Mr. R.J. "Red" McDuff, age 84 of Kerrville, passed away Friday, May 28, 2004 at a local nursing home. He was born January 18, 1920 in  Jones County, TX.
Mr. McDuff was the Director of Services for the Southern Region of Mobil Oil for 38 years. He retired from Mobil Oil in 1982. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington, TX and the Magnolia Mobil Geophysical Group.

He is survived by son, Mike McDuff of Katy, TX; nephews, Bill Swofford of Corpus Christi, TX and Bob Free of Haskell, TX; nieces, Mary Louise of Spring, TX and Sandra of Grand Junction, CO.

Services will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2004, 2:00 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels, officiated by Mr. Glenn McGinnis. Interment will be Wednesday, June 2, 2004, 3:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ft. Worth, TX.

Susan McEvoy

Ghern  Johnson McGraw

Mr. Ghern  Johnson McGraw, 83, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2004. He was born in Hollis,  Oklahoma, on 21 December 1920. His parents, Benjamin F. And Amye A.  Johnson McGraw, later moved to Borger,  Texas. B. F. McGraw was the postmaster at Phillips,  Texas, until retirement.
Mr. McGraw married Juanita A. Harvey in Borger on 29 April 1939. Their two children were James Michael McGraw, who passed away in 1987 in Houston,  Texas and Carol J. Renner (Richard) of Laredo,  Texas. His two grandsons are Richard Mark Renner, attending the University of  Texas-Austin, and Eric Robert Renner, a freshman attending Alexander High School in Laredo. He is also survived by a brother and a sister-in-law, Jim and Frances Ogden McGraw of Whitney,  Texas; a niece and nephew, Kathy McGraw Messick and Kevin McGraw of Plano,  Texas.

Mr. McGraw was a long time employee of Chevron Oil Company. In 1980 he retired in Hobbs, New Mexico. In 1993, he made Kerrville his home. Mr. McGraw was active in KERRMUG, The Scots of the Hills, and he belonged to the Kerr Co. Genealogy Society. His hobbies were genealogy, travel and reading history.

Funeral services 10:00 A. M., Wednesday, February 4, 2004, Grimes Funeral Chapels, with Ron Briley, Officiating. Interment , 10:00 A. M., Thursday, February 5, 2004, Dryden Cemetery, Hollis,  Oklahoma.

Memorial remembrances may be made to the Kerrville Humane Society,

S. Ward McCollough
Born in Chicora, PA on August 19, 1913
Departed on August 13, 2004, and resided in Medina, TX

Mr. S. Ward McCollough, Age 90, of Medina,  Texas, died on Friday, August 13, 2004, in a Kerrville hospital. Mr. McCollough, a resident of Medina for 28 years and a prior resident of Dickinson,  Texas, was born on August 19,1913, in Chicora,  Pennsylvania, to Olive Merle McCollough and Elizabeth Hannah Garing McCollough.
He served as a Corporal during World War II, in the United States Army. He married Elva Powell on September 21, 1939, in Butler,  Pennsylvania. She preceded him in death on February 24, 2001.

Ward was co-founder of Mineral Oil Refining Company and had been employed for ten years with  Pennsylvania Refining Co. He was a member of the Medina United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club, Medina Masonic Lodge #1319, Past District Deputy Grand Master, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, York Rite Mason, Red Cross Constantine,  Texas Manufacturing Association, the N.R.A. and was president of the Dickinson School Board for 12 years.

Survivors, Daughter, Janice K. McCollough of Los Angeles, California; Sons, Lee W. McCollough and wife Donna of Dickinson and Dr. Randy F. McCollough and wife Paula of San Angelo; Sister, Beryle E. Edwards of Chicora,  Pennsylvania; Brothers, Alfred H. McCollough of Punta Gorda, Florida, Rev. Edward C. McCollough of Warren,  Pennsylvania, and Stanley A. McCollough of Chicora,  Pennsylvania; Grandchildren, Marla Leissner and husband Taft, Brian W. McCollough, Nicole E. McCollough, Jennifer E. McCollough, Whitney Parrish, Scott A. McCollough, Anne M. McCollough and Samuel Ward McCollough.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P. M., Sunday, August 15, 2004, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Bandera.

Funeral services, 10:00 A. M., Monday, August 16, 2004, Medina United Methodist Church, with Rev. Harold Zirkel and Rev. Bill Steyemueller, officiating. Interment to follow at Oak Rest Cemetery, Medina,  Texas, with grandchildren as pallbearers.

Memorial remembrances may be made to the Medina United Methodist Church or the Medina Children’s Home.

Melissa A. Medrano
Born in Kerrville, TX on January 9, 1976
Departed on October 15, 2003, and resided in Kerrville, TX.

