De La Cruz, Jose Peña, Tony Martinez, Jesse Rios III, Isaac Baldillez and Jesse Martinez Jr.

Services were under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home of Rocksprings,  Texas. Online condolences may be left at www.nelsonfuneralhomes.net.

Tulisha Shahan Wardlaw

Tulisha Shahan Wardlaw, 67, was victorious on Saturday, September 26, 2009 when she went to dance with her awesome Jesus. She was born in Del Rio,  Texas December 3, 1941 to Happy and Virginia Shahan. Her childhood years were spent in Brackettville,  Texas. After a couple of years at Baylor University, then  Texas Tech University, Tulisha married her one and only love Hadley Wardlaw of Del Rio,  Texas on December 27, 1963.

Tulisha was truly loved by her family and was known to plant many loving, giving seeds. She planted those many godly seeds with just about anyone who would listen!
She was a determined, competitive person when it came to basketball, tennis, ping pong, 4-H competitions, selling jewelry, Bridge, Wii….. and any other thing that she could hit
head on.

In the latter years, Tulisha handled the marketing for the family owned business, Alamo Village movie location in Brackettville,  Texas. Organizing trail rides and acting as a liason with movie productions kept Tulisha busy. She thrived on promoting and organizing events – a true talent.

A go-getter, lover of life, child of God, wonderful wife, mother and friend, Tulisha’s drive was admired. After running her earthly race with endurance and perseverance, Tulisha’s strength is now restored.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Lashawn and husband Rick of Fort Davis,  Texas, and Leisha and husband, Tony Ashley of Brackettville,  Texas; son, Dutch Wardlaw and wife Casey of Del Rio,  Texas. Grandkids are Miss Hadley and Maverick McIvor, Webb and Walt Ashley, and Cuatro and Cinco Wardlaw. Sister, Jaime Rains and husband Walt Rains, brother Tully Shahan and wife Darlene. Brother-in-law Benton Wardlaw. Plus, numerous nieces and nephews.

Gentlemen left with the honor of serving as Pallbearers were Kelly Kothman, Dave Ince, Rex Simmonds, Scott Simpton, Edwin Hyslop, Carter Winters, Lowell Kercheville and Kevin Kaplan.

Honorary Pallbearers were James Rains, Will Shahan, Jared Ty Shahan, Rob Mason, Steele Montague, Richard Curilla, Max Evetts, Jimmy Carter, Donnie Weiss, Kevin Kercheville, Cleigh Kercheville, Bobby Bruce, Mark Bruce, Frank T. Higgins, Robert Palacios, Urbano Ceniciros, Dean Martin, Robert Ware and Paul Ware.

Memorial service was held Tuesday, September 29, 2009, 9:30a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Del Rio. Burial followed at the Wardlaw Ranch.

Jose Saldana Mora, Sr.

Jose Saldana Mora, Sr., 86, of Andrews,  Texas died February 5, 2006 at the Midland Hospital Hospice Unit in Midland,  Texas.

He was born June 29, 1919 in Rocksprings,  Texas to Donnette and Francisca Saldana Mora.

He was preceded in death by parents Donnette and Francisca Mora and sister Rosa Ramirez.

Survivors are children: Oliva Solis and husband Jesse of Big Lake,  Texas; Donnie Mora and wife Ester of Boerne,  Texas; Julia Garcia and husband Pete of Lubbock,  Texas; Corina Sanchez and husband Richard of Ft. Worth,  Texas; Maribel Mora of Andrews; Josephina Tavarez and husband Beto of Odessa,  Texas; Belinda Luna and husband Ruben; Melinda Lopez, Linda Estrada and husband Kid all of Andrews; Jose Mora, Jr. and wife Selina of Midland, and Rosemary Mora of Odessa,  Texas; 29 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one sister Jacinta Gonzales.

Services were held Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at the Nelson Funeral Home Chapel in Rocksprings with burial in the Rocksprings Cemetery officiated by Jesse Solis.

Doris Porteous Sampson

Doris Porteous Sampson, 85, of Rocksprings,  Texas died February 5, 2006 at her home in Rocksprings. She was born July 7, 1920 in Pittsburgh,  Pennsylvania to Mr. and Mrs. Eric Porteous.

She is survived by one son: James Lees and wife Connie of Rocksprings; 2 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Grossman of Pittsburgh.
At Mrs. Sampson’s request there will be no funeral services. Cremation arrangements by Nelson Funeral Home of Rocksprings.

Following Doris’ wishes, any memorials should be given to the Devil’s Sinkhole Society, P.O. Box 97, Rocksprings, TX 78880.

Jack L. Wright

Jack L. Wright, 76, of Barksdale,  Texas died February 5, 2006 at his home in Barksdale. He was born August 4, 1929 in Gosport, Indiana to Winfield and Shellia Wright.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Wright, who he married October 9,1971; two sisters: Ruth Sheese and Velda Stewart; three brothers: Winfield Wright, Jr., Donald Wright and Wayne Wright.

Survivors are daughters: Lori Wright of San Antonio and Marcie Wright of Barksdale; four grandchildren: Jack “Nick” DeLeon, Brittany DeLeon, Seth Wright and Victoria DeLeon; two brothers: Sam Wright and wife Mildred of Spencer, Indiana and Fred Wright and wife Beverly of Carp, Indiana; special friends: Marilyn Mann, Teresa Salina, Kelly Marshall and Tammy Lee; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers were Seth Wright, Nick DeLeon, Randy Ward, James Ward, Steve Ward, Dennis Ward and Lonnie Ward.
Services were held Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at the Frist Baptist Church of Camp Wood with interment in the Barksdale Cemetery.
Officiating the services were Carroll Vernor and Gary Jones.
