Ruth Louise Taylor
Born in Denton, TX on January 8, 1915
Departed on July 15, 2003 and resided in Kerrville, TX

Service Date: Monday, July 21, 2003
Service Location: Garden of Memories

Ruth Louise  Taylor was the first of 4 daughters born on January 8, 1915, in Denton,  Texas, to Guy Leonard  Taylor and Carrie Lee Taylor.

She graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1960, and began a 23-year teaching career, for a short time in the Valley and then later in San Antonio. She taught 3rd grade at Columbia Heights Elementary School in the Harlandale School District. Summer vacations were spent in Kerrville with her mother, to whom she was devoted. Ruth enjoyed travel, and trips to Hawaii and Europe were special highlights.

She belonged to an exercise club, and her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, and playing the piano. Our aunt never married, but she loved being with her nieces and nephews, and taking them on short trips and swimming outings. At holiday time each year, our family looked forward to her popular pecan cheese logs. Ruth loved her church family and looked forward to every Sunday. Over the years she was a member of Manor Baptist Church and Castle Hills First Baptist Church in San Antonio, and Grace Bible Chapel in Kerrville. She really enjoyed the summer camp church meetings in Kerrville each year.

An aneurysm forced Ruth to retire from teaching in 1983, and she lived for a while with her mother. Later she moved into her sister Joan's home in San Antonio, where she resided for about 4 years. As her health further declined, she moved to Trinity Care Center in late 1992, and later moved to Harvest Care Center in Castroville in Spring of 2003.

Her last years in the nursing home were brightened by Grace Wade, who became her dear friend. Grace was the Activities Director at Trinity Care Center, and she did so many things for Ruth for 6 or 7 years. Grace took Ruth out to dinner on many occasions, and helped her with personal care needs above and beyond the call of duty. Her devotion to Ruth continued after moving out of state, and our family is so grateful to her.

Ruth suddenly became ill on July 10, and she passed away in Metropolitan Methodist Hospital on July 15, 2003. Our family very much appreciates the kind and compassionate care that she received from the doctors and nurses at Metropolitan.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21, at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Kerrville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
