Mr. Valdez
Gilbert Valdez, 66, of Odem died on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, in San Antonio.
He was born on Aug. 22, 1941, in Mikaska to Juanita Leos and Santiago Valdez. He married Soila Cadena on July 3, 1965, in Three Rivers. He was employed with Union Pacific Railroad as a manager of truck maintenance and was a member of St. George Catholic Church in George West.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Soila Valdez of Odem; two sons, Michael Valdez of Sinton and Abel Valdez of Houston; one daughter, Cynthia Placha and husband Thomas of the Czech Republic; six grandchildren, Victoria Valdez, Michael Valdez II, Thomas, Katerina, David and Michaela Plachy; two brothers, Robert Valdez and Avelardo Valdez, both of Beeville; and four sisters, Lucy Vanden, Carolina Villafana and Eloise Longoria, all of Fort Worth, and Lupita Sanchez of Beeville.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in George West. A rosary will be recited by Deacon Cris Luna at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. George Catholic Church in George West. Funeral Mass will be held there at 10 a.m. Friday with Father Joseph Olikkara officiating. Interment will follow at St. George Catholic Cemetery in George West.
Pallbearers will be Martin Alaniz, Richard Martinez, Miguel Mejiga, Tony Delgado, James Valdez and Jeremy Vanden.

DeRusse
Joe Henry DeRusse, 51, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002.
Visitation and prayer service were held Sunday at Angelus Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were held Monday morning in that same location with Pastor Luis Bernal officiating. Burial followed in Evangelico Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ruby DeRusse, George B. Estrada, Arturo Lara, Joe Salinas, Luis S. Perez and Adolfo Villarreal.
Mr. DeRusse was born to Jessie R. and Anita (Tapia) DeRusse in Beeville Feb. 16, 1950. He attended Beeville schools and graduated from A.C.  Jones High School in 1968. He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Sam Houston State. He resided in San Antonio and was a technician with Advanced American Telephone there.
He was married to Elsa DeRusse of Georgetown. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Jesse Gabriel DeRusse and Joseph Andrew DeRusse, both of Georgetown; one daughter, Jennifer DeRusse Blacksher of El Paso; two brothers, Dr. Jesse DeRusse Jr. of Beeville and Eddie DeRusse of Austin; one sister, Mary Ann DeRusse Silva of El Paso; and his parents, Jessie R. DeRusse Sr. and Anita Tapia DeRusse of Beeville.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alfredo and Josefa DeRusse and Augustine and Eulalia Gonzales.

Kopplin
Hilbert H. Kopplin, 74, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, in a Victoria hospital.
Visitation was held Sunday afternoon at Galloway and Sons Funeral Chapel in Three Rivers. Prayer service was held Monday night at the Live Oak County Coliseum. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Three Rivers with the Rev. Craig Sturm officiating. Burial followed in Ray Point Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brandon Mills, James Liska, Brady Lee, Jordan Liska, Micah Kopplin, H. Hayden Kopplin, Reagan H. Kopplin, Bryce Favor, Alfred Kopplin Jr., Leslie Kopplin, Wesley Kopplin and Herbert Nesloney. Honorary pallbearers were County Judge Jim Huff, Commissioners Richard Lee, Jimmy Strause and Emilio Garza, Live Oak County Sheriff Larry Busby and Live Oak County officials and employees.
Mr. Kopplin was born in Ray Point Dec. 2, 1927, to Hugo Wilhelm and Anna Katherine (Wieding) Kopplin. He married Barbara Wolff in Pawnee on Sept. 23, 1950. He was Live Oak County commissioner, Pct. 2, for 31 years and a lifelong farmer and rancher. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.
He was honored as Three Rivers Lions Club Citizen of the Year in 1993 and 1994, Fort Worth Press Conservationist of the Year 1966 Comeback Farmer, Outstanding Conservation Farmer by the Live Oak Soil and Water Conservation District in 1990, Friend of 4-H (Live Oak County 4-H program), Future Farmers of America Honorary State Farmer and Chapter Farmer, Honorary Admiral of the State of  Texas Navy, Three Rivers Independent School District trustee, director of Cen-Tex Co-op, Farmers Co-op director and Sunday school teacher at Our Savior Lutheran Church. He was a member of Southwestern &  Texas Cattle Association and Live Oak Pork Producers. He provided exhibit hogs for several 4-H members for showing at Live Oak and surrounding fairs.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Alfred Kopplin.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; three sons, Rocky (Belinda) Kopplin and Randy (Tammy) Kopplin, both of Three Rivers, and Warren Kopplin of Orange Grove; six daughters, Donna (Glen) Mills, Cheryl (Albert) Liska and Tracy (Dustin) Favor, all of Three Rivers, Audrey Kopplin and Nancy (Richard) Lee, both of George West, and Crystal (Jason) Desselle of Poth; 12 grandchildren, Denna (John) Hughes, Julie Liska, Brandon Mills, James Liska, Miranda Kopplin, Brady Lee, Micah Kopplin, Jordan Liska, Hayden Kopplin, Holly Kopplin, Reagan Kopplin and Bryce Favor; two great-grandchildren, Keller and Kooper Hughes; two sisters, Aliska “Dutch” Swenson of Three Rivers and Anna Mae Nesloney of Pawnee; one aunt, Lena Wieding of Pawnee; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hilbert Kopplin Memorial Fund.

