Graveside services for CLAUD C. (BILL) BROWN were held July 29 at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. He was born May 31, 1920 and died July 25, 2006 in Farmers Branch after a long illness.
He was a World War II veteran and lived in the Cedar Creek Lake area for about 10 years.
He is survived by his son, Craig Brown of Farmers Branch; a daughter, Teri Coffman; three grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy Wilson of the Cedar Creek Lake area.
Winona Raelyne Anderson
Services for Winona Raelyne Anderson, 51, of Bedford, were held Aug. 12 at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home with Daniel Anderson officiating.
Burial followed at Payne Springs Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home.
Mrs. Anderson was born Aug. 9, 1954 in Fort Worth and passed away Aug. 8, 2006.
Previously of Mabank, Mrs. Anderson had lived in Bedford for the last seven years. She was of the Baptist faith and was employed at Allstate Insurance Company in Irving.
She is survived by her mother, Wilma Peterson of Mabank; daughter, Misty Castleman and husband Randy of Cleburne; son, Warren Anderson and wife Krisi of Hurst; grandchildren Steffin, Caitlin and Nicole Castleman and Tyler and Saidee Anderson; nieces, nephews and other family members and many friends.
BETTY CAROL IRVIN
Services for BETTY CAROL IRVIN, 61, of Kemp, were held Aug. 20 in the Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home Chapel in Kemp with Rev. Kelly Betts officiating. Interment followed in the King Cemetery, under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home of Kemp.
Mrs. Irvin was born Aug. 2, 1946 in Dallas to W.C. and Mamie (Henson) Tatom and passed away Aug. 17, 2007 in Dallas. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a former City Secretary in Kemp. She was loved and had a loving family who will dearly miss her. She loved the Dallas Cowboys and Jeff Gordon, and was a wonderful wife, mother and nanny. Her mother, and brother, Dale Tatom, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Gay Irvin of Kemp; sons, Travis Irvin and his wife Melinda, Casey Irvin and his wife Shirley and Chauncey Irvin and his fiancé Melissa, all of Kemp; eight grandchildren, Cameron, Tyler, Landon, Madison, Bailey, Peyton, Ethyn, and Daltyn; her father, W.C. Tatom of Kemp; brother, Glen Tatom and his wife Diane of Combine; sister, Gayle Fain and her husband Bobby of Lubbock; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
VIVIAN WILSON
VIVIAN WILSON, 93, of the Cedar Creek Lake area, passed away Aug. 16, 2007 in Corsicana. She was born July 17, 1914 in Dallas County. She was a nurse and a member of the Payne Springs United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons, R.L. Reeb and wife Cheryl of Little Elm and Charles Wilson of Gun Barrel City; three daughters, Pat Collins and husband Glynn of Mabank, Jeannine Roark and husband Don of Dickinson and Nora Cribbs and husband William of Avalon; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Aug. 18 at the Payne Cemetery in Payne Springs with Rev. David Diller officiating. Services were under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home.
GARY LON STINNETT
GARY LON STINNETT, loving husband and father, born April 14, 1967, passed away August 19, 2007.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Stinnett. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Lisa Stinnett; daughters, Shady Stinnett and Kortney Jones; a son, Austin Lon Stinnett; mother, Doris Spangler: brother, Mike Stinnett; sisters, Vicky Teel and Nancy Stinnett; many other loving family and friends.
Services were held Aug. 23 at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Mesquite under the direction of New Hope Funeral Home of Sunnyvale.
CHARLOTTE ANN EASON
CHARLOTTE ANN EASON, 56, of Kemp, died Aug. 15, 2007 in Kemp. She was born Aug. 7, 1951 in Collierville, Tenn., the daughter of the late Charles and Neillie Hinesley.
She was a member of Styx Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Surviving are her husband, Leonard Eason Jr.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Toby and Nathan Hall of Gun Barrel City, Ruby and Craig Lewis of Tool and Michelle and Matthew Webb of Kemp; two sisters, Marge Flake and Phyllis Hall; a brother, Charles Hinesley and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Lenny “Bear” Eason.
