Morgan
Maria M. “Maggie” Chavarria Morgan, 21, died Sunday, March 6, 2005, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited tonight (Wednesday) at 7 p.m. at the same location. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Patrick Donohoe officiating. Special music will be provided by Mariachi Amistad. Burial will follow in Clareville’s San Pedro Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jessie Delgado, Joey, Daniel and Marky Perez, Raymond Alcorta and Jaime Cardenas.
Mrs. Morgan was born in Beeville on Sept. 9, 1983, to Alfredo Chavarria Jr. and Norma Perez. She was employed as a cashier at the Rio 6 Cinema and belonged to St. Joseph’s.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Guadalupe and Reyes Cuellar, her grandfather, Demecio Perez, and an uncle, Johnny Chavarria.
Survivors include her husband and son, Cody Morgan and Cody Morgan Jr.; her father, Alfredo Chavarria Jr.; her mother, Norma Perez; her paternal grandparents, Alfredo Sr. and Maria Chavarria; her maternal grandmother, Maria Magdalena Perez; three sisters, Melissa and Marisol Herrera and Precious Norma Rae Chapa; three brothers, Lupito Altamirano, Jose Ramos and Mark Mata, all of Beeville; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and a nephew.

Pumarejo
Maria Luisa “Wicha” Pumarejo, 94, died Sunday, March 6, 2005.
She was born in Beeville to Juan and Concepcion Hernandez Gamez on April 30, 1910. Mrs. Pumarejo was a member of several organizations such as the Guadalupanas for the past 50 years, Cursillistas, American Red Cross, Bee Community Action Center, Esperanza Organization, Democrat Party and a volunteer for the March of Dimes.
Mrs. Pumarejo was preceded in death by her husband, Faustino Pumarejo Sr., three sisters, Ofelia Gamez, Andrea Garza and Soveida Perez, and six brothers, Juan, Francisco, Jimmy, Doroteo, Reynaldo and Ramon H. Gamez.
Mrs. Pumarejo is survived by three daughters, Olga (Antonio) Paredez of San Antonio; Lydia Rincon of Beeville and Archie (Homer) Estrada of Floresville; one son, Faustino (Anita) Pumarejo Jr. of Houston; one stepson, Roberto (Alicia) Pumarejo of Mercedes; 22 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 40 great-great-grandchildren.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) at St. James Catholic Church. Burial followed at Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Rene Antonio and Robert Lee Paredez, Mario and Jaime Rincon, Jerome D. and Christopher N. Estrada.

Vasquez
Amalia M. Vasquez, 74, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2005, in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.
She was born in Zacatecas, Mexico, on July 10, 1930. Mrs. Vasquez was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Federico Vasquez, and her sons, Epifanio and Matilde Vasquez.
Survivors include her daughters, Gloria Vasquez and husband Ricardo, Lucia Salgado and husband Alejandro, Lupita Alejandro and husband Poncho and Merejilda Rodriguez and husband Pepe; her sons, Inocencio Vasquez and wife Olga, Amadeo Vasquez and wife Amalia and Patricio Vasquez and wife Ariceli; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 4, at La Paz Funeral Home, Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.

Mrs. Astasauskas
Lillie Jennettie Voss Astasauskas, 93, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006.
Visitation was scheduled Friday from 6-9 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home. Rosary was to be recited Friday at 7 p.m. there. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Donohoe officiating. Burial will follow at San Domingo Cemetery in Normanna. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Mrs. Astasauskas was born in Normanna on Nov. 24, 1912, to the late Ollie Roberts and August Voss. She married Edward A. Astasauskas on Feb. 27, 1964, in San Antonio. She resided in Normanna and was a housewife and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles R. Tucker and Edward A. Astasauskas, who died on April 2, 2003; a son, Col. Charles E. Tucker; a son-in-law, Robert T. Williams; and sisters, Annie Staton and Hilda Shaw.
She is survived by daughters, Joyce Katherine  Johnson and husband Vernon of Corpus Christi and Mary Cecelia Williams of Kingsbury; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ola Pahmeyer, Lorene Perkins and Mary Pearce, all of Normanna; three brothers, Carl Voss of Bandera, Marvin Voss of Normanna and Alfred Voss of Medina.

Mrs. Appell
Frances Alleene Appell, 89, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006.
She was born on July 3, 1916 in Alice. She was a homemaker and a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, as well as a member of the Altar Guild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Appell, in December of 2000, her parents, David Edward and Frances (Wilson) Lauderback, and six siblings.
She is survived by three children, Linda Appell Spires and husband Bryan of Georgetown, William Henry Appell Jr. and wife Jill of Rockport and R. Michael Appell and wife Sherry of George West; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, James Lauderback of  Oklahoma; numerous nieces and one nephew.
Services will be held today (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in George West. Interment will follow at George West Cemetery.
Donations may be made in her memory to The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Ms. Jostes
After battling cancer for four years with courage and dignity, Maureen Elizabeth Jostes of Tynan,  Texas, passed away on April 5, 2006 and is now at peace with God.
Maureen was born in Mathis,  Texas to Frank and Eunice Hornung Jostes on November 1, 1954. She attended school in Skidmore,  Texas and graduated from Skidmore-Tynan High School in 1973. After graduation she pursued a degree in pharmacy and graduated from the University of  Texas Pharmacy School in 1978. Maureen was a practicing pharmacist in San Antonio from 1978-2000 at University and Nix Hospitals and Eckerd Drugs; from 2000 to 2002 she worked in Mathis, Orange Grove, and Woodsboro.
She is preceded in death by her father Frank Jostes in September of 2000.
Survivors include her mother Eunice Jostes of Tynan,  Texas, sister and brother-in-law Betty and Wes  Jones of Fair Oaks Ranch,  Texas, Special “Sister” Eva Brown of Corpus Christi,  Texas and numerous other family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 7, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Beeville,  Texas. Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at 3 p.m. at The First United Methodist Church in Mathis,  Texas and interment will be at Three Rivers Cemetery in Three Rivers,  Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

