Stephens
Wesley Payton Stephens Sr., 76, of Goliad died Sunday, June 9, 2002.
The family received friends at Colonial Funeral Home chapel in Goliad Tuesday from 7-8 p.m. Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Goliad with the Rev. Bill Stockton officiating. military and Masonic graveside services followed at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
Mr. Stephens was born Aug. 3, 1925, in Plumville, Pa., to the Rev. George Stephens and Amy Cylmo Stephens. He was an aeronautical draftsman/designer and retired from the  Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was a Mason and a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Martha M. Stephens.
He is survived by his wife, Ada Sue Stephens of Goliad; three daughters, Margaret Stephens of California, Susan (Chris) Nelson of Goliad and Jean Coley of San Antonio; three sons, James W. (Bette) Stephens of Graceville, Fla., Wesley Stephens Jr. of Stuttgart, Germany, and Richard Stephens of Goliad; four stepsons, Bill (Kathy) Stockton of Beeville, Tom (Vicky) Stockton of Goliad, Bob (Peggy) Stockton of Houston and Shelby (Faye) Stockton of Port Lavaca; a brother, James C. Stephens of Pittsburgh, Pa.; nine grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; and 25 step-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church building fund in Goliad.
Arrangements were handled by Colonial Funeral Home, Goliad.

Whitworth
William Boyd “Bill” Whitworth Jr., 57, of Matagorda died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at  Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church. The Rev. Harley Savage, vicar of Christ Episcopal Church, and the Rev. Charlie Parker, pastor of First United Methodist Church, Palacios, will officiate. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville.
Pallbearers will be Paul Smith, Oscar Rodriguez, Jim Bednorz, Tod Van Way, Forrest Dunn and Danny Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be David Durham, Don Simons, Elmer Latham, Mervin Davis, Terry Russ, Bill Stallings, Fred Martindale, Bevil Carter, Racheal Puryear, Tami Williamson, Ralph Galvan, Joe Treviño and Robert Garcia.
Mr. Whitworth was born April 17, 1945, in Beeville to the late William Boyd and Martha Ann (Jones) Whitworth. He was a 1963 graduate of George West High School and received his bachelor’s degree in 1968 and master’s degree in 1972 from Sam Houston State University and his mid-management certification and superintendent’s certification from the University of Houston.
He devoted 31 years of his life to students and education, the last three as superintendent of Matagorda Independent School District. He was active in the community and a member of Christ Episcopal Church, where he was senior warden.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Whitworth of Matagorda; a son, Brad Whitworth of George West; a sister, Barbara Bednorz of George West; two nieces; and one nephew.
Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, Matagorda.
Arrangements were handled by  Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Finke
Emma May Finke, 84, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004.
Visitation was to be held Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Galloway and Sons chapel and today (Saturday) and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. both days. The family will be present on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will take place Monday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Greg Traylor officiating. Special music will be provided by organist Mary Ellen Thoms and vocalists Doug and Linda Burton. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Dewayne Bowman Jr., Bobby Stuart, Ellis Ray McKinney, Johnny Hunter, Ron Coldeway and Bill Shroyer.
Mrs. Finke was born in Skidmore on Oct. 17, 1919, to John Emmett and Myrtle Bell (Vogt) Rice. She married Monroe P. Finke on Jan. 29, 1940, in Skidmore. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a longtime Beeville resident.
Known to many as “Ms. Emma,” Mrs. Finke was a well-known volunteer in the community. She served as manager of the Bee County Coliseum for 20 years and was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9170 Ladies Auxiliary, the American Legion Unit 274 Ladies Auxiliary and the Beeville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. The Beeville Housing Authority’s Emma Finke Villa apartments were named in her honor. She was the founder of the local hospital’s volunteer group, then called the Pink Ladies Auxiliary. Every year she helped organize the Beeville Garden Club’s Veterans Day program at the courthouse.
At the time of her death, she was also a member of the following organizations: CofC Parade Committee, Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville Volunteers, Beeville Country Club, South  Texas Trailriders and CofC Ambassadors.
In the past, she was the CofC’s Fall Fest chairman, a Bee County Western Week director, a member of the Beeville Women’s Bowling Association, CofC parade grand marshal, CofC citizen of the year (1977) and Mardi Gras queen. She belonged to the Bee County Centennial Committee, the Bee County Sesquicentennial Committee, Soroptimist Club, Beeville Navy League, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross and more.
Mrs. Finke was such an ubiquitous volunteer, it is sure there were many more organizations and committees she belonged to that are not mentioned here.
She was employed for a short time as a doctor’s assistant, working for Doctors Lawrence Reagan, L.W. Kirkland, John L. Hester and O.C. Schroeder.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died April 17, 1991.
Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Windrup of Needville; a son, Dr. Phillip L. Finke and wife Jeffie of Beeville; three grandchildren, Christian Phillip Finke and wife Cara of Comfort, Shannon Finke Nestler of Beaufort, S.C., and John William Windrup and wife Nebbie of Park City, Utah; eight great-grandchildren, Colton, Gage and Kendall Finke, Mitchell and Allyson Nestler and Alex, Meredith and Emma Windrup; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Flitton
Joline Flitton, 49, died at home in Port Townsend, Wash., on Sunday, April 4, 2004.
She was born in Corpus Christi on Sept. 27, 1954, to Bob and Mary ( White) Fontaine. She graduated from Richard King High School in 1974 and left  Texas the next year. She married Charles N. Flitton in Tampa, Fla., in 1988. They had one son, Chaz.
In addition to her husband and son, Mrs. Flitton is survived by her father and three sisters, Jackie John (and Kenny) of Corpus Christi; Janice Thomas (and Tubby) of Beeville; and Judy Fontaine of Suquamish, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Kitchen Shelter at Fort Worden State Park at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 10.
Arrangements were handled through Kosec Funeral Home, Port Townsend, Wash.