Services were held Aug. 18 at Tomlinson Funeral Home with Rev. Dub Henry officiating. Interment followed in the Ware Cemetery, Kemp, under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home.
Clifton Carlyle Harris, Jr.
Clifton Carlyle Harris, Jr. entered into eternal rest on the morning of Aug. 19 in Charleston, S.C. Services were held Aug. 23 at the First Baptist Church of Charleston. Interment was in Old St. David’s Cemetery, Cheraw, S.C.
Mr. Harris, Jr. was born Dec. 29, 1948 in Charleston, S.C., the son of Clifton Carlyle Harris, Sr. and Barbara Harrison Harris. He was a graduate of James Island High School and received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served on the Board of Deacons and was a choir member.
Mr. Harris was a registered tour guide for the City of Charleston and for 33 years he taught history at First Baptist Church School. He enjoyed traveling around the world and sharing his experiences with his students.
He is survived by his father, Clifton C. Harris, Sr. and his step-mother, Alene of Mabank; mother, Barbara H. Reeder of Saluda, S.C.; two uncles, Lawrence R. (Lee) Harris of Garden City, Ga. and W.F. Harris (Elma) of Charleston, S.C.; two aunts, Laura H. Barker of Charleston, S.C. and Mary Lou Deason of Greensboro, N.C. and several cousins.

JAMES ALFRED KEY
On Sept. 4, 1933, JAMES ALFRED KEY was born to Cecil and Connie Key in the Oak Grove community of Smith County. He passed away on Aug. 22, 2007 in Kaufman.
James graduated from Bullard High School in 1952 where he had played basketball and made many lifelong friends. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea from Jan. 21, 1954 to Nov. 22, 1955. He married Nancy Beth Smith on Jan. 26, 1957. Nancy, the mother of his five sons, preceded him in death.
In January 1999, James was blessed with another wife, Nona Goble. They lived several years near Kemp on the family farm.
He is survived by his current wife, Nona Goble-Key of Kemp; brother, Julius (Dub) Key of Lake Palestine; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Bob Travis of Bullard; his sons and families, David and Barbara Key, their children Stefanie and Scott from Belton; Brian and Karen Key, their children Jessica and Cory Daniels; Rebecca and Alyssa from Kemp; Lowell and Melinda Key, their children Peyton, Hannah, Owen, Sawyer, Gabriella and Molly from Charleston, South Carolina; Kyle and Julie Key, their children Nathan, Emily and Caleb from Kemp; Adam and Kristi Key, their children Makaye, Nancy, Chloe, Mary Kate, and Abigail from Eustace; stepdaughter Cheri Goble, her children Lainie and Rachel from Garland and many nieces and nephews.
James was a member of the Teamster’s union many years, driving both local and long distance. He was a member of Cedar Creek Bible Church where he served as an elder and in the Prime Timers Club. He was also known for seeking friendships and lending a helping hand to those in need. James will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial services were held Aug. 25.

GERALDINE BURNHAM DEAVER
GERALDINE BURNHAM DEAVER was born Feb. 17, 1926 in Texarkana to Roy and Jessie Burnham.
Her one brother was christened Lionel, but he was “Bud” to all. Her family moved to Dallas when she was a teenager. She ran around with her brother’s crowd and fell in love with a high school graduate named Tommie Hayes Deaver and married him, shortly after her own graduation, in December of 1945.
She and Tommie moved quite a bit during their first 10 years together. They had two sons: David, born in 1950 and Danny, born in 1952. They spent the next 10 years between Austin, Garland and Tyler. Gerry became quite a good bookkeeper and then an auditor for the State of Texas. She and Tommie settled in Austin and then in 1987 they built their dream home on Eastwood Island in Gun Barrel City near the shores of Cedar Creek Lake, next door to brother Bud and his wife, Cipe. What great times they had together!
