Morris Neil " Sonny" Jones
Morris Neil " Sonny"  Jones 55, of Waco,  Texas formerly of Groveton passed away October 22, 2003 in Wimberly,  Texas. Sonny was born November 24, 1947 in Groveton to the late Clyde Earl  Jones and Bessie Mae Young Jones.
Sonny served his country proudly, in the Armed Forces as a United States Marine Corpsman and served two tours in county during the  Vietnam War, he honorably received numerous medals during his duty. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and was self-employed.
Sonny is survived by two sone: Zachary  Jones of Memphis, Tenn. and Shawn  Jones of Atlanta, Georgia.
Brothers: Billy C.  Jones of Gordon,  Texas, J. P.  Jones of Canyon Lake,  Texas and Jack W.  Jones of Tyler,  Texas.
Sisters: Jerry Mangum of Spring,  Texas, Dot Dishman of Longview, Jo Ann Finley of Phoenix, Arizona, Barbara Sockwell of Willis, Linda Thompson of Grosebeck,  Texas and Debbie Etu of Nashville, Tennessee.
Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Services were held Monday, October 27, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Waller Thornton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Neal Kemper and Bro. Robbie Bailey officiating. Interment follows in Bennett Cemetery.

Ophelia Rosser Seale
Funeral services for Ophelia Rosser Seale, 80, of Pennington,  Texas were held Friday, November 28, 2003, in the Groveton Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m. with Bro. Charles Butler and Bro. Lewis  Jones officiating. Internment followed in the Pennington Cemetery.
Ophelia Rosser Seale was born November 29, 1922 in Friday,  Texas and passed away on November 25, 2003 in Crockett,  Texas.
Mrs. Seale is survived by Husband: Earl Seale of Pennington,  Texas; Daughter: Deborah Anderson of Crockett,  Texas; Grandchildren: Hamilton Hicks of Austin,  Texas; and Meagan Anderson of Crockett,  Texas; Sister: Sarah Seawright of Pasadana,  Texas. Numerous other Relatives and Friends.
Mrs. Seale was affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Pennington,  Texas and a retired teacher.
Pallbearers: Nathan Gither, Eric Gaither, Brent Garrison, Rickie Burda, James Earl Seale and Billy Wayne Seale, Honorary: James Thomas Cope.
Memorials: American Cancer Society or the Pennington Cemetery.

Funeral services for E. G. Davidson, 76, of Apple Springs,  Texas were held Friday, November 28, 2003, in the Groveto9n Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M. with Bro. Neil Kemper officiating. Interment followed in the Bennett Cemetery.
E. G. Davidson was born November 22, 1927, in Crecy,  Texas and passed away November 25, 2003, in Lufkin,  Texas.
He is survived by: Wife: Gearline Davidson of Apple Springs,  Texas; Sons & Daughter in laws: James Arthur & Karen Davidson of Allen,  Texas, Phillip Andrew & Lucy Davidson of Elmendorf AFB, Alaska; Richard Glain & Betty Davidson of Apple Springs,  Texas; Daughter & Son in law: Melisa Diane & Fred Carlson of Palestine,  Texas; Son: Michael Jeffrey Davidson of Portage, Alaska; Sister: Elva Jean Hastings of Waco,  Texas and Betty Ruth Nelson of Apple Springs,  Texas. 6 Grandchildren: Jeffrey, Angela, Maria & Marrisa Davidson, Justin & Seath Carlson.
Mr. Davidson was affiliated with the Antoch Church of Christ, member of the VFW and retired military. He was a resident of Apple Springs,  Texas.
Pallbearers: Thomas Jeffrey, Mark Jeffrey, John Daniel Nelson, Steven Hastings, Brent Jeffrey and Kevin Tullos. Honorary: Bob Bowen and Jimmy Whorl.

Memorial services for Marvin Lester Bagwell, 75, of Lovelady,  Texas were held Monday, December 1, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Driskell officiating. Interment followed in the Zion Hill Cemetery.
Marvin Lester Bagwell was born July 31, 1928 in Lovelady,  Texas and passed away November 28, 2003 in Lovelady,  Texas.
He is survived by: Children: Phillip Wayne Bagwell of Pearland,  Texas Curtis Bryan Bagwell of Alvin,  Texas and Phylis Shepard of Studio City, California; Brothers & Sisters: Myrtle Boyce of Hillsborough, North Carolina, Vada Klaus of Lovelady,  Texas, Willie Lee Lever of Huntsville,  Texas, Ruth Baker of Lovelady,  Texas Geraldine Harrelson of Lovelady,  Texas and Travis Bagwell of Riverside,  Texas. 11 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends.
He was affiliated with the Zion Hill Baptist Church, he served in the Army during the Korean War; he was a retired truck driver and resided in Lovelady,  Texas. Memorials: American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for James Turner Evans, 73 were held Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at 4:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church of Groveton with Bro. Lewis  Jones officiating. Interment followed in the Glenwood Cemetery.
James Turner Evans was born September 29, 1930 in Livingston,  Texas and passed away March 22, 2004 in Houston,  Texas.
Mr. Evans was affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Groveton and the Evans Pasture and the Rocky Creek Hunting Club. He resided in Groveton,  Texas and was a retired Gas Retail and Wholesale Business.
He is survived by: Wife: Carolyn Elizabeth Barton Evans of Groveton,  Texas; Sons & Daughters in law: James Barton and Ray Ann Evans of Coldsprings,  Texas and Kris David and Hilda Evans of Groveton,  Texas; Daughter and Son in law: Lisa Carol and Keith Bullock of Corrigan,  Texas. Grandchildren: Heath Evans, Josh Evans, Kaydon Evans, Lane Johnson, Kristal Evans, Hillery Evans, Brittany Wiley, Bart Wiley, Magen Bullock and Luke Bullock. Numerous other relatives and friends.