Sanchez
Ascencion Sanchez, 78, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004.
Rosary was recited Thursday at 7 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral services took place Friday at the same location, with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial followed in San Pedro Cemetery, located in the Clareville community.
Pallbearers were James, Jeremy and Abel Sanchez, Rafael and Luis Niño and Juan Ibarra.
Mrs. Sanchez was born in Hondo on May 21, 1925, to Juan and Claudia (Carrasco) Abrigo. She was a housewife and a Catholic.
Survivors include her husband, Santiago S. Sanchez Sr. of Beeville; two daughters, Petra Sanchez McDaniel and husband Garry of Lansing, Mich., and Adelia S. Sanchez and husband Jesse of Houston; three sons, Juan Sanchez and wife Sandra, Santiago Sanchez Jr. and Oscar Sanchez and wife Debra, all of Lansing, Mich.; two brothers, Fernando Abrigo of Ohio and Amado Abrigo of Lansing, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mueller
Willis Schroller Mueller, 78, died Thursday, March 16, 2006. Mueller and her husband operated Mueller's Frosty in Woodsboro from 1972 to 1991.
She was born May 19, 1928, in Pawnee to Frank and Annie Schroller.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; an infant son, Bradley Paul Mueller; one brother, Leo Schroller; and three sisters, Olivia Ellis, Lorene Polozeck and Mary Mae Page.
Survivors include three daughters, Brenda, Barbara and Beverly, all of Houston; three sisters, Annie  Johnson of Karnes City, Leona Smith of McAllen and Janie Metting of Victoria; three grandchildren, Leslie May and Mattison May of Houston and Meredith May of Los Angeles,  Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Eunice Schroller of Corpus Christi.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 17, at Moore Funeral Home in Refugio with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services were conducted at Peace Lutheran Church in Woodsboro on Saturday, March 18, at noon. Interment followed in LaRosa Cemetery in Woodsboro.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peace Lutheran Church in Woodsboro or to the Alzheimer's Association.
Arrangements were handled by Moore Funeral Home, Refugio.

Mr. Ortega
Master Sgt. Pablo E. Ortega, 79, died on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, in a San Antonio hospital.
He was born on Jan. 15, 1927, in Goliad County to Miguel and Sofia Espinoza Ortega. He retired from the  Texas Highway Department, Beeville office, after 35 years of service. Mr. Ortega served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the National Guard. He was an active member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and was a lifetime member of the Holy Name Society. He was also a board member of the W.I.C. Program.
Mr. Ortega was preceded in death by his wife, Amelina R. Ortega; one brother, Edward Ortega; and two sisters, Genoveva Ortega and Eufemia Cano.
Survivors include four daughters, Sofia Ortega (Ruben) Baldez of Victoria, Joanna Ortega Shaw of San Antonio, Rosie (Alejandro) Camacho of Beeville, and Margot Ortega (Joe) Coco of Port Aransas; one uncle, Pedro Amador of Corpus Christi; one aunt, Rosa Cano Hernandez of Beeville; 10 grandchildren, Marvella Rodriguez, Briana Baldez, Roberto Perez, Ruben Andres Baldez, Rebecca Ortega Perez, Victoria Ortega Shaw, Jared Edward Coco, Tyler James Coco, Ryan Andrew Garza and Allie Camacho; and seven great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated there at 2 p.m. Monday. Burial will follow at the Beeville Memorial Park with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be Danny, George, Mike, Omar and Noe Cano, Edward Ortega Jr., John Michael Ortega and Frank C. Moron.

Mr. Rothlisberger
Eugene Rothlisberger, 94, of Beeville died on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007.
He was born on July 2, 1912, in Beeville to Crist L. and Mary Voit Rothlisberger. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. In 1941, he married Ila Elizabeth Richardson in Beeville. He was a lifetime farmer and carpenter and spent many years working with his best friend, Clem Young, in the carpentry business.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his children, Richard and Diana; and his wife, Ila Elizabeth.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 6:30 to 9 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held there at 2 p.m. Monday with Father Patrick Donohoe officiating. Special music will be “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.” Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gary, Allen, Dale, Kenny and Kyle Rothlisberger and Don Havelka. Honorary pallbearers will be John Maples and Clem Young.

Mr. Aguilar
Matias Aguilar, 93, of Tynan died on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
He was born on March 25, 1913, in Mercedes. He was retired from Tynan Co-op gin and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. On May 19, 1956 he married Martina R. Huerta in San Diego.
Mr. Aguilar was preceded in death by his wife, Martina R. Aguilar.
Survivors include one son, Guadalupe Gonzales and wife Irene of Tynan; four grandchildren, Rebecca Gutierrez of Beeville, Rosalinda Martinez of Mathis, Rose Mary Gonzalez of Mission and Guadalupe Gonzales Jr. of Mathis.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Nueva Jerusalem Church in Mathis with Pastor Sammuel Villerreal officiating. Burial followed at Waldheim Cemetery in Tynan.
