Mr. Garcia
Anselmo “Smiley” Garcia, 85, of Beeville, died on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at Victoria Warm Springs Hospital in Victoria.
He was born in Los Olmos Community on Feb. 4, 1922, to Concepcion Gomez and Anselmo Garcia Sr. He was retired from Hunt Auto Company after 34 years and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Celia Gomez Garcia; and one son, Jose Luis Garcia.
Survivors include five daughters, Gloria (Joe) Perez and Sandra Garcia, both of Beeville, Yolanda (Augustine) Garcia and Belinda (Mario) Benavidez, both of Goliad, and Sylvia Nieto of Taft; nine sons, Anselmo Garcia Jr. and Ruben Garcia, both of Beeville, Benito (Victoria) Garcia of Victoria, David (Marina) Garcia and Noe (Lillie) Garcia, both of San Antonio, Israel (Diana) Garcia of Fort Worth, Willie (Alicia) Garcia of  Louisiana, Rene (Debbie) Garcia of Phoenix, Ariz., and Alfredo (Simona) Garcia of Brenham; 37 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Rev. Flover Osorio officiating. Interment will follow at San Pedro Cemetery in the Clareville Community.
Pallbearers will be Augustine Garcia Jr., Abel Garcia, Caye Nieto, Jose Luis Garcia, Benito Garcia Jr., Willie Garcia and Israel Garcia Jr.

Mr. Kempf
Christopher Douglas Kempf, 30, of Beeville, died on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007.
He was born on Nov. 1, 1976, in Peru, Ind., to Dolores Meakins. He graduated from A.C.  Jones High School in 1995 and was attending the LVN program at Coastal Bend College. He was employed with TDCJ McConnell Unit for eight years and was a member of St. James Catholic Church.
Survivors in Beeville include his mother, Dolores Meakins; his father, Robert A. Meakins; one daughter, Raeanna Kempf; one son, Christian Kempf; and one brother, Joshua D. Meakins. He is also survived by two sisters, Tammie L. Salazar and Jessica L. Meakins, both of Corpus Christi; grandparents, Bob and Lila Devres of San Antonio; and numerous aunts, uncles, and nephews.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at Galloway & Sons Chapel with a rosary recited there at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Interment followed at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2.
Pallbearers were Shane McGovran, Rick Tamez, Brian James, OJ Moreno, Rocky DeLuna and Ernesto DeLuna Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Jason Hinds and Bill Yates.

Mrs. Lopez
Birdie Valdez Lopez, 99, of George West, died on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007.
She was born April 3, 1908, in Floresville, to Monica Cano and Casiano Valdez. She was a member of St. George Catholic Church in George West. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Lopez; one daughter, Guadalupe DeLeon; and two sons, Joaquin and Frank Lopez.
Survivors include four sons, Manuel Lopez and wife Felipa of San Antonio, Pablo Lopez and wife Margaret of Levelland, and Martin and Clemente Lopez, both of George West; four daughters, Margarita Chapa, Juanita Lopez, and Francisca Rodriguez, all of George West, and Andrea Reyes of Beeville; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and her caregiver, Olga Diaz of George West.
Visitation was held on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West, with a rosary recited there at 7:30 that evening. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. George Catholic Church in George West with Father Joseph Olikkara officiating. Interment followed at George West Cemetery.

Mrs. Loya
Clara Villarreal Loya, 77, of Beeville, died on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007.
She was born in Beeville on Dec. 15, 1929, to Rose Flores and Guillermo Villarreal. She worked for Dr. Braly for 38 years and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Guillermo and Rose Villarreal; her husband, Reynaldo Loya; and one brother, Guillermo Villarreal Jr.
Survivors include two daughters, Yolanda Castillo and husband Andres of Beeville and Diana Ponce and husband Earl of Conroe; one son, Joe Ray Loya and wife Ofelia of Beeville; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Angelica Alvarado of Beeville and Rosie Reyna of Conroe; and two brothers, Salome Villarreal of Port Lavaca and Portfirio Villarreal and wife Vicenta of Phoenix, Ariz.
Visitation was held from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at Angelus Funeral Home with a rosary recited there at 7:30 that evening. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Eddie Garcia officiating. Interment followed at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2.
Pallbearers were Larry Castillo, David Ybanez Jr., Joe Ray Loya Jr., Chris Ponce, Ben Villarreal, James Reyna, Jimmy Stewart and Eulalio Alvarado.

