September 13, 2004
Funeral service was held Friday, September 3, at the First United Methodist Church in Corrigan for Martha Margaret Edens Carter, 89, with Pastors Judy Anderson, Charles Sutton and Sidney Carter Williams officiating. Burial followed in Union Springs Cemetery.
She was born August 21, 1915 in Burke, the daughter of W.F. and Cordelia Edens. She lived and taught school in Corrigan. She and her husband, John, moved to the Canyon Lake area in 1970. She was a member of St. Francis By The Lake Episcopal Church, where she was a member of Daughters of the King. She was also a member of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Carter died on Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James B. Edens and Earnest A. Edens; and a sister, Mary Lena Beckwith.
Survivors include her husband, John H. Carter of Canyon Lake; and son, Joe Edens Carter of Canyon Lake; her daughter and son-in-law, Cordelia and Sidney J. Gardner of Moscow; four grandchildren, Mary Margaret Stevens and husband, Brad, of Dayton, Ernest E. Rowe Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Livingston, John Gregory Hafer and wife, Aurora, of Bellaire and Sidney Carter Williams and wife, Holly, of Pollok; great-grandchildren, Chad and Justin Rowe, Michael Stevens and Aaron and Megan Hafer; and numerous other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis By The Lake Episcopal Church, Canyon Lake; American Cancer Society; First United Methodist Church, Corrigan or Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Shepherd.

Cunningham
September 13, 2004
Beth Jean Cunningham, 78, died Sunday, August 29, 2004, in Memorial health System of East  Texas in Lufkin.
She was born February 22, 1926 in Beloit, Wisconsin, the daughter of Elmer and Bessie Minor Norem.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Gwen Mead, Janice Backenger, Janet Moffet and Betty Norem; and son, David McElroy.
Survivors include her two sons, Guy McElroy and Dennis McElroy; two daughters, Paulette Matalas and Patricia Carter; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Cochran Funeral Home, Livingston, was in charge of arrangements.

Hickman
September 13, 2004
Funeral services were held at Pace Funeral Home, Thursday, September 2, 2004, for Kenneth E. Hickman, 58, of Lufkin, with the Rev. Frank E. Hood officiating. Interment followed in  Jones Prairie Cemetery in Leggett.
He was born on May 22, 1946 in Livingston to parents Oscar and Clara  Jones Hickman. He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam era. Mr. Hickman was a former City of Livingston employee and retired as Postmaster of the Leggett Post Office, serving from 1970 to 2002. He worked for a period of time as a PBX operator for Memorial health System of Lufkin.
Mr. Hickman died Friday, August 27, 2004 in Cripple Creek, Colorado. In addition to his parents, two step-mothers, Ethel Hickman and Bertha Hickman; and a step-brother, Louis 'Mack' Kilgore, preceded him in death.
Survivors include Mike Hartman of Lufkin; step sister-in-law, Janet Kilgore of Diboll; step-sisters, Jeannie  Johnson of Salt Lake City, Utah, Eloise Wells of Livingston and Rosalee Wells of Pineland; step-brothers and sisters-in-law, Ruben and Mary Kilgore of Pineland and Algie Lee and Wanda Kilgore of Diboll; cousin, Doug 'Bubba' and Irene  Jones of Livingston; uncle, Jessie  Jones of Zavalla; special friend, Adam Davis of Conroe; several nieces and nephews; and other cousins.
Pallbearers were Lonnie Kilgore, Ronnie Kilgore, Donnie Kilgore, Jonnie Kilgore, Buck  Johnson and Travis Christoph.
Pace Funeral Home, Livingston, was in charge of arrangements.

Keisler
September 13, 2004
Funeral services for Nelson Efford Keisler, 80, were conducted Monday, August 30, 2004 at Cochran Funeral Home, with the Rev. Frank Aragon officiating. Burial followed in  Jones Prairie Cemetery in Leggett. military honors were provided by VFW Post 8568.
He was born August 31, 1923 in Walker County, the son of Efford Daniel Keisler and Mary Ann Hollingsworth Keisler. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Keisler died Friday, August 27, at his residence in Moscow. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gregory Nelson Keisler; brother, George Fee.
Survivors include his wife, Suvella Keisler; daughter, Sheila L.  Jones of Diboll; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda K. and Ben Waggoner of Onalaska; son, Stephen N. Keisler of Moscow; sister, Ellen Ray of Montgomery; brother and sister-in-law, Alford and Twilla Keisler of Anadarko,  Oklahoma; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Marshall Perry, Joshua Keisler, Willie Meadows, James Purvis, Rickie Mann and Charlie Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Sparks, David Ray, Ben Waggoner, Jim Turner, Billy Meadows and Robert Aragon.
Cochran Funeral Home, Livingston, was in charge of arrangements.

Slankard
September 13, 2004
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2004 for Lynda Slankard, 56, of Batson, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Batson with the Rev. Carlton Bailey officiating. Interment followed at Guedry Cemetery.
She was born June 12, 1948 in Beaumont, the daughter of Cecil and Pauline Slankard. She graduated from Hardin High School and attended Sam Houston State University. Slankard worked in Mt. Calvary Church Library and was loved dearly by her family.
She died in Liberty after an extended illness.
Survivors include her parents, Cecil and Patty Slankard of Batson; and brother, Cecil E. Slankard Jr. and wife, Brenda, of Moss Hill.

