Bobbie W. Hamerly
Bobbie W. Hamerly, 83, of Nederland passed away Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004 at Park Place Medical Center in Port Arthur.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10 at First Baptist Church in Nederland with Dr. David Higgs officiating. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Magnolia Cemetery in Woodville. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pat A. Riley Funeral Home in Nederland.
Bobbie was born June 19, 1921 to Ernest and Jewel Hamerly in Orange. He was a graduate of Kirby High School in Woodville. A member of the “Greatest Generation” Bobbie enlisted immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor and completed training at the Air Corps Technical School at Sheppard Field, Texas, Galveston Army Air Field, and the Douglas Aircraft Co., in California. During WWII, he served with the 527th Squadron of the 86th Fighter Bomber Group. He received the Good Conduct Medal, The Distinguished Unit Badge, two Overseas Service Bars, and four Bronze Battle Stars for campaigns in Sicily, Naples-Foggia, RomeArno and Air Combat Balkans. He returned home to Tyler County to marry his childhood sweetheart, Frances Dean of Woodville. Bobbie was honorably discharged in 1945 at Randolph Field, Texas, with the rank of Corporal.
Bobbie had lived in Nederland for the past fifty-four years. He was retired from Unocal (Pure Oil) after more than thirty-four years of service. He was a life member of the American Legion Post No. 493 and had served as Post Commander and past 2nd District Commander. He also was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and life member of Masonic Lodge No. 1368. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Nederland and a member of the church’s Silvertones senior adult choir.
Survivors include four children; son, Mike and his wife Carol of Suffolk, Virginia; daughter Sandi Evans and her husband Mike of Paradise; son, David and wife Debbie of Austin; son, Don and wife Terry of Austin; dear friend Margaret Haynes of Nederland; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-three years, Frances; a sister, Sherry Huston of Atlanta; a brother, Eddie Ray of Woodville and his parents.

Lucy Faye Thompson Arline

Lucy Faye Thompson Arline, 48, of Hillister went to be with the Lord on Nov. 5, 2004.
Born April 29, 1956 in Hillister, Lucy is the adopted daughter of Florine Sharp and Joe Moye. She lived in Hillister all of her life. She was a bus driver for Woodville ISD with 15 years of service. She was a member of the Little Baptist Church, Secretary of Mission for Little Baptist Church and a member of the Woodville Band Booster.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Arline of Beaumont; daughter, Markenishea Thompson of Beaumont; granddaughter, Andrianna McCrue of Beaumont; sisters, Sylester Scott and husband, Scotty of Houston, Barbara Guidry and husband, Ellitt of Beaumont, Joyce Bodwin and husband, Richard of Beaumont, Christy Brown of Beaumont, Minnie Busby of Beaumont, and Alice Busby of Silsbee; brothers, Benjamin Moye and friend, Jackie of McAlester, OK, Oscar Moye and wife, Joan of Beaumont, and L. B. Sharp of Beaumont; God children, Edward Barlow, Shanequia Barlow and Victoria Richards all of Hillister; special nieces, Charlotte “Neicy” Scott and Donea Barlow; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends who she loved dearly.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 13 at 11 a.m. at Little Baptist Church in Hillister with Rev. Bobby Cruse officiating. Burial will follow at Little Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 2 - 7 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home.

Cleo Garnet Norton

Cleo Garnet Norton, 91, of Woodville passed away Nov. 6, 2004 in Louisiana.
Born Jan. 13, 1913 in Call Junction to Albert and Laura Cartee Morgan. She lived in Tyler County for many years and was a longtime active member of the Hillister Baptist Church. She enjoyed her church, family, friends, helping in her husbands logging business, gardening and hunting. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, W. L. “Lee” Norton of 62 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Lee Norton of Tyler County and a host of family and friends.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday evening at the church.
Serving as pallbearers will be Trey Allison, Michael Allison, Glenn Boseman, Don Morgan, Ron Poindexter, and Jay Kennesson.
Services are entrusted to Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.
Melvin Lavar Dodge

Melvin Lavar Dodge, 82, of Warren passed away Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Fred under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville. Graveside services are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Apache, OK.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, Nov. 9 from 5 - 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Melvin was born Nov. 16, 1916 to David and Sarah Dodge in Central, Arizona. His early education was in Pima and Safford, Arizona. He later graduated from Hemphill College as a diesel engineer in Berkley, California. He served in the Navy in WWII as a submarine sailor. Pearl Harbor was bombed on Dec. 7 and he was sworn in on Dec. 10. He served the whole four years. He was aboard one of the submarines that scouted the Japanese coast in preparation for dropping the atomic bomb. After the war was over he fulfilled a lifelong dream and learned to fly. He was a fixed wing and helicopter pilot too. He first went to Liberia West Africa in his flying career as a bush pilot, but later started flying for oil exploration companies and flew in Lybia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia and Lebanon. He went to Liberia with 600 flying hours and came home with 14,000. He had no children of his own, but loved everyone elses. They all called him Uncle Mel. He took them fishing and tried to teach them to be good American Citizens. He loved to fix things, and after his retirement he became “Mr. Fix-It” for the whole community.
Mel was preceded in death by his parents, David and Sarah Fergueson Dodge and his brother Homan and his sister Wanda. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Alberta, whom he married May 15, 1941; two brothers, Quentin and wife Marjorie, Bruce Kay and his wife, Fern; two sisters, Rotha Young and Zelma Thomas, all of Oregon; a host of nephews and nieces.

