VIVIAN PENNEY MEYER
Mar. 26, 1909-May 25, 2003

Vivian Penney Meyer, 94, died at her residence in New Braunfels on Sunday, May 25, 2003. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 29, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels. Interment followed at the Fischer Cemetery at Fischer.

Mrs. Meyer was born to Lee Van Penney and Minnie (Otto) Penney on March 26, 1909 in Marlin. She married Eugene Louis Meyer on July 19, 1939 in San Antonio,  Texas. He preceded her in death on December 7, 1987.

Mrs. Meyer was a graduate of the Seton Infirmary School of Nursing in Austin,  Texas and was a charter member of the Church In The Valley at Canyon Lake,  Texas, where she was a member of the Friendship Circle. She also was a member of the Fischer Home Demonstration Club at Fischer.

Survivors include five nephews: Charles Hair and wife Anne of New Braunfels; Richard Penney of Ironton, Missouri; Aubrey Penney of Dallas; Howard Penney of  Washington, D.C. and his daughter Ashley Penney of Austin; and Jake Penney of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Memorial donations may be given to Hope Hospice at New Braunfels or to the American Heart Association.

Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home of New Braunfels is in charge of arrangements.

PAUL SELF

Jul. 17, 1939-May 27, 2003

Paul Self, 63, of Bellville died Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at a Bellville Hospital. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud with Rev. Randy Osborn officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Hill Cemetery in Lott.

Mr. Self was born July 17, 1939 in the Cedar Springs Community of Falls County to James T. and Ava Lou Griffin Self. He spent the first part of his life in Falls County and had lived the past 33 years in the Houston area. He married Charlotte Nettles on July 4, 1957. He was a Baptist and worked as a distributor for The Houston Chronicle.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Self of Bellville; four sons, Paul Wayne Self of Spring, Donald Self of Kingwood; Gary Self of Bellville; and James Self of Houston; one daughter, Pamela Golden of Kingwood; his mother, Ava Lou Self of Rosebud; four brothers, James Oliver Self of Ft. Worth, John Self of Lott, David Self of Columbia, Missouri, and Cecil Self of China Spring; four sisters, Ardath Friudenberg of Marlin, Ann Thrasher of Lott, Mary Lou Renfro of Lott, and Elaine Hudson of Cameron; and eight grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Lott or to the Clover Hill Cemetery Association.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home.

Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home of Rosebud is in charge of arrangements.

FRED KNECHT AND WINIFRED RUTKOSKI KNECHT

Memorial service set for June 14, 2003

A memorial mass will be held to honor the lives of Fred Lewis Knecht and Winifred Mildred Rutkoski Knecht on June 14, 2003 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marlin,  Texas at 11:00 a.m.

Mr. Knecht passed away March 9, 2003 in Fruita, Colorado. He was born December 12, 1910 in Otto,  Texas to German immigrants Fred George Knecht and Dora Schafer Knecht. He met and married Winifred Rutkoski on October 19, 1937 in Marlin,  Texas.

His sisters were Mary Wellbrock, Leona Menzer, Ledia Luedke, and Amelia Martinez. His brothers were Eddie Knecht, Walter Knecht, and Henry Knecht.

When WWII started, Mr. Knecht wanted to join as his two brothers did, but since he had a family and had his aging parents to take care of, he stayed home and bailed hay for all the families around since many of the men had gone to war.

After the war was over, he decided to try a new kind of work, so he got a job in construction; his first job was the building of the Marlin hospital. Then he moved to New Mexico and different states, working for Farnsworth and Chambers for many years. In 1960, he got into the L.P. gas business in Moab, Utah, where he worked as a terminal plant manager for Suburban Gas until he retired in 1975. He lived the remainder of his life in Moab, working on his farm and enjoying many hunting and fishing trips with his beloved wife, Winifred. They had just celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Mrs. Knecht passed away October 30, 2002 in Moab, Utah.

She was born in Marlin on April 30, 1919 to Dominick and Rosalee (Cherherski) Rutkoski. She was the youngest of two sisters (Marion Renshaw and Beaulah Smith) and three brothers (Nick Rutkoski, Joe Rutkoski and Lloyd Rutkoski. Her parents and sibling preceded her in death.

