Ann Vannatta

Services for Ann Vannatta, 80, of Oakwood, were held at 10 a.m. today at First Christian Church in Oakwood with the Revs. Sam R. Cook and Doug Stevens officiating. Burial was to follow at Oakwood City Cemetery under the direction of Bailey and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

Mrs. Vannatta died Friday night at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 15, 1921 in Oakwood to John Hobson and Kate Logan Childress.
Mrs. Vannatta was a member of the First Christian Church in Oakwood and a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Mac E. Vannatta of Oakwood; son, Michael J. Vannatta of Spring; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be F.G. “Bubba” Lipsey, Fred L. Magourik, Arleigh McAtee, Herman Tienert, Bob Coons and Cross Moore.

Elbert Ray Roach

Services for Elbert Ray Roach, 80, of Lanely Community in Freestone County, will be Dec. 20 at the Grace Tabernacle church in Drew. Buffalo Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Roach died Saturday evening at his home.

He was born May 7, 1921 in Woodward, Kan. to Frank and Bessie Roach. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a retired electronics engineer who was a member of Grace Tabernace church.

Mr. Roach is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Dorothy Ellis Roach; son, Randall Roach of Vacaville, Calif.; daughter, Pamela Ray Miltz of Wamego, Kan.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials are requested to the Grace Tabernacle Building Fund, P.O. Box 131C, Buffalo, Texas 75831.

Virginia “Ginny” Bomer

Services for Ginny Bomer will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4 at the Bois ‘D’ Arc Baptist Church in Bois ‘D’ Arc, Texas with the Reverend Dr. Dan Allen of South Jacksonville, Fla. Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow Wednesday in the Texas State Cemetery in Austin with a graveside memorial at 1:30 p.m.
Mrs. Bomer died Dec. 1 at Palestine Regional Medical Center. She was born in Houston to Rudolph and Ethel Roco who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Bomer worked as a model for Nieman Marcus in Houston. Following her modeling career she worked as an office administrator for a large Houston-based insurance company. Growing up in Houston, she attended Reagan High School where she was drum major for the school’s Redcoat Band. As a teen she performed as a soloist for the Jimmy Dorsey Band.

She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Elton Bomer of Montalba, a son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Michele Bomer of Athens; a daughter and son-in-law, Elayne and Glenn Rust of Houston; grandchildren, Caitlin Bomer of Athens and Adam and Chase Rust of Houston.
Active pallbearers will be Bascom W. Bentley, Joe Crutcher, Larry Mayo, Gene Reynolds, Billie Schick, Bob Howell, Don Bullock and Charles Elliott.

Honorary pallbearers will be Olin B. Lane Jr., Bettye Young, Nancy Mayo, Sherryll Crutcher and Shirley Bullock.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Bailey and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

Memorials , if desired, may be made to Cartmell Home for the Aged, 2212 W. Reagan St., Palestine, Texas 75801.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

James “Jim” Matthews

Services for James “Jim” Matthews, 73, of Grapeland, was scheduled at 3 p.m. today at Garden of Memories Cemetery with the Rev. Tommy Pelt officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Bailey and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.

Mr. Matthews died Sunday morning at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 26, 1928 in Anderson County to Isrel Zeb and Emma Bagwell Matthews.

Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by grandson, Eddie Matthews Jr.

He was a Baptist and a truck driver.
Mr. Matthews is survived by son, Eddie Matthews of Pearland; a sister, Mildred Dancer of Elkhart; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Anne McCubbin Wiegand

Services for Dorothy Anne McCubbin Wiegand, 82, of North Little Rock, Ark., will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Roller Owens Funeral Home in North Little Rock, Ark. Burial will follow at Little Rock National Cemetery.
Mrs. Wiegand died Wednesday in a North Little Rock hospital following a lengthy illness.
She is survived locally by daughter, Mrs. Martin E. (Ann Wiegand) Griffin of Palestine.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Joseph P. Smith

Services for Joseph P. Smith, 90, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Guiceland Cemetery in Houston County with Dr. Ron Sloan officiating. Burial will be in Guiceland Cemetery under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home in Palestine.
Mr. Smith died Friday night at the Veterans Hospital in Temple.
He was born Aug. 21, 1911 in Anderson County to Percy Hall and Lula Hardin Smith.
Mr. Smith was a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
His parents and his nine siblings preceded him in death.
He is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary Ann Drain

Services for Mary Ann Drain, 66, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Gardner officiating. A final service and interment will be held at a later date in New Jersey.
Mrs. Drain died Wednesday in Houston.
She was the daughter of the late Annie Mae Evans Edwards and Odis Edwards. She married O.L. Jim Drain, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Drain live most of her life in Palestine. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School where she was a track star. She worked at Mopek Hospital and did private duty as a nurse prior to her illness.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Drain was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Edwards.
She is survived by a son, Willie James Brookings of Vineland, N.J.; brothers, Pat Henry Edwards of Palestine and James Edwards of Pilesgrove, N J.