Wilkinson
September 13, 2004
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 29, 2004 in Sheppard Funeral Home, Copperas Cove for Paul Wilkinson, 79, with the Rev. Frank Somers officiating. Burial followed in Copperas Cove Cemetery.
He was born July 30, 1925 in Baytown, the son of John Arden Wilkinson and Lillie Cherry Wilkinson. Mr. Wilkerson was retired from the U.S. Army, having served in the 2nd Armored Cavalry. His military honors include the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Army Occupation Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and Bronze Star Medal. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Copperas Cove and Masonic Lodge No. 137, Mahomet.
Mr. Wilkinson died Thursday, August 26, in Scott &  White Hospital, Temple. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Fay Harrell Wilkinson; and his parents.
Survivors include several cousins and numerous friends.
Masons served as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to Masonic Lodge No. 137, Mahomet, P.O. Box 21, Copperas Cove,  Texas 76522.

Clark
September 13, 2004
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2004, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel for George Franklin Clark, 74, with the Rev. Don Wilkey officiating. Burial followed in San Jacinto Memorial park in Houston.
He was born November 7, 1929 in Houston, the son of Joseph Harry Clark and Mildred Louise Dietz Clark. Mr. Clark served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Clark died Friday, September 3, in Livingston. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene Clark; and brother, Joe Clark.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Karen Clark of Collierville, Tennessee; sons, Glenn Clark of Monroe,  Washington and Rodney Clark of Roque River, Oregon; granddaughters, Brittany Clark of Collierville, Tennessee and Katherine Clark of Monroe,  Washington; grandsons, Paul Clark and Christopher Clark, both of Collierville, Tennessee; sister, Agnes Walker of Baytown; sister and brother-in-law, Blanche and Paul McClanahan of Highlands; brother and sister-in-law, James Richard and Carol Clark of Puyuallup,  Washington; step-son and daughter-in-law, Cleo and Johnetta Proctor of Livingston; step-daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Doyle Creekmore of Houston; step-grandson and wife, Trevor and Rhonda Proctor of Kansas City, Missouri; step-granddaughter and husband, Valerie and Tom Vogt of Houston; step-granddaughter, Stephanie Railsaback of Austin; six step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers were Billy Walker, Bubba Walker, Asa Ray Walker and Paul McClanahan.
Cochran Funeral Home, Livingston, was in charge of arrangements.

Damon
September 13, 2004
Funeral services for Marie Damon, 72, were held Friday, September 3, 2004, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Frank Hood officiating. Burial followed in Peebles Cemetery.
She was born September 30, 1931 in Houston, the daughter of Earl Wesley Rankin and Agnes Lee Shirley Rankin.
Mrs. Damon died Wednesday, September 1, 2004, in Pineridge Health Care in Livingston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Damon; and her parents.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, James and Gloria Damon of Bacliff; daughters, Peggy Hughen of Baytown and Betty Navarro of Magnolia; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Evon and Doug Ward of Livingston; sisters, Ruby Kegan and Louise Chalker, both of Livingston, Barbara  Jackson of Center and Gloria Albright of Corrigan; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers were Robert Baker, Jimmy Ward, Mike Richardson, Brandon Rice, James Allen Damon and Clint Ward.
Cochran Funeral Home, Livingston, was in charge of arrangements.

Dillon
September 13, 2004
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 4, 2004, at Pace Funeral Home for Bertha Dillon, 92, of Dallardsville, with the Rev. Mitchell Murphy officiating. Interment followed at Camp Ruby Cemetery.
Mrs. Dillon was born July 28, 1912 in Fuqua to parents Jasper "Jap" and Emma Blankenship Murphy. she married Herman Dillon on March 21, 1932 in Polk County and he preceded her in death on June 28, 2002. For many years she was employed with Piggly Wiggly in their courtesy booth.
Mrs. Dillon died Thursday, September 2, 2004 in Silsbee. In addition to her husband, a son, Herman 'Butch" Dillon; a daughter, Dorothy Tyler; three sisters and three brothers preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Minnie Merryman of Livingston; sister, Winnie Hall of Silsbee; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Dillon Reeves of Livingston; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mike Murphy, Rusty Jones, Arthur Earl Johnson, Alan May, John Cessac and Tommy Williford. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Kyker and Ronald Seymour.
Pace Funeral Home, Livingston, was in charge of arrangements.

Leviness
September 13, 2004
Graveside services for Helen Frances Leviness, 57, of Rye, were conducted on Friday, September 3, at Romayor Cemetery, with the Rev. Clyde Somers officiating.
She was born on September 29, 1946 in Spring, the daughter of James B. and Arllie J. Smith. Mrs. Leviness died on Monday, August 30, 2004.
Survivors include her husband, Willie Gene Leviness of Rye; children, Donna and James Dowdell, Renee and Bodink Chereene, Mark and Elaine Leviness, L. Dean Cummings, Patricia and frank, Frances and Mitch Hobbs; brother, Eli Smith; sisters, Era Shinn and Millie Leach; 11 grandchildren, Jamie, Kevin, Russell, Chelsea, Colby, Joey, Victoria, Alex, Aaron, Shannon and Wyatt; and four great-grandchildren, Dillon, Dalton, Harley and Seth.
Her grandchildren served as pallbearers.
Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, was in charge of arrangements.
