OTILA MARTINEZ

Funeral mass was celebrated for Otila Martinez, 75, of Lockney Friday, May 7, 2004 at San Jose Catholic Church. Reverend Jim McCartney was celebrant. Burial was in Lockney Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Lockney.

Mrs. Martinez died Thursday, May 6, 2004 at Lockney Health and Rehab

She was born on September 5, 1928 in Lagrulla to Anastacio and Rosalia Charles. She married Simon Martinez September 4, 1948 in Bryan. He preceded her in death in July 1990. She was a longtime Lockney resident and enjoyed sewing for the community, crocheting and was a very good cook. She was a member of the San Jose Catholic Church and a member of the Society of Guadalupanas.

She is survived by three sons, Simon Martinez and wife Olga of Lockney, Eddie Martinez and wife Margaret of Waco and Paul Martinez of Lubbock; four daughters, Yolanda Martinez, Velia Martinez and Veronica Naranjo and husband Alex all of Lockney and Lucy Garza of Pharr; two brothers, Vincent Charles of Mission and Joe Charles of Lockney; two sisters, Catalina Vanegas of Waco and Rosalinda Villarreal of Lubbock; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice Hands of West  Texas, P.O. Box 1118, Lockney, TX 79241

ALLAN GROSS

Services for Allan Gross, 70, of Petersburg were held Monday, May 24, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church in Petersburg. Reverend Ted Wilson officiated. Burial was in Carr's Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home.

Mr. Gross passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at his residence in Petersburg.

He was born on October 28, 1933 in Hale County to Fred and Eula Mae Lotspeich Gross. He attended Sandhill Schools and graduated from Floydada High School in 1951. He grew up in the Sandhill Community and has farmed in Harmony Community near Petersburg, for 45 years. He married Alice Scott on July 1, 1989 in Petersburg. He was a member of Petersburg Co-op Gin and First United Methodist Church in Petersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Gross of Petersburg; one son, Mark Gross of Sedalia, Missouri; two daughters, Terri Thompson and husband, Mike, of Plainview and Kristi Gross of Dallas; one step-son, Michael Goodwyn and wife, Kaki, of Shallowater; three step-daughters, Lisa Buie of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Trena Lechleitner, and husband, Logan, of Waxahachie and Stefany Northcutt of Amarillo; his mother, Eula Mae Gross of Friona; four brothers, Dan Gross of Hobbs, New Mexico, Jerry Gross of Sequim,  Washington, Thacker Gross of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Lonnie Pat Gross of Cleveland, Tennessee; two sisters, Mary Sue Fowler of Bovina and Olive Hinton of Floydada; and eight grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Area Community Hospice Foundation, 3109 Olton Rd., Ste. C, Winchester Plaza Box 5087, Plainview, Tx 79072 or to a favorite charity.

BILLY RAY HORTON

Funeral services for Billy Ray Horton, 69, were held Wednesday in Lemons Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jim Ritter, pastor of Seth Ward Baptist Church officiated. Burial was in Parklawn Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home.

Mr. Horton died Friday, May 14, 2004, at his residence.

He was born March 20, 1935, in Floydada. He served with the military from 1957-78 and fought in the  Vietnam War. He lived most of his life in Floydada and was a truck driver.

On July 15, 1978, he married Leila  Johnson in Floydada. She died June 1, 1995.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Cureton of  Jefferson City, Tenn.; three stepdaughters, Melody Jay and Candy Collins, both of San Antonio, and Bonni Rains of Austin; 3 nieces, Deanna Rodgers of Plainview, Janie Sue Aberegg of Eastland and Gay Nell Huffin of Abilene; several nephews; and a close friend, Harry Whitaker of Plainview.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Holt and Sidney McCray and a brother, Edgar Horton.

Memorials are suggested to Seth Ward Baptist Church Sanctuary Fund.

RALPH RUCKER

Funeral services for Ralph Rucker, 83, of Amarillo and formerly of Floydada, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2004 at First Baptist Church of Floydada with Reverend Anthony D. Sisemore officiating.

Burial will be held in the Floyd County Memorial Park under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

Mr. Rucker died Monday, May 24, 2004 at the BSA Hospice in Amarillo.

He was born on June 5, 1920 in Childress to Erve and Myrtle Bethany Rucker. He graduated from high school in Childress. He married Patricia Mary Davidson on January 8, 1944 in Warrington, England. He moved to Floydada in October 1951 and to Amarillo in March 2003.

He served in England with Civil Service Technician Detachment from 1942-1944. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp from 1944-1946 having served in England and Guam during World War II.

He was the owner of Rucker's OK Tire Store in Floydada. He was the original co-founder of the Floydada Boy Scout Troop, lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, sponsor of Floydada Baseball and Little League and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Floydada, where he was a member of the Auditorium Class.

He was preceded in death by his wife on January 3, 2004, his parents, a brother, J. W. Rucker and two sisters, Dealva Henson and Faye Gaines.

Survivors include three children, Max Rucker and wife, Cheryl of Amarillo, Linda Woodall and husband, Woody of Clovis, New Mexico and Patrick Rucker and wife, Kathy of Amarillo; one brother, Troy Rucker of Redding, California; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family suggest memorials to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Panhandle Branch, 2201 Civic Circle, Amarillo,  Texas 79109; the Epilepsy Foundation Great North  Texas, 2906 Swiss Avenue, Dallas,  Texas 75204-5929 or to the First Baptist Church Exodus Fund, P.O. Box 610, Floydada,  Texas 79235.

