Mary Lindsey Davis, 91, formerly of Beaumont, passed away Monday, Aug. 30, 2004 at Dogwood Trails Manor in Woodville.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. in the Magnolia Cemetery in Woodville. Visitation was held Wednesday, Sept. 1 from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m in the funeral home.
Mary was born Sept. 9, 1912 to William Andrew and Mary Ella Griffin Lindsey in Woodville. She was a graduate of Kirby High School and Chenier’s Business School. She was retired from  Texas Metal Works, Inc. where she was office manager for over 42 years and was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Davis in 1986. She is survived by her nephew, Frank Lindsey, Jr and wife Jean of Jasper; sister-in-law, Fannie Peavy of Lufkin; and great nephews and niece, Bill Lindsey, Brad Lindsey and Brenda Ayer.
Services were under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.

James W. Autrey
September 13, 2004
IVANHOE- James W. Autrey, 66, passed away September 6, 2004 at his residence.
Born August 4, 1938 in Palestine,  Texas to Joe B. Autrey and Willie Ethel Hill. He married Sarah Louise Lambert September 8, 1958 in Fort Worth,  Texas. He lived in Pasadena before moving to Ivanhoe 4 years ago. He was a retired stationary engineer for El Paso Energy and he was U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Louise Autrey, two sons, Terry Autrey and wife Tina of Cleveland and Stephen Autrey and wife Mildred of Porter, one daughter, Debbie Benfer and husband David of Florence, S.C., one sister Louise Bradley of Orange, thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pis-gah Cemetery in Woodville, with Brother Ken Lewelling officiating, under the direction of Riley Funeral Home in Woodville. Visitation was Tuesday evening.

Glenda Celestine
Glenda Celestine, 55, of Berkley, California passed away August 23, 2004 in California.
Glenda Celestine was born July 29, 1949 in Fort Hood, TX to Vera Williams Celestine Simpkins and Jordan Celestine, both deceased of Indian Village, Livingston,  Texas.
She is survived by her sisters, Minnie Comero from LaPine, Oregon, Diana Mann from Berkeley, California, Lisa Chandler from Lufkin, TX; brother, Jeffery Celestine from Rusk, TX; uncles, Mark Sylestine, Hobby Williams and George Williams all from Indian Village, Livingston, TX; nieces Jennifer Celestine, Christina Celestine, Cheyenne Celestine; nephews, Matthew Celestine, Kevin Jennings and Cody Jennings, all from Rusk, TX. Brother-in-law, Kevin Mann from Berkley, CA; sister-in-law, Scharlotte Celestine of Rusk, TX.
A memorial service will be held September 13, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Heck officiating.

June Willis Cowart
September 13, 2004
June Willis Cowart, 70, of Colmesneil, passed away September 4, 2004 at her residence.
Born March 14, 1934 in Woodville, to John Everett Willis and Vinnie Alice Sims. She was a retired nurse aide, minister aide and a homemaker, she was a 1949 graduate from K.H.S. in Woodville, and a member of Agape Church in Colmesneil.
She is survived by her son, Grayson Cow-art and wife Michelle and granddaughter Amanda Cowart all of Cat Springs, TX, one sister, Virginia Harrison of Colmesneil and two brothers, John Curtis Willis of Friendswood and Ben Willis of New Ulm, TX and a multitude of friends and loved ones. Funeral service was held Monday, September 6, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Agape Church in Colmesneil, with Brother Robert Martin officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Woodville, under the direction of Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County. Visitation was held Sunday at the church.
Pallbearers were Leslie Goss, Jay Walston, Terry Wall, Paul Coggins, Travis Smith and James Parrish.
Services were entrusted to Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.

Herman Lyle
September 13, 2004
Herman E. Lyle, 76 of Woodville, passed away Monday, September 6, 2004 at Tyler County Hospital.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, September 8th at 2:00 p.m. in the Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville.
Herman was born April 5, 1928 to Ebertt Thomas & Winnie C. Reed Lyle in Hall County, Georgia. He had lived in Woodville since 1987 and was retired from UAWACO Pipefitters Union 211 of Houston.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Lyle of Woodville; sons, Herman Lyle, Jr. of Wallaceville, Bennie Mullins of Tulsa, OK, John Mullins of Chicago, IL and Richard Mullins of St. Louis, MO; daughters, Susan Renfro of Delaware, OK, Katherine Angelo of Denver, CO, Anita Mitchell and Penny Garrett both of Wallaceville; sister, Lillie Montgomery of Warner Robins, GA and Charlett Moore of Macon, GA; thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.
Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.

