ROWELL - Billy W.T.A. Rowell, originally of Bishop Auckland (intermittently and emotionally of Durham) died in hospital on September 6, in Vitoria, Spain, where he had lived and worked for more than forty years. His death was sudden though his health had been deteriorating for some time. His funeral took place at the Church of the Carmen in Vitoria on the evening of September 8. R.I.P


SAUNDERS - Graham Robert, aged 37 years (Lance Corporal 2 Lancs Regiment), of Catterick Garrison, died suddenly in hospital on September 5. Dearly loved husband of Michelle, devoted daddy to Erin Louise, loving son of Samuel and the late Mary, brother to Rebecca and Samantha, nephew to Nadia, uncle of Catherine and Josh, Ruby and Cory, son-in-law to Tim and Chris and brother-in-law to Tim and Julie. Funeral service at The Garrison Memorial Church, Catterick Garrison on Friday, September 15 at 11.30 a.m., followed by private interment. Friends please meet at the Church. Family flowers only please, if desired, donations for the British Heart Foundation may be given on the plate provided in the Church or care of John Blenkiron and Sons Ltd., Funeral Directors, Victoria House, 21 Queens Road, Richmond, DL10 4AJ.


SMITH - Ouston September 12, peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. Christine, much loved and cherished wife of Brian, loving mam to Maggie and Gordon, also a loved mother-in-law, devoted grandma and a loving sister. Will be sadly missed by all her loving family and many friends. Friends please meet for Requiem Mass at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Birtley on Friday September 15 at 11.30 a.m., followed by private interment. On whose soul sweet Jesus have mercy. R.I.P


SMITH - September 10 (suddenly at home), former Bus Proprietor, of South Kilvington, Thirsk, formerly of Dalton. Mary, aged 93 years, beloved wife of the late John, loving mother of Granville and Neville, a dear sister, mother-in-law and grandma. The funeral service will be held at St. John's Church, Dalton on Wednesday, September 20 at 12.15 p.m., followed by private cremation.


SOULSBY - September 11, of North Drive Middlestone Moor. Miriam (nee Tuck), beloved wife of the late Albert, dear mother of Barry and the late Brian, mother-in-law of Lynne and loving nana of Aaron and Abbie, great-nana of Noah, also a much loved aunt. Friends please meet for service in St. Paul's Church on Monday, September 18 at 11.30 a.m., followed by interment in Rock Road Cemetery.


THOMPSON - Meg, aged 83 years, of Fairview Gardens, Richmond, formerly of Hartforth, died peacefully at Maple Lodge Nursing Home, Scotton on September 12. Dearly loved wife of Gordon, much loved mother of Phillip and David, dear mother-in-law to Angela and Linda, loving nan of Emma, Mark and Matthew and a dear sister, sister-in-law and aunt. Funeral service at St Agatha's Church, Gilling West on Wednesday, September 20 at 11.30 a.m., followed by interment in the Churchyard. Friends please meet at Church. Family flowers only please, if desired, donations may be given on the plate provided in the Church for Cancer Research U.K.


TURNBULL - September 12, (peacefully,) in Hundens Park Care Home. George, aged 94 years, (Burma veteran). A loving husband of the late Peggy, a dad and friend to Tony, Carole and Stephen, a loving father-in-law, grandad and great-grandad. Private funeral. No flowers by arrangement. Will always be remembered.


WALKLAND - September 8, suddenly at home, of Thirsk. Pauline Linda, aged 55 years, much loved and missed by her family and friends. WILLIAMS - (Durham City) September 1, (peacefully, in hospital, following a tragic accident). Professor Daniel 'Lyn Howell Williams' (known as Lyn), aged 70 years. Much loved husband of Gill, father to Elenid and Aled, grandfather of Rhiannon and Carys and brother of Geinor. Lyn will be sadly missed by all his loving family, friends and colleagues. Funeral was held at Waddington Street United Reformed Church. By request donations if desired to, Leukemia Research Fund, c/o, Stuart Wright Funeral Service, 23 Marshall Terrace, Gilesgate, Durham.


WINTER - September 12, in hospital, of High Street North, Langley Moor. Thomas (Tom), aged 89 years, beloved husband of the late Joan and much loved father of Marie and Richard, a dear father-in-law of Margaret and Juan and grandfather of Joseph and Philip. Interment Meadowfield Cemetery Tuesday. Would friends please meet for Requiem Mass in St. Patrick's R.C. Church at 9.00 a.m. On whose soul sweet Jesus have mercy. R.I.P.

Jean, aged 76 years, of Darlington, wife of the late Les, beloved mother of Linda, Barbara, Julie and the late Derrick, step-mother to Gordon, Brian and Colin, mother-in-law to Colin, Barry and John, treasured nana of Sharon, Manda, Wendy, Mark, Joanne, Garry and Emma, also a loving gran, dear sister of Allan, Florrie and the late Dot. Funeral service to take place on Friday, September 15 at Darlington Crematorium at 9.45 a.m. Friends invited, please meet at the Crematorium Chapel.

ASHLEY - Arnold, on August 31 in York, late of Morley Farm, Etherley, Bishop Auckland and latterly of Tees House, Barnard Castle. Dearly loved husband of Peggy (nee Raw), much loved father of Gillian and Hugh and loving grandad of Jozef, Edward, Jenny, Kate and Felix. Cremation took place in York.


ATKIN - September 7, peacefully at Ventress Hall, Darlington. Violet, aged 93 years, beloved wife of the late Tommy and a much loved mum, granny and greaty. Funeral Thursday. Friends please meet for service in Harrowgate Hill Methodist Church at 12.30 p.m., followed by cremation.

Harriet, aged 95 years, dearly beloved wife of the late Eddie, much loved mam of Eddie and Enid, a dear mother-in-law of Brenda and Joe, also a devoted gran and great-gran. Cortege leaving daughter's residence 6 Langley Street on Tuesday, September 12 for service at All Saints Church, Langley Park at 12.15 p.m., prior to cremation at Durham Crematorium. By request, family flowers only. Donations in lieu for the British Heart Foundation can be left in the collection box at the back of the Church.


BAYLES - Robert (formerly of West Auckland), passed away suddenly in hospital on September 3, 2006, aged 90 years, beloved husband of the late Edna, loving father to Linda and Ann, loved by sons-in-law and grand-children. A very dear and special person who will be missed so very much. R.I.P. Service and cremation at Yardley Crematorium, Birmingham on Tuesday, September 12 at 1.30 p.m. Any enquiries to William H.
