Meteorological Office before his retirement, now re-united with his late wife Kit. Much loved father of Yvonne and loving grandfather of Stephen and Christine Benn. Funeral service at Stonefall Crematorium, Harrogate on Monday, February 25 at 1.00 p.m. No flowers by request. Donations if desired, in lieu, may be made to the Alzheimer's Society and sent to John Blenkiron and Sons Ltd., 21 Queens Road, Richmond, DL10 4AJ.


STAPYLTON - February 18 (suddenly in hospital), of Hambleton Close, Thirsk. Eric, aged 71 years, beloved husband of Audrey, loving father of Robert, Trevor, David and Jonathan, a dear father-in-law, grandad and great-grandad. The funeral service will be held at St. Oswald's Church, Sowerby on Monday, February 25 at 11.00 a.m., followed by interment.


STEELE - Jarrow On February 13, 2008 peacefully, in Palmers Hospital, late of Bear-park, Durham. Helen (Nellie), aged 81 years, beloved daughter of the late John and Alice, dear sister to Kitty in Australia, Stella, Monica and the late Fred, Mary, Gerard, Alice, Agnes and Lawrence, a much loved sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt and great-great-aunt. Nellie will be received into St. Bede's Church, Jarrow Sunday, February 24, 2008 at 5.30 p.m. for Requiem Mass on Monday February 25 at 9.30 am, prior to interment at Jarrow Cemetery at 10.30 a.m. All welcome back to Martin Hall afterwards. Nellie will be resting at Peter Johnson Funerals, White Leas Way. On whose soul sweet Jesus have mercy.


SWAINSTON - Durham February 18, peacefully, in Springfield Lodge Nursing Home. Norris, aged 83 years. Much loved by all his loving family. Would friends please meet for funeral service on Friday, February 22 at Durham Crematorium at 9.30 am All enquiries to Derek Moss Funeral Directors. Tel: (0191) 3855959.


SWINBANK - February 10, (suddenly), of Ferryhill. Brenda, aged 73 years. Devoted mother of Sharon and David. Friends please meet for service and committal at Durham Crematorium on Friday February 22, at 2.30 p.m.


TAYLOR - February 16, of Bishop Auckland. Doreen (nee Lane), aged 77 years, beloved wife of the late John, devoted mam of John, Sharon and the late Jacqueline, a much loved and loving nanna and great-nanna, also a dear sister, sister-in-law and aunt. Will friends please meet for service in St. Mark's Church, Eldon at 10.20 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, followed by interment in South Church Cemetery.


THOM - Heather Joy, aged 61 years, of Brompton-on-Swale, Head of Broomfield Primary School, Northallerton and former Head of Middleton Tyas Primary School, died suddenly at home on February 10. A much loved niece and cousin. Funeral service at Darlington Crematorium on Thursday, February 21 at 2.15 p.m. Friends please meet at the crematorium chapel. If desired, donations for the Great Ormond Street Hospital Trust Fund may be sent care of John Blenkiron and Sons Ltd., Funeral Directors, Victoria House, 21 Queens Road, Richmond, DL10 4AJ.


THOMPSON - On February 13, peacefully at Wellfield House, Northallerton, formerly of Leylands Farm, Scorton. Thomas, aged 96 years, dearly loved husband of the late Minnie, loving father of Bertie, Marion, Dorothy and June, a dear father-in-law and a much loved grandad and great-grandad. Funeral service to take place at St. Mary's Church, Bolton-on-Swale on Tuesday, February 19 at 1.00 p.m., followed by interment. Family flowers only please. Will be sadly missed by all.


THORNTON - George Edward February 17 (peacefully in hospital, after a long illness bravely borne), of Thornton Crescent, Billingham. George Edward, in is 79th year, dearly loved husband of the late Lily, much loved father of Gillian, dear father-in-law of Derek, dearest grandad of Lisa and Wayne, loving great-grandad of William and Elizabeth and beloved brother of Jean and Stan. Funeral Friday, February 22. Friends please meet for service in Hartlepool Crematorium at 1.00 p.m.