She spent her youth in Central  Texas and always spoke of the wonderful times and many happy memories, including her first job working in the  Texas cotton fields.

Fred and Winifred Knecht are survived by four children, Retha Waldrop and husband Robert of Estancia, NM, Clinton Knecht and wife Jordanayne of Albuquerque, NM, Larry Knecht and wife Paula of Emory, TX, and Ruth Ames and husband David of Moab, Utah; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Mr. Knecht's youngest brother, Henry Knecht of Pasadena,  Texas, is also a survivor.

All relatives and friends are welcome to attend this service.

JOSHUA NOLAN WOOD

Nov. 30, 1999 - May 26, 2003

Funeral services for Joshua Nolan Wood, 3-year-old son of Casey Shane Wood and Amanda Cooper Wood of Joaquin,  Texas were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 30 at Watson and Sons Chapel, in Center,  Texas. The Rev. Randy Smith and the Rev. Elmer Mathews officiated. Burial was in Joaquin Cemetery.

Joshua died May 26, 2003, in Joaquin, the result of an accident. He was born Nov. 30, 1999, in Nacogdoches. He attended the United Methodist Church in Joaquin.

In addition to his parents, survivors include a brother, Ethan Wood of Joaquin; grandparents, Nolan and Liz Cooper of Joaquin and John A. and Debra Wood of Hennessey, Okla.; great-grandparents, Mary Cooper of Joaquin, Leland and Lois Holland of Hennessey, Hilde Vance of Ames, Okla., and Don and Tina Wood of Enid, Okla.

Joshua is also survived by his aunt and uncle, Jackie and Lois Cooper of Marlin.

WILBERT EDWARD TOY

Aug. 24, 1915-Jul. 13, 2003

Wilbert Edward Toy, 87, of Marlin died Sunday in a Marlin hospital. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at Powers Chapel Cemetery near Rosebud with Dr. Richard Jenkins officiating.

Mr. Toy was born August 24, 1915 in War Eagle, Ark. to Robert Lee and Mattie Hill Toy. He married Mary K. Roberts on October 9, 1943 and moved to Falls County in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and worked as a nurse's aide for Waco V.A. Hospital for thirty years. He was a member of Marlin Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. #152, the A.F.G.E. #1822, and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of Cedar Springs United Methodist Church.

Mr. Toy is survived by his wife, Mary K. Toy of Marlin; one son, Robert Edward Toy Sr. of Marlin; one daughter, Kathy Darlene Bledsoe of Dallas; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home of Rosebud was in charge of arrangements.

LOLA HICKOK

May 28, 1922 - July 27, 2004

Lola Faye Hickok, 82, died Tuesday, July 27,2004 at her home in Ulysses, Kansas.

She was born on May 28,1922 in Falls County,  Texas, the daughter of James Vester and Willie (Weldon) Hamilton,

She graduated high school from Chilton High School and graduated from Austin Business College in Austin,  Texas. She worked for the  Texas Welfare Department in Austin and Comanche and worked at the First Baptist Church, in Brownsville,  Texas, where she met her husband, James Richard Hickok, in 1949. They were married August 7, 1949 in Brownsville.

A Ulysses resident since 1951, she was a partner in running the family farm with her husband.

She was a longtime member of the First Southern Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Civic and Study Club, and was a board member of the Grant County Library, Grant County Museum, Loaves and Fishes and the Grant County Senior Center, all at Ulysses, Kan.

Her husband preceded her in death on April 25,1986. One brother, James Darrell Hamilton, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son Jim Hickok and wife Melanie of Ulysses, Kan. Two daughters Nancy Young and husband Ron of Ulysses, Kan.; Carol Nave and husband Bill of Houston. A sister-in-law Diane Hamilton of Houston, two nephews Darrell Hamilton of McGregor, and Brian Hamilton of Houston. Five grandchildren, Jamie Morgan and husband Chris, Todd Young, Tim Young, Becky Leikam, and Sarah Nave. One great granddaughter, Shiloh Morgan.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, July 31, 2004,10 a.m. at Shelton Memorial Christian Church, Ulysses, Kan. with Rev. Bill Harrold, Rev. Barry Durkee, Rev. John Zobel, and Rev. Dana Wood officiating.

Burial followed at the Ulysses Cemetery, Ulysses, Kan. with services by Ulysses Order of the Eastern Star #471.

