Johnny Rene Hudson
Johnny Rene Hudson, 34, died in Athens following an automobile accident in Payne Springs Friday, June 7, 2002. He was born June 22, 1967, in Athens. He worked for himself in many different businesses, mainly in construction. He married Sendy Sue Thompson Oct. 11, 1997, in Malakoff. He was of Christian faith, and was a big hunter and fisherman. He was a lifelong resident of Henderson County.
Graveside funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at Trinidad Cemetery in Trinidad at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Don R. Williams officiating. Visitation was from 9 a.m. to noon also on Wednesday, June 12, 2002.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Henry Edward Hudson and Clyde and Florence Berry.
Survivors include wife, Sendy Hudson of Payne Springs; children, Cassondra Rene Hudson of Payne Springs, Duan Iron Fist Hudson of Payne Springs, Tiffany Maebelle Hudson of Payne Springs; mother and stepfather, Virginia Ann and Ben Williams of Joshua, Texas; father and stepmother, John Daniel and Brenda Hudson of Seven Points; brother and sisters, Gloria Ann Williams of Seven Points, Laura Gail Barrils of Burleson, Ronnie Allen Isom of Seven Points, Gloria Gail Hudson of Seven Points; grandmother, Lorene Mae Hudson of Malakoff.

Clois 'Frog' Everitt
Services for Clois "Frog" Everitt, 91, of Mabank were held 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2002, in Payne Springs Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Mark Vaughan and the Rev. Charlie Woodard officiating. Interment followed at Payne Springs Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Mr. Everitt died Monday, June 10, 2002, in Mabank. He was born May 5, 1911, in Payne Springs. Mr. Everitt was a state employee, working on the roads.
He was preceded in death by son, Clois Max Everitt; 12 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include wife, Ida Everitt of Mabank; nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.
Pallbearers were Darrell Everitt, Darrin Everitt, Forest Everitt, Rodney Everitt, Travis Everitt, and Troy Taylor.
Irene Mangrum Hubbard
Irene Mangrum Hubbard died of heart failure on June 10, 2002, in Corsicana. She was born Nov. 9, 1917, in Kerens to the late Eldridge and Olivia Daniel Mangrum. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Malakoff. She was a housewife, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Malakoff. She has been a resident of the lake area for 24 years, moving from Dallas.
Services were held at First Baptist Church of Malakoff Thursday, June 13, 2002, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Coleman officiating. Interment followed at Samaria Cemetery. Glenn Chism, Ray Chancellor, Jon Oliver, Joseph Oliver, Nantambu Kambon, and Fred Mangrum served as pallbearers. Visitation was at the church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Booker Sparks and Guy Hubbard; parents, Eldridge and Olivia Mangrum; grandparents, Martha and Cannon Daniel; sisters, Grace Gladys, Cannie, Cornelia and Maude; brothers, Percy, Harry, Robert, Williard, and Claxton; granddaughter, Angela McDonald.
Survivors include son, Jesse Tom Hubbard of Detroit, Mich.; daughters, Wanda Olivia Roberts of Dallas, Patricia Diane Hubbard Chism and husband, Glenn, of Duncanville; grandchildren, Jon, Joseph, and Aimee Oliver, and Ray Lee Chancellor; great-grandchildren, Sidney Johnson and Victoria McDonald.

