Lemuel Allen Field, Sr.
Lemuel Allen Field, Sr., 77, of Camp Wood,  Texas died March 25, 2005 at Uvalde Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
He was born July 10, 1927 in Barksdale,  Texas to Lemuel Marion Field and Thelma L. Stovall Field.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marienne Lockhart Howell and son-in-law, Tim Plueger.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Rebecca Sherman Field of Camp Wood and one sister, Mary Lou Ward and husband Tommy of Camp Wood; five children, Rhonda Baxter of Smithville,  Texas, L. A. Field, Jr. of Camp Wood, Marion Clark and husband Jesse of Snyder, Levi Field of Camp Wood; six grandchildren, Craig Wilson and wife Dory of Millington, Tennessee, Marci Henson of Smithville, Gary Wayne Baxter and wife Jamie of Giddings,  Texas, Laticia Gentry and husband Tony of Snyder,  Texas, Gracie Harrison of Snyder, Daniel Field of Yorktown,  Texas; nine great-grandchildren, Meagan, Logan, Katelyn and Mason Wilson of Millington, Tennessee, Aaron Casper of Smithville, Devin Baxter of Giddings, Destiny, William and Zackary Gentry of Snyder and numerous nieces and nephews.
A member of the First Baptist Church of Camp Wood, L. A. attended services at the Nueces Canyon Church of Christ with his wife Rebecca.
L. A. was known as “Cedar King,” as for many years he supported and raised his family working side by side with his father at Field and Field Cedar Company of Nueces Canyon. As one of our community’s “do gooders,” L. A. was always the first one to help someone out, no matter what the situation, including raising money for different needs.
In the early 1960s he helped organize and start the first Nueces Canyon Volunteer Fire Department where he was also a volunteer, and in 1976 he did the same with the Nueces Canyon EMS and drove the ambulance for many years. He served one term on the Camp Wood City Council and one year as a Nueces Canyon School Board Trustee. In the 1990s, he served a term as Edwards County Commissioner where he was instrumental in getting the much needed bridge crossing at the Nueces River at Barksdale. Due to his great love of the Nueces Canyon, L. A. dedicated his life to serving, helping, supporting and promoting its community, people and surrounding areas. L. A. will be missed greatly by his family, friends and community, as he was an asset and example to us all.
Pallbearers were Gary Wayne Baxter Jr., Hollis Ward, Levi Field, Phil Henson, Carroll Schultz and Owen Henley.
Honorary pallbearers were Olin Merritt, Gorman Hill, Tommy Ward, Harmon  Jones and F. H. Sherman.
Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2005 in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Camp Wood,  Texas with Brother Brian Garnet and Brother Monty Ward officiating.
Arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Home of Camp Wood.

Juana Aguilar Rubio
Juana Aguilar Rubio, 86, of Leakey,  Texas died May 10, 2005 at Uvalde Memorial Hospital. She was born March 30, 1919 in Eagle Pass.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Santos Rubio and a daughter, Roberta Rubio.
She is survived by her daughters, Maria Saiz of Leakey, Herminia Martinez and husband Ben of Ingram; sons, Nick Rubio and wife Susie of San Antonio, Sam Rubio and wife Helen of Leakey, Manuel Rubio and wife Petra of Leakey, Julian Rubio and wife Donna of Bandera, Jesus Rubio of Leakey, Jabriel Rubio and wife Dawnel of Arkansas, George Rubio of Kerrville, Paul Rubio and wife Bella of Leakey, Tim Rubio of Lewiston, Idaho; sisters, Petra Martinez of Eagle Pass, Marta Coronado and husband Raul of Brackettville, Victoria Zepeda of Nixon; thirty-six grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren and nine great-great-granchildren.
Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2005 in the Leakey Floral Cemetery with Dr. Jim O’Dell and Reverend Harvey Hulse officiating.
Arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Home of Leakey.

Grady Bailey
Grady Bailey of Paluxy,  Texas (former Rocksprings resident) passed from this life at age 83, October 8, 2005. He was born October 21, 1921 in Cherokee,  Texas. Grady was the owner/operator of Model Cleaners in Rocksprings for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wincie Ann Bailey; son, J. H. Bailey; three brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife Johanna Bailey of San Antonio; son, Winson Bailey of Tolar; daughters, Annette Wann of Paluxy, Laura Gustafson of Houston, Heidi Williams of San Antonio; brother, John Bailey of Early; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held October 10, 2005 at the Rocksprings Cemetery.

