Maggie J. Nelson
Maggie J. Nelson, 90, one of Jehovah Witness, died Wednesday, March 29, 2006 in her residence in Fort Stockton, Texas. She was born July 4, 1915 in Camp Wood, Texas to John and Lena Shipman. She married Marvin Nelson on November 12, 1933 at Barksdale Ranch, Texas.
Lena is preceded in death by, her husband Marvin Nelson, her parents, John and Lena Shipman, two sisters Dorothy Pennington and Isophen Farris and one brother Sydney Shipman.
She is survived by sons: John A. Nelson and wife Jean; Joe T. Nelson and wife Algianita all of Fort Stockton; daughter Geneva McMain of Port Arthur, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Maggie J. or Mama J., as most people knew her, was born in Camp Wood and lived in that area until she moved to Ft. Stockton in 1996. Some of her happiest times were spent with her family on her ranch just outside of Barksdale. She loved the outdoors and taking care of her pets. She worked with the Nueces Canyon School District in the school cafeteria for 25 years until she retired in 1985. She was a faithful follower of the Jehovah Witness and was often recognized for her punctually, dedication to her studies and witness to others. She will be well remembered for her wonderful meals which always included your favorite food if she knew you were going to be there. Her face would light up when she was talking about her children, she was so proud of them.
Graveside services were held April 1st at the Barksdale Cemetery.
Col. Otto Bismark Cloudt, Jr.
Col. Otto Bismark Cloudt, Jr. U.S. Army (retired), died Wednesday, January 11, 2006. He was born May 31, 1918 in Rocksprings, Texas to Otto Bismark and Lyda Owens Cloudt, Sr.
Col. “Buzzy” Cloudt graduated as Valedictorian from Rocksprings High School in 1935. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1939 and was honored as the Distinguished military Student. During WWII, he participated in 4 major battles in Europe through France, Belgium, Luxenborg and Germany, commanding an infantry battalion and later an infantry regiment of the 94th Infantry Division. Much of this service was performed while assigned to General George Patton’s Third U.S. Army. Among other decorations, he was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, and the Legion of Merit. He was also awarded the French Croix de Guerre with Palms by General De Gualle of France. After the war, he was operations officer for the Nurenberg Trials.
Col. Cloudt completed 29 years of military service in July 31, 1968. He was experienced in management of personnel and resources. He successfully advised and influenced on a national level officials of Turkey, Venezuela and The Republic of China receiving the Joint Chiefs of Service Medal.
Following his successful military career, he returned to ranching in Uvalde, Texas.
Col. Cloudt was preceded in death by his loving wife, Latrelle Gray Cloudt in September of 2000.
He is survived by his four daughters: Cheryl Lange and husband, Dale of Berea, Ohio; Camille Denton and husband, Laddie; Caroline Cloudt and Criss Cloudt and husband, Brian Plunkett of Austin, Texas; seven grandchildren, Darcy Lange, Michele Hughes, Daryl Lange, Daina Taylor, Andria Capps, Treye Denton and Adeene Denton; three great grandchildren, Kendall, Bennett and Clayton Hughes.
Graveside services were held Monday, January 16th at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military Honors, San Antonio, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Breast Cancer Research.

Donald Mose Green
Donald Mose Green, 69, of Leakey, Texas died January 13, 2006 at his residence in Leakey. He was born January 17, 1936 in San Angelo, Texas to Dewey Curtis and Ora Mae Green.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Green in 2004; son, Donald Glenn Green in 1994; parents, Dewey and Ora Green; brothers, Billy Earl, Delbert Curtis and Merlin Green.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lulu Boyd and husband Jug of Colorado City, Texas and Linda Martin and husband Monty of Leakey, Texas; son, Dustin Green and wife Paula of Leakey, Texas; daughter-in-law, Ronda Green of Leakey; sister, Bernice Grosslans and husband Irvin of Brownwood; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2006 at the Leakey Floral Cemetery with Brother Ray Miller and Brother Jim O’Dell officiating.
Joyce Merck Keating
Joyce Merck Keating, 78, of New Braunfels, Texas died July 12, 2005 at Life Care Hospital of San Antonio, Texas. She was born January 17, 1927 in Vance, Texas to Richard Lee Merck and Leona Rose O’Bryant Merck.
She is survived by husband of 18 years, Robert Keating of New Braunfels, Texas; five children, Dick Roberts and wife Kathy of Denver, Colorado, Anjeli Mote of Kerrville, Texas, Jonathan Roberts of San Antonio, Texas, Jillani Hammons of Corpus Christi, Texas; stepchildren, Vonda Chaney of Annapolis, Maryland, John Keating of Dallas, Texas; ten grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Hall of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Jo Ann Creech of Uvalde, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Lee and Leona Rose Merck; one daughter, Lynette Roberts Jones.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, July 16, 2005 at the Barksdale Cemetery in Barksdale.

