STAYTON ALEXANDER HAMMACK

Funeral services for Stayton Alexander Hammack, infant son of Jeremy and Dawn Trompler Hammack of Victoria, will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at 10 a.m. at Rosewood Funeral Chapels, Victoria. The Rev. Kenneth Parker will officiate. Interment will follow at Bischoff Cemetery in Inez under the direction of the funeral home.

The infant died Friday, Nov. 24. Born Nov. 7, 2000, in Houston, he was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Survivors in addition to his parents, are sister, Alissa of Edna; grandparents, Victor and Carolyn Hammack, Inez, and Larry and Yvonne Trompler, Victoria; great-grandparents, Ned and Lynette Thigpen, New Davy, John and Edna Montgomery, Frost, and Alvin Trompler, Waxahachie; and great-great-grandmother, Lydia Loest, Goliad.

He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Dee Dee Micenheimer, Laura Fehlis and M.L. Hammack.

Pallbearers will be uncles Chris Hammack, Jason Hammack, J.J.  Johnson and Michael Whatley.

Memorials may be made to the Hammack Family Benefit Fund, c/o First Victoria National Bank, Attn: Pam, 7001 NE Zac Lentz Parkway, Victoria,  Texas 77904.

ANDRES M. CANALES, JR.

Funeral services for Andres M. Canales Jr., 67, of Edna, formerly of Kemah, will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at 2 p.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna with the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in El Campo under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Mr. Canales died Nov. 26. Born Sept. 10, 1933, in Lochart to the late Andres M. Sr. and Francisca Martinez Canales, he was self-employed as a retired electrician and was a Catholic.

Survivors include sisters, Dora Hernandez of Edna and Janie Morales of Ganado; and brothers, Fred Canales, Van Vleck, Paul Canales, San Antonio, Frank Canales, El Campo, and Tony Canales, Edna.

He was preceded in death by parents; and a brother, Refugio Canales.

Nephews served as pallbearers.

ARTHUR F. "HOPPY" WHEELER

Funeral services for Arthur F. “Hoppy” Wheeler, 72, of Lolita were held Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Lolita United Methodist Church with the Rev. Alan Delafield officiating. Interment followed at Red Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home of Port Lavaca.

Mr. Wheeler died Feb. 28. Born Oct. 5, 1927, in Victoria to the late Arthur F. Wheeler Sr. and Kate Sue Stallings, he retired from plant operations with CP&L after 41 years of service and was a member of Lolita United Methodist Church. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Korea and was a life member and past Post Commander of V.F.W. #8556 of Lolita. He was also a caretaker for the Red Bluff Cemetery and the Lolita Cemetery for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Joe Caffall Wheeler of Lolita whom he married Oct. 29, 1970; daughters, Debbie Wheeler, San Antonio, Lee Ann Bowen, Austin, and Anita Gross, Canyon Lake; son, Russell Carpenter, Las Vegas, Nev.; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents; sister; and son .

Pallbearers were Heath Carpenter, Colby Bowen, Bobby Gross, Clayton Carpenter, Russell Carpenter and Randy Waters. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Bowen, Lenard Daily, CP&L employees and retirees and the CP&L Camping Group.

Memorials may be made to the Lolita United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 103, Lolita, TX 77971.

DOROTHY MARIE HOWARD

Funeral services for Dorothy Marie Howard, 71, of Edna were held Friday, March 3, 2000, at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna with the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating. Interment followed at Red Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Mrs. Howard died March 1. Born March 10, 1928, in Yoakum to the late John Barnec and Matilda Jurek, she was a homemaker and member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. She and Albert “Jack” Howard of Edna were married June 19, 1962, in Edna. She was a member of V.F.W. and attended Nazareth Academy.

Survivors include husband; daughters, Theresa Zetka, El Campo, and Rose Harvey and Linda Fowler, both of Edna; son, Richard Zack, Edna; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by parents; son, Frank Zack Jr.; two sisters; and a brother.

Pallbearers were Dennis Harvey, Tim Harvey, Joe Zetka Jr., Ricky Zack, Johnathan Fowler and Sonny Hadley. Honorary pallbearers were John Schoelman, Chris Williams, Kevin Grimes, Chris Burks, Artey Burks, Eric Morgan, Joe Zetka Sr., and all grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to donor’s choice or St. Agnes Catholic Church.

AUGUST GEORGE NATSIS JR.

Funeral services for August George Natsis Jr., 81, of Victoria and Edna were held Thursday, March 2, 2000, at Slavik Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating. Interment followed at Memory Gardens of Edna under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Mr. Natsis died Feb. 28. Born July 26, 1918, in Bay City, Michigan, to the late August “Gus” George Natsis Sr., and Estella Hennard Natsis, he was a retired lumberman and member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. He and the late Vivian LeVasseur were married Sept. 7, 1941. He retired as vice president of Calcasieu Lumber Co. in Austin in 1974 and was active in the Lumbermen’s Association of  Texas. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe.

Survivors include a son, August George Natsis III, Edna; brother, William F. Natsis, Bay City, Michigan; a grandson and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by parents; and a sister.

Pallbearers were Chip Natsis, Preston Atkinson, Darrell Atkinson, Lloyd Boston, Steve Blanchard and Martin Hill. Honorary pallbearers were residents and staff of Assisted Living of Victoria.

Memorials may be made to donor’s choice.