Col. Otto Bismark Cloudt, Jr.
Col. Otto Bismark Cloudt, Jr. U.S. Army (retired), died Wednesday, January 11, 2006. He was born May 31, 1918 in Rocksprings,  Texas to Otto Bismark and Lyda Owens Cloudt, Sr.
Col. “Buzzy” Cloudt graduated as Valedictorian from Rocksprings High School in 1935. He graduated from  Texas A&M in 1939 and was honored as the Distinguished military Student. During WWII, he participated in 4 major battles in Europe through France, Belgium, Luxenborg and Germany, commanding an infantry battalion and later an infantry regiment of the 94th Infantry Division. Much of this service was performed while assigned to General George Patton’s Third U.S. Army. Among other decorations, he was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and the Legion of Merit. He was also awarded the French Croix de Guerre with Palms by General De Gualle of France. After the war, he was operations officer for the Nurenberg Trials.
Col. Cloudt completed 29 years of military service in July 31, 1968. He was experienced in management of personnel and resources. He successfully advised and influenced on a national level officials of Turkey, Venezuela and The Republic of China receiving the Joint Chiefs of Service Medal.
Following his successful military career, he returned to ranching in Uvalde,  Texas.
Col. Cloudt was preceded in death by his loving wife, Latrelle Gray Cloudt in September of 2000.
He is survived by his four daughters: Cheryl Lange and husband, Dale of Berea, Ohio; Camille Denton and husband, Laddie; Caroline Cloudt and Criss Cloudt and husband, Brian Plunkett of Austin,  Texas; seven grandchildren, Darcy Lange, Michele Hughes, Daryl Lange, Daina Taylor, Andria Capps, Treye Denton and Adeene Denton; three great grandchildren, Kendall, Bennett and Clayton Hughes.
Graveside services were held Monday, January 16th at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military Honors, San Antonio,  Texas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Breast Cancer Research.
Arrangements by Sunset Funeral Home of San Antonio,  Texas.

Donald Mose Green
Donald Mose Green, 69, of Leakey,  Texas died January 13, 2006 at his residence in Leakey. He was born January 17, 1936 in San Angelo,  Texas to Dewey Curtis and Ora Mae Green.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Green in 2004; son, Donald Glenn Green in 1994; parents, Dewey and Ora Green; brothers, Billy Earl, Delbert Curtis and Merlin Green.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lulu Boyd and husband Jug of Colorado City,  Texas and Linda Martin and husband Monty of Leakey,  Texas; son, Dustin Green and wife Paula of Leakey,  Texas; daughter-in-law, Ronda Green of Leakey; sister, Bernice Grosslans and husband Irvin of Brownwood; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2006 at the Leakey Floral Cemetery with Brother Ray Miller and Brother Jim O’Dell officiating.

Velma E. Rape Dutton
Velma E. Rape Dutton died June 30, 2006, in Junction,  Texas. Services were held Monday, July 3 at the Gentry-Fife Funeral Home in Junction. Burial was in the Bear Creek Cemetery.
Velma was born November 12, 1905, in Bexar,  Texas, now part of San Antonio, to Porter Fiers “Doc” and Elva Joiner Rape. She celebrated her 100th birthday last November.
She graduated from Junction High School and taught school for three years.
In 1926, she married Harold C. Dutton and spent her life on the Dutton Ranch where she raised her family. She was very active in civic and social clubs in Junction.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Helen Richardson, Katie Lee Trainer, Polly Nettleton, Mary Jo Brown; brothers, Dan Rape and Jack Raye; husband, Harold Dutton; son, Duane Dutton; daughter-in-law, Alta Mae Dutton; grandson, Mikel Murr; and great-grandson, Derek Dutton.
She is survived by two sons, Vernon Dutton and Jerry Dutton and wife, Jan; daughter, Winona Murr and husband Ralph; sister, Wanda Neville; sister-in-law, Mildred Raye; daughter-in-law Fern Dutton; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were by Gentry-Fife Funeral Home.

York Newman
York Newman, 95, died July 5, 2006 in Uvalde,  Texas. He was born May 27, 1911 in Carta Valley,  Texas.
York’s grandfather, John D. Newman came from the  Texas Panhandle to Edwards County in 1884 with 200 head of cattle and 400 horses. His son, Isaiah Bee Newman, later married Dora Estella York, who were York’s parents.
On December 28, 1933 York married Elizabeth Honeycutt also of Carta Valley. They were married 68 years.
In February 1994, the Methodist Church honored Mr. Newman for 50 years of Lay service. York believed in old time Biblical Ethics of work and moral integrity which this country was founded on. They were affectionately known as Mr. & Mrs. Mayor of Carta Valley.
He is survived by his daughter: Iveylea and her husband Shannon Grubb; grandchildren: Shannalea  Taylor and her husband Hal; and great-grandsons: Sloan, Harrison and Stockton  Taylor all of Carta Valley; also numerous nieces and nephews.
His wife Sarah Elizabeth Newman in June 2001 and infant daughter Wanda Beth Newman in 1936 preceded him in death.
Graveside services were held Saturday, July 8 at Carta Valley Cemetery, Carta Valley with Reverend Nancy Littlefield officiating.
Funeral arrangements were by G. W. Cox Memorial Funeral Home of Del Rio LTD@114 Fletcher Dr.