In 1995, she and Tommie celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with family and friends at a surprise party. Gerry often talked of the party and what fun it was. When she moved back to Austin in what would be, sadly, the final two months of her life, the corsage was part of her cherished possessions.
They shared wonderful days in Gun Barrel City. Their house was always open to all who dropped in and they especially loved to have their kids and grandkids visit. They found time for card games, noonday onions, a new azalea bush, anyone who had a good story, or a football game. Sometimes they got itchy and took off fishing or on a road trip with Bud and Cipe or Bob and Billie Curtis.
In Gerry, Joanne and Maria had a loving and caring mother-in-law, whom we called “Mom” because, well, that’s what she was. Her grandchildren, Diana, David, Josh, and Jason were loved and cherished by both Gi Gi and Paw Paw. She got to spend her time with her great granddaughter, Gwen.
In a span of just a few years, Gerry lost her brother; sister-in-law, Cipe; and then her beloved Tommie in 2003. She continued to live in the house and stayed active in the Property Owners Association, The Alohas, The Henderson County Republican’s Group and the Red Hat Club. The family is grateful to our mom’s many friends and especially to her niece Barbara Neidenbach and husband Gary, who provided joy and fun to Gerry’s last days in Gun Barrel City.
In Austin, on Aug. 14, 2007, Gerry slipped away and went to join Tommie.
There will be a memorial service at 3 p.m. Sept. 15 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Gun Barrel City. All who knew her are invited to come and share a favorite memory. Gerry loved Vetoni’s. Please join us there after the service from 4:30 - 6 p.m.

DOROTHY LOUISE BASS
Services for DOROTHY LOUISE BASS, 79, of Athens, were held Aug. 28 in the chapel at Cooper Funeral Home of Athens. Interment was in the Post Oak Cemetery near Cross Roads. She passed away Aug. 19 in Athens.
Mrs. Bass was born Nov. 6, 1926 in Texarkana, Arkansas to James Thomas and Onedia Peek. She moved to Dallas as an adult and married Neyland G. Bass on Sept. 20, 1958. She resided in Longview for several years where she was the owner and operator of Dot’s Hobby Shop. She had resided in Henderson County for the past 15 years. Mrs. Bass enjoyed fishing, gardening, sewing and quilting.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-grandson, Matthew Elam. She is survived by her husband, Neyland G. Bass of Athens; daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Jim Sherrin of Texarkana, Texas and Sue and Randy Watson of Athens; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Eloise Peek of Houston, Melvin and Pat Peek of Shreveport, La. and Billy and Carolyn Peek of Lufkin; sisters and brother-in-law, Frances Jones of Longview and Ann and Orace Edwards of Arlington; grandchildren, Mona Sims, Candy Elam, Jody Watson and Jennifer Dowell and 10 great-grandchildren.
LENORA LEE LOGAN
LENORA LEE LOGAN, 86, of Malakoff, was born April 13, 1921 in Kiowana, Okla. to Bud Turknett and Ethel Gafford and passed away Sept. 1, 2007 in Malakoff.
Mrs. Logan married on Aug. 9, 1941 to Madison Edgar Logan and worked as a seamstress.
She was loved, respected and will be missed. She was stubborn and determined. She raised five sons and had to be strong, tough and loving. Her home was always open to all. She supported her family totally with all of her being. When her family hurt, she hurt. There was no protecting her from any situation. She had a way of knowing and letting us know.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bud Turknett; mother, Ethel Turknett; husband, Edgar Logan; daughter, Shirley Logan; brothers, Johnny Turknett and J.C. Turknett; great-grandson Daniel Logan and great-great grandson Johney McDaniel.
Survivors include Jerry and Elmia Logan, Larry and Linda Logan, James and Brenda Logan, Ricky and Gaynell Logan of Scott Air Force Base, Billy Logan of Franklin, La. and a host of friends and other relatives.
Services were held Sept. 3 at Gordon-Foster-Brown Chapel with Rev. Gene Bishop officiating. Burial followed at Judson Cemetery in Cross Roads.
