James ‘Sonny’ Evans
October 4, 2004
James “Sonny” Evans, 70, of Warren passed away Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004 at Tyler County Hospital in Woodville.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 24 at 11 a.m. in the Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with burial in Campground Cemetery near Woodville. Officiating was Brother Delbert Lamb, Brother Kenneth Cauthen and Brother Jimbo Swinney. Serving as pallbearers were Michael Evans, Greg Evans, Dan Rawls, IV, Paul David “Beaver” Greer, Waylon Griffin, Robert Wise, Allen Reid and Phillip Stewart.
Visitation was held on Thursday, Sept. 23 from 5 - 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Sonny was born July 5, 1934 to Lindsey and Magdalene Read Evans in Warren. He was a lifelong resident of Warren and was a retired home builder. He had served six years on the Warren School Board and two years on the Tyler County Equalization Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lindsey and Magdalene Evans; and his son, Todd Evans on June 24, 1996. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Pat Tucker Evans of Warren; daughters and son-in-law, Dale and Randy Gardner of Colmesneil and Loriann and Gary Ellis of Warren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jiggs and Melissie Evans of Warren, Steve and Robbie Evans of Woodville and Richard and Pat Evans of Warren; sister and brother-in-law, Sadie and Bobby Greer of Warren; grandchildren, Tucker Ellis, Rossi Gardner and Annie Ellis.
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 7272, Greenville Avenue, Dallas,  Texas 75231.
Services were under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.

Samuel V. Young
October 4, 2004
Samuel V. Young, 89, of Woodville, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at Dogwood Trails Manor in Woodville.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 23 at 11 a.m. in the Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville. Graveside services were Friday, Sept. 24 at 11:30 a.m. in the Cuthand Cemetery in the community of Cuthand. Officiating was Brother Jim Turner. Serving as pallbearers were his grandsons, Clayton Morrison, Stephen Germer, Stephen Leggett, Bonner Forkner, Samuel David Young and Andrew Forkner.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, Sept. 22 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Sam was born Sept. 3, 1915 to George W. and Alzora Crittenden Young in Cuthand. He was a former longtime resident of Beaumont and had lived in Tyler County for over twenty years. He was retired owner for 45 years of Young Cement Finishing Company. He began contracting in Beaumont and was proud to have been involved in the construction of landmarks such as St. Elizabeth Hospital, Parkdale Mall, and the Petroleum Building in downtown Beaumont. He also worked on projects in Austin, Lufkin, Galveston and into  Louisiana. Sam was known as the “best” in his field in this area. He lived in Colmesneil and spent the last twenty years cattle ranching, a hobby he loved so dearly. He was an active member of Bethany Baptist Church where he enjoyed attending with his family. Sam most recently had been a resident of Dogwood Trails Manor where he joined his lovely wife, Louise. He was proud to be a 32nd and 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Shriner and enjoyed Eastern Star events with his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Louise Palmer Young of Woodville; son and daughter-in-law, David and Mary Young of Lampassas; daughters and sons-in-law, Sammie and Larry Germer of Beaumont/Austin, Dottie and Bruce Morrison of Dallas, Becky and Wayne Leggett of Katy and Debbie and Joe Forkner of Lumberton; sister, Geneva Moore of Slaton; fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the nursing staff of the Dogwood Trails Manor and Odessy Healthcare for their kindness and loving care.
Memorials may be made to the Bethany Baptist Church, Rt. 2 Box 37, Colmesneil, TX. 75938.
Services were under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.

James C. Henry, Jr.
October 4, 2004
Services for James C. Henry, Jr., 59, of Woodville were held Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Wyman Roberts Chapel in San Augustine. Interment was in the Patroon Cemetery in Shelby County. Officiating was Rev. Buren Williams and Chaplan Mike Neil.
Pallbearers were David Upchurch, Sr., Jesse Upchurch, Brian Henry, David Upchurch, Jr., Dene Baxter, Nicholas Upchurch and Howie Smith.
He was born in Center on November 19, 1944 to James Curtis Henry, Sr., and Iris Jewel (Judy) Caldwell and entered into rest on September 18 in Woodville. He was a truck driver, a veteran of The  Texas State Guard, and a member of The First Assembly of God of Hillister.
Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Crosby Henry of Woodville; children, Regina Henry of Beaumont, Rhonda Upchurch of Alvarado, James Henry of Sherman, Michelle Harvey of Beaumont, Rachel Brewer and Rebecca Brown both of Thayer, Missouri and Tana Henry of Woodville; step-children, Montana Brinkley and William Alfred Wright, IV both of Bastrop and Cody Lymoin Reynolds of Nacogdoches; brothers, Raymond Henry of Woodville and Youmans Arrington of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Mildred Powell and Betty Armstrong both of Woodville, Barbara Frankens of Diboll, Chris Loeder of Tyler, Suzette Ellis and Jeanne Hadnot both of Chicasha, OK; twenty give grandchildren; special friend, Debra Baxter.Services under the direction of Wyman Roberts Funeral Home of San Augustine.

Arthur Welsh
December 6, 2004
Arthur Welsh, 90, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004 at his residence in Warren. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Cleveland.
He was a native of Indianapolis, Indiana and lived in Warren a number of years.
He is survived by his wife, Jessamine Welsh of Warren; daughters, Esther Lair of Visalia, California, Maggie Carnes of Cold Springs, Valinda Gordon of Silsbee; sons, Norman Welsh of Spring, and Wally Welsh of Vidor; a sister, Rose Bloomer of Deer Lodge, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Local arrangements entrusted to Coleman’s Tyler County Funeral Home, Woodville.