Mr. Moreno
Pedro Moreno, 64, of Beeville, died on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at Audie Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio.
He was born on Nov. 30, 1942, in Beeville, to Flora Maldonado and Amado Moreno. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include two daughters, Lillian Moreno of Needville and Crystal Moreno of Beeville; one son, Pedro Moreno Jr. of Beeville, two sisters, Juanita Campos of Beeville and Yolanda (Martin) Flores of Dallas; three brothers, Gregorio (Beda) Moreno and Amado Moreno Jr., both of Alvarado, and Juan Manuel Moreno of Beeville; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio on Friday.
Pallbearers will be Pedro Moreno, Raven D. Moreno, Michael R. DeLello, Mikeal R. Rem, Rick Martinez and Jose Luis Garza. Honorary pallbearer will be Anthony Moreno.

Mr. Pavlicek
Laddie Jim “Shorty” Pavlicek, 92, died at his residence in Papalote on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007.
He was born Nov. 30, 1914, in Edroy. He served in the medic unit of the U.S. Air Force during World War II, serving in China, Burma and India. He worked for Plymouth Oil Company in Sinton, and retired from NAS Chase Field in Beeville.
He married Miriam Webb on July 10, 1943 in Sinton. They resided in Papalote for 60 years. He helped to start the Papalote Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be private.
Arrangements were entrusted to Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Service Inc. in Corpus Christi.

Mr. Sanchez
Pablo G. Sanchez Jr., 60, of Beeville, died on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007.
He was born on March 14, 1947, in Mathis to Concepcion Gonzalez and Pablo G. Sanchez Sr. He married Mary M. Cavasos in Beeville on Dec. 9, 1982. He was a driller for CC Forbes and Basic. He was a Christian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Concepcion and Pablo G. Sanchez Sr.; and one brother Domingo Sanchez.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Sanchez of Beeville; five children, Pablo G. Sanchez III, Connie Sanchez and Mickie Ochoa, all of Beeville, Lucy Sanchez of Corpus Christi, and Mario Sanchez of Houston; six grandchildren, Nadine Sanchez, Dominick and Brandon Aleman, Gil Arizmendi, Gavin and Gage Ochoa; and one brother, Benjamin Sanchez of Beeville.
Visitation was held from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Angelus Funeral Home, with a prayer service held there at 7 p.m. Funeral services were to be held there at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) with Rev. Doyle Barnett and Rev. Pendley officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Victory Cemetery #2.
Pallbearers will be Connie Sanchez, Pablo Sanchez III, Helen Cantu, Juan Suniga, Benny Carabajal, and Gabriel Gonzales.

Ebrom
Louis Reagan Ebrom, 32, died Sunday, June 2, 2002.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home chapel. Rosary will be held tonight (Wednesday) at 7:30 at the same location. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father W.T. Philips officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Edgar Watts, Dino Casella, Kenneth Booth Jr., Lance and Jason Kotara and Eddie Puente.
Mr. Ebrom was born Dec. 5, 1969, in Beeville to Louis Jr. and Joyce (Booth) Ebrom. He graduated from A.C.  Jones High School in 1988 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years. He earned his associate’s degree in 1995 and was employed as a computer programmer. He married Elizabeth Puente in Beeville on Jan. 22, 2002. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ebrom of Kyle; a son, Louis Reagan Ebrom Jr. of Kyle; his parents, Joyce and Louis Ebrom of Beeville; two sisters, Diane Webb of Austin and Kathleen Marie Patton of Beeville; and several nieces and nephews.