Wayne “Corky” Coffman
Wayne “Corky” Coffman’s funeral service will be Friday, March 30th at 2 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home in Rocksprings,  Texas. A complete obituary will appear in next week’s paper.
Lunch for the Coffman family will be served at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 12 noon Friday, March 30th. A representative from the church said, “For anyone wanting to bring food, the doors will be open at 9:30 a.m.”
Corky has gone fishing! He always said that every day a man fished the Lord would add another day to his life. Corky was a person who always saw something good about everyone he met.
Wayne Arthur “Corky” Coffman passed into his new life on Monday, March 26, 2007 at the age of 78. He was born on February 10, 1929 in Cohoma,  Texas. He grew up in West  Texas around Ft. Stockton, moving to Rocksprings when he was a senior in high school. He graduated from Rocksprings High School in 1947. He was in the Army from 1950 to 1952 and spent a year in Korea.
“Corky” and Dudley Arlett Edwards were married in Ft. Smith, Arkansas on December 31, 1950. The two celebrated their 56th anniversay on New Year’s Eve 2006.
After he was discharged from the Army, they moved back to Rocksprings and raised six children. He loved to fish and taught all his children and 18 grand-children to fish.
After his discharge from the Army, Coffman moved back to Rocksprings to work for his father-in-law, Dud Edwards. He worked at that job for twenty years. He also had a wholesale milk business for several years and owned and operated the Gulf Service Station for some time. In 1976, he started working for La Vaca Gas Company, now Valero Energy Corporation, from which he retired in 1994.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
“Corky” was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Myrtle Spears and sister, Maxine Wynne. He is survived by his wife Dudley Coffman and children: Penny Coffman; Wesley Coffman and wife, Angie; Winn Coffman and wife, Autumn; Corrine Cottle and husband, Stan; Kate Allie Holdridge and husband, Tim; Carrie Gerland and husband, Louis. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren: Chad Coffman, Shelli Poteet, Adam Coffman, Zack Coffman, Michael Galindo, Lance Coffman, Pace Coffman, Trezure Coffman, Roy Cottle, Lisa Cottle, Colby Cottle, Kayla Cottle, Hunter Holdridge, Carter Holdridge, Allie Holdridge, Shane McNeill, Kyle  Jones and Matty Jones. His 6 great-grandchildren are: Patrick Poteet, Paxton Poteet, Mason Coffman, Adyson Coffman, Montana Coffman and Keely Coffman; his brother J. C. Coffman and wife Betty; sisters Bobbie Lou Reed and Nelda Ledford. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
Services for “Corky” were held at 2:00 p.m. in Nelson Funeral Home on Friday, March 30th, 2007. His granddaughter, Mattie Jones, read the following letter, which she wrote, at his funeral.

J. H. Fryar
J. H. Fryar, 70, of Mountain Home,  Texas passed away November 9, 2007 at Sid Peterson Hospital in Kerrville,  Texas. He was born October 16, 1937 in Rocksprings,  Texas to Jeff and Eva Miller Fryar.
He is survived by wife Loise Clark Fryar of La Grange,  Texas and son, Ray Fryar of College Station,  Texas.
Cremation arrangements under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home of Leakey,  Texas.

Zula Pearl “Billie” Clark
Zula Pearl “Billie” Clark, 91, of Uvalde, formerly of Leakey, died January 13, 2008 at Uvalde Memorial Hospital. She was born May 18, 1916 in Leakey,  Texas to Robert and Zulah Routh Shipman.
She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Zulah Shipman, husband Beauford Clark, son David Gordon Clark, daughter Sherry LaNell Stewart and grandsons Cameron Lesley and Bradley Evans.
Billie is survived by two daughters, Darlene Shannon and husband Lonnie of Uvalde and Robbie Pannell and husband John of Camp Wood; son-in-law Bob Stewart; daughter-in-law Shirley Clark, thirty grandchildren, sixty-two great grandchildren and twelve great, great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside services were held January 16, 2008 in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Camp Wood,  Texas with Brother Jim Boyd officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were Norman Wright and all of her grandsons.
Arrangements were under the direction of Nelson Funeral Homes of Camp Wood,  Texas.
