Hermes
Big Thicket Messenger - January 18, 2004
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 10, 2004 at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel for Theresa Mae Hermes, 60, with the Revs. Bell, Morris and McCracken officiating. Burial followed in Peebles Cemetery.
She was born October 7, 1943 in Voth, the daughter of Oliver D. and Auda McCaghren Cowen. She married Robert Hermes on July 3, 1961 in Livingston. She was a member of Calvary United Pentecostal Church in Livingston.
Mrs. Hermes died Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at her residence in Livingston. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Dennis Cowen.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Hermes of Livingston; son and daughter-in-law, James and Angie Hermes of Livingston; sister, Cindy Porter of Lufkin; brothers, Edward Hutchins of Bridge City and Jerry Cowen of Livingston; grandsons, Michael Paul Combs of College Station, Curtis Wade Hermes and Cole Robert Hermes, both of Livingston; and granddaughter, Caitlyn Ann Hermes of Livingston.
Pallbearers were Cooter Duff, Roy Lee Sanders, Clyde Butler, Greg Baskin, Paul Mack Galloway and Juan Cruz.
Cochran Funeral Home, Livingston, was in charge of arrangements.

Hogg
January 18, 2004
Funeral services for Johnny Adolph Hogg, 64, were held Sunday, January 4, 2004, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. James Frazier and Mary Shivers officiating. Burial followed in the Calvary Cemetery in Apple Springs.
He was born September 17, 1939 in Groveton, the son of Roy Lee and Florence (Chism) Hogg. He married Kathrine Pauline Reeves on June 13, 1958 in Houston. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Hogg died Thursday, January 1, 2004, at his home in Livingston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Lee and Florence (Chism) Hogg; two sisters, Gladys DeHart and Betty Jo Reagan; a brother, Edward Lee Hogg; and an infant daughter.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Kathrine P. Hogg; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Joe Woolf of Atlanta, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Jodel Hogg of Clarksville, Tennessee; son and daughter-in-law, Calvin Roy and Jeannette Hogg of San Antonio; brother and sister-in-law, Billy E. and Jo Ann Hogg of Livingston; sister and brother-in-law, Margie Jean and Truett Sorley of Houston; grandchildren, LaShanda and Dylan Parkhurst of Nacogdoches, Frank Woolf of Atlanta, Texas, Kalena and Josh Coder of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Jennifer Hogg of Fort Meade, Maryland, James Roy Hogg of Clarksville, Tennessee, David Wayne Hogg, Britney Marie Hogg and Bree Ann Hogg, all of San Antonio; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.
Pallbearers were Richard Reeves, Wayne Hogg Jr., Donald Sorley, Mike Holden, Phillip McKenna and Ronnie Hodge. Honorary pallbearers were James Hogg, Frank Woolf, Coy Reese and Wayne Hogg.

Matthews
January 18, 2004
Graveside services were held Wednesday, January 7, 2004, at Restland Memorial Park, Livingston, for Frances Cyrene Matthew, 77, with the Rev. Bryan Dickens officiating.
She was born June 18, 1926 in Livingston, the daughter of John and Ivey Gulley McKee. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in Livingston.
Mrs. Matthews died Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at her residence in Livingston. She was preceded in death by her father, John Taylor McKee; mother, Ivey Cyrene Gulley McKee; husband, Clifton Handley Matthews; sisters, Edna McKee Whisenhunt, Roberta McKee, Howard and Carrie Faye McKee and son, Mark Taylor Matthews.
Survivors include her sister, Onyta Hayes of Livingston; sister-in-law, Emmogene Thomason of Livingston; nieces, Neta Jane Young, Rita Sue Milton and Jerry Jewel Brame, all of Livingston; and nephew, Clifton Dwaine Thomason of Houston.
Cochran Funeral Home, Livingston, was in charge of arrangements.

Meyer
January 18, 2004
Funeral services for Edward Oscar Meyer Jr., 55, of Onalaska, were held Tuesday, January 6, 2004, from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, Onalaska, with the Rev. Don Wilkey officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery in Onalaska. Military honors were provided by the VFW Post 8568 Honor Guard.
He was born April 7, 1948 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Edward Oscar Meyer Sr. and Elzie Killebrew Meyer. Mr. Meyer served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.
Mr. Meyer died Saturday, January 3, 2004, in Onalaska. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Marlene Knight.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Peggy Meyer of Onalaska; son, Heath Williams of Onalaska; daughter and son-in-law, Daphney Green and husband, Brandon, of Blytheville, Arkansas; daughter, Carrie Meyer of Arkansas; son, Jason Meyer of North Carolina; granddaughters, Kirsti Green and Jayci Green; grandson, Rielee Green; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Adams, Larry Meadows, Ronald Meadows, Allen Denton, Kenny Alford, Fred Jones, Sonny Brumley and Buddy Vassar.
Cochran Funeral Home, Onalaska, was in charge of arrangements.

