Fernando Leyva

GREENVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA — Lance Corporal Fernando Leyva, 19, or Raymondville, Texas entered into rest Wednesday, March 27, 2002 in Greenville, North Carolina.

Fernando entered and served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Since September 27, 2001 and was stationed at Camp Le Jeune, North Carolina as an artilleryman.

He was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal and graduated from Raymondville High School, Class of 2000.

LCPL Leyva is survived by his parents Mr. And Mrs. Adolfo and Maria Leyva of Raymondville; a sister, Nellie Leyva and brothers, Adolfo, Jr. and Hugo Leyva, all of Raymondville; maternal grandparents, Domingo Garcia and Maria Antonia Robles of Monterrey N.L., MX.; uncles Humberto Garcia Robles, Ignacio de Jesus Garcia Robles, Salome Garcia Robles, Marcelino and Primitivo Garcia Robles; aunts Leticia Garcia Robles, Delia Leyva, Maria Jesus Granado, San Juana Martinez, Refugio Ramirez, and Catalina Morales, all of N.L., MX.; and the families Garcia Martinez, Garcia Montoya, Garcia Lerma, Garcia Aguirre, and Castillo Garcia of N.L., MX., and families Rodriguez and Granado of Raymondville, Texas.

Visitation will be held today, Sunday, March 31, 2002 at Duddlesten Funeral Home Chapel, with a rosary at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 01, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Military burial honors will follow at Raymondville Memorial Park Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Duddlesten Funeral Home, Raymondville, Texas.

Eutha Hamilton

HARLINGEN, TX — Eutha Winfrey Hamilton, Mrs. Oscar A., passed away March 26, 2002 at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, Texas and had been a resident of Golden Palms Retirement Center for six years. She was 84 years of age, born on May 22, 1917 in Troy, Texas and was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. O.A. Hamilton, and her two sisters, Zerline Anderson and Billie Jo Winfrey.

She is survived by her sister, Wanda Mehlman (Fred) of Maryland; brother, Hill Winfrey (Billie Katherine) of Bay City; brother-in-law, Grady Anderson (Drucilla) of Georgetown, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She and four children, seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Her children are a son, William Nelson (Marilyn), and daughters, Barbara Ann (Peter Blackstock), Mary Catherine (Will McCulloch), and Sally Ann (Mike Nagy). Grandchildren are Monica Tillett, Kelly and Matthew Hamilton, Stefanie Blackstock, Trey and Scott McCulloch, and Steven Nagy, and great granddaughter, Katelynne McCulloch.

Eutha graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas with a B.A. degree and taught school in Hempstead. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Harlingen and was very active in the choir. She played the organ, piano and violin. She was a proud P.E.O. sister in the Valley and also enjoyed her art lessons, creating paintings for her children, grandchildren and friends.

A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church in Harlingen on Saturday, March 30, 2002 at 2 p.m. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Veale, David Q. Day, Jim Servos, Melvin Krabill, and Smokey Boyle in spirit. Burial will take place in Richards, Texas beside her husband.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for all of her caring doctors, nurses, and caregivers. Friends are welcome to donate to the First Christian Church or to the charity of their choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Rosa Schubert

SEGUIN, TX — Rosa Lee Schubert, age 86, passed away March 27, 2002.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E.B. Schubert and her daughters, Sylvia Seelk and her husband, Willie and Judy Hoffmann.

Mrs. Schubert is survived by her granddaughter, Stephanie Seelk; sister, Minnie Eickelberg; sister-in-law, Estelle Emshoff; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 29, 2002 at Goetz Funeral Home from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 30, 2002 at 9:30 a.m. at Emanuel’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Vayda and Rev. Kevin Haug officiating.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 4 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Lyford, Texas.

Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel’s Lutheran Church.

Harold Lehman

LA FERIA, TX — Harold Lehman, 73, passed away at Valley Baptist Medical Center, Tuesday, March 26, 2002.

