Valdez
Santiago Valdez Sr., 54, of Anchorage, Alaska, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002. Mr. Valdez was born Oct. 26, 1948, in George West to Alicia Ybañez and Ismael Valdez. He married Celia Garcia on June 5, 1971, in Kingsville. He was a member of the Baptist church and was a utility power lineman.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife, Celia Valdez of Anchorage, Alaska; two sons, Santiago (Christy) Valdez Jr. of Seattle, Wash., and Luiz (Susie) Valdez of San Antonio; a sister, Genoveva Valdez of Mt. Vernon, Wash.; his mother, Alicia Ybañez Valdez of Kenedy; and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation and a prayer service were held Friday at the Galloway & Sons chapel in Beeville. The funeral was held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Central Baptist Church in Kingsville, with the Rev. Servando Torres and Pastor Bob Hobbins officiating. Burial was at the George West Cemetery at 2 p.m.

Cruz
Margie Rebecca “Becky” Cruz, 36, of San Antonio died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, in Houston. Miss Cruz was born in Kenedy on Sept. 1, 1966, to Robert Cruz Sr. and Soila Ramon Cruz. She was a member of the Catholic church and was employed as a realtor.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Galloway & Sons chapel in George West. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday at St. George Catholic Church, with Father Joseph Olikkara officiating.
Burial followed in the St. George Catholic Cemetery.
Survivors include her father, Robert Cruz Sr. and his wife, Clara, of George West; her mother, Soila Ramon Cruz of George West; a brother, Robert (Criselda) Cruz Jr. of George West; two sisters, Annie Cruz of Agua Dulce and Alice Cruz Morrow of San Antonio; her maternal grandmother, Aurora S. Ramon of Charlotte; several nephews, nieces, aunts and uncles; and her favorite pet, “Casey.”

Espinoza
Rodolfo P. “Fito” Espinoza, 60, a lifetime resident of Freer, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer. He retired after 20 years of employment with McMullen County.
Mr. Espinoza was preceded in death by his son, James Espinoza; his father, Manuel Espinoza; a sister, Juanita Salinas; and a brother, Juan Manuel Espinoza.
Survivors include his wife, Elda Q. Espinoza of Freer; two sons, Rudy Espinoza and Manuel Espinoza, both of Tilden; five daughters, Delane (Orlando) Navarro of Freer, Jackie (Carroll) Almendarez and Belinda (Michael) Gunter, all of Tilden, Brenda Espinoza (Tony Martinez) of Corpus Christi and Alice Espinoza (Hector Riojas) of Three Rivers; his mother, Francisca Espinoza of Freer; three brothers, Raymundo (Nita) Espinoza of Benavides, Ralph (Carolina) Espinoza and Ruben Espinoza, all of Freer; two sisters, Lesbia (Anselmo) Villarreal and Melba (Arturo) Villarreal, all of Tilden; five grandchildren, Cody Almendarez, Timry and Tyler Gunter, and Myra and Mariah Navarro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Garza Funeral Home in Freer.
Rosary will be recited at 7 o’clock this evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Freer with Father Angel Montano as celebrant.
Interment will follow at the Hilltop Cemetery in Tilden.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Espinoza Jr., Anselmo Villarreal, Alonzo Villarreal, John Richard Espinoza, Alberto Espinoza, Homero Garza, T.J. Villarreal and Ricky Perez. Honorary pallbearers will be John Herrera, Robert Herrera, Matthew Quintanilla, Tres Quintanilla and Joe Michael Guajardo.
Arrangements were under the direction of Garza Funeral Home in Freer.