IDA H. BOLTON

Graveside services for Ida H. Bolton, 78, of Ganado were held Saturday, March 4, 2000, at Ganado Cemetery with the Rev. Bruce Adamson officiating. Interment was under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bolton died March 3. Born June 21, 1921, in Shiner to the late Herbert Hoerig, she was a homemaker and member of St. James Lutheran Church of Ganado. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the VFW in Ganado.

Survivors include sons, Alton Bolton and David Bolton, both of Van Vleck; sister, Irma Barta, New Braunfels; brother, Herbert Hoerig, Shiner; and five grandchildren.

Preceded in death by four sisters; and husband, Alton Bolton Sr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the St. James Lutheran Memorial Fund.

RAY DORSEY

Funeral services for Oliver Ray Dorsey, 93, of Edna were held Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at First Baptist Church of Edna with the Rev. Jim Gilbert officiating. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home of Edna.

Mr. Dorsey died Feb. 19. Born Sept. 2, 1906, in Quail to the late Charles L. and Ida Dickert Dorsey, he was a self-employed rice farmer and member of First Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge #767. He was a Deacon of First Baptist, Edna.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Euneva Brown Dorsey whom he married July 7, 1932, at Sayer, Okla.; daughter, Joy Wehmeyer, Port Lavaca; son, Carlton Dorsey, Edna; sister, Dorothy Legg, Victoria; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents; and a brother, Donald Dickert Dorsey.

Pallbearers were Joe Bonnot, B.J. Taylor, Joe Ellis, Gary Chamblee, Lee Phillips, John Hiltpold, Russell Dorsey and Ty Dorsey. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Men’s Victory Sunday School Class, Deacons of First Baptist Church and Paul Garza.

DIONICIO C. TRISTAN

Funeral services for Dionicio Castro Tristan, 69, of Ganado were held Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado with the Rev. Joseph Hybner officiating. Interment followed at the Assumption Catholic Church Cemetery with military services under the auspices of the Ganado VFW. Tracy’s M.J. Santellana Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Tristan died Feb. 16. Born April 8, 1930, in Ganado, he was a retired foreman at W.E. Hayden Lease Service and a member of Assumption Catholic Church of Ganado.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Alaniz Tristan, Ganado; daughters, Sally Smithwick, Louise, Sandra Estrada, McAllen, Rita Garza, Paula Tristan and Cindy Tristan, all of Victoria, Ester Bagget, Palacios, and Mary Jane Salinas, LaWard; sons, Donnie Tristan Jr., LaWard, Joe Tristan, Lolita, Tommy Tristan, Rene Tristan and Adam Tristan, all of Ganado, Steve Tristan, Hillje, and Paul Tristan, Edna; sisters, Mary Tristan and Georgia Rymers, both of San Antonio, Beatrice Bustamante and Laura Mendez, both of El Campo, Caroline Cortez, Ganado; brothers, Pete Tristan, Martin Tristan and Isidor Tristan, all of San Antonio, and Carlos Tristan, Houston; 40 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents; sister, Virginia Vasquez; brothers, Primitivo Tristan Jr. and Raymond Tristan.

Memorials may be made to Marine Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, LULAC or Knights of Columbus.

PRESTON M. RESSMAN

Funeral services for Preston M. Ressman, 69, of Inez were held Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Inez with the Rev. Ed Rowley officiating. Interment with full military honors under the auspices of American Legion, CWV, VFW, Marine Corp League and DAV followed at Bischoff Cemetery under the direction of Rosewood Funeral Chapels.

Mr. Ressman died Feb. 17. Born Jan. 19, 1931, in Goliad County to Maedella Striedel Ressman of Inez and the late Chasper A. Ressman, he was a retired bus driver and custodian for the Industrial ISD and a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Inez. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Earlene Franz Ressman, Inez; daughters, Lisa  Jones and Donna Santiago, both of Inez, and Diane Wolverton, Lake Jackson; sisters, Josie Marbach and Dorthy Boehm, both of Victoria; brothers, Johnnie Ressman, James Ressman and Walter (Bubba) Ressman, all of Inez; and 8 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Gary Franz, Quintin Santiago, Gerald Ressman, Jeremy Kretser, Lupe Lopez and Arnold Donaho. Honorary pallbearers were Deborah Swope, employees of Industrial Independent School District, Josie Marbach, Dorthy Boehm, Johnnie Ressman, James Ressman, Walter (Bubba) Ressman and grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of South  Texas, 2004 Fagan Circle, Victoria,  Texas 77901.

SHERRI LEAH S. GILL

Funeral services for Sherri Leah Stewart Gill, 34, of Edna were held Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at Edna Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Cathryn Edwards officiating. Interment followed at Red Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gill died Feb. 16. Born May 11, 1965, in Houston to James W. Stewart of Ingleside and Marian Sue Cunningham Kimbrough of Angleton, she was a homemaker and a Presbyterian. She and Burl Jerome Gill of Edna were married Sept. 1, 1984, in Angleton.

Survivors include her husband; parents; step-father, Jack Kimbrough, Angleton; step-mother, Frances Stewart, Ingleside; grandmother, Alice B. Cunningham, Lake Jackson; daughters, Jessica Sue Gill, Jamie Leigh Gill and Kelsey Lynn Gill, all of Edna; and brother, Neal Stewart, Huntsville.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Dave Stewart.

Pallbearers were Billy Bradshaw, Stan Griffin, Kent Gabrysch, Lee Gabrysch, James Koop and Casey Koop.