Charlie Gilder

Charlie Gilder, 65, of San Augustine, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004 at his residence. Funeral service were held on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Woodville. Burial followed at the Moss Hill Community Cemetery in Woodville. Visitation was held on Friday at the funeral home chapel.
He was a native of Woodville and lived in San Augustine for 10 years, he was employed in the logging industry.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories; a very special and loving friend, Diann Garrett of San Augustine; his mother, Mrs. Gretie Gilder of Doucette; daughters, Gretchen White of Houston, Tenishia Gilder of Woodville, Tamika Foster of Hillister; step-daughters, Celena Garrett of Nacogdoches, and Lakeshia Davis of San Augustine; sons, Charles Ray Gilder of Pt. Arthur, Glendon White of Woodville; step-son, Sgt. Michael Davis of Kileen; sister, Annie B. Scott of Woodville; brother, R. Z. Gilder of Doucette; and 6 grandchildren.
Services were entrusted to Coleman’s Tyler County Funeral Home in Woodville.
Tommy Jordan

Funeral services for Tommy Jordan, 66, of Spurger, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004 at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee, interment followed at Town Bluff Cemetery. Visitation was held at 5 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Jordan died Oct. 28 at Tyler County Hospital in Woodville.
He was a loving father and papaw. A native and a current resident of Spurger, he was a former longtime resident of Silsbee. Mr. Jordan was retired from Conex Construction Company.
He was preceded in death by daughter Belinda, parents Elton and Essie Jordan and brothers Nathan and Fletcher Jordan. Tommy is survived by son, Tommy Keith Jordan and wife Pam of Silsbee; daughters, Patty Hatton and husband Carroll of Spurger and Julie Neubauer and husband Wayne of Dickinson; sisters, Corrie Elmer of Spurger and Rachel Mangum of Lufkin; grandchildren, Brooks Jordan, Megan Jordan, Brittany Hatton, Shelby Hatton, Katlyn Neubauer, Carlyn Neubauer and Tyler Neubauer.
Services were entrusted to Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee.
Kevin Baird

Kevin Baird, 46, of Beaumont died Oct. 26, 2004. A native of Temple and resident of Beaumont since 1960, Kevin was an attorney.
His mother, Alta Beatrice Baird preceded him in death. He is survived by his father, Don Baird and stepmother Barbara of Colmesneil; brother, Keith Baird and his wife Jo of Colmesneil; sister, Cherie Coker of Newton; stepsisters, Benita Citrano and her husband A. J., Pam Loftin, and Jeannie Johnson and her husband Dennis all of Chester, and Chyrl Pounds and her husband Todd of Woodville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29 at Broussard’s Mortuary in Beaumont, graveside services followed at 4:30 at Cochran Cemetery in Hank’s Creek area. A gathering of family and friends were held Thursday evening, Oct. 28 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Mortuary.

Billie Lou Shiflet

Funeral services for Mrs. Billie Lou Shiflet, 76, of Rockland are set for 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004 at the Madisonville Funeral Home. Rev. Fred Yountz, pastor of Rockland Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Madisonville City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Billie Lou Shiflet was born July 18, 1928 in Livingston. She lived most of her life in Madisonville. She was an L. V. N. and worked at the Madison County Hospital, the infirmary at the Ferguson Unit and at the Madisonville Nursing Home. Mrs. Shiflet was a member of the First United Methodist Church of madisonville. She and her husband moved to Rockland about eight years ago to be near their children. Mrs. Shiflet was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Lindsey, Sr. and Willie Mae (Wilson) Lindsey, a daughter, Davie Fain, and two brothers, Bobby Chambless and Joe Lindsey, Jr. Mrs. Shiflet died Oct. 24 at Tyler County Hospital in Woodville.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Garvin Shiflet, Sr. of Rockland; son, Garvin Shiflet, Jr. and wife Renee’ of Rockland; daughter, Linda Mary Shiflet of Rockland; brother David Lindsey of Sheridan, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Charles Yargo, Jenna Hicks, April Shiflet, Shawn Shiflet and Emily Overton and four great grandchildren, Candi Yargo, Ashley Yargo, Brent Johnson and KayLee Lynn Hicks.

Emma Michelle “Missy” Harrison Ryals, 35, of Fred passed away Oct. 29, 2004 at her residence.
Born Feb. 4, 1969 in Woodville to Lester and Sleeta Eddings Harrison, she lived in Tyler County all of her life. She was a devoted mother, daughter, sister and friend.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Gary Harrison.
She is survived by her loving family; mother, Sleeta Sue Harrison of Fred; daughter, Beonka Michelle Ryals of Fred; sisters, Linda Gale West of Fred and Chrislynn Kaye Harrison of Hillister; brothers, Lester Gary Harrison, Jr. of Hillister and Gary Felix Harrison of North Carolina; a host of other family and friends.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. at the First Pentecostal Church of Fred with Brother Jim Chance and Brother Jerry Peck officiating. Burial followed at Fred Community Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday at the church.
Serving as pallbearers were James West, Isaac West, Lester Harrison, E. J. Eddings, Pete Eddings, Rusty Eddings, Dewayne Hutto and Tony Gore. Honorary P. B. James Eddings, Dewayne Freeman and David Eason.

Calvin Coolidge Sullivan, Jr.

Calvin Coolidge Sullivan, Jr., 52, of San Diego, California died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004 at his residence.
He was born July 21, 1952 in Silsbee to the late Calvin Coolidge Sullivan, Sr. and Lula Mae Sullivan Varner. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran.
Funeral service will be Saturday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Silsbee. The funeral service will be preceded by a two hour visitation from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church.
He is survived by his wife Barbara Sullivan; two sons, Jonathan Sullivan and Terry Sullivan both of Long Beach, California; four brothers, Clifford Sullivan of Long Beach, California, Jerry Sullivan of San Antonio and John Sullivan and Kenneth Sullivan of Silsbee; three sisters, Carolyn Jean Blackmon of Silsbee, Gwendolyn Warren of Kountze, and Lisa Sullivan of Beaumont; five grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