Pool
January 18, 2004
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2004, at the First Baptist Church in Onalaska for Rodney Pool Sr., 86, of Point Blank, with the Rev. Don Wilkey officiating. Burial followed in Center Hill Cemetery in Oakhurst.
He was born June 30, 1917 in Lucifer, the son of Walter and Mary Warren Pool. He married Eloise Burns Pool on May 18, 1940. Mr. Pool served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Onalaska.
Mr. Pool died Tuesday, January 6, 2004, in Conroe Regional Medical Center, Conroe. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Cutyene Moers and Gladys Burdett; and brothers, Warren Pool and Norman Pool.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Eloise Ruth Pool of Point Blank; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney J. Pool Jr. and wife, Joyce, of Conroe; brother, Monta Pool of Wharton; sister, Marguerite Luco of Wharton; granddaughters, Lee Anne Pool of Conroe and Kimberly Pool of Navasota; and grandson, Damian Pool of Houston.
Honorary pallbearers were deacons of the First Baptist Church in Onalaska.
Cochran Funeral Home, Onalaska was in charge of arrangements.

Roache
January 18, 2004
Funeral services for David Graeme Roache', 67, were held Thursday, January 8, 2004 at 10:00 from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Jay Workman officiating. Burial followed in Houston National Cemetery, Houston. Military honors were conducted by District No. 4 Ceremonial Detail.
He was born January 21, 1936 in Walla Walla, Washington, the son of Edward and Lorna Smith Roache, both of whom preceded him in death. Mr. Roache served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1964.
Survivors include his wife, Colleen Roache' of Livingston; sisters, Geraldine Gamma of Santa Clara, California and Jacque Luper of Molalla, Oregon; daughter, Nancy Hicks of Dayton; sons, Jeff Geis of Rye, Todd Geis of Highland and Curtis Helmer of Portland, Oregon; and grandchildren, Shane Hicks, Seth Hicks, Haley Hicks, Paige Geis, Madisun Geis and Krisandra Helmer.
Pallbearers were John Hicks, Todd Geis and Charles Hughes.
Cochran Funeral Home, Livingston, was in charge of arrangements.

Rosier
January 18, 2004
Funeral services for Eula "Granny" Rosier, 72, of Rye, were held Friday, January 9, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil/Probst Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rex Hendrix officiating. Interment was at Felps Cemetery, Thicket.
She was born in Rye, Texas to Willie and Toy Moore on April 21, 1931 and passed away on January 6, 2004.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest Rosier; children, Ronald Rosier and Lucretia Benningfield, Barbara Sumrall and husband, Richard; grandchildren, Shelly McCormick, Kady Rosier, Aaron Sumrall, Michael Sumrall and Andrew Sumrall; great-grandchildren, Jamie McCormick, Connor McCormick, Caleb Sumrall and Gabe Sumrall; and two precious Angels on the way; sisters, Pauline Cain and Cathaline Bailey; and loved ones beyond measure.
Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, was in charge of arrangements.

Lollar
January 18, 2004

Funeral services were held Monday, December 29, at Pace Funeral Home for Hazel Frances Lollar, 90, of Livingston , with the Revs. Frank E. Hood and Randal Whitt officiating. Interment followed in Peebles Cemetery .

She was born August 15, 1913 in Rusk County , the daughter of George and Clara Cobb Stokes. She married Daniel Lollar on October 2, 1929 , who preceded her in death on July 21, 1974 . She was a lifetime area resident and a member of Central Baptist Church .

Mrs. Lollar died on Friday, December 26, 2003 .

Survivors include a son, R.B. Lollar and wife, Imogene, of Goodrich; daughter, Louise Denham of Crockett; sister, Lorena Simonton of Huntsville ; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Steve Denham, Danny Lollar, Joshua Knighton, Jeremy Knighton, Daniel Denham and Kenneth Dillon. Honorary pallbearers were David Knighton, Keith Dillon, C.W. Evans, Nicholas Nick and Thurman Patterson.