Mrs. Elton (Virginia) Bomer

Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Elton (Virginia “Ginny”) Bomer of Montalba are pending at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home in Palestine.
Mrs. Bomer died Saturday morning at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

Alvin “Peewee” Kludt

Services for Alvin “Peewee” Kludt, 72, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Mr. Kludt died Thursday in Eugene, Ore.

Marcell Edward Bellfield

Services for Marcell Edward Bellfield, 71, of Neches, and formerly of Los Angeles, will be at 4 p.m. Monday at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Marvin Jefferson officiating. He will be cremated.
Mr. Bellfield died Nov. 21 at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 10, 1930 in Mission to Johnny Edward Bellfield and Helen Banks Bellfield.
Mr. Bellfield was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and Marines, serving 31 years. He earned several commendations before being honorably discharged. He moved to Neches four years ago.
Mr. Bellfield was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mildred Bellfield Ingram.
He is survived by daughters, Jeannette Weatherall of Neches and Barbara Stephens of Copperas Cove; sons, Marcell Bellfield Jr. of Corpus Christi, Eddie Bellfield and Johnny Bellfield, both of Oxnard, Calif.; brothers, John Mack Bellfield of Palestine, Dale Bellfield of Bryan and Bennie Bob Bellfield of Los Angeles; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Family will receive condolence calls from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Joyce Smithey

Services for Joyce Smithey, 58, of Buffalo, formerly of Huntsville, Ala., will be at 11 a.m. today at Buffalo Funeral Home with Dale Osteen officiating. Burial will be in Huntsville, Ala.
Mrs. Smithey died Thursday at Providence Hospital in Waco.
She was born Jan. 1, 1943 in Huntsville, Ala. to Alvie and Earnestine Wooten Copeland.
Mrs. Smithey was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by her husband, T.J. Smithey.
Mrs. Smithey is survived by sons, Tommy Joe Smithey of Huntsville, Ala. and Randy Cummins of Indiana; daughters, Patricia Kurtz and Terri Smithey, both of Huntsville, Ala., Judy Cummins of Florida, Tina Yeavy of Houston and Sheila Cummins of Indiana; a brother, John Copeland of Buffalo; a sister, Judy Johnston of Buffalo; and 11 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Duane Martin, Jason Jones, Matthew Johnston, John David Johnston, Billy Hammond and David Hammond.

Ruthy Mae Mallard Warren

Services for Ruthy Mae Mallard Warren, 90, of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lone Pine Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Sloan officiating. Burial will be in Land of Memory under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mrs. Warren died Friday at Palestine Regional Medical Center following an auto accident.
She was born May 27, 1911 in Anderson County to Walter and Mollie King Mallard.
Mrs. Warren lived most of her life in the Long Lake community. She lived in Winnsboro for a time. She was a homemaker and a member of Lone Pine Baptist Church.
She was joined in death by her husband of 65 years, Carl Henry Warren.
Mrs. Warren was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy Mallard, Rufus Mallard and R.C. Mallard; a sister, Oleta Mallard; and a great-grandson.
She is survived by a son, Wade Warren of Mount Pleasant; daughters, Nelda Butler of Palestine, Carolyn Woolverton of Malakoff and Linda Mills of Irving; a brother, Ralph Mallard of Palestine; a sister, Marjorie Vickery of Palestine; and 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Lone Pine Baptist Church building fund.

Carl Henry Warren

Services for Carl Henry Warren, 86, of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lone Pine Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Sloan officiating. Burial will be in Land of Memory under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory.
Mr. Warren died Friday at Palestine Regional Medical Center following an auto accident.
He was born Feb. 14, 1915 in Anderson County to Hubbard and Hollie Johnson Warren.
Mr. Warren lived most of his life in the Long Lake community. He lived in Winnsboro for a time, where he retired from Getty Oil. He was a member of Lone Pine Baptist Church.
He was joined in death by his wife of 65 years, Ruthy Mae Warren.
Mr. Warren was preceded in death by a sister, Clara Stevens; and a great-grandson.
He is survived by a son, Wade Warren of Mount Pleasant; daughters, Nelda Butler of Palestine, Carolyn Woolverton of Malakoff and Linda Mills of Irving; a brother, Hayden Warren of Palestine; sisters, Willie Tucker and Serita Moore, both of Palestine; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Lone Pine Baptist Church building fund.
