Victor Harland Garoutte

‘Victor Harland Garoutte, 81, was born on January 12, 1929 in Cambridge, Kansas to Arthur B. and Tamey Ruckman Garoutte.

He passed away on July 17, 2010 in Tyler,  Texas.

When he was 7, he moved with his family to Arkansas and lived there until he was 18 and the family moved to Caddo.

He joined the 85th Engr boat Co APO 957 on February 18, 1947.

While in the Army he received his GED. He worked for Big Red Furniture,  Oklahoma Tire & Supply and Tinker Field Air Force Base before starting his ministry.

He was licensed with the Assembly of God conference on March 10, 1961 and preached at several churches in the California area.

On July 24, 1964 he was licensed to preach with the Pentecostal Holiness Conference and preached in several churches in the  Oklahoma and  Texas area.

On March 5, 1974 he was licensed with the United Methodist Church conference and preached in various churches through out  Texas and  Oklahoma.

After he retired from preaching for the United Methodist Conference, he joined the family of the Aley United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.

Mr. Garoutte was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Christine Gazaway Garoutte; a grandson, Jonathan Garoutte; his parents and 10 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Harland and Denise Garoutte; daughter and son-in-law, Ben and Chris Allen; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Karen Garoutte; and his son Arthur Garoutte; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Gilbert and Ruth Mead.

Services were held on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Aley United Methodist Church with Rev. Eston Williams officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Aley United Methodist Church in Seven Points.

Arrangements were under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home, Seven Points.

Howard Schaefer

Memorial services for Howard Schaefer, of Mabank, were held at 10am Saturday, December 18, 2010 in the Beacon Church of Christ with Ken Maddox officiating.

Family visitation was held Friday from 6 to 8 at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank.

Mr. Schaefer was born June 30, 1962 in Los Angeles, California to Howard Joseph and Shirley Ann (Hunley) Schaefer, Sr. and passed away on December 14, 2010 in Rowlett,  Texas. He was a member of Beacon Church of Christ since 1998 and owned and operated Schaefer Cleaning Services for many years. He was a loving father and husband and coached his sons in Little League Football for over eight years winning several Super Bowls. He was preceded in death by his foster son, Timothy Dover.

Survivors include his wife Stacey Schaefer of Mabank; children, Chris Schaefer and his wife Elizabeth of Terrell, Tim Schaefer of Mabank, Michael Schaefer and his wife Miranda of Mabank, James Allen  White of Watertown, New York, and Zack Cullefer of Mabank; two grandchildren, Blake and Abigail; dad, William Cullefer and his wife Flo of Mesquite; mother, Shirley Bird and her husband Bruce of Mabank; sister, Jeannie Sutton and her husband Randy of Gun Barrel City; brothers, Tommy Schaefer of Eustace, David Schaefer of Mabank, and William Cullefer, Jr. of Mabank; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or charity of your choice.

Leon Dearmond

A memorial service for Leon Dearmond, 70, of Gun Barrel City, was held on Friday, December 17, 2010.

Leon was born on July 28, 1940 in Laurell, Mississippi to the late Adrian and Jane Dearmond.

He passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2010, in Gun Barrel City.

Leon worked for GTE and Verizon for 32 years in California and Garland,  Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years Carrie Dearmond; sons Vincent Dearmond, Vaughn Dearmond and wife Sam, Victor Dearmond and wife Angie; grandchildren Winston Kinser and wife Rhonda, Colleen Kinser, Jordan Dearmond, Emily Dearmond, Derek Dearmond and Adrian Dearmond; and many aunts, uncles, and many many friends.

Leon was loved by all who knew him.

Arrangements under the direction of Moorhead-Epps Funeral Home.