Louise Mann Roberts
Louise Mann Roberts, 100, of Cairo, GA. passed away September 1, 2004 at Thomasville, GA.
Born November 10, 1903 in Woodville, to Dr. James Scott and Lou Ettie Triplett Mann, she was a graduate of Livingston Tx. High School and attended Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College in Nacogdoches,TX.
Mrs. Roberts married Dr. P.H. Blalock, Jr. who passed away in 1929. She later married John B. Roberts, Jr. The Roberts family moved to Cairo in 1946 where they established the HEPO Gas Company which they maintained until after Mr. Roberts died in 1963. She was an active member of the Gardenia Garden Club and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Cairo Woman’s Club. She was a laboratory technician at the Cairo Hospital until her retirement in 1975. She received her training in laboratory procedure in Dallas, TX and was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother, James Scott Mann, Jr., a sister, Hellen Mann Ervin, a daughter, Mannette Blalock Rushin and a sin, Carlisle Blalock.
She is survived by her granddaughters, Anne Allen, Cynthia Nickerson, both of Cairo, Rebecca Rushin of Dallas; Sally Blalock Seidel of Sacramento, CA, Patricia Louise Blalock Tinnin of Van Alstyn, TX, Carol Blalock Arnold of Dallas and Lyle Roberts Blalock Beatty of Philadelphia; great grandchildren, Amy Phillips; Anthony Scott; Stephen, Robert, Carlisle and Jacob Tinnin; Whitney, Stephen, Anna and Lyle Arnold; Croom, Alex, William and Claire Carlisle Beatty; daughter-in-law, Sally Blalock Bernays; six nieces and nephews, James Scott Mann, III, Lynn Mann Burgess, Jan Mann Smith, Louise Ervin, Mary Wilson Chopin, and Jim Mann Ervin.
Funeral service was held Saturday, September 4, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel in Cairo, with Rev. Dr. Jim Spencer officiating. A graveside service was held Monday, September 6, at 11 a.m. at the Magnolia Cemetery in Woodville under the direction of Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County. Visitation was held Monday morning at the funeral home.

Tedie Edith Die Fortenberry
Tedie Edith Die Fortenberry “Granny”, 86, joined her Lord on Monday, September 6, 2004, at 9:45 a.m.
Ted was born November 1, 1917 at Shady Grove, a small community near Woodville, TX. She was the daughter of Elias M. Die and Mary Elizabeth Grimes. She was a member of the Christian Fellowship Worship Center in Beaumont,  Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elias and Mary Die, brothers: Grover, J.D. and Ray “Cupid” Die, sister Helen  Taylor and great granddaughter Meridith Williamson.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Floyd Fortenberry of Woodville, twin daughters, Jean Williamson and husband John, and Joan McCown and husband Larry; son, Floyd Errol Fortenberry and wife, Susie; grandchildren and spouses, David and Allison Williamson, Susan and Brady Tigert, Michael and Janet McCown, Gregory and Julie McCown, Patrick and Melissa McCown, Sherry and Walter Boudreaux, Jason and Michele Fortenberry, Miranda and Tadd Priddy; great grandchildren, Malarie Williamson, Matthew and Brenden Tigert, Matthew McCown, Emily and  Jackson McCown, Austin, Blake and Kirsten McCown, Raven, Eden and Scarlett Boudreaux, J.T., Alan, Madison Fortenberry,Trevin Sechler, Cole and Riley Priddy; brother and sister Lerlie Perry and Joseph Die; sisters-in-law, Annette Die, and Joy Die; many loving friends, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2004 at 4 p.m. at the Riley Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Vernon McGarvey, Rev. Alan Davenport, and Rev. Gary Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Woodville. Visitation was held Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael McCown, Patric McCown, Gregory McCown, David Williamson, Walter Boudreaux, Tadd Priddy and Austin McCown. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Staff Sgt. Jason Fortenberry in Iraq and Brady Tigert of Wichita Falls, TX.
Services are entrusted to Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.

Ola Belle Brandin
August 30, 2004
Ola Belle Brandin, 77, of Woodville passed away August 22, 2004 t the Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, Texa.
Born January 10, 1927 in Moss Hill,  Texas to Harmon and Mollie Wheeler Ainsworth, she lived in Tyler County for many years. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her loving family; son, Wayne Brandin of Woodville; sisters, Edna  Woods of Colmesneil, Bobbie Knight of Chester, Verna Powell of Silsbee and Faye  Jones of Woodville; brother, James Ainsworth of Beaumont; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred S. Brandin.
Funeral Service was held Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at 10AM at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Brother James Stephens and Brother Buren Williams officiating. Burial followed at Allison Cemetery near Warren. Visitation was held Monday evening at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers were Bubba Haynes, Ernest Haynes, Mike Jones, Brant Norton, Jerry Knight and Donnie Patrick.
Services were entrusted to Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.