Olden 'Phil' K. Phillips
Funeral services for Olden "Phil" Phillips, 81, of Kemp were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Kemp, with the Rev. Jim Renfro officiating. Interment followed at 12:30 p.m. at Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas, under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home.
Mr. Phillips was born Feb. 19, 1921, in Poolville, Texas, to Lon and Viola (Tyree) Phillips. He died Oct. 11, 2002, in Dallas. He married Louise Hogue in Rockwall, on Feb. 4, 1959, and they lived in the Seven Points-Kemp area since 1985. He owned and operated Oak Hill Bait and Tackle Shop in Kleberg for many years. Mr. Phillips was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a military Police officer.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Louise Phillips of Kemp; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Joseph Murphy of Waxahachie; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Sylvia Wilson of Southlake; grandchildren, Chris, Donnie, Ericka and Jennifer; great-grandchildren, James and Brendan; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Nelda Hill Stewart
Nelda Hill Stewart of Dallas passed away on Oct. 17, 2002. She was born May 25, 1935, to the late Grady Willie and Juanita Marie Richman Hill in Kaufman. Mrs. Stewart is surved by her children, Madonna Kearney and her husband, Rick, Grady Stewart and his wife, Lisa, and Lyn Stewart and his wife, Cyndra; grandchildren, Amber Prather, Shannon Kemp, Grady, Cole, Brittany and Lee Stewart; great-grandchildren, Mason and Konner Kemp, Harleigh and Addison Prather; sister, Jackie MacLelland and husband, Chip; former husband, James Stewart; one niece, two nephews and other relatives. Services were held noon Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at First United Methodist Church in Forney. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, and Sunday, Oct. 20, at Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Forney.
D.A. Resse
Services for D.A. Reese, 65, of Canton were held 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Eubank Memorial Chapel with the Rev. John Smith officiating. Interment followed at Payne Springs Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Mr. Reese died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in Arlington. He was born Sept. 26, 1937, in Forseph, Ga. He was a mechanical engineer, and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Reese.
Survivors include daughter, Pam and Bug Martin of Eustace; sister, Darlene and Larry Beets of Joaquin; brothers, Bob and Janice Reese of Bellevue, Wash., Doug and Patty Reese of Canton, Gerald and Doris Reese of Canton; grandchildren, Beth Williamson and Casey Williamson of Athens.

Danny Lee Smith
Services for Danny Lee Smith, 50, of Kemp were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at the Kemp Cemetery with the Rev. Dub Henry officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home of Kemp.
Mr. Smith was born on Jan. 20, 1952, in Orange, Texas, a son of Arles "Shorty" and Sue Nicks Smith and passes away on Oct. 17, 2002, at his residence in Kemp. Mr. Smith had lived in Kemp for many years and was Baptist by faith.
Survivors include his parents, Shorty and Sue Smith of Kemp; brothers, Johnnie Smith and his wife, Pam, of Kemp, Bill Smith of Kemp, and Les Smith and his wife, Rhonda, of Kemp; sister, Lynn Jones and her husband, Jackie, of Kemp; uncle, Johnnie Nicks and his wife, Rustie, of Bridge City, Texas; nieces and nephews, Brandon Smith and wife, Hope, Damon Smith, Brian Smith, Justin Smith, Blake Smith, David Jones, Aaron Smith, April Smith; great nieces and nephews, Maddy Smith, Connor Smith, Presley Colgrove and Ashton Smith as well as numerous other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives.

Services for J.M. Gross Jr., 60, of Scurry were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at the Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home Chapel in Kemp with Pastor Troy Watson and Bro. David Stuart officiating. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park in Seagoville under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home of Kemp.
Mr. Gross was born on April 20, 1942, in Dell, Ark., a son of the late Jacob Mart Gross Sr. and Georgie Velma Champion Gross and passed away on Oct. 15, 2002, in Kaufman. He was married to Annette Crowell and also was a member of the Teamsters Local Union 745 in Dallas for 35 years. He loved driving his 18-wheeler, working with his tractor, and he also enjoyed the game rooms.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Georgia Gross; brothers, Albert Gross, Buddy Gross, Alvin Gross Sr. and Floyd Cook; sons, Jacob Mart Gross III and Kenneth Lynn Gross; grandson, Brandon Lynn Mason and granddaughter, Makala Shiann Gross.
Survivors include his wife, Annette Gross of Scurry; son, David Gross of Scurry; daughters, Rebecca Tijerina and Susan Mason, both of Scurry; sisters, Edith Riggs of Dell, Ark.; Irene Overton of Dell, Ark.; Shelby Wallace of Blytheville, Ark. and Velma Duckworth of Black Rock, Ark., as well as nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and numerous other friends and relatives.

T.J. Parks
T.J. Parks, 76, died in Athens on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002. He was born to the late Tobe Wilson and Elizabeth Ellen Grant-Parks on June 18, 1926, in Mountain Home, Ark. Mr. Parks was of the Protestant faith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He has been a resident of Malakoff most of his life.
Graveside services were held at Trinidad Cemetery on Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at 3 p.m. with John Parks and Donny Riggs officiating. District No. 30 VFW Honorguard provided military honors at the graveside.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, John and Priscilla Parks of Tampa, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law, Lorene and Claude Jackson of Trinidad; several nieces and nephews.

