William Owens
TRINITY -- Services for William Owens, 92, of Willis were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at The Calvary Baptist Church in Trinity with the Rev. Larry Bewley officiating.
Burial followed in the  Taylor Cemetery.
Mr. Owens died Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the Conroe Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 9, 1911, in Dodge, the last of 10 children born to Lee Owens and Irene Gladden Owens. He was preceded in death by his son, Vernon Owens; his parents; and all of his siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Frances Leola Owens; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Neta Owens and James William and Reba Owens; two daughters Frances Rankin and her friend, Tommy Jones, and Betty Viniarski and her friend, Phillip Wagner; 12 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Grandsons and nephews served as pallbearers.
Waller-Thornton Funeral Home of Trinity directed the arrangements.

Wilma Stubblefield
GROVETON -- Services for Wilma Stubblefield, 93, were held Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in the Waller-Thornton Funeral Chapel in Groveton with the Rev. Lewis  Jones and the Rev. Dwayne Henderson officiating.
Burial followed in the Glenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Stubblefield died Thursday, Sept. 25, in a Lufkin hospital.
She was born Sept. 25, 1910, in the Willard Community of Trinity County where she resided for most of her life. She was known as a very quiet, Christian woman who served the Lord and as a wife, mother, homemaker and friend. She was a member of the Josserand Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Clayton Benton.
Survivors include her husband of over 48 years, Roy Stubblefield; a son and daughter-in-law, Oscar "Bud" and Dorrece Mathis; a daughter, Jimmie Benton; a brother and sister-in-law, Arvalee and Florine Dial; a sister-in-law, Ina Dial; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Henry Harold Thornton
TRINITY -- Graveside services for Henry Harold Thornton, 82, of Trinity were held Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Trinity with the Rev. Larry Bewley officiating.
Mr. Thornton died Tuesday, Sept. 23, at his residence in the Pinecrest Estate subdivision.
He was born April 3, 1921, in Henessey, Okla., the son of Guy and Jennie Huff Thornton. He was the valedictorian of his high school graduating class. Mr. Thornton served in the military during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart medal for combat wounds as well as three Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct medal.
Mr. Thornton was a great fan of football and enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Lura Dean Thornton; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Slade Haynes; two step-children and their spouses; Betty and Arlo Morgan and Jerry and JoAnn Bassham; six grandchildren, Dillon, Hayley, Justin, Sheryl, Terry and Billy; and four great-grandchildren.

Jesse Junior Hutto
GROVETON -- Services for Jesse Junior Hutto, 64, of Groveton were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, in the Waller-Thornton Funeral Home Chapel in Groveton with the Rev. Lewis  Jones and Bro. Neil Kemper officiating.
Burial followed in the Pennington Cemetery.
Mr. Hutto died Wednesday, Sept. 17, in Groveton.
He was born Aug. 25, 1939.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Roberta Hutto; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Karen Hutto; a brother and sister-in-law, J.L. and Ruth Hutto; a half-brother, Clifford  White; two sisters, Bonnie Fuller and Della Allison; his mother-in-law, Mae Reynolds; two brothers-in-law and a spouse, Jay Reynolds and Ray and Jo Reynolds; two grandchildren, Kevin Hutto and Paige Hutto; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to the Groveton EMS or to a charity of choice.

Gary Mac McClain
GROVETON -- Services for Gary Mac McClain, 60, of Woodlake were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at the Waller-Thornton Funeral Home Chapel in Groveton with the Rev. Lewis  Jones officiating.
Burial followed in the Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. McClain died Tuesday, Sept. 16, at his residence.
He was born May 18, 1943, in Orange, the son of the late Thomas Edgar McClain and Nona Friday Tipton. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Groveton.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Shelly and George Sofka and Dana and Doe Tracy; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Brenda McClain; two sisters, Peggy and John Haggard and Ginger and Tommy Freeman; aunts and uncles, Reba and Deino Hawthorn and Gene McClain; five grandchildren, Brittany Moore, Whitney Moore, Madison Sofka, Cole Parker and Savannah Tracy; a special friend, Vivian Kersh; and a number of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-neices, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers included Jabo West, Jimmy Cochran, Jimmy Smith, Steve Casper, Stu Pot Parker and Tommy Gilmore. Honorary pallbearers were Mike McClain, Ricky Parker, Mark Evans, Randall Shaw, J.W. Reynolds, Eddie Dean Kennedy, Louis Snyder, Tommy Bryan, Ronnie McCarty and Sammy Turner.

Kerri Jane Smith
TRINITY -- Graveside services for Kerri Jane Smith, 50, of Trinity were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, in the Brookside Cemetery in Houston.
Mrs. Smith died Sept. 21.
She was born July 2, 1953, and was preceded in death by two sisters, Judy Young and Sherri Cavitt and a brother, B. Jay Rollin.
Survivors include her parents, Norma and Tom Nelson; a daughter and son-in-law, Mona and Ed Thompson; three sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Kelly Martinez, Chris and Jessica Smith and Matt and Veronika Smith; a brother and sister-in-law, Trey and Sheila Nelson; grandmothers, Janie Milroy and Rosalee Rollin; five grandchildren, Dana, Ryan, Harlee, Brandon and Tate; a great-grandson, Jakob; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Hilliard Funeral Home of Houston directed the arrangements.

