WALKER On January 7, in hospital, of Laylands Farm, Ellerton-on-Swale (formerly of Woodburn Drive, Leyburn). Ronald, aged 67 years, beloved father of Pamela, friend and father-in-law of Richard, a very special grandad of Hannah and Philippa and a very dear brother, brother-in-law and uncle. Funeral service at St. Mary's Church, Bolton-on-Swale on Wednesday, January 12 at 12.00 noon, followed by private family interment. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, to be shared between Church Funds and Yorkshire Cancer Research (plate in church). Friends please meet at the church.

WALSH Dulcie, suddenly in hospital on January 4, dearest friend of Bill. WARD January 11, of Acorn Residential Home, West Cornforth. Annie, aged 91 years, dearly loved wife of the late Alfred and a dear mother of John and Ronnie, mother-in-law of Glenda, also much loved nana of Sandra and Hayley and great-grandnana of Sara. Friends please meet for service in the Village Methodist Church, Ferryhill at 10.15 a.m., on Wednesday, January 19, followed by committal at Durham Crematorium.

WATERSTON On January 6, peacefully in hospital. Francis Mossman, aged 84 years, beloved husband of the late Nancy, loving dad of Michael and Thomas, also a dearest grandad. Funeral to take place on Friday, January 14. Friends please meet at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Gilesgate at 11.45 a.m., followed by interment in Belmont Cemetery.

WHEELER Arthur Kitchener (Captain Ret'd.), aged 89 years, of Brompton-on-Swale, died peacefully at Hillcrest Residential Home, Catterick Garrison on January 8, 2005. Re-united with his beloved Gladys. Dearly loved dad of Doreen and Arthur Charles, dear father-in-law of Nora, precious Pop of Andrew and Karl, Mark and Steve, special great-grandad of David and Leigh, Ryan and Sian, Christopher and Matthew, Ben, Drew and Megan and baby Abigail. Funeral service at Brompton-on-Swale Methodist Church on Monday, January 17 at 2.30 p.m., followed by private cremation. Family flowers only, if desired, donations for Church Funds may be given on the plate in church. Will be sadly missed by all his loving family.

WHITFIELD January 8, in hospital, of Hewitson Road, Darlington. Harry, aged 60 years, beloved husband of Valerie, dearly loved father of Debbie and Mandy, a much loved grandad of Gemma, Harriet, Lauren and Libby and loving son of Annie and the late George. Funeral Monday. Friends please meet for service in St. Herbert's Church at 9.30 a.m., followed by cremation.

WITTY Died January 10, in hospital, of Bedale. Alan, aged 76 years, a much loved husband of Margaret and a dear dad, father-in-law, grandad, brother and uncle. Interment in Bedale Churchyard, family only, but we hope friends will join us afterwards in Wycar Chapel, Bedale on Saturday, January 15 at 2.30 p.m., to celebrate and give thanks for Alan's life and stay for refreshments in the annexe after the service. Family flowers only. Donations, if desired, to be divided between Christian Aid and Wycar Chapel.

WRIGHT January 8 (peacefully, in hospital), of Ferryhill. Vera (nee Anderson, Jackson), aged 74 years, beloved mother of Robert, Frances, Norma and Janice and stepmother of David and Beverley, a much loved nana and great-nana. Funeral Thursday, January 20. Will friends please meet at 10.00 a.m., for service and cremation at Durham Crematorium.

ALDERSON January 12 (peacefully in hospital) of Newton Aycliffe. Thomas Hamilton (Tom), aged 82 years, beloved husband of the late Jean, loving dad of Manda, a dear father-in-law and brother, also a much loved grandad of Vicki and Dan and a great-grandad of Grace. The funeral service will take place on Monday, January 24 at 10.20 a.m. at Neville Parade Methodist Church, prior to cremation at Darlington Crematorium. Friends invited, please meet at Church.

ALDERSON On January 14 (in hospital), of Farrhulm, Reeth and formerly of Storthwaite Hall Farm, Arkengarthdale. Clifford, aged 87 years, dearly loved husband of Betty, very dear father of James, Colin, Ellen, Carolyn, Dorothy and the late Mervyn, a much loved father-in-law and loving grandad. Funeral service to be held at St. Mary's Church, Arkengarthdale on Friday, January 21 at 1.30 p.m., followed by interment in the churchyard. Family flowers only please. However, donations in memory of Clifford, if so desired, may be given at the service for Yorkshire Cancer Research and St. Mary's Church Funds. Will friends please meet at the church and accept this intimation.

ANGUS On January 16, after a short illness, of Durham. Elizabeth, aged 87 years, beloved wife of the late Henry, a much loved mam, nana and great-nana. Will be very sadly missed. Would friends please meet for service at St. Giles' Church, Gilesgate on Friday, January 21 at 2.15 p.m. Cremation to follow at Durham.

APPLETON On January 10, peacefully in hospital, in South Africa (formerly of Dodd Street, Anfield Plain). Violet, aged 83 years, a dearly loved mother of Jim and mother-in-law of Christina. Funeral took place on January 13 in South Africa.

ATKINSON January 12 (peacefully in hospital). John Atkinson, late of East Farm, Boltby, step brother of Freda, Nancy and the late Alan Todd. Service at Holy Trinity Church, Boltby on Friday, January 21 at 10.00 a.m. No flowers please. Donations in lieu, to The Brompton Ward at The Friarage Hospital.