Beatrice Marie Bates
Services for Beatrice Marie Bates, 71, of Kemp were held at the First Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, with the Revs. Byron Jones and Denny Gorena officiating. Interment followed at Ware Cemetery in Kaufman County under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home of Kemp.
Mr. Bates was born Sept. 24, 1931, in Cherokee County to Roy and Grace (Lamb) Wornick. She died Oct. 15, 2002, in Tyler. She married Elmer Harold Bates on June 20, 1948, in Troup. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1999. Her parents also preceded her.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Sue Bates and Gary and Marie Bates; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Charles Richardson, Alice and William Brown, and Pam and Jimmy Raines; grandchildren, Timmy Bates, Tommy Miller and wife Christie, Leigh Ann De Priest and husband, Rodney, Greg Bates, Greg Frazier and wife Kristi, Jason Miller, Sharon Clay and husband Chase, Joanie Bates, Lea Melton, Elizabeth Melton and husband David, Daniel Bates and Sara Bates; great-grandchildren, Kaylee De Priest, Tori De Priest, Jonathan Frazier, Richard Chase, Wade Miller, Alexandria Frazier, Jacob Frazier, and Halie Winn. Helen Martin Able
Services for Helen Martin Able, 81, of Kemp were held 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, in First Baptist Church of Tool with the Rev. Shawn Bailey officiating. Interment followed at Emerald Hills Memorial Park in Kennedale under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Mrs. Able died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, in Athens. She was born July 29, 1921, in Columbia, Tenn. She was a homemaker, who owned and operated a very successful ceramic shop. She made hundreds of new friends and loved them all as family.
Survivors include husband of 63 years, Nevel Able of Kemp; son, Gary Able of Tool; daughter, Regina and Charles Leck of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Jami Murray of Arlington, Jodi White of England; four great-grandchildren; other family members and a host of friends.
Garland S. O'Pry
Services of remembrance were held for Garland S. O'Pry, 89, of Kemp at 2 p.m. Feb. 25, 2003, at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Dub Henry officiating. Interment followed at King Cemetery near Kemp.
Mr. O'Pry was born in Limestone County on Aug. 3, 1913, and died in Kemp Feb. 22, 2003. His wife, Billie Jo O'Pry preceded him in death Sept. 17, 1999. His parents, and a son, Garland Ray O'Pry also preceded him.
Survivors include sons, Robert O'Pry, Larry O'Pry and Irvin O'Pry; daughters, Betty Tumlinson, Darlene Mendez, Marlene Mendez, and Jarlene O'Pry; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Estelle Vickery; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Roger D. Williams
Roger D. Williams, 95, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003. He is survived by his daughter, V. Merlene French of Tool; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and many loving relatives and friends. He was a member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church in Houston. He was a lifetime 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Scottish Rite, and United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. His witness will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones. Mr. Williams was a Christian who loved the Lord. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertha Williams, and two daughters, Earlene Baxter and Bobbie Gutierrez. Services were at Faith Memorial Baptist Church in Houston.
Mary Louise Davidson Asmussen
Mary Louise Davidson Asmussen, 85, of Dallas passed away Feb. 22, 2003, in Athens. The Celebration Mass was held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at Calvary Hill Cemetery Chapel under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank. Interment was at Calvary Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Asmussen was born Sept. 3, 1917, in San Benito, Texas, to General Louis Scott and Ottilia Bohny Davidson. She was a homemaker and a member of Saint Monica Catholic Church and a long-standing Democratic Precinct Chairman and Election Judge. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Robert Y. Asmussen; son, David Scott Asmussen; daughter, Susan Lynn Moore and husband, Barry. Survivors include son, Bob Asmussen and wife, Elaine of Athens; daughter, Joan Baird and husband, Jim of Dallas; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Darrin Asmussen, Casey Mochman, Barry Moore, Jimmy Baird, Mark Gunn, Doug Learmont, and Charlie Depner. Family received friends Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Services for Mari "Mai" Uhry, 77, of Tyler were held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at Elm Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Howard officiating. Interment followed at Elm Grove Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Mrs. Uhry died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, in Tyler. She was born July 6, 1925, in Dallas. She was an office manager.