Mary Hefner

Mrs. Mary Hefner was born on November 12, 1925. She passed away on April 25, 2010 in Arlington at the age of 84. Mary is survived by her husband of 63 years, A.Y. Hefner; a daughter Maxine Snow and her husband, Mike Snow; grandson, Doug Snow and his wife, Caroline and granddaughter Holly Snow and her fiance,’ Robert French; great granddaughter Madison Snow; sisters, Eva Jean Hill and her husband, Clarence Hill and Patsy Ratto and her husband, Jimmy Ratto; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is Thursday, April 29 at 1:00 p.m. at the Anderson Clayton Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Kemp. Funeral services will be after visitation at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday with Pastor Mike Mack officiating. Burial will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery.

Les Williams

Kemp — Les Williams of Kaufman,  Texas was born on 09/16/1936 and passed away on 02/09/2010. Les was born and raised in Kemp,  Texas. The eldest son of Lester C. Williams Sr. and Floy Williams, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in Death by his son James Leslie Williams. Les is survived by his wife of 29 years Judith, his daughters Melissa Mack of Ft. Worth, TX and Andrea Richardson of Kaufman, TX as well as brother Dennis Williams of  Whitehouse, TX. Les devoted the last 32 years of his life to sharing his story with others in the hope that they might find sobriety and serenity. He is truly loved and will be missed by many. Memorial Service was held at First United Methodist Church, 208 S. Houston St., Kaufman, TX 75142, Monday, Feb. 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Lunch was provided for family and friends directly following the service.

Betty Francis Jernigan

Tool — Services for Betty Francis Jernigan, 78 of Tool, were held February 12, 2010 at the Anderson Clayton Brothers Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Schutz officiating. Internment followed at Rest Land Memorial Park in Dallas. Betty Jernigan was born March 17, 1931 in Breckenridge, TX to Hazel Langford Burris and William Francis Burris. She passed away on February 8, 2010 at her home. She was a devoted wife to Lawrence for 58 years and they had three daughters, Christy, Pam and Karen. As a mother and a homemaker, she spent many hours as a Girl Scout leader, room mother, and baking mouth watering pies and cakes. Some of her happiest times were spent outdoors bird watching, camping with family, and RVing around America, especially to the national parks, were among her favorites. Her family remembers her easy smile, the teasing glint in her brown eyes, and the immense pleasure she gained from time spent with her children and their families. Her warm heart and generous spirit extended not only to her family, but also to her beloved dogs.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Jernigan; daughters, Christy Triece and husband Steve of Longview, TX, Pam Jernigan of Dallas, TX, and Karen Kenefake and husband Dean of Sugarland, TX; sister Mary Jo Williams of Waxahachie; grandchildren, Kim Phoenix, Becky Holden and husband Brandon, Chris and Curt Kenefake; great grandchildren, Anna and Jack Phoenix as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Dean, Chris and Kurt Kenefake, Steve Triece, Brandon Holden, Jake Scherrer, James McKinney and Jackie Pendleton.

Ernest Neil Boles

Mabank — Ernest Neil Boles, 69, of Cushing, OK, formerly of Denton, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Denton Sr. Care. He was born on January 25, 1941 in Cushing, OK, to Odie Boles and Fannie Dutton Boles. He attended high school in Pampa, TX and Cushing OK, and was in the US Navy. He retired as a heavy equipment operator in the pipeline industry. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 178 since

Service will be held on February 27, 2010, 10:00 a.m. Oak Lawn Cemetery, Mabank,  Texas. Thereafter, family and friends will gather at 104 Deer Landing Trail, GBC,  Texas.

Ernest is survived by his daughter, Bridget Watson and husband Matt of The Colony, TX; son, Mike Boles and wife Sharla of Denton, TX; sisters, Ollie Ridenhour and husband Robert of Cushing, OK, and Katherine Boles of Gun Barrel City, TX; brothers, Virgil (Buck) Boles and wife Joyce of Pratt, KS, and Larry Boles and wife Debbie of Kerens, TX; granddaughter Ava Watson; and grandson Riley Watson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Odie and Fannie Boles; and brother, Dale Boles.

Daniel Bruce Bostrom

Daniel Bruce Bostrom, 64, of Gun Barrel City passed away on October 3, 2010.

Bostrom was born on October 26, 1945 in Evanston, Illinois.

