Garcia
Enrique Garcia, 79, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville following a sudden illness.
Survivors include four sons, Joe Garcia of New Braunfels, Esvardo (Felipa) Garcia and Enrique Garcia Jr. of Garland and Elias Garcia of Corpus Christi; five daughters, Evila (Albert) Perez of Twenty-Nine Palms,  Calif., Annie Baer of Havre, Mont., Estrella Garcia of Dallas, Erlinda (Raymundo) Lopez of Three Rivers and Rosa Maria Garcia of Carrollton; 25 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Thursday and Friday at Roberson Funeral Chapel. A graveside service was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Three Rivers Cemetery.

Hole
Marian Zella “Sue” (Copeland) Hole, 74, of Helena, Mont., died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, following a short illness. Mrs. Hole was born Oct. 5, 1928, in Mineral, Bee County, to Jesse R. and Willie Lavada (Evans) Copeland. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ. She lived in Mineral in her early years and moved to Three Rivers for a number of years before getting married and moving to Montana.
The funeral was held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Galloway & Sons chapel in Three Rivers, with Don  Jones officiating. Burial followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jesse Copeland, Dennis Copeland, Blake Copeland, Matthew Wagner, Mark Wagner, John Thomas McCumber and Michael Trbula.
Mrs. Hole was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, James Dee Copeland, Charlie Reagan Copeland and Bennie Edward Copeland; and two sisters, Weda Mae Moorman and Imogene Louise Tindol.
Survivors include three sisters, Maggie Ann Fudge of The Woodlands, Betty Joy Wagner of George West and Dorothy Mae (Dottie) George and husband Rex of Hereford, Ariz.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Ybañez
Ynez (Peña) Ybañez, 93, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at her residence in George West. She was born Jan. 21, 1909, in Oakville to Simon and Guillerma (Reyes) Peña. She married Pablo Perez Ybañez Sr. in Oakville in 1924.
Mrs. Ybañez was a homemaker and a member of the St. George Catholic Church. She was a gentle being who dedicated her life to her family. Her favorite pastimes were spending time with her grandchildren and caring for the plants in her garden.
Mrs. Ybañez was preceded in death by her husband, Pablo Ybañez Sr., in 1979; her parents; and two sons, Vicente Ybañez and Pablo Ybañez Jr.
Survivors include three sons, Benito (Martina) Ybañez and Cristoval Ybañez of George West and John (Gloria) Ybañez of San Antonio; three daughters, Frances (Raul) Gonzales and Elodia Leal of George West and Emma (Andres) Garza of Arlington; a sister, Maria Castillo of Corpus Christi; a brother, Brigido Peña of George West; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West. Rosary was recited Thursday at 7 p.m. at the same location. Mass was celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church in George West with Father Joseph Olikkara officiating. Interment followed in the St. George Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons Benito Ybañez, Roque Ybañez, Joey Leal, Rudy Gonzales, Edward Ybañez, George Garza and Robert Ybañez.

Armstrong
Philip Merlin Armstrong Jr., 36, of San Antonio died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002. Visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at the Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in George West. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the George West Cemetery, with the Rev. Sam Armstrong officiating.
Mr. Armstrong was born March 11, 1966, in Alice to Philip M. and Janie (Mills) Armstrong. He served in the U.S. Army, was self-employed at Manufacturing Electronics and was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents, Philip and Janie Armstrong of George West; a brother, Chris Armstrong of Dallas; and his grandmother, Patsy Mills of Corpus Christi.

Bowman
Oliver Paul Bowman, 75, of Flint, Mich., died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002. Visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in Three Rivers. A graveside service followed at the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Mr. Bowman was born Jan. 18, 1927 in Capac, Mich. He married Edith Burchull in Las Vegas, Nev., on March 17, 1955. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was retired from General Motors.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Bowman of Los Angeles,  Calif.; two sons, William Bowman of Fort Worth and Rex Bowman of Licaster, N.C.; one daughter, Bonnie Buettner of Canoga Park,  Calif.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Iver Bradley Bowman of Alexandria, Va.

Hoelscher
Edwin F. Hoelscher, 75, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, in a Corpus Christi hospital following an extended illness. He was a retired farmer and rancher and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Hoelscher of George West; four daughters, Lavern (Leslie) Williams of Aransas Pass, Virginia Hoelscher of Austin, Scharalene (Marshall) Carroll of Alamogorda, N.M., and Melinda Hoelscher of Naples, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Mary Susan (Garner) McCumber of George West; three stepsons, William R. Richter of Del Rio, James. L. Richter of George West and Arthur R. (Gayle) Richter of Austin; three sisters, Olga Hoelscher of San Antonio and Ernestine Lange and Leona Hailey, both of San Angelo; five grandchildren, Clinton Williams and Lerrin Williams of Aransas Pass, Justin King of Naples, Fla., Jordan Hoelscher of Alamogorda, N.M., and Lynn Yeats of Pflugerville; six step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited Sunday at 7 p.m. at the St. George Catholic Church in George West. Mass was celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at the same location. Burial followed in the St. George Catholic Cemetery in George West.