Erwin Rice Mills
Ervin Rice Mills, 86, of Uvalde, Texas died July 11, 2005 at his home in Uvalde after a lengthy illness. He was born July 21, 1918 in Olney, Illinois to Hugh Raymond and Vera Rice Mills. He and his family moved to Weslaco, Texas in 1920 where he attended Weslaco High School and later Texas A&M University at College Station.
Mr. Mills later served in the Pacific during World War II as a captain in the U. S. Army Signal Corps. After the war he worked in the electronics business in Brownsville, Corpus Christie, Port Aransas and Aransas Pass, Texas.
After retirement in the mid 80s, Mr. Mills and his wife Clara moved to Camp Wood, Texas and then to Uvalde in January of 2005. He had a lifelong love of electronics and was a ham operator for many years.
Mr. Mills lived his life as a true gentleman and christian. He and his wife Clara attended the House of Praise Church in Barksdale, Texas for many years. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Clara Mills of Uvalde; children: Beth Stenberg, Mike Mills, Gary Mills, Luke Wollard and Becky West; sister: V. V. Spring; grandchildren: Sandy Raborn, Lucas Wollard, Brian Hampton, Jerrod Mills, Rebecca Mills, Meredith Stenberg, David Stenberg, Emily Mills and Donna Harley; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
At Mr. Mills request no funeral or memorial service was scheduled. The family request no flowers, however donations may be made to Uvalde Hospice, The House of Praise in Barksdale or to the charity of your choice.
Cremation arrangements were by Nelson Funeral Home of Camp Wood, Texas.
Edna Lois Taylor Neatherlin
Edna Lois Taylor Neatherlin, 72, of Barksdale, Texas died July 14 at her home in Barksdale. She was born August 24, 1932 in Barksdale, Texas to Crystal and Nellie Lorina Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bud Neatherlin; her father Crystal Taylor; and a brother Ernest Taylor.
She is survived by her mother Nellie Lorina Taylor of Camp Wood; brothers, Carl Taylor of Llano, E. C. Taylor and wife Arlene of Aspermont; daughters, Aroma Laman and husband Hurschel of Brownwood, Genevieve Maki and husband Bob of Arlington, Susie Shackelford and husband Neal of Barksdale; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Taylor of Utah; stepchildren, W. C. and Pat Neatherlin of Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held in the Vance Cemetery on Saturday, July 16, 2005 with Carroll Vernor, Jr. officiating.
Arrangements were by Neslon Funeral Home of Camp Wood.
Elton Lee Strater
Elton Lee Strater, died July 15, 2005, survived by his wife Gwen Strater of Rocksprings; daughter and husband, Nina and Laine Gayheart of Austin; daughter Gina Breaux of Olla, LA; daughter and husband, Dina and Robert Byrd of Leander; grandchildren, Matthew Breaux of Lake Charles, LA, James Elton Gayheart, LCpl of 2nd Marine Air Wing in Iraq, Colynda Gayheart of Austin, Michelle Breaux of Lake Charles, LA, Lucas Breaux of Lake Charles, LA, Colton Byrd of Leander and Camden Byrd of Leander. He was preceded in death by both his parents and his sister.
Funeral services were held in Kerrville at 2:00 P. M., on Monday, July 18, 2005, at the Fredericksburg Road Church of Christ, with Mr. Dale Cowell officiating. Interment to follow at Glen Rest Cemetery.

Billy Tom Willis
Billy Tom Willis, 68, of Ross, Texas, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at his residence. Funeral services were held October 14, 2007 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, Texas. Burial followed at White Rock Cemetery near Ross.
Mr. Willis was born October 16, 1938, in West, the son of William Eugene “Tom” and Mary Ruth (Marshall) Willis. He attended West schools and was a 1957 graduate of West High School.
On Sept. 14, 1968, he was united in marriage to Delfa Janice Thiele in Aquilla, Texas. Billy and his wife are owners and operators of the Willis Country Store in Ross and have been in business for over 26 years.
The little country store off of I-35 has been instrumental in hosting several fundraisers for people in need and parties for many of his customers and friends.
In his younger years, he was a professional bull rider and rodeo clown who traveled all over the United States to perform. He had many friends and fans to cheer him on over the years and was proudly inducted in the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in February 2004.