Stella, aged 73 years, of Newton Aycliffe, a much loved wife of Tony, a dearly loved mum of Trisha, Lorraine, John and son-in-law Dave, a much missed gran to Christopher, Andrew, Graham, Paul, Kane and Sarah. Funeral Thursday February 21. Would friends please meet at 10.00 a.m. for service at Burnhill Way Methodist Church, Newton Aycliffe, followed by private cremation. Family flowers only please. Donations if so desired to the Haematology Unit, Ward 42, Darlington Memorial Hospital.

Amanda Jane (nee Wilkinson), aged 38 years, beloved wife of Ian, stepmum of Stephen and Chris, cherished daughter of Robert and Anne, a special sister of Annette and Neville, sister-in-law of Elizabeth and Mike, darling auntie of Charlotte and Nathan and a precious niece of Dorothy. Will friends please meet for service in St. Thomas' Church, Stanhope on Monday, February 25 at 1.15 p.m., followed by cremation at Durham Crematorium at 2.30 p.m. Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu, if desired, to the M.S. Society which may be left at Stanhope W.M.C. where everyone is welcome for refreshments afterwards.


VERITY - Darlington Steven John, aged 40 years, of Alverton Drive. Steven died at home on February 18 with his family around him. Adored husband of Susan, a much loved dad of Jack and Ellie, dearly loved youngest son of Jackie and Peter Hull and the late Jim Verity, brother and brother-in-law to Andrew and Julie, Stuart and Paulene and uncle to Anthony and Rebecca. Funeral and celebration of Steven's life will be held at Cockerton Methodist Church on Tuesday February 26 at 2.00 p.m., followed by private cremation. Will friends please meet at the Church and dress in cheerful casual clothes. Joan, aged 80 years, formerly of Thorntree Gardens Middleton-St- George, a dearly loved wife of Reuben, a devoted mum, grandma and great-grandma, also a dear sister, aunt and sister-in-law. Funeral service to take place in the Chapel of St. Hilda, Teesside Crematorium on Tuesday, February 26 at 11.45 a.m. Will be very sadly missed.


WELSH - February 18, suddenly at home in Crook. Diane (nee Sayer), aged 44 years, devoted mam of Philip and Jennifer, beloved daughter of Joan and Terry, a dearly loved sister, sister-in-law and aunt, dear ex wife of Paul, also a good friend of Harry. Will friends please meet for service in St. Catherine's Church, Crook at 2.00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 26, followed by cremation at Durham.


WHITE - Eric, peacefully in hospital on February 14, after a long illness, aged 77 years, of Trimdon Village beloved and devoted husband of Ethel, dearly loved dad of Lynne and Ian, dear father-in-law of Terry and Linda, cherished granda of Emma, Kirsty and Adam and great-granda of Callum. Service to be held in St. Mary Magdalene Church, Trimdon Village on Friday, February 22 at 2.30 p.m., prior to cremation at Durham Crematorium. Friends please meet at Church. Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu, if so desired, to the Stroke Association or the Arthritis Society c/o Mrs Lynne Robinson or Mr Ian White. Gone but never forgotten.


YARROW - Alice Aged 87 years. Peacefully in hospital on February 19, of Mayflower Court, Darlington, (formerly of Sir E. D. Walker Homes). Beloved wife of the late Stanley, dear mother of Terry, dear mother-in-law of June, special grandma of Louise and Jonathon and Heather and Gary, a loving great-grandma of Lucy and a dear sister of Eveline. Funeral Thursday February 28. Would friends please meet for service in All Saint's Church, Blackwell at 11.00 a.m. followed by cremation. Family flowers only. ARMSTRONG - February 10, peacefully at home, with his family around him, after a long illness bravely borne. Joe, aged 86 years, of Prior Street, Darlington, formerly of Wheatley Hill, dearly loved husband of Sarah, a much loved dad of Cheryl, Marie and Marjorie, dear father-in-law of Eric, Colin and John, devoted grandad of Louise, Ruth and Matthew also great-grandad of Robbie, Daniel, Woody and Theo. Funeral Friday February 22. Would friends please meet 12.00 noon for Requiem Mass at St. Augustine's R.C. Church, prior to cremation at Darlington. No flowers by request.