Graveside services for Helen Bernice Mabry, 76, of Groveton were held Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at the Calvary Cemetery.
Helen Bernice Mabry was born November 20, 1927 in Groveton,  Texas and passed away March 29, 2004 in Crockett,  Texas.
She is survived by: Sons: J. D. Mabry of Conroe,  Texas. Ronald Wayne Mabry of Conroe,  Texas; Daughter: Mary Katherine Shank of Groveton,  Texas; Sister: Janice Reeves of Groveton,  Texas; 6 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren. Numerous other relatives and friends.
She was affiliated with the Baptist Church and a resident of Groveton,  Texas. She was a homemaker.
Pallbearers: Jeff Mabry, Ronnie Mabry, Mike Shank, Dwayne Shank, Brandon Lowery.

Guy R. Odom
April 4, 2004
SHEPHARD – Guy Roy Odom, 72, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston.
A memorial service to Celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, at United Baptist Church, Splendora. (Large gray church on right.) Take first right (Fostoria Rd.) Then turn left on feeder Road. Turn right into church parking lot.

Woermann Gibson “Gip” Windham
February 24, 2004
Funeral services for Woermann Gibson “ Gip” Windham, 85, of Livingston were held Saturday, February 7, 2004 in the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston,  Texas at 10:00 am, with Pastor Tom Kennedy officiating. Interment followed in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Livingston.

Mrs. Windham was born February 15, 1918 in Trinity county,  Texas the daughter of W.L. & Hattie English Gibson.

She was proceeded in death by her parents and husband, James M. Windham, Sr.

“Gip” was a dedicated homemaker whose family was the highest priority in her life. She took particular pride in her volunteer work as an auxiliary nurse for many years at the Polk County Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Windham is survived by Son & Daughter in law: James M. and Lela Windham, Jr., of Houston,  Texas, Daughter & Son in law: Judith and Allen Alderson of Shreveport, La., Granddaughters, Victoria Windham of Houston, and Caroline Windham of Louisville, KY; Sister and Brother in Law, Ninon and Ralph Arnett of Dallas, and Long time Friend, Dot Robinson of Livingston,  Texas.

In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Memorial Medical Center “ Beyond 2000” Fund. P. O. Box 1257, Livingston,  Texas 77351.

Cochran Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.

Carroll W. Roden was born December 7, 1924 in Alvin,  Texas and passed away February 10, 2004 in Westville,  Texas.

He was preceded in death by: Son & Daughter-in-law: Tommy & Cheryl Roden; Mother: Sharlotte Munson, Father: Floyd Roden & Farrell Munson; Brothers: Marshall Roden & F. A. Roden; Sister: Thelma Gierisch and Sister-in-law: Hazel Carlton.

Mr. Roden was affiliated with the First Baptist Church in Alvin. His residence was Westville,  Texas and he retired from  Louisiana Pacific.

Funeral services for Claude Edwin McClain 81, of Groveton,  Texas were held Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at 4:00 PM at Waller-Thornton Funeral Home. With Bro. Neil Kemper officiating. Interment followed in the Glenwood Cemetery. Mr. McClain was born on July 13, 1922 in Groveton,  Texas, and passed away Monday, February 2, 2004 in Groveton,  Texas.He is survived by: Wife of 55 years, Joylea McClain. (Married in Lufkin,  Texas on May 22, 1948). Children: Brenda Allen and husband Johnny Wayne Allen of Lufkin,  Texas; Benny McClain and wife Linda McClain; Grandchildren: Grandsons: Marty McClain and wife Shanna McClain, Michael McClain and Granddaughter: Marla McClain.He was preceded in death by: his Parents, Oscar McClain and Ollie Key McClain. Special Friends: Douglas and Thelma Terry.Car givers: Teresa Wyatt and Graham Livingston. A heartfelt and grateful thank you goes to Randall Archer Jr. Oscar Williams, Clara  White, Teresa Wyatt, Dr. Jack Halter, Dr. Dick Gillum, Brother Lewis  Jones and wife Darlene, the staff of the Groveton Nursing Home and the Groveton EMS. Mr. McClain graduated from Groveton High School in 1940. He attended Satterwhite College of Business in Lufkin,  Texas. Mr. McClain was on the Board of Directors of First Bank in Groveton for 57 years. He joined First Bank in 1946 and was serving as president when he retired in 1977. From retirement in 1977 until 1980 Mr. McClain enjoyed building fences and chasing bulls on his farm. In 1980 he and his son Benny opened McClain's Hardware, where for years he was a familiar figure, with his familiar pipe and a kind and friendly word for all. In 1977 he was presented an award by the Groveton Chamber of Commerce for a lifetime of service to the community of Groveton. For three years Mr. McClain proudly served his country in World War II, serving in Europe as an artillery man with the United States Army. Mr. McClain was a faithful member of the Groveton Church of Christ. Pallbearers: Scott Evans, Joe Ned Dean, Lewis Pillows, Alton Mericle, Glen Ward, Dean Due, Anthony Page and Bennie Lee. Honorary Pallbearers: Gerald Smith, Don Reily, Bryon Richards, J. L. Gibson, Billy Avery, Melburn Minter, W. B. Due, John Nelson, Dick Gillum, Buddy Reynolds, Travis Kitchens, Tommy Walton, Nelson Due, Lynn Dial, Wase Ray, Tiger Worsham and Jr. Legg.