Pallbearers were Darrell Ross, Danny Constant, Jason Logan, Jamie Logan, J.P. Pattinson, Clyde Turknett, David Turknett and Bryant Logan.
VELMA DURAN
VELMA DURAN, 87, of Eustace, was born Dec. 1, 1939 in Tyler to Roy Lawrence and Ruth Smith and passed away at ETMC in Athens on Aug. 31, 2007.
Mrs. Duran was a member of the Church of Christ. She never met a stranger. She was always friendly to everyone. She was married Sept. 9, 1996 to Johnny Bailey in Eustace.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Duran and brother, Floyd Smith.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny Bailey and sisters, Patsy Osborne, Laura Neely and Edna Latson.
Services were held Sept. 2 at Eustace Church of Christ with Rev. Don Bentley officiating. Burial followed at Morehead-Melton Cemetery in Eustace under the direction of Gordon-Foster-Brown Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were James Morton, Jim Bailey, Wade Morton, Jeff Bramblet, Tad Morton and Corey Perkins.
DICKIE OWEN (BARRY) DEARICK
DICKIE OWEN (BARRY) DEARICK, 67, of Mabank, was born March 1, 1940 in Van Zandt County and passed away Sept. 1, 2007 in Athens.
Mrs. Dearick has resided in Mabank and was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church of Kemp. Mrs. Dearick was employed as a machine operator.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Dearick of Mabank; daughters, Kay Alldredge and husband Richard Jr. of Mabank, Paula Pass and husband Eddie of Van, Rachel Wilson and husband Roy of Mabank, Dorothy Seeds and husband Steve of Saint Jo and Tonda Law and husband Harold Evans of Mabank; sons, Tim Cubine of Mabank, Joey Cubine and wife Stephanie of Union Grove, Robert Dearick and wife Debbie of Ennis and Michael Dearick and wife Carolyn of Belton; 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Jackie Barry.
Services were held at Eubank Memorial Chapel in Mabank on Sept. 4. with Bro. Jim Addison officiating. Burial followed at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Tim Cubine, Joey Cubine, Richard Alldredge, Robert Dearick, Johnny Law, Chris Stewart and Scott Stewart.
WALTER R. FINIGAN
WALTER R. FINIGAN, 83, of Mabank, was born in San Antonio Oct. 3, 1923 and passed away Sept. 19, 2007.
Previously of Dallas, Mr. Finigan had resided in Mabank since 1983 and was a member of the Four Mile Lutheran Church and Masonic Lodge #1431 in Gun Barrel City. Mr. Finigan had retired from the Dallas Police Department in 1974 and was a World War II veteran of the Marine Corps.
Survivors include his daughter, Frances Jean Bone of Mabank; grandchildren, Jody Vincik and wife Tammy of Mabank, Jennifer Smallwood and husband Bobby of Royse City, Tiea Floyd and husband Jim of Mabank and Crystal Vincik of Marshfield. Mo.; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean Finigan in 1999 and daughter, Evelyn Jo Paul in 1987.
Services were held Sept. 22 at Eubank Memorial Chapel with Rev. Glenn Dittmer officiating. Burial followed at Four Mile Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home.
JOYCE MARIE NELSON
Services for JOYCE MARIE NELSON of Kemp were held Dec. 3 at Tomlinson Funeral Chapel in Seven Points. Mrs. Nelson was born in Dallas Oct. 23, 1953 and passed away in Kemp Thursday, Nov. 30.
She was preceded in death by her father, Zach “Dee” Miller and step-father, John Bass. She is survived by her husband, Andy Nelson; mother, Marie Miller Bass; son, Rusty and wife Trina Nelson; grandaughter, Mariah Marie Nelson; sister, Wanda and husband Larry McBride; brothers, Edd and wife Vickie Miller, T.O. and wife Glenda Miller, Rodger and wife Debra Miller; mother in law, Gracie Knesck; nephews, Jerry and Christopher McBride; great niece, Haley McBride.
