Bertha L. Larmer
CHILHOWIE -- Mrs. Bertha Lee Smith Larmer, 87, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, in Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion.
She was the widow of Chester Hollan Larmer and a member of Chilhowie Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, William Walter Larmer Sr., Chilhowie, Charles Edward Larmer, Seven Mile Ford, Va., and Graham Chester Larmer, Radford; ten grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters.
Williams Funeral Home, Chilhowie, is in charge.

James R. Mink
NEW RICHMOND, W.Va. -- James R. "Jim Bob" Mink, 66, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, in a Beckley hospital.
He was a native of Tuckerdale, N.C., a lifelong resident of Wyoming County and was owner//operator of Jim's Used Cars.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Mink.
Survivors include one daughter, Ruby Poff, New Richmond; two sons, Charles Mink and James R. "Jimmy" Mink, both of New Richmond; his mother, Allie Mink, Glade Spring; two brothers, Ernest Mink, Bristol, Tennessee, and Gene Mink, Glade Spring; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Betty Jo Mullins
CLINTWOOD -- Betty Jo Mills Mullins, 44, of Route 1, Caney Ridge section, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, in Dickenson County Medical Center, Clintwood.
She was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Kermit Mullins; three sisters, Cathy Fleming and Nina Sue Large, both of Clintwood, and Linda McCaslin, Conover, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mullins Funeral Home, Clintwood, is in charge.

Mary J. Nelson
Mary Jeanette Nelson, 65, of Bristol, Virginia, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area, a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church and was the widow of Howard Nelson.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Richard (Mary Jane) Hall, Bristol, Virginia; one son, Wayne Nelson, Abingdon; one sister, Helen Hunsucker, Blountville; one brother, William Homer Lunsford, Blountville; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Cecil M. Price
MARION -- Cecil Monroe Price, 83, died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Survivors include one brother, Oscar Price, Atkins; four nieces, Catherine Dunford, Atkins, Mrs. Neal (Minnie) Anderson and Bonnie Lou Talmadge, both of Marion, and Sylvia Wertz, Rocky Mount; one nephew, Ralph Price, Elon College, N.C.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Orville J. Thomas
Orville Jessee Thomas, of 1404 Hillside Ave., Bristol, Tenn., died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Piney Flats and had lived in the Bristol area all his life.
He was a retired construction employee with Bristol, Tennessee Public Works and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one granddaughter, Shirley A. Fleenor, Bristol, Virginia; one great-granddaughter, Madline Clark, Bristol, Virginia; one great-grandson, Terry Fleenor, Bristol, Virginia; one grandson-in-law, Warren A. Fleenor, Bristol, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Gaines B. Wilson
RAVEN -- Gaines B. Wilson, 77, of Route 1, died Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Russell County, a retired coal miner employed by Jewell Ridge Coal Company for 40 years, and was a member of UMWA local 7327.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mrs. Nancy Carroll Boyd Wilson; one daughter, Mrs. Ted (Carolyn Wilson) Kirkpatrick, Manassas, Va.; four brothers, Otto Wilson, Raven, Glenn Wilson, Clio, Mich., Hubert Wilson, Auburn, Wash., and Tom Wilson, Owings, Md.; and one grandson.
Singleton Funeral Service, Cedar Bluff, is in charge.

Faye R. Bryan
ST. PAUL -- Faye R. Bryan, 78, of 3824 Bull Hill Road, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at her home.
She was a native of Wise County, the widow of John Romeo Bryan Sr., and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Florence Bryan, Faye Deaner and Nancy Steffey, all of St. Paul; two sons, John R. "Woozy" Bryan, Castlewood, and Charlie Ray "Dickie" Bryan, Blackstone, Va.; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Castlewood Funeral home is in charge.

Corbet B. Cook
RICHLANDS -- Corbet Ballard Cook, 61, of High Meadows Trailer Park, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Russell County and had lived in the Richlands area most of his life.
He was of the Holiness faith, a U.S. Navy veteran and a former carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Jean Honaker Cook; one daughter, Debra Denise Carlock, Honaker; one son, Keith Mabe, Richlands; one stepdaughter, Melissa Childress, Richlands; one stepson, Robert Childress, Richlands; four sisters, Edith Mabe and Ruth Smith, both of Richlands, Virginia Johnson, Rowe, and Wanda Mitchell, Lebanon; five brothers, Gaines Stevens, Honaker, Elden Cook and Douglas Cook, both of Rowe, J.C. Cook, Abingdon, and Donald Lee Cook, Manassas; and two grandchildren.

Robert L. Gilmer
LEBANON -- Miss Robert Lee "Bobbie" Gilmer, of 116 North Church Street, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
After obtaining her nursing degree from Stuart Circle Hospital Training School for Nursing, Richmond, she enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1943, and after completing her training for the Army Nursing Corps, 1st Lt. Gilmer served in France and Belgium with the 82nd Airborne Division until the end of World War II.
After her discharge from the Army, she attended Vanderbilt University, where she received her bachelor's degree in nursing, and she returned to the faculty at Vanderbilt as a professor, and later, chair of the Medical and Surgical Nursing Department.
During her 21-year tenure at Vanderbilt, she received her master's degree from Columbia University in nursing education.
In 1971, Miss Gilmer was appointed Director of Nursing at East Tennessee State University, where she remained until her retirement in 1979.
She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau, American Nurses Association, National League for Nursing and the Tennessee Nurses Association.
She was a long-time member of Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church and a member and past president of United Methodist Women.
Survivors include one nephew, Robert Levy; and two nieces, Frances Mast Frye and Jane Jenks Decker.

James A. Mabe
RAVEN -- James Alfred Mabe, 69, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, in a Richlands hospital.
He was a native of Tazewell County, a retired coal miner, formerly employed with Island Creek Coal at the Beatrice Pocahontas Mine, Keen Mountain, Va., was a member of UMWA Local 1374.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of American Legion Post 164, and a member of Swords Creek Pentecostal Block Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Smith Mabe; two sons, Bobby Joe Mabe, Hillsville, and Jim Mabe, Swords Creek; one daughter, Judy Sparks, Claypool Hill; his mother, Mrs. Virgie Jackson Mabe, Raven; three brothers, Gene Mabe, Raven, Curtis Mabe, Pasadena, Md., and Harold Mabe, Bowie, Md.; two sisters, Mrs. Roy (Edith) Sauls, Alderson, W.Va., and Mrs. Whorley (Sally) Osborne, Raven; and four grandchildren.
Singleton Funeral Service, Cedar Bluff, is in charge.

Mildred F. Miller
ST. PAUL -- Mildred Francis "Baldy"" Miller, 43, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at her home.
She was a native of Russell County.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Miller; two daughters, Betty Trent, St. Paul, and Melinda Lowe, Honaker; her mother, Fronia Ramsey, Castlewood; six sisters, Mary Hughes and Betty Duncan, both of St. Paul, Marie Berger, Lynchburg, Margaret Bradley, Stella Long and Linda Trent, all of Castlewood; two brothers, Gene Ramsey and J.D. Ramsey, both of Lebanon; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
