Born in  Oklahoma City, OK on May 9, 1935
Departed on May 25, 2004, and resided in Kerrville, TX

Service Date: June 6, 2004
Service Location: First United Methodist Church

Nancy Duncan Fox, born May 9, 1934, in  Oklahoma City,  Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2004. Soon after graduating from the University of  Oklahoma in 1956 with a degree in government, she went to work in  Washington, D.C. as a Congressional Secretary for U.S. Congressman, Carl Albert from  Oklahoma who was Speaker of the House of Representatives. This was an ideal job for her since, from an early age, she had a great interest in government and politics. While in  Washington, she married Otis O. Fox, her husband of 45 years.
Nancy’s primary focus in her adult life was her children-their education and welfare. This was a challenging task since her husband, Otis, a geologist employed by Exxon, spent 12 years working overseas in England, Singapore and Libya (where conditions were not always ideal). The family went along with him on all of these assignments. In Nancy’s years overseas, she had the opportunity to travel extensively and developed a real love for travel. She frequently managed to take her children with her on trips back to the U.S. so that they did not completely lose contact with grandparents and other relatives.

After retirement in 1992, Nancy and her husband moved from Houston to Kerrville in 1994, where they are members of the First United Methodist Church. Nancy was active in the League of Women Voters (in Madison, New Jersey, where she lived for five years), the Kerrville Trailblazers and various bridge groups. She loved bridge, reading, writing short stories, working crossword puzzles, playing tennis and going for long walks in the countryside in Kerr and adjoining counties. She also enjoyed yoga and other forms of exercise.

Nancy is survived by her husband, two sons, a daughter and one grandson. Her sons are Otto Fox and Duncan Fox, both of Austin. Her daughter is Melanie Fox-Vanicek of Dripping Springs, and her grandson is Michael Fox of Austin. Other survivors are a brother, John G. Duncan of Cathedral City, California; a daughter-in-law, Donna Fox of Austin; a son-in-law, Marvin Vanicek of Dripping Springs; and several aunts, uncles and cousins, most of whom are living in  Texas and Southern  Oklahoma.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, J. Gard Duncan and Murl (Shellenberger) Duncan.

There will be a visitation at Grimes Funeral Chapels on Monday, May 31, 2004 from 5-7 p.m.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, June 6, 2004, 2:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Kerrville, officiated by Dr. Warren Hornung.

Burial will be held privately at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Kerrville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of South Central  Texas, the American Cancer Society or to the charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to GRIMES FUNERAL CHAPELS of Kerrville.
