SERVICES: Liturgy of the word will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Rev. John Valdez, pastor, and Monsignor James Gurzynski of the Diocese of Amarillo, officiating.

BURIAL: will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Groom under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Martin was born May 23, 1933 at  White Deer,  Texas. He was a lifelong resident of  White Deer, where he had farmed and ranched. He graduated from  White Deer High School in 1952. He married Aloise Britten on October 14, 1960 in Pampa. He worked as an operator for Cabot Corp. for 33 years, retiring in 1998. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army 6th Armored Division serving during the Korean Conflict. He attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Bruce loved young people. He served on the Carson County Jr. Livestock Board for many years, serving as swine superintendent for 13 years. He was a former 4-H leader, CYO sponsor and Honorary Chapter FFA Farmer. He was a past member of the  White Deer Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of  White Deer Senior Citizens Center. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Martin, and by a son, Richard Martin.

SURVIVORS: Wife: Aloise of the home; 4 Sons and daughters- in-law: Kenneth & Meleney Martin of Groom; Joe & Debbie Martin of Guymon,  Oklahoma; Larry Martin of Elgin; and Bob & Laura Martin of Keller; Sister: Dorothy Conrad of  White Deer. 8 Grandchildren: Amanda and Britteny Martin of Groom; Katherine, Kayla Jo, and Kody Martin of Guymon; Allie, Tori, and Dianna Martin of Keller.

Clifford Blake Allen
DATELINE: Pampa,  Texas

NAME: Clifford Blake Allen, 19 months old, beloved precious angel was called home by his Heavenly Father on Friday, April 11, 2003, at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth,  Texas.

Memorial/Celebration Services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at the Super Playground, intersection of Frost &  Louisiana in Pampa. Family, friends, the general public, and all who have prayed for Cliff since September 12, 2001 are invited to attend, and everyone is asked, if possible, to please bring a helium balloon to the service.

Alvin E. "Smiley" Brewer

SERVICES: Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Dr. Randy  White, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Brewer was born September 21, 1919 at Throckmorton,  Texas. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, joining in 1944 and was discharged in 1946. While in the Navy, he received self defense training and was rated as a 3rd degree black belt in jujitsu. He competed and taught judo as a sport and as self defense for many years. He married Juanita Graham on May 21, 1939 at Haskell. She preceded him in death in 1990. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1947. He worked as a welder for Cabot Corp. and IRI, retiring in 1984. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of the Pampa Senior Citizens. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Sonshine Club.

SURVIVORS: 1 Daughter & Son-in-Law: Beverly & Jerome Humphrey of Pampa. 1 Son: Curtis E. Brewer of Australia. 6 Grandchildren, 9 Great-Grandchildren. Special Friend: Juanita Rogers of Pampa.

Doris M. Eckroat

BIOGRAPHY: Mrs. Eckroat was born February 3, 1928 in Elk City,  Oklahoma. She came to Pampa in 1958 from Clinton,  Oklahoma. She married Virgil Eckroat in May of 1960 in Pampa. He preceded her in death in 1997. She worked as a waitress at the  White Way Café and the Coronado Inn for many years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

SURVIVORS: 1 Daughter & Son-in-Law: Linda & George Pappas of The Woodlands. 1 Son & Daughter-in-Law: Don & Melanie Carter of Pampa. 3 Sisters: Hazel McLaughlin of Weatherford,  Oklahoma, Uvon Todd of Memphis,  Texas, and Evon Flippo of Pampa. 2 Grandchildren: Teresa Armer of Kissee Mills, Missouri, and Lance Daniel of Mustang,  Oklahoma. 5 Great-Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great-Grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen & Inez Beth Hall, a daughter Judy Barnett, a granddaughter Kellie Carter, and a brother Allen Hall.

Juanita McCarthy

BIOGRAPHY: Mrs. McCarthy was born February 22, 1915 in Alvord,  Texas. She had been a resident of Pampa since 1937. She married D. C. "Cotton" McCarthy on October 21, 1939 in Sayre,  Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on July 28, 2000. She was a homemaker and a member of the Central Church of Christ.