Harold was born in Chicago, IL on February 15, 1929 to Betty (Reif) Lehman and Philip Lehman.

Harold was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Harlingen and very active in the Keystone Sunday School.

Harold was in the Marines from 1947 to 1951 and served in the Korean War.

In the 1950’s, Harold became involved with the Manufactured Housing Industry in the Bensonville, IL area.

Harold in 1972 moved to Harlingen and purchased Palm Gardens Mobile Home Park & Sales. Harold’s slogan was "where service replaces promises."

He lived and worked by that standard, plus developed numerous friends and satisfied customers.

During the 48 years in the business Harold loved the industry and most of all loved his friends.

He will be missed by a lot of friends, who were fortunate to know him and have honest dealings with Harold’s integrity.

South Palm Gardens Mobile Home Dealership Sales was sold in 96 and began his retirement.

Hs is survived by his wife, Esther (Riemer) Lehman whom he married on July 12, 1952; children, Michael and wife Mary, Kathleen Lucas, John and wife Denise, and Susan and husband Dwight Green; six grandchildren, Brandon Lehman, Seth Lehman, Stephen Lucas, Christopher Green, Larry Lehman, and Michelle Lehman; sister, Betty Ogden; brother, Philip Lehman;

He leaves many sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law, and many nephews, nieces, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Betty Lehman.

Memorial services will be held at the First Christian Church, 10 a.m., Saturday, March 30, 2002, 421 S. 13th St., with the Rev. Mark Coppins officiating.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been set up. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Helen Adams

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TX — Helen Rollins Adams, 79, of South Padre Island, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

Mrs. Adams is survived by her daughter, Joyce Helen Adams of South Padre Island; by her son, Jearel Leroy Adams of Brownsville; her sisters, Gladys Brand of Mississippi, Jane Wilhite of Brownsville and Hettie Odabashian of Brownsville; a brother, James R. Rollins of Arlington, TX; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jearel Lee Adams and a daughter, Jane Hughston.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2002 in the Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 30, 2002 in the Darling-Mouser Funeral Home, 945 Palm Blvd. Interment will be at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Herminia Rivera

SAN BENITO, TX — Herminia (Minnie) Guerrero Rivera, 56, joined the Lord on March 25, 2002 at Brownsville Medical Center.

She was a beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister and best friend to her children.

A native of Los Fresnos, Texas, she lived in San Benito for numerous years.

Minnie was an extraordinarily caring, giving and loving person who strongly believed in the Lord.

She was a devoted mother and raised her children proudly. Her children, family, and friends will dearly and greatly miss our mom.

She was born to Andres and Sebastiana Guerrero. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cesario (Cesar) Rivera.

They were married for 32 years before his death in March 2000.

She loved and was extremely proud of her four children who survived her. They are Sonia (Eddie) Macias, Rene Rivera, Doralee (Jaime) Munoz, and J.R. Rivera.

She lovingly cared and raised her first granddaughter, Minnie Gisselle Macias.

She also greatly loved her second granddaughter, Oneida Macias. Minnie was also expecting her third grandchild.

She is survived by her sisters and brothers, Chelo (Daniel) Casarez of Whiteface, Texas, Celia Lopez of Muleshoe, Texas, Elvira (Willie) Guerra of Whiteface, Texas, Ramon (Maria) Guerrero of Harlingen, Juan Rene (Irene) Guerrero of Irving, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her brothers and sister, Carlos Guerrero, Guadalupe Guerrero, and Nicha G. Castillo preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be today, Friday, March 29, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Valley Worship Center in Brownsville, Texas with Pastor Pete Guzman officiating.

Burial will then follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park with pallbearers being her two brothers, Raymond Guerrero, and Juan Rene Guerrero; her two sons, Rene Rivera and J.R. Rivera; and her two sons-in-law, Eddie Macias and Jaime Munoz.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction and care of Thomae Funeral Home of 701 N. Bowie Street in San Benito.