Pace Funeral Home, Livingston , was in charge of arrangements.

Moore
January 18, 2004

Funeral services for Stuart Westley Moore, 21, of Livingston , were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2003 , at the First United Methodist Church , with the Revs. James Frazier, Orval Barger, Mary Shivers and Dr. Tom Kennedy officiating.. Burial followed in the Moore Family Cemetery . Full military honors were conducted by the Honor Guard from Fort Polk Army Base.

He was born April 24, 1982 in Huntsville , the son of Dennis and Pamela Palmer Moore. He began his education in Livingston schools, but later transferred to Polk County Christian Academy . He was an active Cub Scout, with his mother as den mother. He joined Boy Scout Troop 97 when he was 11 years old. He developed a love for hunting, camping, fishing and particularly rock climbing during his scouting years, with his father as scout master. In scouting, he achieved Life rank and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow. He worked with his dad in the family business during his teenage years. He especially enjoyed welding and working on the equipment.

He finished his school years in Livingston , graduating with the Livingston High School Class of 2000. With the delayed enlistment program, he made his commitment in the U.S. Army shortly before his graduation. During that summer, most of his time was spent mudding, hanging out with friends, working and having fun. He entered active duty on August 2, 2000 . He did his basic training at Fort Sill , Oklahoma , where he received an award for "Top Gun." He was assigned to the 1st Armored Division station in Fort Polk , Louisiana . Being close, he made frequent visits to see his family and friends. During these visits, he began dating Molly Bergman, whom he married. They were blessed with a little girl, Candice Michell, born on March 25, 2002 .

On June 13, 2002 , he was transferred to Giessen , Germany . In the spring of 2003, he was sent to the Netherlands to prepare in the shipment of army tanks to Iraq . He received his orders for deployment for Operation Enduring Freedom on his 21st birthday. Arriving first in Kuwait , he then traveled to Baghdad .

Private First Class Moore died on Monday, December 22, 2003 in Baghdad , Iraq , while faithfully serving his country.

Survivors include his wife, Molly Bergman Moore; daughter, Candice Michelle Moore; his father, Dennis Chester Moore and mother, Pamela Palmer Moore, all of Livingston; sister, Tiffany Moore of Livingston; nephew, Chance Moore of Livingston; grandmothers, Frances Palmer and Wilda Moore, both of Livingston; in-laws, James and Julie Bergman of Livingston; brother-in-law and wife, Dandy and Karen Bergman of Livingston; nephew, J.L. Bergman of Livingston; sister-in-law and husband, Tracy and Craig Scasta of Hearne; nieces, Hallie and Becca Scasta of Hearne; uncle and aunt, Donnis and Sarah Moore of Livingston; uncle, Douglas Moore of Livingston; uncle and aunt, Bob and Sue Palmer of Houston; uncles, Mike Palmer and Larry Palmer, both of Houston; and cousins, Robert and Lisa Simmons of Round Rock, Jeff, Karen and Aidan Moore of Austin, Krystal, Jimmy III and Jimmy IV Davis of Baytown and Chris and Scott Palmer of Houston.

Pallbearers were Second Lieutenant Jordan Hans, Beau Ferro, Christian Hans, Wesley Puckett, Craig Taylor, Paul Wilson, Aaron Brown, Noe Gonzalez, Michael Mullins, Brady Snook, Daniel Wilson and Collin Ziegler.

The family has established a memorial fund in his honor, donations for which will be used for programs benefiting other youth who share his love of rock climbing and outdoor sports. Donations to the Stuart Moore Memorial Fund may be sent to First National Bank, P.O. Box 671 , Livingston , Texas 77351 or to the First United Methodist Church , P.O. Box 1638 , Livingston , Texas 77351 .

Morgan

January 18, 2004
Graveside services were held Monday, December 29, 2003 in Center Grove Cemetery for Joseph Powell Morgan, 52, of Livingston , with the Rev. Dickie Bodie officiating.

He was born May 3, 1951 in Houston, the son of Marshall Franklin Morgan Jr. and Genevieve Maxine Randolph Morgan, both of whom preceded him in death.

Mr. Morgan died Saturday, December 27, 2003 .

Survivors include his brothers, Frank Morgan of Livingston and Sam Morgan of Grenada , Mississippi ; and sister, Linda Parrish of Livingston .

Cochran Funeral Home, Livingston, was in charge of arrangements.
