Flores
Roberto Flores, 65, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, in Corpus Christi.
Visitation was held Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home in Beeville. Rosary was recited Sunday at 7 p.m. at the same location. Funeral Mass was celebrated Sunday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Burial followed in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers were Julian Zamudio, Ruben Baltazar, David Lopez, Antonio Montez, George Cano, Pete Salas, Adan Martinez and Gilbert Arguijo.
Mr. Flores was born on May 12, 1938, to Epifanio and Julia (Gonzales) Flores in Tuleta. He married Emiliana Rodriguez in Beeville in 1959. He was a retired route person for a distributing company and a member of Our Lady of Victory.
He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Santos Flores, a sister, Elida Flores Cuellar, and a step-daughter, Rachel Montez.
Survivors include his wife, Emiliana Rodriguez Flores of Beeville; three sons, Roberto Flores Jr. and wife Ida of George West, Ruben Flores of Beeville, and Ramon Flores and wife Debbie of Clareville; two daughters, Rebecca Martinez and husband Ramon of Mineral and Rita Flores of Beeville; four step-daughters, Micaela Martinez and husband Roman, Theresa Garcia, Mary Jane Villarreal and Dolores Puga and husband Dionicio of Beeville; one step-son, Gil Montez and wife Neida of Houston; his mother, Julia Flores of Beeville; a brother, Rey Flores of Beeville; two sisters, Herlinda Treviño and husband Aurelio and Elizabeth Franco and husband Eddie, both of Beeville; 12 grandchildren; 24 step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.

Garza
Johnny T. Garza, 38, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at the Ennis Regional Medical Center in Ennis.
Mr. Garza was born on March 11, 1965, in Juarez, Mexico, to Guadalupe and Eva Luna Garza. He was reared in Waxahachie and Alvin where he attended school. He was employed by Diversified Ceramics in Alvin. He moved to George West, where he was in construction for seven years.
He married Elizabeth Zapata. In September 2002, they moved to Ennis. At the time of his death, he was the assistant manager of Subway. He was a member of the Faith Assembly Church.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Zapata of Ennis; three daughters, Claudia, Clarissa and Clara Garza of Ennis; his father, Guadalupe Garza of Moorehead, Minn.; his mother, Eva Garza of Ennis; four brothers, Efrain Garza and Nathan Garza of Ennis, Jose Garza of Rockett and Lupe Garza of Beaumont; four sisters, Betty Widener of Florissant,  Colo., Mary Martinez of Waxahachie, Naomi Garza and Cassandra Garza, both of Ennis; a grandmother, Nettie Luna of Phoenix, Ariz.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday in the Keever Chapel in Ennis, with the Rev. Kenneth Hill officiating. Interment was in the Chatfield Cemetery in Chatfield under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary.

McCelvey
Brett McCelvey, 45, of Dilley died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, in San Antonio.
Visitation was held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 23. Funeral services were at First Baptist Church in Cotulla at 2 p.m. Sept. 24. Interment followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Devine.
Pallbearers were Herb Bourquin, Jeff Friesenhan, Joey Friesenhan, Ronnie Friesenhan and Wayne and Wayde Swaim.
Mr. McCelvey was the son of James “Rex” and Minerva (Swaim) McCelvey. He is also survived by his daughter, Cassiday Ann McCelvey of San Antonio; three sons, Brett Jr., James Rex and Charles Houston McCelvey, all of Dilley; a brother, Lynn McCelvey and wife DaSha of Dilley; a niece, Lyndsey McCelvey of San Antonio; two nephews, Justin McCelvey of San Antonio and Lando McCelvey of Dilley; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.D. McCelvey of San Marcos.
Arrangements were handled through Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton.

Zepeda
Miguel “Mike” Zepeda, 78, of Corpus Christi died on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2003.
Mr. Zepeda served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. He assisted in the liberation of the Philippine Islands, and left the Army with an honorable discharge. He worked for Reynolds Metals Company until his retirement in 1984.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Yndalecio and Guadalupe Zepeda, and a brother, Joe Zepeda.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nina Zepeda of Corpus Christi; his daughters, Lupe Zepeda of New Knoxville, Ohio, Alma Zepeda of Houston, Rosie (Andres) Barboza and Debbie Tamez of Corpus Christi and Irma (Danny) Mendoza of Jourdanton; four brothers, Sylvestre (Angie) Zepeda and Albert (Elvira) Zepeda, all of Corpus Christi, Paul Zepeda of Sinton and Yndalecio (Yolanda) Zepeda of Three Rivers; two sisters, Beatrice Ortiz and Maria David (Daniel) Guerrero of San Antonio; six grandchildren, Alex Tamez, Nina Tamez, Michael Barboza, Christina Barboza, Stephanie Guana and Daphne Mendoza; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Samuel Gauna; and one sister-in-law, Juana Zepeda of Austin.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Home in Corpus Christi.
Rites of a Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Corpus Christi.

Andrews
Ed Andrews, 68, of Lagarto, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003.
Mr. Andrews was born in Clegg on Oct. 9, 1934. He lived in Lagarto for the past 21 years. He was a computer operator for the civil service and a member of the Lagarto Community Church.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Andrews of Lagarto; three sisters, Edith Goodwin and Polly Teltschik, both of Lagarto and Robbie Jene DeWilde of Champaign, Ill.; a brother, Everett Andrews of Mesquite; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements were under the direction of Dobie Funeral Home, Mathis.