Previously of Kaufman, Mr. Bostrom had resided in Gun Barrel City for the last four years.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and retired from the City of Dallas in 2003.

Mr. Bostrom was the sole proprietor of Bostrom Energy Check from 2003-2010.

A graduate of Evanston Township High School he attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Bostrom.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Bostrom, Gun Barrel City; two sons, David Bostrom of Garland and Randal Whitaker of Caddo Mills, TX; two daughters, Amy Whitaker of Terrell, TX and Emily Evans of Mabank, TX; his mother Alice Tetzlaff of Sarasota, FL; a sister, Susan Cohen of Grants Pass, OR; three brothers, Bill Tetzlaff, John Tetzlaff and Robert Tetzlaff; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of extended family and friends.

Services were held at the family’s residence on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 2 p.m.

Arrangements were under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home.

Billy Reagan Stockman

Gun Barrel City — Billy Reagan Stockman was born February25, 1924 in Tool,  Texas to Vema and A.V. Stockman, and passed away at his residence in the Aley Community on January 31, 2010 at the age of 86.

Billy was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country in the Rhineland Campaign from 1944 – 1946. After returning to the United States, he married Ivie Gene Henderson on December 3, 1949, and together they had four children, Vicky, Joyce, Reagan and Lisa. He worked for Vought Corporation for 27 years and retired in 1984.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ivie Gene Stockman of the Aley Community. He is also survived by his daughter Vicky Killian and husband, Donny of Mabank, and one brother, Charles Stockman of Dallas.

Billy is survived by his six grandchildren, Chrystal Cole of Kemp, Garrett Stockman of College Station, Tyler Stockman of Mabank and Kaleb Ashton of Mabank. He is also survived by three great grandchildren, Justin Cole, Brook Cole and Devin Killian, plus several nieces, nephews and friends. His is survived by his very special nephew, Terry Gene Henderson, who assisted Ivie Gene with his care for many years.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Try Stockman and Ruth Stockman. He was also preceded in death by his children Joyce Stockman-Conditt and Reagan dale Stockman.

Billy was a long time resident of the Aley Community and loved his family and neighbors. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle, and was known to make friends with any stray dog that found its way to his porch. He treated others as he wanted to be treated himself, and he knew Jesus Christ as his Lord. Poor health took Billy away from some of the things he loved doing, but he was cared for well by his wife Ivie Gene for the past 10+ years.

A funeral service was held at 10:00am on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home. The family received friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment followed at King Cemetery.

Harold Cheslie Heard, Sr.

Harold Cheslie Heard, Sr. born December 30,1939 to Thelbert Cheslie and Gertrude Ethel Heard of Teaneck, New Jersey; passed away on April 17, 2010 at his home in Kemp,  Texas.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Esther R. Heard. His five children, Sherri, and husband, Greg Heinzman, Harold Cheslie “Hal” Jr., and wife, Sindy Heard, Kathleen “Kathy” Heard, Helen Heard and James Heard; grandchildren, Amber and husband, Cameron Swanson, Heather Hebel, Dalton “Amos “Hebel, Sara Heinzman, Leah Heinzman, Victoria Heard and Alexander Heard. He has 2 great grandchildren, Hayden Adam Swanson, and Baby Atkins due October 29. Brothers, Kenney Heard and wife, Dana, Johnny Heard and wife, Linnie, Sisters, Lurleen Strange and husband, Gene and Margaret Walker, and husband, Larry.

His parents and brother, Billy Heard, preceded him in death. Harold was a minister and missionary for 32 years and spent 13 years in the mission field, traveling to Chile, Belize, Guatemala and Mexico. Services were held on April 24, 2010 at Phalba Independent Gospel Church in Phalba, TX with burial following at King Cemetery in Kemp, under the direction of Moorhead Epps Funeral Home of Gun Barrel City.

Brandy Lynn Cole Wilson

Graveside services for Brandy Lynn Cole Wilson, 34, of Canton, TX, were held at 2 pm March 17, 2010 at Haven of Memories, under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.

She passed away March 15, 2010 in Bedford, TX.