Rodriguez
Agueda “Lita” Rodriguez, 86, died Saturday, April 20, 2002.
Rosary was recited Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday afternoon at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Father Romeo Salinas officiating. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Gilbert Herrera, Christopher Cano, John Henry Martinez, John L. Herrera, Paul Henry Rodriguez and Michael Rodriguez.
Mrs. Rodriguez was born Dec. 15, 1915, in Goliad to Santiago and Inez (Alaniz) Borrego. She married Pablo R. Rodriguez on July 4, 1938, in Beeville. She was an Avon representative for more than 45 years and a member of the Catholic church.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Survivors include three daughters, Maria Teresa (John) Pendergraph, Paula I. (Albert)  White and Adelfa (Charles) Chacon, all of Beeville; one son, Jesus (Lupe) Rodriguez of Grand Prairie; one sister, Concepcion Villarreal of Laredo; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Laurel
Victor Laurel, 72, of Pasadena died Sunday, April 21, 2002.
He was born in Beeville on June 16, 1929, to Victor Sr. and Pauline Laurel. He was a barber for 28 years, before retiring from Shell Oil Co.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Alice Laurel of Pasadena; daughters, Velma Brumfield and husband Damond of Liverpool and Laurel Stillwagon and husband Barry of Tucson, Ariz.; sons, Ron Laurel and wife Judi of Tucson, Ariz., Don Laurel and wife Kelly of Seabrook and Leo Laurel and wife Naomi of LaPorte; a sister, Christine Carabajal and husband Rey of San Antonio; a sister-in-law, Rachel Randle and husband Don of Houston; a brother-in-law, Alfredo Gonzales of Guadalajara, Mexico; grandchildren, Michele, Nichole, Derek, Alyson, Stacy, Maryellen, Victoria and Alexander; and a great-granddaughter, Zoe.
At Mr. Laurel’s request, no services were held.
Arrangements were by Grand View Funeral Home of Pasadena.

Valdez
Francisco Apolinar Valdez Sr., 55, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, at his Three Rivers residence.
Visitation was held Tuesday at Galloway and Sons Funeral Chapel in Three Rivers. Rosary will be recited Wednesday evening at 7 o’clock at the same location.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Three Rivers with Father Piotr Gajda officiating. Burial will follow in the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Mr. Valdez was born to Cresencio and Lucia (Cantu) Valdez in Three Rivers on July 23, 1946. He married Guadalupe Cervantes on Oct. 21, 1972, in Beeville. He was a retired Kinsel Ford shop employee and a member of Sacred Heart Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lupe; two sons, Frank A. Valdez Jr. and wife Ernestina of Three Rivers and Jorge David Valdez of San Diego,  Calif.; two daughters, Clari Anne Valdez and Hilda Diane Valdez, both of Corpus Christi; one grandson, Anthony David Valdez of Three Rivers; three brothers, Louis Valdez of Victoria and Gabriel and Danny Valdez, both of Three Rivers; and three sisters, Esperanza Soliz, Beatrice Garza and Consuelo Valdez, all of Three Rivers.

