Francis D. Snapp Sr.

BURKES GARDEN, Va. -- Mr. Francis Dulaney Snapp Sr., 91, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at his home.
He was a member of Mary's Presbyterian Church , one of the founding elders of Burkes Garden Presbyterian Church and was a member of FFA Board of Tazewell and Buchanan Counties.
He was foreman of the experimental farm at VPI, Blacksburg, Va., from 1941-1943, a dairy farmer and was active in farming until the age of 88.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie Gregory Snapp.
Survivors include three sons, Dulaney Snapp, of the home, Richard Snapp, Burkes Garden, and Phylip Snapp, Wytheville; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home, Tazewell, is in charge.

Mazia M. Snodgrass

SALTVILLE -- Mrs. Mazia Mabel Snodgrass, 93, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at her home.
She was a member of Main Street Christian Church, Saltville, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Saltville.
She was the widow of Sidney C. Snodgrass Sr.
Survivors include one son, Sidney C. Snodgrass Jr., Chilhowie; one daughter, Loretta S. McDaniel, Kingsport; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home, Saltville, is in charge.

Samuel G. Talbert

SALTVILLE -- Samuel G. Talbert, 75, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, in Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Attie Hyman Talbert and was a veteran of World War II.
He retired from Olin Corporation and was a lifetime farmer.
Survivors include five sons, Dale Talbert, George Talbert and Darrell Talbert, all of Saltville, Charles Talbert, South Carolina, and Bill Talbert, Marion; two daughters, Molly Taylor, Abingdon, and Lena Stevenson, Saltville; six granddaughters; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home, Saltville, is in charge.

Glen O. Trivett

SHELBY, N.C. -- Glen Owen Trivett, 65, of 1911 Chatfield Road, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, in Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby, N.C.
He was a native of Washington County, Va., attended East Tennessee State University and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving four years during the Korean War.
He was district manager for Combined Insurance Company, a member of Cleveland Masonic Lodge 202, and a member of Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ora Rudsaill Trivett; two sons, Victor Glen Trivett and Bryan Lee Trivett, both of Shelby, N.C.; and four grandchildren, Shawn and Jed Davis and Joshua and Zachary Trivett, all of Shelby, N.C.
Funeral services and burial will be held Saturday in Shelby, N.C.
Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston, N.C., is in charge.

Polly S. Weaver

GRUNDY -- Polly Simmons Weaver, 77, of Little Prater section, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, in Buchanan General Hospital.
She was a native of Russell County and a 1938 graduate of Honaker High School.
She was the widow of Fred A. Weaver, was of the Baptist faith and attended the Church of Christ.
She was former owner//operator of Weaver Shoe Store.
Survivors include one son, Freddie Weaver, Grundy; one sister, Georgie M. Hubble, Vansant; two brothers, Thomas "Red" Simmons, Raven, and Joe Simmons, Grundy; and several nieces and nephews.
Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home, Grundy, is in charge.

Kyle E. Arnold Sr.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. -- Kyle Edward Arnold Sr., 78, of 720 Lake Joy Road, died Thursday, Jan.a 1, 1998, in Perry Houston County Hospital, Perry, Ga.
He was a native and resident of Sullivan County until 1959, when he moved to Houston County, and had lived in Warner Robins for 39 years.
He was a retired farmer, owner of Elmdale Farms and was a former deacon and member of Walnut Hill Presbyterian Church and a member and elder of Perry Presbyterian Church.
He was a member of Perry Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian V. Smith Arnold; two sons, Larry S. Arnold and Eddie Arnold, both of Warner Robins; one daughter, Margaret A. Fudge, Florence, Ala.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday in Perry.
Watson-Hunt Funeral Home, Perry, is in charge.

Anita L. Bowman

CHILHOWIE -- Anita Louise "Edie" Bowman, 51, of Route 2, died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, in the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Va.
She was a native of Bristol, Virginia, and had lived most of her adult life in Smyth County.
She was employed with Buster Brown, Marion, for several years, was an assistant manager with Hardees, Marion, and was a licensed cosmetologist.
Survivors include her husband, Ray Bowman Jr.; one daughter, April Eller, Marion; one son, Roger Bowman, Chilhowie; two sisters, Annette Lynch, Roanoke, and Jeanne Matarazo, Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Ronnie Sharp, Haysi, and David Sharp, Statesville, N.C.; her stepmother, Nina Sharp, Bristol, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
Barnett's Funeral Home, Marion, is in charge.

Frank Brooks

CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- Frank Brooks, 65, died Friday, Jan. 2, 1997, at his home.
Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Dixie Roberts, Saltville; one brother, Mr. Eli Brooks, Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at Fike Funeral Home in Cleveland.

BLUFF CITY -- Mildred Virginia Lane Buck, 70, of 357 Silver Grove Road, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1997, at her home.
She was a native of Sullivan County and a member of Open Door Tabernacle.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Ann Lang, Lacy's Springs, Ala., and Shirley J. Gentry, Clanton, Ala.; one stepdaughter, Frances Victoria Buck Cline, Rural Retreat; one son, Johnny Hicks, Smyrna, Tenn.; three brothers, Thurman Lane, Bluff City, John Jay Lane, Blountville, and Paul T. Lane, Birmingham, Ala.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Emma D. Carrier

BLUFF CITY -- Emma Dyche Carrier, 85, of 207 Main Street, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Bluff City and for many years co-owned and operated Carrier's Fresh Meats. She was a member of Bluff City Baptist Church and the Bluff City Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, William "Cecil" Carrier; one daughter, Mary Elaine Van Huss, Bluff City; one granddaughter, Cynthia McBroom, Bluff City; three grandsons, David A. Carrier, Michael D. Carrier and Mark A. Carrier, all of Bluff City; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Tetrick Funeral Home, Bluff City Chapel, is in charge.