SURVIVORS: 1 Son: Charles McCarthy of Odessa. 2 Sisters: Ida Mae Berry of Clinton,  Oklahoma, and Vestalee Hicks of Pampa. 2 Brothers: Leon Terry of Orange, and W. O. Terry of Amarillo. 5 Grandchildren, 3 Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Ronnie McCarthy in 1997, and 2 brothers, Weldon Terry in 1997 and Foy Terry in 2000.

Mrs. C. W. (Ann) Henry

NAME: Mrs. C. W. (Ann) Henry, 93

DIED: Saturday, May 24, 2003 in Panhandle

SERVICES: 10:30 AM Friday at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Penrod, pastor, officiating.

BURIAL: Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

BIOGRAPHY: Mrs. Henry was born on Aug. 23, 1909 in Stonewall County and was a resident of Pampa since 1932. She married Chester W. (Chet) Henry on July 18, 1937 at Crowell,  Texas. He preceded her in death in 1974. She was a retired registered nurse. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. She was chosen as Pampa's Woman of the Year in 1979.

SURVIVORS: 1 daughter: Carol Halley of Norman,  Oklahoma; 1 son: Bill Henry of Knoxville, Tennessee; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Dennis Cavalier
DATELINE: Pampa,  Texas

NAME: Dennis Cavalier, 58

DIED: May 24, 2003 in Pampa

SERVICES: Memorial services will be at 4:00 PM, Wednesday at Harvester Stadium in Pampa with Mr. Steve Porter, a Baptist minister and Pampa High School teacher, and Dr. Randy  White, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Cavalier was born August 6, 1944 at DuBois,  Pennsylvania to Eugene and Norma Cavalier. He graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas with his B. A. degree and was an All-American football player. He received his Master's degree from Wichita State University. He married Kathy Heitschmidt on July 5, 1969 at McPherson, Kansas. Mr. Cavalier was a resident of Pampa since 1987, where he served as athletic director and head football coach of Pampa High School. He was the football coach who turned Pampa's boys into men for 16 seasons. In the 16 years as coach, the Harvesters went to the playoffs nine times, including three three trips to the regional round, once to the quarterfinals, and to the semifinals in 1996. In 1999, he was named coach of the decade by the Amarillo Globe-News. He compiled a 107-68-2 record at Pampa. He won his 100th game as a Harvester and his 200th game overall last season. He had coached in Kansas for 13 years and in Chickasha,  Oklahoma for 6 years and from 1987 to present in Pampa. He was a member of the  Texas High School Coaching Association, Southwestern College Hall of Fame, and First Baptist Church of Pampa.

SURVIVORS: Wife: Kathy of the home, 2 Sons and daughter-in-law: Andy and Wendy Cavalier of Pampa, and Tony Cavalier of Amarillo; 2 Daughters and son-in-law: Katy and Brian Moone of Norman,  Oklahoma; and Abby Cavalier of the home; Mother: Norma Cavalier of El Paso,  Texas; 2 Brothers: Richard Cavalier of Westampton, New Jersey; and Tom Cavalier of El Paso,  Texas; 1 Grandson: Casen Cavalier of Pampa and 1 Granddaughter: McKenna Cavalier of Pampa

Thelma McWilliams
DATELINE: Austin

NAME: Thelma McWilliams, 99

DIED: Wednesday, May 28, 2003 in Austin, her home since 1980

SERVICES: Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 5, 2003 at Fairview Cemetery in Pampa with John Curry, officiating. Arrangements are by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin and Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa.

BIOGRAPHY: Thelma's  Texas roots are deep. Her grandmother, Sam Houston Ross, was named for the famous  Texas general, Sam Houston, with whom her family fought the war for independence. Thelma was born in Lavernia,  Texas on Dec. 20, 1903. As a young girl, she made a 1200-mile trek from San Antonio to eastern New Mexico where her father homesteaded 30 miles from the nearest town. The family later returned to Lavernia where she lived until she moved to San Antonio and attended Draughon's Business College. Until she married, she worked as a secretary for an oil company. In November, 1929, she married J. C. McWilliams with whom 3 sons and 1 daughter were born. For nearly 50 years, Thelma and "Mack" carved out a wonderfully active life in Pampa,  Texas. They were extremely involved with their children, their church, their schools, their business, and community. They made the First Methodist Church their church home. At the time of her death, Thelma was a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin. A visionary, extraordinaire, Thelma devoted her life to raising her children to be well-educated, good citizens. She was a woman of great determination, dignity, grace, and refinement. No one could question her love and devotion to God, her husband, and children. The simple things she loved were music and homemaking. She was each grandchild's greatest fan and encouraged all of them to strive for excellence. She always told her children, "I love whomever you love," evidenced in the way she treated her children's spouses. She was the model of the "virtuous woman" described in Proverbs 31 whose children "rise up and call her blessed." Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Willie Ross McClain; a brother, Gus Ripley McClain; her loving husband, J. C. McWilliams; and her sons, Joseph Clyde McWilliams and Larry Ross McWilliams.