Ball
Helena Arabelle (Lena) McKinney Ball, 76, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003.
Visitation was held on Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Rosary was recited that evening at 7:30 at the same location. Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Lowery Ross officiating. Burial followed in Gussettville Cemetery in Live Oak County.
Pallbearers were Stephen, Justin, Cody, Wesley and John Robert Ball and Justin Bielamowicz.
Mrs. Ball was born on Dec. 30, 1926, in Live Oak County, to William Wiley McKinney and Martha Arabelle (Kidd) McKinney. She married Herbert Ball Sr. on July 26, 1948, in George West. She resided in Berclair and was a homemaker and a Catholic. She was a 4-H leader for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, James, Clem, Howard and Davis McKinney.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert Ball Sr. of Berclair; four sons, Herbert Ball Jr. and wife Mary Beth of Skidmore, Richard Ball and wife Kathy of Goliad, John Ball and wife Virginia of Victoria and Clay Ball and close friend Brenda Wilson of Goliad; four granddaughters, Mary Kay Bielamowicz and Clara, Lauren and Megan Ball; five grandsons, Stephen, Justin, Cody, Wesley and John Robert Ball; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the ALS Research Lou Gehrig Foundation, MDA/ALS Research, 6501 Fannin St., Suite NB 302, Houston,  Texas 77030.

Kennedy
Brystol Danielle Fry Kennedy, 44, died Sunday, May 25, 2003 at the James L. West Center in Fort Worth.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 12, at 6 p.m. at the Christian Worship Center in Bee-ville, with Pastor Walter L. Gilbert officiating.
Mrs. Ken-nedy was born on June 22, 1958, in Oceanside,  Calif. She was a 1976 graduate of Trinity High School in Euless. Her occupations included real estate agent, child care services, school cafeteria manager, substitute teacher and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her father, Duke Fry, and grandparents, H.A. and Allie Ball and Cecil and Carmen Williams.
Survivors include her husband of 26 years, David Kennedy of Mathis (a teacher with the Beeville Independent School District); two sons, Cory Kennedy of Colleyville and Kody Kennedy and wife Allison of Fayetteville, NC; a granddaughter, Caylee; her mother, Patricia Fry; a sister and brother-in-law, Brandi and Kevin Elder; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Brant Fry and Byron and Vicki Fry; and many family members and friends.

Sehlke
Mildred A. Kurtz Sehlke, 79, died Tuesday, June 3, 2003.
Visitation was to be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services will take place today (Saturday) at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Don  Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Joe Linnstaedter, Keith Kurtz and grandsons Brandon Sehlke, Brian Holubec, John Holubec and Garrett Robles.
Mrs. Sehlke was born on Feb. 13, 1924, in Bryan, to Paul and Johanna Gussie (Weise) Kurtz. She married Alvin Sehlke on Dec. 24, 1950, in Beeville. She was retired from the Beeville Independent School District food service department. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alvin Sehlke; a brother, Wilhelm Kurtz; and grandson, Karl Sehlke.
Survivors include a son, Don Sehlke and wife Omega of Dilley; two daughters, Diane Holubec and husband Thomas of Kempner and Charlotte  Johnson and husband Joe Dee of Beeville; four grandsons; a brother, Leonard Kurtz and wife Donna of Floresville; and a sister, Emily Frazier and husband Bill of Calallen.

Marjorie Rylant Petrus, 84, of Skidmore died on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home, with services to be held there on Friday at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.