Mr. Rios
Anselmo R. Rios, 81, of Beeville died on Saturday, April 1, 2006.
He was born on March 21, 1925, in Floresville to Catarino and Maria Rodriguez Rios. On April 14, 1944, he married Estela Talamantez Rios in Floresville. He was retired from Asarco steel plant after 25 years of employment as a metal stripper.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Estela Talamantez Rios of Beeville; children, Alfred Rios Sr. and wife Elida of Houston, John Rios Sr. and wife Mary of Harlingen and Lily Morales and husband David of San Antonio; grandchildren, Monica Woodward and husband Hugh, Melissa Brow and husband Donny, Alfred Rios Jr. and wife Pam, all of Houston, John Rios Jr. of Harlingen, David Anthony Morales and Vanessa Morales of San Antonio; and five great-grandchildren, all of Houston.
Visitation was held on Monday, April 3, from 4 to 9 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Roy Akers -Zizik Kearns Funeral Chapels in San Antonio. Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, April 4, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, San Antonio. Interment followed at San Fernando Cemetery No. 3 in San Antonio.
Arrangements were under the direction of Roy Akers-Zizik Kearns Funeral Chapels, San Antonio.

Mrs. Sigle
Mildred Elizabeth Lee Sigle of Robstown, 89, died on Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at her home.
She was born on Nov. 13, 1916, in Morgan to William T. and Mary Louise Welch Lee. She married Albert R. Sigle on Feb. 8, 1933, in  Oklahoma. She was a housewife and homemaker and attended the Highway 44 Church of Christ in Robstown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert R. Sigle; three infant children and her son-in-law, Charles E. Wright.
She is survived by her daughter, Helen D. Wright of Beeville; her granddaughters, Glenda (Dr. Ridge) Hammons and Diane (Hank) Koch; her grandson, John (Sonia) Wright; five great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Friday from 12 to 7 p.m. in Sawyer-George Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted today (Saturday) at 2 p.m. in the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with minister Larry Cash officiating. Interment will follow in Robstown Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Zack Buckingham, Hank Koch, Dr. Ridge Hammons, Will Hammons, Doug Wilks and Wayne Wilks. Honorary pallbearers will be John Wright, Gordon Bickham and Tommy Lee.
Arrangements were by Sawyer-George Funeral Home, Corpus Christi.

Mr. Atterberry
Henry J. Atterberry, 83, died on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, in Gun Barrel City.
He was born on April 2, 1923, in Jenks, Okla., to Michael and Bess Pearson Atterberry. He moved to the lake area from Skidmore in 1999. He was retired from the U.S. Navy. Mr. Atterberry married Delta Boswell in Corpus Christi.
Survivors include his wife, Delta Boswell Atterberry; four daughters, Barbara Ann Curtis of Oregon, Deborah Deckard of Bowling Green, Ky., Edyie Kay Osborn of Tulsa, Okla., and Johnnie Tulla of Gun Barrel City; two sons, Bruce Atterberry and Dennis Atterberry of Oregon; one sister, Jewel Lanoy of Fort Smith, Ark.; and many grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Tomlinson Funeral Home in Seven Points. Funeral services were held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 9 a.m. on Friday with Brother Jim Shafer officiating.
Services were under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home in Seven Points.

Mr. Encinia
Manuel Encinia, 85, of Mathis died on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, in a Corpus Christi hospital.
He was born on Jan. 11, 1921, in San Patricio to Juanita Luna and Guadalupe Encinia. He was a retired laborer and a Catholic.
Survivors include seven daughters, Manuela (Marcos) Pena of Menard, Jesusa Torres of Houston, and San Juanita (Juan) Vela, Martina Vargas, Ramona Encinia, Maria Dominga Vargas and Petra Encinia, all of Mathis; four sons, Pedro (Juanita) Encinia of Needville, and Guadalupe Encinia, Erineo (Michelle) Encinia and Rogelio (Melinda) Olivo, all of Mathis; two sisters, Erinea Garza and Flora Vera, both of Mathis; three brothers, Francisco and Domingo Encinia, both of Mathis, and Jose Encinia of Taft; 44 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the American Legion Hall in Mathis. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mathis. Interment followed at Descano Eterno Cemetery #2 in Mathis.
Pallbearers were Adam Vallejo, Martin Pena, Erineo and Mario Encinia, Jerry Vargas and Jimmy Encinia.