Billy loved to pull pranks and enjoyed joking around with his family and friends. He dearly loved his grandchildren Lainey “Puddin” and Langston. He was a member of the Ross Volunteer Fire Department where he served as chief for many years and was instrumental in the department’s reorganization in the early 1980s. Billy also served on the Ross City Council for several years.
Survivors include his devoted and beloved wife of 39 years, Delfa Willis of Ross; one son, Thomas Willis and wife, Nancy of Elm Mott, Texas; two brothers, Dan Willis and wife, Jan and Jerry Willis, all of Gholson, Texas; one sister, Marilyn Storm and husband, Donald of Red Oak, Texas; a granddaughter, Lainey “Puddin” Willis; a grandson, Langston Willis and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in memory of Billy Willis, P. O. Box 104, Walnut Springs, TX 76690.
Willis and his two brothers are friends of editor O. D. Anderson, and the group rodeoed in the Central Texas area at the same time.
Genevieve “Bee” Johnson
Genevieve “Bee” Johnson, 83, went to be with the Lord Friday, December 8, 2006.
She was a resident of Baytown, Texas for the past 65 years, taught in Baytown schools for 24 years, and was a member of Pruett and Lobit Street Church of Christ. She lived with a strong faith in God and all knew that her actions spoke louder than words. Bee will always be remembered for love of family and friends, her quick wit, her passion for all things beautiful and an amazing artistic gift. As an active member of the Porcelain Guild of Baytown, she so appreciated the inspiration of her fellow artisans and the opportunity to give to others.
Serving as pallbearers were Christopher Ayrhart, Corey Smith, Kerby Smith, Casey Smith, Mike Huddle, Dennis Sanderson, Bo Johnson and Reggie Johnson.
Bee was born on August 31, 1923 in Big Wells, Texas to Wallace and Emma Blanchette. Her husband, Duncan Johnson preceded her in death.
She is survived by her brother Joe Blanchette and wife Mary Lou; children: Janis Smith and husband Larry; Joyce Ayrhart and husband Howard and son Jay Johnson. Granchildren are Corey Smith, Kerby Smith and wife Rebecca, Casey Smith, Christopher Ayrhart and Amanda Ayrhart; and great-grandchildren: Sydney and Stanton Smith.
Funeral services were Monday, December 11, 2006 at Navarre Funeral Home with Archie Proctor officiating. Burial followed at Cedarcrest Cemetery.

Sylvia Lee Hobbs Wooldridge
Sylvia Lee Hobbs Wooldridge, 65, of Camp Wood passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at Uvalde Memorial Hospital. She was born on December 24, 1939 in Rocksprings to John Otto Hobbs and Leona Pope Hobbs. She and Milburn Wooldridge were married in Uvalde on April 26, 1958.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her mother.
A beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, Sylvia is survived by her husband of 47 years; daughter: Connie Buchanan and husband, Mark, of Uvalde; son: Johnie Wooldridge of Camp Wood; father, Otto Hobbs of Barksdale; sister: Linda Hobbs of Barksdale; adopted sister, Sharon Warton and husband, Byron, of Magnolia; grandchildren: Chance and Kayla Wooldridge and Tammy Buchanan; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.
Sylvia worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Roadrunner Energy in Camp Wood, served as City Secretary and worked as a teller at the Camp Wood branch of First State Bank. She loved to paint and sew. A member of a large and loving family, holidays, birthdays and Sunday dinners brought several generations together to laugh, reminisce and enjoy each otherís company.
Sylvia lived much of her life in “Hobby’s House” in Camp Wood, the home of her beloved grandmother where she spent time before and after her marriage. Following Hobby’s death, she and Milburn bought the home and remodeled, carefully retaining much of its originality that she held dear to her heart. For that, many of Hobby’s children and grandchildren are forever grateful.
Many of Sylvia’s classmates remember her as a beautiful young lady with a lot of “Barksdale” spirit who played basketball, was a drum majorette and FFA Sweetheart.
Sylvia and Milburn were active with the Nueces Canyon Fire Department and worked many years at the Old Settler’s Reunion preparing the barbeque dinners and working at the dances where she was known as quite a good dancer. Sylvia will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.
Services were held Friday, July 8th at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church in Camp Wood where Sylvia was a member, served as church secretary and taught Sunday School for many years before her health began to fail. Rev. Mike Smith and Rev. Gary Jones officiated. Interment followed at the Barksdale Cemetery next to her mother.
Serving as pallbearers were Hershel Burleson, Austin Dean, Junior Hatley, Gorman Hill, Jesse Lockhart and Skipper Luce.