DEAN MORRIS

Memorial services for Dean Morris, 70, were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview. Mark Umstot and Reverend Don Robertson officiated.

A private burial was held before the service under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Lockney.

Mr. Morris departed this life on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Covenant Hospital in Plainview.

He was born on October 15, 1933 in Chillicothe to Harpie Eugene Morris and Oleta Belle Green Morris. He graduated from high school in Chillicothe in 1951 and moved to Floydada from Plainview in 1962. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean War. He married Linda Lamphere on April 18, 1998, in Dallas. He retired from farming in 1997 and was a member of the Lockney Longhorn Booster Club and College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview.

He was preceded in death by his father, his wife, Linda Morris, on December 14, 2003; two brothers, Bobby Frank Morris and Ronald Eugene Morris, and two granddaughters, April Ann Morris and Kristin Laurel Morris.

He is survived by his mother, Oleta Morris of Plainview; two sons, Lindan Morris and wife D'Lyn of Lockney and Shad Morris of Tulsa, OK; two daughters, Adeana Kiely and husband Don of Austin and Shele Tidwell of Camden, Arkansas; one brother, Doyle Morris of Farwell; four sisters, LaNeta McLain and husband Gene of Plainview, Etoy Chapman of Iowa Park, Kitty Umstot and husband Richard of Lubbock and Cecelia Morris of Duchess County, New York; and nine grandchildren, Austin Campbell, Taler Kaufman, Andrew Kiely, Amanda and Brenna Tidwell, Trevor and Tanner Morris and Jade and Gunner Morris.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials to the Dean Morris Memorial Fund, which is to support Lockney Athletics. Donations can be made at City Bank, 201 N. Main St., Lockney, TX 79241 or sent to Adeana Kiely, 6212 LaNaranja Lane, Austin, TX 78749.

ALFREDO S. ALEMAN

Alfredo S. Aleman, 54, of Floydada passed away Friday, July 30, 2004 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

He was born on June 10, 1950 in Sinton,  Texas to Jose and Julia Aleman. He married Mary Zamora on February 17, 1967 in Lubbock. He was a warehouse clerk for Excel Meat Co. for 16 years. He was a life long resident of Floydada and member of St. Mary Magdelan Catholic Church in Floydada.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Aleman and one brother, Abel Aleman.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Aleman of Floydada; his mother, Julia Aleman of Dublin,  Texas, one son, Alfredo Aleman Jr. of Floydada, one daughter, Elizabeth King of Floydada; one brother, Adelfino Aleman of Floydada; four sisters, Gracie Salinas, Victoria Aleman, Frances Cantu, all of Dublin,  Texas and Elida Martinez of Floydada and four grandchildren.

Rosary was at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Moore-Rose- White Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 2, 2004 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Floydada with Father Arsenio Redulla, officiating. Burial was in Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home in Floydada.

GAYLE DANIEL

Funeral services for Gayle Daniel, 69, of Floydada will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 5, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church in Floydada.

ARLIE EMERT

Arlie Emert departed this life on Friday, July 30, 2004 at the age of 93 years.

He was born on September 4, 1910 in Floyd County,  Texas to Fredrick Thomas and Nancy Catherine Emert. He married Juanita Breeland on March 5, 1939 in Matador. He was a life long resident of Floydada and was a farmer until he retired in 1972. He was a member of the Doughtery School Board in the 1940s.

He was preceded in death by his wife on October 22, 2003.

He is survived by one son, Mike Emert and wife Linda of Amarillo; one daughter, Arlene Emert of Coulterville, California. Other survivors include numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services were at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 2, 2004 at the Moore-Rose- White Memorial Chapel in Floydada with Reverend Tommy Ewing, officiating. Burial was in the Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

The family suggests memorials to a charity of choice.

RUBY L. HARTMAN

Services for Ruby Lorene Hartman, 88, of Lockney were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2004 in First Baptist Church. Dr. Carl Momen, pastor, officiated with Reverend David Hartman assisting.

Burial was held in the Lockney Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Lockney.

Mrs. Hartman died Sunday, August 1, 2004 in Lockney Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on October 5, 1915 in Newlin. She attended school in Hedley, Paducah and Buck Creek. She married M. W. "Shorty" Hartman on November 5, 1932 in Wellington. They moved to the Lone Star community of Floydada County from Silverton in December of 1949.

She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.

Her husband of 66 years, two sons, Melvin Ray and Timothy James and a daughter, Joyce Louise, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, David and spouse, Frankie of Lubbock; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice Hands of West  Texas, Lockney Health and Rehab Center, W. J. Mangold Memorial Hospital or a charitable organization of your choice.

KYLE STAPLETON

Jeffrey Kyle Stapleton, 40, of Buffalo Springs Lake, Lubbock, passed away Friday, July 30, 2004. A longtime resident of the South Plains area, Kyle graduated from Floydada High School and attended  Texas Tech University. He was a diversified Lubbock businessman for numerous years. Kyle loved all water recreational sports, fishing, skiing, and loved to travel. Kyle was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lubbock.

He is survived by one daughter, Raven Stapleton of Lubbock; his mother, Lois Shields of Lubbock; a brother, Breck Stapleton of Lubbock; a great-aunt, Mildred Server; several aunts and uncles and numerous friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.

Services for Mr. Stapleton were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 2, 2004 at the Abbey Chapel of Resthaven Funeral Home. Interment was Monday, August 2, 2004 at Resthaven Memorial Park.