Martin
Mrs. Luceil (Blackmon) Martin, 95, of George West died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at Live Oak Nursing Center. Mrs. Martin was born Sept. 29, 1907, in Dinero to William David and Orie (Pugh) Blackmon. She married June Travis Martin on Oct. 19, 1929, in George West. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of The Good Shepherd.
The funeral was held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of The Good Shepherd in George West, with the Rev. Ben Wright officiating. Burial followed in the Gussettville Cemetery in Gussettville.
Pallbearers were David Altenhoff, Dwight Altenhoff, Terry Cole, Paul Dirks, Josef Martin and Robert Odin McWilliams.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, June Travis Martin, on Nov. 21, 1975.
Survivors include a son, Travis (Dita) Martin of George West; two daughters, Marjorie (Darvin) Altenhoff of Gruene and Billie June (Robert) Dirks of George West; two sisters, Bula Barry and Ann Fair, both of George West; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Contributions may be made to The Episcopal Church of The Good Shepherd Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1582, George West, TX 78022.

Carvajal
Florinda Carvajal, 42, of George West died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at a San Antonio hospital. Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West, followed by a Rosary this evening at 8 o’clock at St. George Catholic Church. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. George Church, with Father Joseph Olikkara officiating. Burial will follow at the George West Cemetery.
Mrs. Carvajal was born Feb. 5, 1960, in McAllen to Juan and Nina (Dominguez) Colunga of George West. She married David Carvajal on Oct. 18, 1976 in George West. She was a homemaker and member of St. George Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jacob David Carvajal; a grandson, Gabriel Isaiah Valadez; a granddaughter, Jasmine Nicole Valadez; and a brother, Juan Colunga Jr.
Survivors include her husband, David Carvajal; two daughters, Rhonda Jean Carvajal and Nina Marie Carvajal; three sisters, Catherine Colunga, Maria Zuniga and Delma Gutierrez; her parents, Juan and Nina Colunga; and two brothers, Jose Colunga and Rosendo Colunga, all of George West.

Hughes
Tula Mae (Holland) Hughes, 70, of Kingsbury died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Nov. 8.
Visitation was held Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Goetz Funeral Home in Seguin. Interment was Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Clegg Cemetery in Clegg with the Rev. David Eikenburg and Pastors Layne and Pamela Dietz officiating.
Mrs. Hughes was born Feb. 4, 1932, in Clegg to Delonia and Emma Mae (Birkett) Holland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Hughes; brothers, D.L. Holland and Elmore Holland; sisters, Agnes Work, Jewell Holland and Opal Holland; and a grandson, Davy Dubose.
Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Mae (David) Dubose of Kingsbury, Brenda Joyce (Kenneth) Uhr and Patricia Powell, all of Seguin; two sisters, Ethel (Wyatt) Rouse of Alvin and Bennie Hedrick of Arkansas; two brothers, Eugene (Teresa) Holland and James (Louise) Holland, all of Beeville; five grandchildren, Eric Uhr, Chelsie Uhr, Kimberly Dubose, J.D. Powell and Crystal Powell; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements were under the direction of Goetz Funeral Home, Seguin.

Moser
Johnny S. Moser, 66, a six-year resident of Bulverde, went to join his wife, Mary Alice, on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002. He was born in Three Rivers on Dec. 24, 1935, to Henry and Monika (Pfau) Moser. A former resident of San Antonio, and a teacher for the NISD, he had opened and taught at Holmes High School for more than 30 years. Mr. Moser was also a veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2001 Survivors include his daughters, Lynda Lawrence and her husband, Russell, and Cynthia Laljer and her husband, Charles, all of San Antonio; grandchildren, Ashlea Lawrence, Matthew Lawrence, Whitney Lawrence, Candice Laljer and Christopher Laljer; a brother, Henry Moser and his wife, Carol of Boerne; a sister, Anna Marie Bernsen and her husband, Leon of Robstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Monday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. with the recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. at Vaughan’s Funeral Home. The funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Three Rivers, with Father Peter Gajda as celebrant. Burial followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery. Simmons
Mary Lou (Lopez) Simmons, 54, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at Nix Hospital in San Antonio.
Mrs. Simmons was born Oct. 2, 1947, to Estella (Chapa) and Aurelio Lopez of Three Rivers.
She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Three Rivers, English congregation. She helped many friends and acquaintances to better understand her religious beliefs. She was a comfort to all and never turned anyone away in their time of need.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her husband, Heston Simmons; her mother, Estella Lopez; one son, Phillip (Dina) Simmons; two granddaughters, Sara and Salena Simmons; one sister, Adelita (Lopez) Conard; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses U.S. Hwy. 281.

Burell
Coley Burell, 73, of George West, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Christus Spohn Hospital, Beeville. Mr. Burell was born May 6, 1929, in George West to Albert H. and Anna Mussman Burell. He married Carolyn Massey on July 6, 1982, in New Braunfels. Mr. Burell was a ranch foreman.
He was a member of Church of Christ. He attended First Baptist Church in George West. His hobbies included hunting and fishing and he loved to work.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Burell of George West; a daughter, Shirley (Robert) Gruver of Allen; two sons, Dale Burell (Danette) Burell and Robert Burell, all of George West; a step-son, Leroy James (Kim) Phillips of New Braunfels; a step-daughter, Melissa (Dave) Pelz of Dripping Springs; three brothers, Hubert Burell of Uvalde, Hugo (Cornelia) Burell of Gonzales and Henry (Mary Jane) Burell of Marion; nine grandchildren, Anna Melissa Bogle-Melendez, Matthew Harris Bogle, Andrea Lynn Burell, Robert Burell Jr., Margarite Burell, Bartholomew Burell, Daralyn Burell, Sarah Burell and Layne Phillips; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Friday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in George West with the Rev. Bruce Irving officiating. Burial was at the George West Cemetery. Pallbearers were Leroy James Phillips, Larry Massey, Marcelino Loza, Matt Bogle and Bill Holland. Honorary pallbearer was Ike Houdmann.