Kellner
Ms. Willie “Bill” James Kellner, 82, of George West died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, in Corpus Christi’s Bay Area Hospital.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 4 to 9 p.m. at St. George Catholic Church in George West. Rosary was recited that evening at 7 o’clock, with Father Brendan Ashe officiating. Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. George, with Father Michael Howell officiating.
Special music included “Prayer of St. Francis,” “On Eagle’s Wings” and “Hail Mary,” with organist Barbara Bednorz.
Burial followed in the Gussettville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Guy, Pat, Willie and Jimmy James, Jeffery Thoms and Jim Davis. Honorary pallbearers were Lloyd Clifton, Steve Woodmansee and David Thoms.
Ms. Kellner was born on Feb. 22, 1920, in Live Oak County’s Gussettville community to John Guy and Angeline (Goodwin) James. She was a rancher and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jimmy Kellner; and a brother, Edgar James.
Survivors include two daughters, Gayle (Andrew) Snider and Patsy (Edward) Pawlik; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Kellner; two brothers, Jim (Margaret) James and J.G. “Sonny” (Mildred) James; and a sister-in-law, Edna James, all of George West, 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Martin
Irene Martin, 93, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, in a Three Rivers Nursing Home, following a long illness. Mrs. Martin was born in Live Oak County on Dec. 25, 1908, to Joe and Dora Humphries.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse, on Jan. 13, 1961.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy (Charlie) Vanek of Three Rivers; three sisters, Ruby Flowers of Kemp, Doris Goodwen of Pleasanton and Lois Kindla of Poteet; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Visitation was held Monday at the Roberson Funeral Home chapel. The funeral was at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Interment followed in the Oakville Cemetery.

Torres
Nasario Torres Jr., 55, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002.
Visitation was held Sunday at the Angelus Funeral Home chapel. Rosary was recited at 7 o’clock that evening at the same location. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Patrick Donohoe officiating. Burial followed in Clareville’s San Pedro Cemetery.
Mr. Torres was born to Nasario and Rita (Sanchez) Torres in George West on May 23, 1947. He married Idolina Cuellar on July 18, 1964, in Freer. He resided in Beeville and was a master plumber and a member of the Catholic church.
He was preceded in death by his son, Albert Cuellar Torres, in 2001.
Survivors include his wife, Idolina Torres of Beeville; one son, Joe Louis Torres of Houston; one daughter, Anna Melisa Torres of Houston; one brother, Victor Valdez of Freer; three sisters, Angelita Guerra of Freer, Isabel Kneten of San Antonio and Ramona Escalante of San Diego; four grandchildren, Jessica Lynn, Seth Alec, Christian Renee and Joseph Alexander Torres.

Baldwin
Harvey Cecil Baldwin, 73, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002, in Houston.
Mr. Baldwin was a highly active member of the Three Rivers community, and had recently retired from First State Bank of Three Rivers, where he was executive vice president. He was also a member of the Rotary Club, American Cancer Society, the Boys and Girls Club board of directors, First State Bank board of directors and Knights of Columbus, attaining the fourth degree. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a former Grand Knight.
Mr. Baldwin was born on Oct. 27, 1928, to Harry and Zella (Fought) Baldwin, in Galesburg, Kan. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He married Nora Ann Hayden on Aug. 18, 1951, in Corpus Christi.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roy Grant Baldwin.
Mr. Baldwin is survived by his wife, Nora Ann Baldwin of Three Rivers; a son, Wayne Harvey Baldwin of New Braunfels; a daughter, Linda Ann Hill-Smith and husband Michael R. of Huntsville; five grandchildren, Corey Wayne and Lane Harvey Baldwin, Kelsey Alexandra and Shelby Lynette Hill and Hayden Smith (to be born Aug. 14); two brothers, Riley Baldwin of Galesburg, Kan., and Ralph Baldwin of Erie, Kan.; six sisters, Ruby Wilcox of Pompano Beach, Fla., Ruth Arseneault of Lynwood,  Colo., Ada Lee Landreau of Thousand Oaks,  Calif., Alma Oberly of Tempe, Ariz., Opal St. Claire of Solomans, Md., and Anna Venneman of Walnut, Kan.
Visitation was held Sunday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rosary was recited that evening at 7 o’clock. Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart, with Fathers Piotr Gajda and Brendan Ashe officiating. Burial followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Corpus Christi. Pallbearers were the Knights of Columbus.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Lillian Lee, P.O. Box 853, Three Rivers,  Texas 78071.