SURVIVORS: 1 Daughter: Betty Lou Patterson of  Oklahoma City; 1 Son: Kenneth Ripley McWilliams of Austin; 1 brother: O. G. McClain of Houston; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Lone Star Hospice, 1212 Palm Valley Blvd., Round Rock,  Texas 78664 or to the local American Cancer Society.

SPECIAL NOTICE: The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 PM Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Home in Pampa.

R. C. Grider
DATELINE: Pampa

NAME: R. C. Grider, 88

DIED: Saturday, May 31, 2003 in Pampa after a long illness

SERVICES: Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday at Fairview Cemetery with Masonic rites courtesy of Pampa Masonic Lodge #966 AF & AM. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.

BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Grider was born July 8, 1914 in Cooper,  Texas to Robert Cornelius Grider and Audrey McClanahan Grider. His father was killed by a horse a few months before he was born and his mother later remarried. He had three half-brothers, all of whom are deceased. Mr. Grider came to Pampa from Lubbock in the early 1930's seeking work in the oilfields during the Depression. He graduated from Pampa High School in 1933, and he and his fellow graduate, Mildred Holt, were married on Nov. 25, 1936 in Pampa. She preceded him in death on Oct. 27, 1992. After a number of jobs, including working at the Lanora Theater, General Atlas Carbon Co. (now Cabot Corp.) hired him in 1938. He worked his way up to shift foreman and was employed by Cabot until his retirement in 1971. In 1950, Cabot sent him to Liverpool, England, to assist in the startup of a Cabot plant there, and this trip was one of the high points of his life. After retirement, he went to work part-time in circulation and advertising at the Pampa News. A member of Pampa Masonic Lodge #966 AF & AM since 1944, Mr. Grider was Worshipful Master in 1977-1978 and served as Worthy Patron of the Pampa Chapter #65 Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of of Borger Chapter #437, Royal Arch Masons. He belonged to both the York Rite and Scottish Rite and attained the 32nd degree. He celebrated 50 years as a Mason in 1994. He was also a member of the Khiva Shrine Temple in Amarillo. A lifetime Methodist, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pampa for over 60 years.

SURVIVORS: 1 son and daughter-in-law: Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Grider, III of Jackson, Mississippi; 1 daughter: Dr. Sylvia Grider of Bryan,  Texas; 2 grandchildren: Robert C. Grider, IV of Nashville, Tennessee and Dendy Grider Magee of Jackson, MS; 2 great grandchildren: Davis Marshall Magee and Elizabeth Anne Magee, both of Jackson. He leaves behind many dear friends, especially the staff and residents at Meredith House; his brother-in-law, Ralph Milliron of Pampa; his beloved lodge brothers; and the members of First United Methodist Church.

Lela Pearl Beckham

BIOGRAPHY: Mrs. Beckham was born January 5, 1924 in Mountainair, New Mexico. She had been a resident of Pampa since 1925. She married Harold Beckham on May 7, 1944 in Pampa. He preceded her in death in 1997. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was also a member of the Sonshine Club and the Sonshine Choir. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheri Rene Beckham in 1950.

SURVIVORS: Son: Richard L. Beckham & wife Marilyn of Houston. 1 Daughter: Cheryl (Cheri) Duggan & husband Bill of Missouri City. 4 Grandchildren: Amy Garcia and Lynn Rector, both of Amarillo, Steve Rector of the U. S. Air Force, and Matt Duggan of Missouri City; and 7 Great-Grandchildren.