Joens
Joyce Evelyn Joens died Friday, May 24, 2002, in Gladewater in a single-car accident.
She was the mother of Glenda Zimmer, formerly of Beeville.
Mrs. Joens was born Oct. 13, 1939, in Perry, Iowa. After marrying Glenn Joens in June 1958, the couple settled in  Jefferson, Iowa, where they raised their two daughters. Mrs. Joens volunteered as a Camp Fire leader for many years. She worked at Blaess Shoe Store and then filled the role of office manager in her husband’s industrial machine sales business. During her life in  Jefferson she was also a member of the Professional Business Women’s Association and the First United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, puzzles, card and board games, gardening and collecting.
In her later years, she spent time with her grandchildren, living in close proximity to one group or the other for the last 13 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of  White Oak, where she had lived for the last two years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Elmer and Ethel Mae Roberts, and two children, Tamela Louween Joens and Kirk Troy Joens.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Glenda and Matt Zimmer of Eugene, Ore., and Sebina and Greg Johns of  White Oak; eight grandchildren, Jennifer and Matthew Zimmer of Houston, Cody and Amber Zimmer of Eugene, Ore., and Jasmine, Moriah, Serenity and Hosanna Johns of  White Oak; one great-grandchild, Nicholas Zimmer of Houston; four brothers and sisters, Wilford Roberts of Perry, Iowa, Janet  Schmidt of Loudon, Tenn., Gerald Roberts of Delta,  Colo., and Delores Peterson of Boxholm, Iowa; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, church members and friends.

John W. “Buddy” Morrison, 71, of Tuleta died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, after a long illness.
Visitation will be held all day Thursday at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home chapel. Funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the same location with the Rev. J.W. Stevens officiating. Burial with Masonic graveside services will follow at the Mineral Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Christy, Chance, Holly, C.D., Korena and Raysha Morrison, Curtis Prospech, Mandy, Sam and Bea Floyd and Katie Marthiljohni. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Adkins, Dudie Morrell, Marvin Voss, F.V. Wilburn, Carl Ogle, Don Vickery, G.A. Shinn, Tommy Miller and A.L. Kanak. Special honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Wroten and Joe Larakers.
Special music will be provided by pianist Polly Morrison and vocalist Lynn Broadway.
Mr. Morrison was born March 22, 1931, to Willie E. and Cammie (Butler) Morrison. He married Nadine Angell on Nov. 21, 1950. The couple had resided in Tuleta since 1988. Mr. Morrison was a member of First Baptist Church of Tuleta, the Pettus/Tuleta Fire Department and Masonic Lodge 261 of Beeville.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine Angell Morrison of Tuleta; two sons, Larry Neal Morrison and wife Liz of Corpus Christi and Johnny Morrison and wife Gayle of Yorktown; his grandchildren, Christy Morrison of Mathis, Holly Lynn Morrison and Curtis Prospech of Corpus Christi and C.D., Korena Kay and Raysha Marie Morrison, all of Yorktown; his three step-granddaughters, Mandy, Samantha and Elizabeth Floyd of Corpus Christi; three great-grandchildren, Chance Mann and Blaine Austin Morrison of Mathis and Gena Prospech of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Mary Minnigh of Carthage and Billie Brooks of Sugar Land; one brother, Morris Ray Morrison and wife Carol of Concan; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ruth Thelma Perez, 58, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, in San Antonio.
Visitation was held Tuesday at Angelus Funeral Home chapel. Rosary was recited that night at 7 o’clock at the same location. Funeral Mass was celebrated today (Wednesday) at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial followed in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2. Pallbearers were Robert A. Luna Sr., R. Alex Luna, Michael Adrian Luna, Joseph Bernal, Robert Cantu and George Bernal.
Mrs. Perez was born July 16, 1943 to Rafael and Adela (Perez) Cantu in Raymondville. She was a resident of San Antonio, a homemaker and a member of the Catholic church.
She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers, John Charles Cantu and Adolfo Cantu.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann Luna of San Antonio; four sisters, Elsie Boren of Portland and Martha Chamberlain, Hazel Bernal and Nancy Cristan, all of Beeville; four brothers, Jesse E. Cantu and Joe A. Cantu, both of Beeville, Fred D. Cantu of San Antonio and Americo R. Cantu of Laredo; her mother, Adela Perez Cantu of Beeville; and three grandchildren, Robert Alexander, Michael Adrian and Jennifer A. Luna.