Bowen
David Thomas Bowen, 64, of Sandia died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, in an Alice hospital. Mr. Bowen was born Aug. 11, 1938, in Post to Thomas and Bess Bowen. He was a retired trucking supervisor for the Pool Company.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Bowen of Sandia; two daughters, Deborah Wall and Denise Strickland, both of Sandia; one brother, Charles R. (Juanita) Bowen of Quito, Equador; three grandchildren, Courtney Commander, Jennifer McClane and Jonathan Wall.
The funeral was held this morning (Wednesday) at 10 o’clock at the Holmgreen Mortuary chapel in Alice. Burial followed in the Alice Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Holmgreen Mortuary, Alice.

Reagan
Bob Reagan, 89, of Three Rivers died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Mr. Reagan was born June 24, 1913, in Oakville to Eula Louise (Cleveland) and L.A. “Rocky” Reagan Sr. He married Ann Storm in Premont on Dec. 6, 1939. He was a lifelong rancher, member of the Methodist church and a former Live Oak County sheriff.
A graveside service was held at the Oakville Cemetery on Wednesday, Sept. 18, with the Rev. Bill Duke officiating. Pallbearers were Thad Moore, Mark Bledsoe, Scotty Bledsoe, Richard Moore, Wesley Reagan, Rocky Reagan III, Jack Seals Jr. and Pat Seals.
Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Naylor, Sam Huff, Buford Dugger, Willie Esse, Woodrow Whitmire, Roscoe Turner, Ysabel Gonzales, Mike Capron, Nolan Ryan, Reid Ryan and Reese Ryan.
Mr. Reagan was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Reagan, on April 19, 1990; a daughter, Jenny Bess; and a grandson, Rocky Lee Reagan.
Survivors include his son, Rocky Reagan of Marble Falls; four grandchildren, Paul Bob Reagan of Valencia,  Calif., Lee Ann Barker and Nikki Martinez, both of Oakville, and Ned Thayer of Marble Falls; seven great-grandchildren, Trent Martinez, Oren Barker, Robert Martinez, Maylee Martinez, Amber Martinez, Wade Barker and Kelley Barker; and three sisters, Lucy Moore and Marjorie Bledsoe, both of Oakville, and Evelyn Seals of Beeville.

Blann
Mary (Viera) Harris Blann, 101, of Orange Grove died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Blann was born in San German, Puerto Rico. She received a master’s degree in home economics from Berea College in Berea, Ky. She managed the dining hall at Polytechnic Institute in San German for several years. In 1939, she moved with her husband and children to Dilley where she taught school for 35 years.
Mrs. Blann was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Harris; her second husband, Harry Blann; and one son, Fred W. Harris.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean H. (Sidney) Freeborn of Orange Grove and Sylvia H. (Dr. John Paul) Schulze of Corpus Christi; a daughter-in-law, Arline Harris of Dilley; a sister, Petra Viera of San Juan, Puerto Rico; two brothers, Pepin Viera and Henry Viera, both of San Juan, Puerto Rico; 12 grandchildren, Sharon (Dwain) Skrobarcek, Sidney (Leda) Freeborn Jr., Kathy (Jimmy) Strause, Lynn Weigand, Beth (Kevin Fetterman) Freeborn, Cynthia Schulze, Dr. Paula Schulze, Dr. John E. (Dr. Susan) Schulze, Debbie (Eric) Greve, Paul (Melissa) Harris, Nina Philyaw and Sherry (Jeff) Thiele; 21 great-grandchildren, Jarrett Skrobarcek, Gabriel Freeborn, Wesley Freeborn, Morgan Freeborn, Sidney Freeborn III, Doug (Shanna) Strause, Chris (Lola) Strause, Kate Strause, Megan Marlborough, Harley Fetterman, John Paul Schulze, Michael Schulze, Christopher Schulze, Marcus Schulze, Daniel Schulze, Jessica Greve, Alex Greve, Miles Harris, Tyler Harris, Dakota Harris and Natalie Thiele; two great-great-grandchildren, Bradley and Kayla Strause; a niece, Gloria Cuevas; and special friends, Estella Clark, Tina Clark and Catarina Carrillo.
The funeral was held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Dilley. Burial followed in the Dilley Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Sidney Freeborn Jr., Dr. John Edward Schulze, Paul Harris, Doug Strause, Gabriel Freeborn, John Paul Schulze, Christopher Schulze, Miles Harris and Jarrett Skrobarcek. Honorary pallbearers were all of her great-grandchildren.