Gertrude Toole
TRINITY -- Services for Gertrude Toole, 83, of Groveton were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, in the Trinity Funeral Home Chapel of the Chimes with the Rev. Lewis Jones, pastor of the Groveton First Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial followed in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Trinity.
Mrs. Toole died Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Groveton Nursing Home.
She was born April 2, 1920, in Falls County and had been a resident of Trinity County for many years. She once served as the manager of the delicatessen in Weingartens Grocery in Houston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nate Toole; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Toole McMahan; two grandchildren, Debra Lynn Hosea and Nathan Black; four sisters; and a brother.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Toole Black of Trinity; a son, Robert Glenn "Bob" Toole of Woodville; four grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Trinity Funeral Home directed the arrangements.

Marilyn Janice Gates Friday, M.D.
TRINITY -- Graveside services for Marilyn Janice Gates Friday, M.D., 54, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, in the Lion Hill Cemetery near Friday with Bro. Harold Gates officiating.
Mrs. Friday died Wednesday, Sept. 10, in Tyler.
She was born March 10, 1949, in Trinity, the daughter of Elvis and Evoyne Gates. She was a graduate of the University of  Texas Medical Branch, earning a degree as a registered nurse. She continued her education at  Texas Tech University where she received a doctorate degree in internal medicine. She then moved to Smithville to serve her internship at the Smithville Hospital.
She was a member of the Rotary Club and her favorite times were spent sitting at her piano playing and singing her favorite old gospel songs. She also enjoyed working in her garden, cooking odd tasting dishes and looking for Indian arrowheads.
Dr. Friday also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her husband of more than 30 years, Jackie Friday of Trinity; her mother, Evoyne Gates; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gordon and Debbie Gates and Jerry and Debbie Gates, all of Kountze; two sisters, Connie Gates of Houston and Jeannie Gates of California; two brothers-in-law and their spouses, Neal and Judy Friday of Trinity and Mike and Lisa Friday of Tomball; a sister-in-law, Wilma Bell of Trinity; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Clyde Manly Hume
TRINITY -- Memorial services for Clyde Manly Hume, 97, of Trinity were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at the Waller-Thornton Funeral Home in Trinity.
Mr. Hume, the last of 15 children, died Monday, Sept. 8.
He was born Oct. 22, 1905 in Creston, MT., the son of the late Robert and Hannah Hume. He was married to Geraldine Roush in 1927 and the couple had two sons, Clyde Hume Jr. and Bill Hume.
Mr. Hume was a talented musician and once formed an orchestra in Kalispell, MT., with his brother, Howard, in which he played the drums. His is fondly remembered by his grandchild for playing the ukulele around the holidays.
During his lifetime, Mr. Hume had a number of occupations. He worked as a mechanic and at a music company in Montana. When he moved to Seattle, Wash., he worked for the Port of Embarkation before starting a cabinetry business called Enterprise Manufacturing Co.
After his cabinetry business, he started a real estate company and in 1961 he purchased a bowling alley in Puyallup, Wash.
He met his second wife, Thelma, in Klamath Fall, Oregon, and they were married in 1967. They spent the next 35 years acquiring real estate and rental properties throughout Oregon and  Washington before retiring to Trinity.
Mr. Hume was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing as well as bowling and golfing.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma; a son and daughter-in-law, Clyde and Vada Hume; a daughter-in-law, Lyla; a stepdaughter, Linnea; nine grandchildren, Kathy, Janet, Pati, Linda, JoAnne, Jodelle, Carmen, Ken and Steve; 21 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Elevator Fund at the Dorcas Wills Memorial Baptist Church, Trinity,  Texas 75862 or to the Boys and Girls Club of Trinity, P.O. Box 665, Trinity,  Texas 75862.

Beulah E. Nash
TRINITY -- Services for Beulah E. Nash, 87, of Trinity were held at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at the Trinity Funeral Home.
Burial followed in the Vick Family Cemetery in New Caney.
Mrs. Nash died Saturday, Sept. 6.
She was born March 5, 1916, and resided for most of her life in the Humble and North Houston areas before retiring to Trinity.
She was known during her life for her humanity and the care she provided for many others. She raised her siblings and later her husband's siblings while working at various jobs.
In her retirement in Trinity, she volunteered many hundreds of hours of her time.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Cindy  Jones of Conroe; a sister, Pearl Smith of Humble; two granddaughters, Denise DelVecchio and her husband, Stephen, of Garland, and Jennie Miller of Philadelphia, Penn.; and numerous great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Trinity Funeral Home directed the arrangements.