Doty
Leslie Darold Doty II, 41, of Three Rivers, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, in a car accident.
Doty was an employee of the federal prison facility in Three Rivers.
Survivors include his parents, Leslie Doty Sr. of Cristoval and Ada Marie Doty of San Angelo and two children, Leslie Darold Doty III and Terri Doty of Arlington.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at 3 p.m. at Roberson Funeral Chapel in Three Rivers.

Geffert
Wilbert G. Geffert, 69, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, in a local hospital after a long illness. He was born March 31, 1934.
Mr. Geffert was retied from the state highway department.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Geffert of George West; two sons, Ronnie (Veronica) Geffert and Steven Geffert, all of George West; two daughters, Janet (Dennis) Copeland of George West and Donna (Doug) Larson of Burton, Mich.; three brothers, August Geffert Jr., Marvin Geffert and Leroy Geffert, all of George West; and five grandchildren, Theresa Copeland, DaOnna Copeland, Derek Larson, Courtney Larson and Brittany  LeBlanc.
Visitation was held Monday at the Roberson Funeral Chapel in Three Rivers. The funeral was Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Calliham Community Church in Calliham. Burial followed at the George West Cemetery.

Richter
Anthony W. “Tony” Richter, 72, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at his home following a long illness.
Mr. Richter was born on his grandfather’s ranch in Gussettville on Feb. 23, 1931, to Otto and Etta Richter. He completed high school in Alice in 1948 and graduated from the  Texas College of Arts and Industries at  Texas A&I University (now  Texas A&M-Kingsville) in 1952 with a bachelor degree in business administration. After college, Mr. Richter joined the United States Army and received an honorable discharge in 1954.
Mr. Richter married Patricia Farquhar of Marshall. He was employed by Tenneco for 22 years before retiring in 1974. He was active in the community by serving in many civic duties including fire chief and mayor of Southside Place, a suburb of Houston.
Mr. Richter returned to Alice in 1974 where he owned and operated a feed store.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Richter; and his parents.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas A. (Sheila) Richter of Alice and Rick L. (Kristin) Richter of Orange Grove; two daughters, Edie (Don) Burns of League City and Deeann Richter of Austin; seven grandchildren, Kenneth Richter, Mary Richter, Skyler Richter and Caitlyn Richter, all of Alice and Anthony P. Richter, Rachel Richter and Kelly Richter, all of Orange Grove; and a sister, Jo Etta (William) McCollum of Alice.
Rosary was recited Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Roberson Funeral Home Chapel in Alice. Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church of Alice. A military graveside service was conducted by United Veterans Burial Association in the Gussettville Cemetery in Gussettville.

Valdez
Porfiria “Pela” Z. Valdez, 65, of Three Rivers, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at Christus Spohn Shoreline in Corpus Christi.
Mrs. Valdez was born on Sept. 9, 1938, in Live Oak County to Francisco and Segunda (Muñoz) Zertuche. She was married to Alfredo Valdez and was retired from being the restaurant manager at Pic-A-Rib. She was a member of the First Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfredo Valdez; one son, David Elkins; and one grandson, Shawn Garza.
Survivors include one son, Juan Garza of Three Rivers; one brother, John M. Zertuche of Minneapolis, Minn.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Saturday and Sunday at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in Three Rivers. The funeral was held Monday at the First Assembly of God, with the Rev. Bill E. Stanley Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joe Caballero, Jerry Caballero, Julian Caballero, Tony Fairhurst, Joe Manuel Linares and James Caballero.

Anderson
Minnie May (Shafer) Anderson, 96, of George West, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003.

Mrs. Anderson was born Feb. 3, 1907, to George and Mary (Allen) Shafer of Lake Arthur, La. She married Harold E. Anderson on Sept. 6, 1941, in George West. She taught elementary school for 40 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in George West, where she served as church secretary, treasurer and attendance clerk. Mrs. Anderson was also active in the Pastor’s Aid Society, Missionary Society, WSCS, UMW and the Pollyanna Sunday school class. She belonged to the Oakville Chapter of the Eastern Star (No. 521), where she served as a past Worthy Matron. She was also a member of the Live Oak Study Club and a past volunteer for the American Red Cross, the Grace Armantrout Museum, and served as a Blue Angel volunteer for the George West Nursing Center.
She resided in George West since 1927.

Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two brothers.

Survivors include one daughter, Maribelle A. (Frank) Spellmann of George West; two grandchildren, Eric Ray (Andrea) Spellmann of Amarillo and Kathy Sue (Alan) Hessler of Vallejo,  Calif.; and six great-grandchildren, Quinn, Kelsey, Kaden, Kirsten, Chloe and Cross.

Visitation was held Friday, Sept. 19, at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West. The funeral was held Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in George West, with the Rev. Mel Hazelwood officiating. Nancy McKinney served as organist and Vicki Riser led the singing. Burial followed in the George West Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lamon Bennett, August Caron Jr., Chris Caron, Gene Riser, Jim Warren and Harry Wright. Honorary pallbearers were Tige Brown, Harry Linney and Richard May.

Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 266, George West, TX 78022.