Martha ‘Marti’ Petty Childress
August 30, 2004
Martha “Marti” Petty Childress, 76, of Woodville passed away August 22, 2004 at the Woodville Convalescent Center.
Mrs. Childress was born August 9, 1928 in Jacksonville,  Texas to Fred and Ethel Boone Petty, Sr. She grew up in Conroe,  Texas and graduated from the University of  Texas in 1950 as a teacher. She was a devoted member of the Woodville United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Arthur Childress in 1991.
She is survived by her loving family; daughter, Karen L. Kelly and husband John Kelly, III of Woodville; son, James C. Childress, Sr. of Des Moines, Iowa; brother Fred B. Petty, Jr. and wife Dorthy of Maryland; grandchildren, Amanda Gooden, Tracy Lamon, James Childress, Jr., Crystal Childress and Dillon A. Childress; great grandchildren, Kynlee Gooden, Shelby Lamon, Garfield Lamon III and Zowie Childress.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eldon Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Woodville. Visitation was held Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be James C. Childress, Jr., Chris Gooden, Garfield Lamon, Charles Stecher, Bill Weeks and Robert Carl.
Services are entrusted to Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.

James A. ‘Jim’ Clark
August 30, 2004
James A. “Jim” Clark, 79, of Woodville, passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at his residence. Funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 20 at 11 a.m. in the Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with burial in Magnolia Cemetery in Woodville. Officiating was Dr. Raymond A. Parker and Brother John A. Spanhanks. Serving as pallbearers were Joe Smith, Wayne Meredith, Gary Mattingly, Vernon Castille, Jim Willis and Pete Perlitz.
Visitation was held on Thursday, Aug. 19 from 5 - 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Jim was born December 25, 1924 to Clayton J. and Esther Smith Clark in Houston. He grew up in the Heights of Houston, graduated from John R. Reagan High School. He served in the United States Navy Signal Corps from 1942 to 1945. He was a 32nd degree mason initiated in to the Reagan Masonic Lodge on Dec. 12, 1947. Jim’s collegiate education began at the University of Houston in 1946 where he completed the pre-law requirements. He then attended South  Texas School of Law where he completed his law school work. He was sworn in by the Supreme Court of  Texas on Aug. 29, 1951 in Austin. He was a member of the Houston Bar Association as well as the American Bar Association. Jim served as president of the Timber Grove Civic Club in the mid 50’s. He served as president of the South  Texas Law School Alumni in the early 60’s. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Ben Hur Shrine Temple in Houston. Jim and Connie moved to Tyler County in 1967 where he opened his law practice. Jim was very active with the Tyler County Dogwood Festival. He served as a kingsman, a director since 1970, and served as executive director for five years and was a member of the permanent board. He received the James E. Wheat award. Jim was a former president of the Woodville Lion’s Club and Tyler County Chamber of Commerce. He served many years on the executive administrative board of the Allen Shivers Library & Museum. He worked with the Tyler County Fair and was Ambassador of the Fat Stock Show & Rodeo in Houston. He was instrumental in obtaining scholarships for several Tyler County young people. Jim concluded his professional career having served several terms as Tyler County’s Criminal District Attorney.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife of 37 years, Connie Clark of Woodville; son, Steve Clark and wife Gwen of Austin; daughters, Linda Clark Reid and husband Ben of Houston and Sharon Clark Crenshaw of Woodville; grandchildren, Connie Blankenship of Los Angeles, CA, Trey and wife, Beth Crenshaw of Nacogdoches, Jennifer Crenshaw Goolsby and husband Casey of Tyler, Kristopher Clark Crenshaw of Brenham, Lauren Clark Damon and husband John of Austin and Walker Clark of Austin.
Services were under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.

Ruby M. Hopkins
August 30, 2004
Ruby M. Hopkins, 98, of Chester, passed away Monday, Aug. 23, 2004 at Dogwood Trails Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 25 at 3 p.m. in the Enon Baptist Church in Chester in burial in Seamans Cemetery in Chester under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville. Officiating is Brother Larry Trest and Brother Jacob Conner.
Visitation will begin Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ruby was born July 8, 1906 to Clinton and Virginia Handley Powell in Camden and had moved to Woodville in 1976 having spent most of life in Chester. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church in Chester.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Hopkins, sons, Gene Hopkins and Joe Hopkins and grandchildren, John Hopkins, Virginia Ray and Gail Hollingsworth. She survived by her daughter-in-law, Sue Hopkins of Woodville; brother, James Hopson “Buck” Powell of Kansas; sister, Dorothy Lewis of Lufkin; 5 grandchildren, Cherie Norsworthy, Samantha McDaniels, Wynn Hopkins, Paul Hopkins and David Hopkins, 13 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren; one step grandchild, Linda Burns, 3 step great grandchildren and 4 step great-great grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.