Ms. Wilson was born Sept. 14, 1975 in Tyler to Thomas Eugene and Glenda May Nabors Cole.

She was a Christian by faith and a member of the First Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City. Brandy was preceded in death by her mother, Glenda May Thrasher in 2002.

She is survived by daughters,  Taylor Thrasher of Mabank and Natalie Wilson of Mabank; her father, Thomas E. Cole of Canton; brother, Thomas Frank Cole of Nolanville; stepfather & mother, Lloyd & Kathy Thrasher of Mabank and grandparents, Rosemary & Tommy Cole of Canton.

Family received friends Tuesday 6 pm to 8 pm at the funeral home.

David Wayne Lowry

Funeral services for David Wayne Lowry, 42, of Eustace, were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the First Assembly of God Church of Eustace. Officiates were Rev. Paul Whitaker, Rev. Donald Thomas, and Rev. Dewain Mixon. Interment followed at Chinquapin Cemetery, Athens.

He passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2010 in Tyler.

David was born October 31, 1967 in Athens,  Texas to David A. and Olevia Jean Mixon Lowry. He lived in Eustace most of his life and graduated from Eustace High School in 1986. David was a member of the House of Mercy Covenant Church in Athens. He loved to hunt, fish, and do anything outdoors.

He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Rev. Hubert and Amy Lowry; maternal grandparents, G.C. and Kodene Mixon; and uncle, Hubert Lowry.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Lowry of Eustace; parents, David & Olevia Lowry of Eustace; sons, Kagan and Colten Lowry of Gun Barrel City; step-children, Sara Acevedo of Eustace, Marshalla Padgett of Eustace, and Curtis Thomas of Dimmitt; sister, Christi Ridgle and husband Jeff of Eustace; brother, John Lowry and wife Lacey of Athens; aunts and uncles, Dewaine and Trina Mixon, Allie Bridger, James & Grace Cook, Dan and Christey Lowry, Jessie and Cherry Lowry; nieces and nephews, Mackenzie Ridgle, Autymn Ridgle, Mackella Ridgle, Jonathan Ridgle, Krysta Lowry, Molly Lowry, and Weston Lowry.

The family received friends at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, September 21, 2010.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the professionals at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home of Athens.

Collin S. "Tre" Todd III & James Earl "Jet" Todd

Memorial services were held Saturday, October 30, 2010, at Tomlinson Funeral Chapel, Seven Points,  Texas for Collin S."Tre" Todd III & James Earl "Jet" Todd of Gun Barrel City. The twin boys were born October 26, 2010 and died in Athens October 26, 2010.

Surviving are mother, Alia Creegan; father, Collin Todd Jr; two brothers, Maxx Creegan and Layne Creegan; grandparents, Jacqueline & James Upright; grandfather, Collin S. Todd Sr; grandmother, Jeannette Todd; two great-grandparents, Charles & Karen Ford, Sam & Peggy Mayo; great-grandmother Millie Flanagan.

LaVerne Wheeler

Services for LaVerne Wheeler, 84, Athens are scheduled for 2:00 . Saturday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eric Graham and Billy Wheeler officiating.

Burial will follow in Goshen Cemetery, Eustace.

Mrs. Wheeler died March 10, 2010 in Athens.

She was born December 11, 1925 in Henderson County to the late Albert D. and Irene Dixon Richardson and was a lifelong resident of the county. She was employed more than 20 years at Tres’ Bon Manufacturing in Eustace and was a member of First Baptist Church in Eustace.

Mrs. Wheeler was preceded in death by her husband I. W. “Boots” Wheeler and a brother Derwood Richardson.

Survivors include sons Dwayne K. Wheeler, Palmdale, Ca.; William “Billy” Wheeler and wife Charlotte, Athens; daughters Helen Henderson and husband Allan, Ally; Nancy Rhea and husband Ricky, Athens; 16 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Allon Henderson, Jr., Tony Smith, Jason Dixon, Rusty Baker, Mike Wheeler, Jason Rhea.

Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Rhea, Jeffrey Rhea, John Goebel.

Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 P.M. Friday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