JO ANN DAVENPORT

Sept. 7, 1938 - July 13, 2004

Jo Ann "Jo" Davenport, age 65, of Austin, formerly of Marlin, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2004. She was a faithful employee of Austin Heart Hospital and was an inspiration to all who knew her.

She was born Sept. 7, 1938 in Chilton ,  Texas.

Davenport was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and a friend who had a deep Christian faith and who inspired and cared for all people around her.

She was raised in Marlin and was a graduate of Marlin High School where she was Homecoming Queen and voted Most Beautiful. She married J.B. Davenport of Rosebud and lived in many parts of the world as a faithful wife and mother.

Davenport was predeceased by her parents, Mel and Cullie Louise Beck of Marlin.

She is survived by her three children, Cindy Janca and husband James of Conroe, Mike Davenport and wife Pam of Katy, and Jill Russell and her husband Jeremy of Austin; five grandchildren,  Taylor Janca, Chandler Janca, Payne Davenport, Clayton Davenport and Nathan Russell; her sister, Norma Leggitt and husband Don of New Braunfels; two brothers, Garland Byrd and wife Barbara of McGregor, and Gary Beck of Austin; and many other loving family members.

Services were held in Austin,  Texas on July 16,2004, with burial at Austin Memorial Park.

KATHRYN FORTENBERRY

March 6, 1943 - Nov. 21, 2004

Kathryn Elizabeth Hackel Fortenberry, age 61, of Ft. Worth, formerly of Marlin, entered into rest on Sunday, November 21, 2004. Graveside services were held Saturday, Nov. 2 at Hillcrest Cemetery with Rev. Stan Ortner officiating

Mrs. Fortenberry, born March 6, 1943 in Jacksonville, Florida, was the daughter of Leroy and Lola Belle (Maxie) Hackel. She graduated from Marlin High School, and attended Southwest  Texas State University in San Marcos. She worked for a number of years for the FDIC and the United States Bureau of Engraving and Printing.

She was a certified Graphoanalyist and a charter member of the International Graphoanalyist Society. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, loved NASCAR and played word games internationally on the Internet.

Her son Blake Edward Fortenberry preceded Mrs. Fortenberry in death.

Survivors include her son, Lee Carl Fortenberry of Arlington; grandson: Kirby Lee Fortenberry of Plano; brother, Ric Hackel and wife Linda of Ft. Worth; special friend, James Bradley of Palmer and a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends

Adams Funeral Home in Marlin was in charge of arrangements.

ANNA MAY FALCO

Dec. 11, 1925 - April 18, 2009

Anna May Randazzo Falco, age 83, of League City, formerly of Marlin, entered into rest on Easter Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marlin with the Rev. Walter Dhanwar as celebrant. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 P.M. Friday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Julian Tyboroski officiating. The family will receive friends before and after the Rosary.

Anna was born December 11, 1925 in Kansas City, Missouri to Nunzio and Rosalia Restivo Randazzo. She was a homemaker, however during World War II, she worked for North American Aviation to help with the war effort. She was a 30 year resident of Falls County and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in League City. She was a great cook, loved to babysit her grandchildren and loved to shop for them. Anna enjoyed playing Bingo, Pinochle and being a part of the Bunco group. She also loved to dance, but her greatest joys in life were, God and her family, especially her kids and grandkids. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.J. Falco in 1995, a daughter, Vincent Tacker in 2005, a son, Anthony J. Falco, Jr. in 1968 and a grandson, Christopher A. Falco in 1993.

Survivors include daughters, Rosie Falco Tull and husband Sammy of Lorena, Ann Falco Paulissen and husband Timothy of League City; sons, Joseph A. Falco and wife Connie of League City, Nunzio P. Falco and wife Cynthia of League City, Charles Falco and wife Shawna of Dickinson; brother, Nunzio Randazzo, Jr. and wife Angelina of Bryan; sister, Paula Randazzo Owings and husband Richard of Ft. Worth; 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

Pallbearers will be Anthony Tacker, Adam Tacker, Jason Falco, Anthony Joseph Falco, III, Jacob Tull, Matthew Paulissen, Michael Paulissen, and Carl Falco.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Corpora, Anthony Roppolo, and Christopher Paulissen.

Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