Ms. Melissa Medrano, age 27, a life time resident of Kerrville, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at a local nursing home. She was born January 9, 1976 in Kerrville.

Melissa lived a full life. She graduated from Tivy High School in 1998 and was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church.

She is survived by her parents, Pauline C. and Alberto J. Morquecho of Kerrville; brothers, Mario D. Morquecho, Rene D. Morquecho, and Carlos D. Morquecho, all of Kerrville and her biological mother, Angelita Aguilera of Kerrville.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Sunday, October 19, 2003, 7:00 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, October 20, 2003, 10:00 a.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church with Father Greg Nevlud as celebrant. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mario D. Morquecho, Carlos D. Morquecho, Brian Tamburello and Johnny Lopez.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peterson Hospice, 1121 Broadway, Kerrville, TX 78028.

Lydia Janie Burkhalter Meek
Born in Dechard, TN on October 18, 1913

Lydia Janie Burkhalter Meek, 90, of Kerrville,  Texas, formerly of Harlingen and Los Fresnos,  Texas, went to be with her Lord on Monday, May 17, 2004.
On Thursday, May 20, 2004, there will be a Family & Friend’s visitation in Harlingen at the Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Graveside funeral services will be Friday, May 21, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Mont Meta Burial Park, San Benito, TX, with Rev. George Morrison and Rev. Bill Waddell presiding. Services under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, Harlingen,  Texas.

Janie was born October 18, 1913 at Dechard, Tennessee to Sarah Jane and Frank Burkhalter. Janie married Elmer Meek, May 26, 1935 and they enjoyed 67 years together, most of which were spent residing in the Bayview-Los Fresnos area. Janie was a homemaker and an accomplished China Painter Instructor.

Janie had one son, Elmer Eldon Meek who died in 1971 at the age of 33 in a farm related accident and has one daughter, Karen Measel of Beaumont, TX. Before moving to Kerrville, Janie lived at Golden Palms Retirement Center, Harlingen, enjoying many friends there. Janie will be missed greatly by her family as she was such a devoted Grandmother to all her Grandchildren. She will be remembered by her family and friends for such a Godly woman that she was. A professing Christian, Janie served her Lord as a Bible Teacher in the First Baptist Church for over 30 years.

Survivors include daughter, Karen Measel of Beaumont; daughter-in-law, Paula Royal and spouse, Ronnie of Bandera; grandsons, Joel Meek and spouse, Christina, Mark Meek and spouse, Kim, Michael Meek and spouse, Dawsie, Preston Lamb, Kendal Lamb; granddaughters, Tina Gorsich and spouse, David and Kaleena Lamb. There are eight great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and one sister, Ruth Etoile Ruark of California.

Janie is preceded in death by her son, Elmer Eldon in 1971; grandson, Daniel in 1999; a great grandson, Eldon Mark in 2001 and her husband, Elmer in 2003.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice or to the Gideon Bible Society, P.O. Box 1638, Los Fresnos, TX 78566.

Local arrangements are entrusted to GRIMES FUNERAL CHAPELS of Kerrville.

Geraldine Goss Meeker
Born on June 2, 1922 in Kerrville, TX

Geraldine Goss Meeker was born on June 2, 1922 in Kerr County,  Texas. She died in Kerrville on March 1, 2007 at the age of 84 years. She lived in Kerrville all her life. Geraldine (Jerrie) graduated from Tivy High School in 1941 and was a class officer for her senior class.

Jerrie married Franklin Meeker, her high school sweetheart, on December 20, 1941 in the Kerrville First Methodist Church. She worked at the Kerr County Clerk’s office for 30 years as a deputy.

She is survived by her children, Dianne DeBarros and husband, Alfred of Helotes, TX, Richard Meeker and wife, Donna of Buda, TX, and Steven Meeker and wife, Sheri of Montgomery, TX; her brothers, Charles Heidel, Louis Heidel, Donald Goss, and William Goss; and her sisters, Dessie Goss and Carol Thomas. She had eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her dear companion, Al Taylor. She was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Goss and brothers, Harry Lee and Richard Goss

Following retirement, she found joy in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jerrie and Franklin traveled often prior to his death in 1994.

Jerrie volunteered in the community, first at the VA Hospital, and later at the Hill Country Youth Ranch Thrift Shop. She was a valued resource regarding the history of Kerr County, and was a descendent of the founders of Kerr County. Jerrie was also a member of the DAR.

She was hardworking and energetic, and enjoyed living at the family homestead. Jerrie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be loved forever and dearly missed.

Services will be held Monday, March 5, 2007, 10 AM at First United Methodist Church officiated by Dr. Warren Hornung. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Pallbearers are grandsons, Wade Meeker, Wes Meeker, Randy Meeker, great grandson, Cody DeBarros and grandsons-in-law, Shane Byrd and Mike Hewson.