George Eugene ‘Jap’ Holcomb
December 6, 2004
Funeral services for George Eugene “Jap” Holcomb, 76, of Town Bluff was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with interment following in Knupple Cemetery. Visitation began at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Holcomb died Nov. 24 at his residence in Town Bluff. He was a native of Voth and a retired lineman for IBEW Local 390. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the US Army.
Survivors include four daughters, Debra Bonnin and husband, Boyd of Beaumont, Donna Brown and husband, Rodney of Orange, Bonnie LaFave and husband Tim, of Chino, CA, and Penny Quartemont and husband Shane of Orange; two sons, Roger Holcomb and Marc Holcomb and wife, Rhonda of Town Bluff; sister , Dorothy Clevenger of Goodrich; three brothers, Jerry Holcomb of Houston, S.M. Holcomb of Lumberton and James Holcomb of Livingston; twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Loatis M. Crawford

Funeral services for Loatis M. Crawford, 72, of Silsbee were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004 at Fred Pentecostal Church, interment followed at Fred Community Cemetery. Visitation was held at 5 p.m. Thursday at the church in Fred.
Mrs. Crawford died Nov. 23 at her residence in Silsbee. She was a native of Hardin County and a lifelong resident of the Silsbee area. Mrs. Crawford was a loving wife and mother.
Surviving Mrs. Crawford is her son, Ronnie Crawford of Silsbee; two daughters, Linda Crawford and Jeanette Roach of Silsbee; brothers Lewis Hooks of Buna and John Hooks of Livingston; sisters Evelyn Ford of Kountze and Maxine Whisenant of Silsbee and numerous grandchildren.

Martha Ann Gore

Funeral services for Martha Ann Gore, 71, of Fred was held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee with Reverend Richard Vaughn officiating. Interment followed in Franks Branch Cemetery in Fred. Visitation was held at 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gore died Nov. 23 at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital.
Martha was a native and longtime resident of Fred. She was a loving wife and mother.
Mrs. Gore is survived by her husband Robert Clayton Gore of Fred; son, Lyndon Gore and wife, Pam of Duncan, OK; daughter, Sharon Wright and husband, Neal of Kountze; two sisters, Yvonne Davis of Alvin and Margaret Smart of Liberty; brother Douglas Hutto of Granbury; two grandchildren, Christopher Gore and Matthew Gore of Duncan, OK and a great-granddaughter, Halle Gore of Duncan, OK.

Freelan Milt Henson

Freelan Milt Henson, 78, born on July 6, 1926 in Nederland, passed away on Monday, Nov. 22, 2004 in Houston. Freelan was a Merchant Marine and served during WWII. He was retired from the Beaumont Police Department.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Henson of Woodville; daughters, Carolyn Carmona and husband John of Village Mills, Peggy Arrington and husband, Clyde of Spring; brother, Charlie Henson of Beaumont; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.
Visitation was held Wednesday, Nov. 24 from 1 till 4:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Graveside services followed the visitation at 4:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Services were under the direction of Forest Lawn Funeral Home.

Pearl Davis
December 6, 2004
Pearl Davis, 95, of Chester, passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004 at the Woodville Convalescent Center in Woodville.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. in the Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Chester. Officiating will be Reverend R. C. Tillery and Reverend George M. Standley. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Davis, Bryan Davis, J. R. Davis, Wayne Davis, Jarred Davis, Valentin Espino, Cody Davis and Trent Davis. Honorary pallbearers are men of Caney Creek Church.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, Nov. 30 from 5 - 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pearl was born Jan. 8, 1909 to Tom and Ethel Massey Warren in Barnes. She was a longtime resident of Chester and was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John Davis in 1983. She is survived by her son, John Wayne Davis of Chester; granddaughter, Amanda and husband Alex Espino of Chester; grandsons and wives, Mike and Betty Davis and Bryan and Cheryl Davis all of Chester; great grandchildren, J. R., Jess and Wayne Davis, Cody, Valentin and Alexa Espino, Jarred and Trent Davis and sister Anna Woodal, Wayne and Lori Davis and great-great grandchildren, Kali, Jaci and Brayden.
Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.

Kevin M. Best
December 6, 2004
Kevin M. Best, 46, of Woodville passed away Nov. 26, 2004 at Holiday Pines Manor.
Kevin was born Dec. 5, 1957 in Port Arthur. He was a 1976 honor student from Nederland High School. He was a lab technician for the U. S. government and also highly experienced in the computer field. He was retired from the U. S. Navy and while he was in the Navy, he was aboard the U. S. S. Saratoga stationed in Mayport, Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Best of North Hero, Vermont; son, Steven Best of North Hero, Vermont; father and step-mother, French Earl and Sara Best of Woodville.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in North Hero, Vermont.
Services were entrusted to Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.

Delores Aline Sheffield
December 6, 2004
Delores Aline Sheffield, 72, of Woodville, passed away Nov. 29, 2004 at the Tyler County Hospital.
Born Aug. 8, 1932 in Town Bluff to Brown and Agnes Pearce Sheffield. She lived in Tyler County for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Warren.
She is survived by her loving family, sisters, Bernice Pickett and husband, Eddie of Warren and Evelyn Gautreaux and husband, Paul of Kountze; thirteen nephews and thirteen nieces; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Mark Smith and Brother Ken Cauthen officiating. Burial will follow at Frank’s Branch Cemetery in Fred. Visitation was held Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Ferguson, Kenny Ferguson, Barry Ferguson, Rocky Odom, Louis Sheffield, Eddie Pickett, Mike Eaton and Michael Pickett.
Services were entrusted to Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.