Thomas Ray Hamilton
Funeral services were held for Thomas Ray Hamilton, 45, of Kemp on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Rosenquist officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Scurry.
He was born Nov. 27, 1957, in Kaufman and died Feb. 16, 2003, at his home near Kemp. He married Vickie Fortner. His father, Ed Hamilton, and a brother, Tony Cox, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie Hamilton of Kemp; son, Jonathan Hamilton of Kemp; daughter, Jennifer Raean Hamilton of Kemp and her fiancee, Bryan Kirby of Wills Point; granddaughter, Libby Hamilton of Kemp; mother, Ella Marie (Tucker) Hamilton of Kemp; father, Roy Cox of Houston. Also surviving are brothers, Clint Hamilton of Tool; Eugene Hamilton and Dewayne Hamilton, both of Kemp; sisters, Terry Ferguson and husband, Tom of Spring and Tina Ethridge and husband, Tom of Lawrenceville, Ga.; his special girls, Tonya Teague and Tabitha Williams; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Loryne Williams Serriere
Loryne Williams Serriere passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2003. Mrs. Serriere was born in Konawa, Okla., July 31, 1913, to Dr. Jon T. and Ethel Williams. She made her home with her daughter Ethel J. and son-in-law Dwayne Hagin in Gun Barrel City. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City.
Although as a small child she lived in several small towns in Oklahoma, Blackwell was the town where she grew up, married and raised her family. Mrs. Serriere was a housewife and mother and helped her husband farm from Oklahoma to Colorado and Kansas. She loved to cook and can vegetables they had grown. She enjoyed fishing and liked to crochet or hook rugs.
Mrs. Serriere is preceded in death by her husband James Ed Serriere, mother and father, baby sister and beloved brother Dr. Jon T. Williams Jr. She is survived by two daughters Ethel J. Hagin and son-in-law Dwayne Hagin of Gun Barrel City and Carol Jean Thompson of Tulsa, Okla. Also surviving is granddaughter, Arleen Garrison of New York; great-grandsons, Ben and Matt Garrison of Tulsa, Okla.
Services were at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at Eubank Memorial Chapel in Mabank with the Rev. Byron Jones officiating. Graveside services were 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, in Blackwell Cemetery, Blackwell, Okla., with the Rev. Rick Longcrier officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 137 E Bar-H Dr., Gun Barrel City for the new family life center.
James Larry Jones Sr.
Services for James Larry Jones Sr., 50, of Mabank were held 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. James Howard officiating. Interment followed at Cedar Creek Memorial Park under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.
Mr. Jones died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, in Shreveport, La. He was born July 8, 1952, in Dallas. He was a master electrician.
Survivors include wife, Brenda Jones of Mabank; father, Alfred Jones of Mabank; daughters, Shelly Gray of Mabank, Shannon Ingle of McKinney; son, James Larry Jones Jr. of Keller; brothers, Gary Glenn Jones of Mesquite, Terry Lynn Jones of Mabank; eight grandchildren.
Pat Patterson
Graveside services for Pat Patterson, 67, of Kemp were held 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, in Baker Cemetery in Tolosa with Bro. D.L. Pendleton of the Seven Points Baptist Church.
Mr. Patterson died Feb. 29, 2003, in Seven Points. He was born Jan. 3, 1936, in Ralston, Okla. He was a truck driver, and served in the U.S. Army for seven years.
He was preceded in death by parents, Leo Patterson and Florence Hobson Patterson; and sister, Polly Ellis.
Survivors include sons, Kenneth and Gwen Wright of Seven Points, Jay and Sharon Wright of Kemp; daughter, Leslee and David Lay of Duncanville; brother, Merle Patterson of Shawnee, Okla.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at the funeral home.
Nancy Ann Glenn
Services of remembrance were held for Nancy Ann Glenn, 46, of Seven Points at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Kemp with the Rev. Bob Parry officiating. Interment followed at Ware Cemetery in Kaufman County.
Mrs. Glenn was born in Dallas, Sept. 4, 1956, to O.D. and Billie Jean (Richards) Payne, and died in Dallas Feb. 19, 2003. She married Ed Glenn in Waco on Dec. 21, 1991. They had lived in Seven Points the past six years. She was a registered nurse with Visiting Nurse Association Homecare and was a member of Cedar Creek Bible Church. Her mother, Billie Jean Payne, preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 2000 and a brother, Billy Payne on May 28, 2001.
Survivors include her husband, Ed Glenn of Seven Points; daughter, Sarah Glenn of Seven Points; son, Chandler Glenn of Seven Points; father, O. D. Payne of Seven Points; brother, Bobby Payne of Dallas; sisters, Kay Mayor and Jan Harrison, both of Farmers Branch; mother-in-law, Corene Glenn of Waco; and numerous other relatives and friends.