AUTON Died peacefully on January 17, after bravely fighting illness. Karen Elizabeth, of Kemnay, near Aberdeen, dearly beloved daughter of Ernest and Laura, dear sister of Louise and Claire and dear mother of John and Ellen. Sadly missed grandmother and grand-daughter, there for each other.

AUTON January 16, peacefully at Leeming Garth, formerly of Thornton Watlass. Dorothy Mona, aged 97 years, dearly beloved wife of the late Walter, a dear mother of Dorothy and Ernest, also loving grandmother and great-grandmother who will be sadly missed. Funeral service and interment to be held at St. Mary's Church, Thornton Watlass on Thursday, January 20 at 3.00 p.m. Family flowers only. Donations, if desired, for St. Mary's Church, a plate will be in church.

BASS January 6 (suddenly, at home), of Prescott Street, Darlington. Thomas Richard, aged 62 years. Funeral Thursday, January 27. Would friends please meet 9.15 a.m. for service at Darlington Crematorium

BAXTER January 15, suddenly at home, of Croxdale. Thomas, aged 47 years, much loved husband of Pat, a dear dad of Katie, Kelly and Sarah, also a dear brother and friend. Would friends please meet for service in St. Bartholomew's Church, Croxdale at 12.00 noon on Thursday followed by interment in York Hill Cemetery.

BELL Peacefully in hospital on January 19. Margaret Freda (nee Lawson), formerly of Sun Street, Bishop Auckland, beloved wife of the late George, dearly loved and loving mother of Ann and son-in-law Colin, proud gran of Michael, also a much loved sister to Joan, brother-in-law Billy and a dear aunt. Cortege will leave her daughter's residence at 10.05 a.m. on Friday, January 28 for Mass of Thanksgiving for her life, to be held in St. Wilfred's R.C. Church at 10.15 a.m., followed by cremation at Durham. Will friends please meet at church. R.I.P.

BEST January 14 (suddenly, but peacefully), of Witton Park. Violet (nee Baister), aged 72 years. Loving wife of the late Ronnie, dearly loved mam of Sandra, Carole and Thomas, dearest mother-in-law of Allan and Paul, also a much loved grandma and great-grandma. Friends please meet for service in St. Paul's Church on Monday January 24, at 10.00 a.m. followed by interment in Witton Park Cemetery.

BRADLEY January 15, peacefully of Aycliffe Village. Joan, aged 83 years. Beloved wife of the late Bill, much loved mum of Keith, Ian and Susie, also the respected mother-in-law of Lou, Marychris and Steve and the loving and devoted grandma of Sarah, Colin, Ben, Kian, Kasia and Gaelan. Funeral Monday January 24. Would friends please meet 11.30 a.m. for Requiem Mass at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Newton Aycliffe followed by interment in St. Andrew's church yard Aycliffe Village. R.I.P.

Norman, dearest husband of Thelma, devoted dad of Katharine and Tim and dearly loved father-in-law of Sharron and George and a very special grandad of Dominic, Matthew, Georgina and Hannah. CALVERT On January 17, peacefully in Southwoods Nursing Home, formerly of Abbeyfields, Northallerton. Jean Margaret, a dearly loved wife and mother of the late Jim and Alison. A service of celebration of Margaret's life will be held in Northallerton Methodist Church, 2.00 p.m., Thursday, January 27 prior to cremation. Family flowers only. Collection plate in church for the United Mission to Nepal. No mourning or dark clothes at Margaret's request.

CAVENDER January 19 (died peacefully at home), of 56 The Crofts, Wolsingham. Michael Christopher, aged 44 years, dearly loved fiance of Penny, loving father of Michael, Josh and Jay, a loving son of Rita and a much loved brother of Jerry, Angela and Brigid. Will be sadly missed by family and friends and will always be remembered for a great sense of humour. Would friends please meet for service in Wolsingham Parish Church on Wednesday, January 26 at 1.00 p.m., followed by interment. Family flowers only please. CHARLTON Ronald (Ron), aged 91 years, formerly of Castle Close, Northallerton, died peacefully at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Catterick Garrison on January 15. A much loved father and grandfather. CHRISTIE Nevilles Cross Peacefully in hospital on January 17, aged 60 years. Maureen, a much loved daughter of May, a loving mother of Scott, Cam and Grant, a dear mother-in-law of Shaleen and also a loving grandmother of Abigail and Dominic. Maureen will be sadly missed by all her loving family and friends. Friends please meet at Durham Crematorium on Wednesday, January 26 at 10.30 a.m., for service prior to cremation.

COATES (Willington) January 12, in Bishop Auckland Hospital. Doris, aged 93 years. Very dear wife of the late Ronnie, much loved mam of Margaret and Ron, David and Anne, also a loving gran and great-gran. Friends please meet for service at St. Stephen's Church, Willington at 11.15 a.m. on Thursday January 20, followed by cremation at Durham. Family flowers only please. Donations to, Cancer Research U.K. may be left with the family.

COGLAN January 12, of Bishop Auckland. William (Billy), aged 67 years, a dear dad, father-in-law, grandad and great-grandad, also a good friend of many. Cortege to leave Gibson's Funeral Services, Bishop Auckland at 10.50 a.m. on Thursday, January 20 for service in St. Anne's Church at 11.00 a.m., followed by interment in Bishop Auckland Town Cemetery. Brian Joseph, aged 63 years, dearly loved husband of Kathleen, devoted dad of Joe and Helen and father-in-law of Lesley and Peter, also a much loved granda of Dale, Aidan, Emma, Katie and Owen, a dearly loved brother of Eileen, Michael, John, Patrick and Wilfy.