Memorials may be made to the Hill Country Youth Ranch, P.O. Box 67, Ingram, TX 78025, Bloys Camp Meeting Association, Attn: Joni Powers, 5528 Tanbark, Dallas, TX 75229, or the First United Methodist Church, 321 Thompson Dr., Kerrville, TX 78028.

Mary Mendez
Born in San Antonio, TX on September 21, 1928
Departed on May 13, 2004, and resided in Bandera, TX

Mary Mendez, age 75 of Bandera, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2004 at her home in Bandera. She was born September 21, 1928 in San Antonio, TX.
For many years, Mary worked for Montgomery Ward in San Antonio. She became a housewife and homemaker when her children were born.

Mary is survived by her son, Ray A. Mendez of Bandera; grandchildren, Jennifer Cervantes and husband, Charlie, Stefan Erfurth and wife, Vanessa, and Jonathan Erfurth. Also, three great grandchildren, Sage Cervantes, Ethan Erfurth and Lauralei Erfurth, and numerous brothers and sisters. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Anthony Mendez, and a daughter, Mary Lou Mendez.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Monday, May 17, 2004, 7:00 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels, with Bobby Stein officiating.

Mass will be held Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with Father Stan Oleksy as celebrant. Interment will be held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to GRIMES FUNERAL CHAPELS of Bandera.

Enedina Mendiola
Born in Blytheville, AR on January 1, 1948
Departed on April 9, 2003 and resided in Dilly, TX.

Ms. Enedina Mendiola, age 55 of Cotulla,  Texas passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at a Dilley,  Texas hospital. She was born January 1, 1948 in Blytheville, Arkansas to Erasmo Mendiola, Sr. and Elvira Ruiz.

Enedina was a 1968 graduate of Tivy High School and a 1977 Pan American University in Edinburg. She taught 22 years in Cotulla and was loved by her students at Cotulla School. She was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church.

She is survived by her mother, Elvira Ruiz of Kerrville; one adopted son, Rudy Garcia of Dilley,  Texas; three sisters, Elma Mendiola of Cotulla, Eva Mendiola Dominguez and husband, Juan of Cotulla and Estella Mendiola Raymond of Kerrville; one brother, Erasmo Mendiola, Jr. And wife, Dora of Kerrville; nieces, Laura A. Dominguez, Maristela M. Dominguez; nephew, Private 2nd Class, Steven D. Raymond, Jr., and dear friend, Father Jose Lopez.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Friday, April 11, 2003, 7:00 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 12, 2003, 2:00 p.m. at Notre Dame Catholic Church with Father Jose Lopez and Monsenor James Janish. Interment will follow at Glen Rest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the NW Kidney Dialysis Center in San Antonio.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of GRIMES FUNERAL CHAPELS of Kerrville.

John Courtney Meriwether
Born in Shreveport, LA on July 16, 1984
Departed on April 12, 2003 and resided in Kerrville, TX.

Our child of God whose gentle spirit and happy heart will live on in each of us John Courtney Meriwether was taken to be one of His angels Saturday morning, April 12, 2003, in a fatal car accident. He was born in Shreveport,  Louisiana, July 16, 1984 and grew up in Hunt,  Texas, after moving to the Hill Country with his parents and sister as a baby. Courtney was a track star and an avid athlete at Ingram Tom Moore High School in Ingram,  Texas. Grew up active in youth group and church at Hunt Methodist. He was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

There will be a time for paying your respects at Grimes Funeral Chapels on Monday April 14, 2003 from 6:00 to 10:00 P. M. Special Memorial Service will be held at Ingram Tom Moore High School Track and Stadium and officiated by Stockton Williams and Frankie Enloe on Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at 3:00 P. M.

Courtney is carried forever in the hearts of his loving family, his older sister Rachel Allen Meriwether, Mother Leta Allen Williams; Father John Christopher Meriwether; his mother’s family, Grandmother Mary G. Williams, Grandfather and Grandmother Kenneth Eugene and Betty Williams, Great Uncle and Aunt, Mr. And Mrs. B. K. Eaves and their children, Great Aunt Sarah Spurgin and her children, Aunt and Uncle Gene and Kristin Williams, Aunt and Uncle David and Wendy Tumey and their children. His father’s family Grandfather and Grandmother John and Dorothy Meriwether, Great Grandparents Felix and Anna Bernard, Great Grandparents John and Anna Meriwether, Uncle and Aunt William and Denise Meriwether, Aunt and Uncle Parin and Irene Bernard and their children, Aunt Judith Meriwether and her children, Aunt and Uncle Josie and Ricky Orte and children, Aunt and Uncle Jackie and Barney Rees and children; and his many many loved friends.
